Constable Shi Tou of An Ling District is a tall, strong, and handsome young lad with good martial skills. But ever since he’d been ordered to exorcise a ghost at Pu River, he became the well-known “nemesis”, of wives within the entire district! This novel’s plot is really good! It’s really something!

It’s worth the read but although the plot/premise of the story is really good, it felt like the story was so rushed that I couldn’t understand why the characters thought that way anymore especially Arc 2!

How when Shi got his soul back and he somehow changed, it was not explained well why the ML suddenly stopped loving him. Yeah, I get that the ML felt that he lost his Little Rock but like wtf? He neglected the MC just like that?! And there was a paragraph saying that the ML found someone else (w/c MC saw and MC was like thats how MC used to look at me but not anymore). The ML says he loves the MC a lot but I don’t really think it’s love more like possessiveness if you ask me, but not love as much as he says so cause look, he just let their relationship end just like that and maybe the ML has his reasons but it wasn’t explained and it’s kinda frustrating!

this novel has so much potential! Really! I love this but at the same time I can’t help but feel sad cause the later chapters were executed poorly. I just can’t help but be kinda frustrated at how everything turned out in the end because there were really lots of holes, emotional explanation holes, that weren’t filled. The later chapters felt like a summary instead somehow.

If this was rewritten, in a more elaborate way maybe, I would definitely reread this even if it takes like 100+ chaps cause the plot deserves more! Really! I can’t help but feel that it’s such a waste cause the beginning and the plot is just so good but wasn’t really explained much.

There’s also that scene In Arc 1, how the MC could just leave the ML knowing he was trapped by his brother and all, I know the MC might not really love the ML deeply and he trusted his brother and such so I guess that was kinda okay

Rating: 4/5- Angsty and sorrowful. With a very interesting plot. An underwhelming ending lets it down though and you can’t help but feel disappointed because it deserved better.

I love Xuanhuan novels and I think that the underlying story was very well written. I liked the characters and how flawed and unique they were. The first arc was incredibly well written for a short story although the second arc falls short. There were very realistic depictions of the ML dealing with some of his emotions and I think the general theme... more>> of poor communication and selfishness was very well portrayed. I just think that the couple starts off strong but their ending is quite weak.

The second arc starts off strong but it’s almost as if it loses that unique, well rounded writing style halfway through and sort of crashes at the end.

I think the second arc was more over dramatic and the angst was laid on thick, but the practicality of it was just not fitting. In a way I felt sad that the two characters got such a bland, unsatisfying ending and the extras don’t do it justice.

I still like this story quite a lot and I encourage reading it. Just be prepared for a bit of disappointment when it comes to an end. <<less

I like it up to a certain point, until I couldn't help but go 'tch.... the MC is really too much of a white lotus' -- I understand that he's kind and pure, believes in the goodness of people and doing the right thing (showing filial piety) -- but the type of MC who cares too much about others and not his own wife/person is a bit too much for me. I know it's to churn the plot and make it so its what it is,

In the first arc - I really don't understand how someone who has so much love for others would neglect to care for his wife (gong) nor discuss important things with him. The MC shows filial piety to his seniors and benefactors - even to his mum, but the way he didn't even talk to his wife about finding out he has family (his wife is PART of the family now?) nor talk about going together or how his mother's tomb is in the capital is so? mind boggling to me? For someone who has a personality trait that's supposed to be very conscious of others - the lack of propriety he shows in this regards is just a little bit off-putting. Also, he completely forgets to care about his wife after he wakes up with his brother, despite being with his wife for days? I would've thought, there would be some parts that discusses showing respect to his mother by introducing his wife to her. But I guess it doesn't want to touch that? I know the ML couldn't go, but the lack of communication about just covering the bases is a little??

After all this - I get that it's all part of the story. I just have to warn you that if you come here expecting it to be happy/fluffy all the time - you're dead wrong. I'm definitely uncomfortable with some parts of the plot, some have put it as a roller coaster. And I think it is, but I think part of it is because the plot depends entirely on stacking misery after misery/challenges after challenges for the story to progress. Which sometimes feels a little cheap? Because whilst the entire story may have a beautiful meaning to why this happens - but it's also based flawed characters but with no kind of development. Making them go through all these heartaches for each other - without offering any kind of resolution for them besides having to endure (neither of them changes, grow, nor understand the other better. They just rely entirely on having a formidable love for each other to sacrifice over and over again to be together.) There's parts where it's definitely too reliant on the ML to progress and alleviate things for the MC when he does/gets taken advantage of by others.

In the second arc where the MC already married someone else who's pregnant with a child when the ML returns. Or the part where he gets whisked away by his brother, mild in*est spoilers for the first arc (even though it's not a big part) -- these are so?? It contributes nothing but shock factor but if you take it out the story progresses the same. What does it matter? What does it prove?

But the myriad of just -- raining all types of troubles onto the couple is a little... idk...?? It doesn't seem to work as well as an explanation of why or how their love is enriching and good. Just seems a little arbitrary to me. But they do love each other very much, the sweet is sweet, but without it it still feels a little lacking. <<less

I Love It!!!

It's just basically a forbidden romance with a sugar toppings of supernatural added!

It's really my cup of tea!???

Great translator-sama please continue and finish translating this novel...

Recommended for people who wanted that fantasy BL romance set in ancient times... And the supernatural plot is the honey sugar to make this story tasty??

When I pick up this novel to read, I'm prepared for the short lovey dovey story... and I don't read the review either coz I think people have different opinion and what I like is maybe not someone's cup of tea... but this time I regret for not read the review.... this novel make me emotionally invested....I feels like I'm just ride a roller coaster.... although at the end it's HE, I still thinking about all the angst... just hope that the ending have a few more sweetness

It was fine. I liked the characters enough and wanted to see how it resolved to read through the end and the extras. Parts made me tear up, parts were sexy, parts were sweet but I can't say this is a novel I'll return to.

Overall, it felt a bit like two or three stories mashed into one rather than a coherent throughline. Yes it's about the MC and ML finding their way to each other over lifetimes, but the surrounding plot of the first and second halves really have... more>> nothing to do with each other.

I also wasn't thrilled with the way mental disability was presented, but I don't know if that's a cultural thing or just a plot element of the author's. <<less

Albeit that this story seem very short, it is not, the plot alone will make you feeling like you're reading thousands of chapters and impatient to get to the truth.

A good roaler coaster as well, and I'm gonna say a delicious chocolate also has the bitterness, but it's cannot overtoping the sweetness of our heart. Good reading so far.

Ha what a novel it is, short but meaningful, didn't expect it to be so good. The plot and characters setting is interesting. I loved both the arcs but the second one was so emotionally investing argh angst. Overall it was great but I wish it had more chapter to fill in for the fluff that the story needed at the end. The ending seemed unfulfilled that's the only regret I have for such a good story.

It was such a good story, I was crying at some point, so much angst but not irritating. After so much pain and sufferings ML and MC are together. The world setting is unique, the identities of ML and MC both intrigued me. One is a calamity another one is the star. The writing is also good. The story at first was quite happy but at the last point everything turned upside down then slowly mending to happy ending. This is absolutely one of my favourite novels so far. aiii.... what so bad about this novel is that its so short. I want MOAR lovey dovey stuff hey hey but it is wrapped nicely all the important plot filled the hole. it doesn't feel inadequate at all. I just want some more extra sugar that's all. hahahahaha. its a really good novel considering how short it was... damn I want more. I hope the author keep on piling those extra chapters up. the couple interactions are super cute!

Cos I cant understand a very important point in the story. So did Ajiang had an affair or not?Arghhh now this qs is killing me... Now I really understand what it means of curiosity kills the cat. CAN'T cry enough river and wish to turn back time.

Ok aside from my rambling, this novel is GOOD. Warning is they should tag tragedy and angst huhuhu... but I guess its HE. Im pretty sure. Its highly recommended but don't be like me and just wait patiently for the TL. Since I've learn my lesson, I'm gonna wait for the TL to read 3rd arcs... <<less

This story is very interesting and I love the contrast between the MC and the ML. Their love is very authentic, although the cold ML mostly expresses it physically instead of words.

What makes the story more intriguing than others is that it has both a historical and a modern timeline. Having just completed the historical part, I definitely look forward to the modern part! Hopefully there’s more fluff than in the historical story arc, huhu...~
