Read it, a truly well written story that contains a smart MC, a gradual love story, the support cast actually matters, and even the villains aren't the usual hur dur we are bad guys variety.

the story is ok. The writing style is bloated and there are annoying info dumb that goes on and on describing the same thing with different words. The weakest part of this ln is the fight scene its kind of understandable because of chinese culture but the fights strategically doesnt make sense. I just bypass the fight scene because of its. Strategic idiocy. A good fight scene has certain predictability- the reader knows what skill the actors would use because the skills are presented beforehand. But the writer keep drawing... more>> new skills and elements from his ass. I think the writer never had played rpg games in his life because he couldnt write a sensible strategic fight scenes.

and there are a lot of cringey decision by the writer. He made the story complicated for the sake of adding additional chapters. There is an unnatural flow to the story. By chapter 131 its really hard to continue reading this. The writer just disrespecting readers intellect at this point. <<less

I'll keep this short...

I really like a lot about Soul Land... having just finished Swallowed Star, it's refreshing to see so many characters actually developed and actually being relevant for long stretches of the story. I like the power system, I like the different abilities and such, the fights are pretty much all fun. Hell, there are even multiple team battles that are 7 vs 7, idk if I've read that in any other series, tbh. Very enjoyable.

What I don't like is... like most of the reviewers whose reviews I've... more>> read... Tang San is too perfect. Luo Feng from Swallowed Star becomes extremely powerful and he's special and blah blah blah, but he's definitely not perfect. Tang San has basically no flaws... the closest things are he loses control if someone touches his beloved, and he can't swim (THE IRONY). Like he's just aggressively perfect. I started reading Soul Land around the same time I started reading Feng Shen Ji, and Wu Geng is so much more enjoyable as a character, even though some of his fights are also him outwitting his opponents and using things they didn't know existed lol

Overall I really like it...I could've used more Bibi Dong in my life and a little less Qian Ren Xue... it would've been nice if Hu Lie Na was relevant the entire remainder of the story, but I get why it would've gotten overcrowded. There are plenty of things I don't like about the animated adaptation, but something I really appreciate is how they've kept her relevant.

If you can get over the MC being literally perfect (and also older than all of his friends), I think this is really enjoyable with some iconic characters tbh. It's also not that long of a read (unlike Swallowed Star LOL) <<less

Definitely some overly crude secondary main characters, which stays consistent through the series, but this one definitely has the best main protagonists in the series.

Excellent worldbuilding, descriptive writing, and (for the most part) translation.

Pretty good. Enjoying the relationships. Also, I always appreciate a novel where the MC isn't OP all by himself. The spirit master mechanic is fairly boring. Lots of focus on male bonding between student and father figure (lots is an understatement). Gets bogged down in boring tournament arcs that don't feel directly meaningful. Sense of scale of population is weird and even contradictory at times. But scale is hard to nail even in well edited published works. Chapters are long, sometimes its great, but often the pattern is something like,... more>> one thing happens -> 5 paragraphs loosely explaining why it can happen. <<less

I liked pretty much everything. I give it 4 stars because towards the end the power ups got way out of track, they were way too much of them and too little time to show the powers properly. Because of that the fights got less excting to read.

Other than that, I loved it.

Overall this was genuinely a fun novel to read, but I personally dropped it around 306, because I honestly feel its kind of annoying.
Spoiler

As in he can kill 1, 000, 000 year old spirit beast like cheese, he seems to barely have suffered any injury.

That was where I kinda dropped it. You are very welcome to disagree. Please remember this is my opinion

I love the world setting and the level up system, which make the first part of the novel an easy 5 stars. However, the story has mayor flaws.

Firstly, I think the fact that the protagonist was reborn and has OP knowledge from his past life was completly unnecessary and ruins the natural power up progression. He already has circumstances that give him big advantages later on, so I think the knowledge from the past life was overdoing it.

Secondly, the story at some point starts to get rushed and the protagonist... more>> gets massive power ups one after another. After that I really dislike how the story continues.

I still recommend to read it, it has a lot of training to get stronger and interesting fights. <<less

Fairly okay story.

MC is a good guy. Quite naive in love but fairly okay.

However, he didn't stick to his principles at almost the last part of the fight.

... more>> He let the villain go! Then disaster came. You'll know its bull**** when author says ".. Because of his kindness he let her go, but he didn't know this lead to trouble later" the hexk was that?! For all his youth he never break that principle of his then he gets softhearted just then.

He's loyal, alright. But he should better draw the line as fast as he can!not being taken advantage of. In certain novel, this could be use as a window for cheap misunderstanding filler.

The minor skills he got were sometimes forgotten when it should be used. This also applies to the romance. It feels like watching a cuttted movie from a scene.

Oh, the reason for many girls fall for him is also quite.. Weak. Among 4, I think only 2 builds a strong reason to fall in love with the MC.

Nevertheless, the standart world building is good, seamless. Guaranteed to make you cry in certain relationship between human. Quite a catch. Waiting to finish the others. <<less

One of the better CN I have read. Most novels the MCs are said to be geniuses but in reality it's only when it comes to cultivation speed and they're dumb f*cks. In Douluo Dalu the MC is an actual genius, he's talented in everything (cultivation, battle tactics, poisons, weapons, and knowledge), it's almost cheat. A good chuck of the series is basically the MC growing up. The MC and his friends battling together (especially during the tournament arc) was very good. I felt that he became too OP a... more>> little too fast afterwards, but it was due to a series of events (tragedies, battles, etc). The only thing I don't like about the series is the romance. Sometimes I wish series like these had no romance. It basically had the same problem as IET novels did. I couldn't care less for the love interest and I wish the MC could just move on. <<less

Tang San is probably the best MC I have read so far. The book is very well thought out and throughout my reading I noticed that our MC was never ridiculously over powered (but he is a MC so it isn't like he's weak). It is my favorite novel solely because of the additional driving factor of a very strong romance, and the fact that relevant characters never really fade into the background.
Spoiler

The Shrek Seven Devils never are not growing stronger together and at this point they are all relevant in the story.

All in all very balanced story I highly recommend this to anyone who likes cultivation type novels! <<less

Having a shorter story shines through and the writer doesn't have to spend time adding one ridiculous villain after another. The world is setup properly, character introduced with their cliches and novel length low enough for the story to make sense and not spiral into a repetitive mess.

Still it is not a 5 star because the way main antagonists are setup. It comes from the left field and is not well though through.

Douluo Dalu is a great novel by TJSS. The method of cultivation is vastly different from all other novels. The concept is good and interesting giving a variety of contrasting abilities.

The MC has a good personality. He is extremely caring and devoted to his friends and family. But also ruthless towards his enemies. There is a bit of tragedy which however gets resolved.

The MC is smart, and uses his previous world's knowledge to his advantage. However there are many training arcs where some are very interesting but some being rather... more>> boring. Overall it is a great read.

A classic and still one of my favorite novels to date. Unlike a lot of power-up martial arts/cultivating stories floating around here, you see character development for side characters as well. The romance is also very well done, you don't get a random hot lady clocking the MC over the head in Chapter 100 or something when before all the MC was focusing on was training, training, training. It's a nice, gradual progression that makes sense.

Very good novel. If you like romance with martial-arts / cultivation, characters development and a smart, righteous MC, look no further

Be warned of a few things:
1) There are a lot of names to keep track of - characters' names, skills, forms, monsters, etc...
2) Easily addicted. I read 100 chapters in a few days when I first started. I dropped because of "slow" translation rate - ie: 1 chapter a week is a good, but I want 5 chapters a day!! ;) . I recently picked it up again,... more>> and continue to read the next 100 chapters within a week. <<less

A really amazing story with many original ideas and twists. The only downside is that the releases are so slow, that by the time the translators finish the next chapter, I completely forget that I have been reading it. Not blaming them though, they have their own lives and stuff.

My advice, try it, love it, oh and, bring lots of patience.

Beyond current times, before weekly or even thought of weekly fan translations was things we had this series at the vanguard. While I can go as far to say it's literary masterpiece, I can say it's certainly worthy as being example of what means to write a very well written web novel. Never do I feel disconnected or overwhelmed by story. As the plot, along with back drop is positioned fluidly with characters it's characters. Theses characters have distinct, and complementing personality that bring vigor to story as they move... more>> individually throughout the story. To sum up this story, I would say it written following the textbook. There's everything here that should be here. While being very interesting, I don't find anything makes sparkle, so I am saying it shall be fair review of 4, though it's certainly on top of must reads for genre. <<less

One of the only decent novels that doesn't have harem. Alebit slow with releases, but the story is great, it gives you a world of cultivation WITHOUT harem and all that other stuff *cough cough, ATG, MGA, even WDQK, and etc. The love is pure and both sides consent to it, which very few popular light novels have for some reason. (The only other one I have read that has a relationship like this is SYWZ, which is also written by the same author. Is he the only one that... more>> writes good novels without having girls seem like trophies?) This novel is great for those who would like to read a decent light novel without the polygamy and harems. The MC also doesn't have the crazy plot armor of xianxia, which I personally, find refreshing. Definitely one of, if not the best, light novel out there. A must-read. <<less
