A World Worth Protecting

By the year 3029 CE, Earth’s technology has developed rapidly, borders no longer exist, and Earth has been unified, marking the beginning of the era of the Federation.

At that time, a huge sword flew from the heavens, piercing the sun and causing a huge sensation on Earth.

Perhaps because the scabbard of the sword was already in tatters, countless shards have broken off from it following the collision with the sun and spread across the universe. Many of these shards have landed on various places across Earth.

With the arrival of the bronze sword and its shards, a new unlimited energy source has suddenly appeared on Earth. This energy source has since been named Spirit Qi.

Spirit Qi is like air, thick in some places and thin in others. As the Federation and other factions gather more shards, they discover more information on cultivation, pill refinement, Spirit Stone refinement, and other techniques. The words on the shards have an ancient feel to them, making it a trend for people to use ancient language.

The appearance of Spirit Qi rapidly makes the original energy sources obsolete and has completely changed people’s lives. Not only has the Spirit Internet been formed, Spirit Qi has also changed the course of Human Civilization, causing the world to enter a civilization of cultivation. This would later come to be known as the Spirit Inception Era.

Absolutely love it! If u love AWE u'll love this one. Some say it's not as deep as Xian ni; I say, this is a web novel, it's not trying to win a Nobel prize in literature, how "deep" does it need to get. As long as it's an enjoyable read, isn't it enough?

The comedic situations Er Gen creates in this one and AWE is FAR more preferable to me than disgusting novels others r writing in the name of love/harem. Where it's perfectly fine for guys to profess love... more>> to someone then go around groping and sleeping with other girls, but the moment the girl even talks to some other guy she is a sl*t, a whore! I have no qualms against harems; if someone falls in love with multiple people that's perfectly fine. But the sheer hypocrisy of males going around f*cking people like dogs in heat but the females can't even talk to other guys just makes me abhor novels which would otherwise be lovely stories to read.

To those authors,

I say: is asking to give the females in their stories the agency to make close male friends or heavens forbid, fall in love with more than one guy too much to ask. U r writing fantasy for crying out loud!

The authors say: But the fantasy worlds r loosely based on ancient cultures, they need to have a semblance of reality to then.

I say:... really!... destroying worlds, Fighting 1000km long "Kung Peng", becoming millions of Km in size, living billions of years is fine but letting women make meaningful relations is stretching it too far! How conceited can u be?

People reading this, forgive me for I digress. Reading novels like Ancient godly Monarch recently has left a bad test in my mouth. That is why I simply love Er Gens novels, specially AWE and this one, with their light-hearted humor and ABSOLUTELY brilliant situational comedy. <<less

I feel that Er Gen has stuck with the creator problem.

It is one of those where you always has to 1 up your last work otherwise it will be seen as a failure. (Many Youtuber had thing similar to this)

So, about the story. I can't help but compare it with Xian Ni (RI). Even with what I said earlier, AWWP is very similar to it (Sorry for comparing it). The MC has the same sir name, this could be just a coincidence, but one of the female lead also... more>> has an also the same name as the RI female lead. The thing that convince me is the fact that (spoiler to RI)

Spoiler

In the near ending of RI we see the MC avatar who when into the circle of time to create many other MC and let him experience similar thing, and in the end, he will have a last fight with All-Seer. I think that AWWP's MC could be one of those incarnation

[collapse]

Comparing world build

Spoiler

Planet susaku have more characteristic than the entire world of AWWP. There were the "sea of devil" where wanted cultivator went in to hide, and when the mist covering it is gone those cultivator met their doom. Various country with different rank, natural disaster cause by certain being that live in a volcano, and it chase an entire country away. A hidden race that was seal in the planet. What surprise me was that susaku mean vermillion bird and there was nothing related to it for the first 1000 chapter (not sure where exactly).

[collapse]

Er Gen was able to make that type of world, so he don't have to rely on the real world to make something Epic.

  • The pro
    • It has a lot of politic (in story) and mind game stuff.
    • Side character has more personally, not all of them are dumb (not all)
    • MC is smart enough to not always use force, but still know when to do so.
    • Has senior who help him, but also those that make thing worse for him so it balance out.
    • Not all of his friend/senior is useless.
  • The con
    • Bad world build.
      Spoiler
      [collapse]
    • MC almost always have bad luck as part of the plot.
    • Has no trump card other than his bomb equipment
    • Always get targeted by powerful enemy, but somehow still alive by plot, this is not the style of the Er Gen we know
      Spoiler

Wang Lin die when he offend someone more powerful then him + his family (he can only reborn because of Situ help). Meng Hao got chased and has to use every trump card he had just to almost completely die if not for the help of a senior. Even Bai Xiaochun get a death trail with his super luck

      [collapse]
    • No deep plot into the world, only the dark sect thing which feel like a free give to the MC. His other novel has a lot of mystery that get the fan to try to predict how it will play out and with his unique style it work really well before.
    • It feel like the usual xianxia but worse since it use the si-fi setting and do so wrongly here why:
      Spoiler

The timing, Xianxia world don't really get affected by this but, for si-fi it really important. Ex: it took half a month to travel from earth to mar, but the time should be vary since the obit of the two planet make it so you can't use the same time frame for each travel (It is not teleportation since it said in later arc about teleport between planet and it is instant but can only be use for those with high cultivation). Then there is invasion from the sun. The story make it sound like all the planet line up together to form a shield in front of earth (it is not stated exactly that way but if you know anything about how planet obit then the story sound really shity for a si-fi)

      [collapse]
I just feel that Xianxia can not be mix with Si-fi due to

  • Xianxia focus on fantasy and made-up story with no further detail
  • Si-fi is more focus on future technology so it has to give explanation for every thing with a lot of detail
If you want to mix it, Is like trying to explain how magic work which ruined the fun of it all. <<less

Ok. First thing first, th Novel isn't that bad. The reason it got so many 1 and 2 stars like me. Its cause it was written by Ergen. He is like one of the top class wuxia authors but he made such a blunder in this one.

The world of will eternal was actually good and interesting compared to this one. The world feels bland, the viciousness you see in his novel about cultivation world is missing. More importantly, the main character is just there acting like a manchild.

Not that I... more>> hate peace loving and funny MC. But Ergen isnt the best at that. Its completely lacking in the essence of ergen. There are all sorts of cliches and it keeps happening.

I am done. <<less

I think this is an underrated story. It's worth a read if you enjoyed A Will Eternal. I wouldn't read it directly after that story though, as the MC is very similar.

Unfortunately, about 2/3 of the way through, Webnovel stops translating and turns to MTL for translation. It just gets worse the more you read until story elements become incomprehensible. I'm giving this a 1 due to dissatisfaction with how Webnovel handled the translation.

Ignore all the bad reviews. All bad reviews are a result of being unable to look past the early character-development stage, which really gets better throughout the whole novel. This is an absolute masterpiece by Er Gen. Definitely better than ISSTH and AWE for me. The world building is unique and solid, as expected of Er Gen. This novel gets progressively better the more you read, with an amazing finale. It explains a lot of unanswered questions built up throughout his previous novels, and ties in his whole universe pretty... more>> well. Plenty of fun nods to previous novels as well. If you're an Er Gen fan then this is an absolutely necessary book to read. <<less

supposed to be 5/5 but mobile is awful so..

Who made the Completely Translated section into Yes? Fk that wasn’t true at all, and I had to endure machine translation content.

A World Worth Protecting end...

Wow, Er Gen really makes the best stories... The awful translation made it worse, the battle wasn’t as good at ISSTH, the daos are kinda lame... but still, it wad a good novel. Tbh, A Will Eternal feels much worse than this, we still have no idea what Bai Xiaochan is doing. And, there was no... more>> Old Man Extermination this time. Either way, Er Gen’s stories are always satisfying as they are wrapped up quite nicely. That story was meaningful in a way... <<less

I see a lot of dissapointment and negativity in the other reviews here, not that this is wrong, but I feel that it's pretty unfair.

I have read every book in this series, and I have to say, I love them all. But they are not perfect! For most of these books, it takes quite a while for me to really feel "oh shit" and really get the impression that the book is popping off. Usually for this series it was in between 300-500 chapters in, but for a world worth... more>> protecting, I did not feel like that untill about chapter 1050 --> very minor spoiler I guess --> he goes to the fated star.

Of course, a writer can't expect readers to stay around for that long untill it "gets good", but if people stop reading 50 chapters in because of fat jokes, then they are not really giving it a shot, are they? It took me three tries to read pursuit of the truth. Two times I got about 450 chapters in before I stopped and gave up due to boredom. It was only after ~2 years that I came back for the third try and it turns out it's the best book that I have ever read.

I can only speak with experiences about Er Gen from this series, but for his novels you gotta let them pop off first before you judge, I mean it's an Er Gen novel, we all know that it will get good at some point! :D <<less

This is a good novel. Specially if you enjoyed A Will Eternal. Once again comedy takes the reins here to spice up the monotone and all too familiar cultivation. If you want a cultivation story with a lot of consistency and little to no plotholes this is it. The beginning is pretty slow but things pick up later.

This novel is a mix of Er Gen's previous novels. In the beginning it's like AWE but the jokes are awful, and Er Gen tries hard to point out that he is serous character - not Bai Xiaochun. The cultivation is a mix of ISSTH and any other generic novel you can think of. I say this because his legacy powers are used only 2 or 3 times and after a point (i forgot witch chapter) he mostly uses his super special an OP cultivation stage powers. Like his previous... more>> works here he's talanted artifact forger but it's mentioned a little in the early chapters and briefly around 700 maybe. Romance is at the level of generic novels and the bad ones at that.

I said that this is a mix of his other novels because it's almost identical to AWE, and usually in Er Gen novels the family is a BIG part of the story and one of his strengths, but here his parents are called "father and mother Wang". Later he is forced into hiding and the tone of the novel starts feeling a lot like ISSTH and RI. After that the tone changes again to PoT and now you've got reincarnations and repeated cycles and past memories and a whole other s*upid thing out of nothing.

Overall the story is at the level of generic novel and not a particularly good one. Most of the fights are boring and not like the old ones and in later chapters even worse. Around 900 I started to skip most of the text because it felt that bad to me.

This novel is 2/5 only because it's slightly better than filler novels. Er Gen has really fallen a lot and to me that is because he is trying to please his audience but it ends in this mess. <<less

The worst Er Gen novel you can read, and it’s not because of the s*upid reviews below that only read 50 chapters.

Let me preface this by saying that even the worst of the worst of Er Gen is 20 times better than any other Xianxia Story except for these (Reverend Insanity, Martial World, Tales of Herding Gods.)

So when I say worse, it is still infinitely better than anything IEatTomatoes can come up with or anything from the BTTH franchise.

What makes this novel bad is first and foremost, the translation.... more>> Webnovel doesn’t have the rights and license to translate this yet they did. (I messaged deathblade and he confirmed it himself). So basically this whole novel is an illegal amateur MTL abuser pissing on Er Gen’s name by translating this horrendously. Everytime I read a deatblade translations of Er Gen, I could never stop picking it up, yet this took me years of breaks and in betweens to finally reach chp 800. And it’s because it’s er gen thats writing the story,

Ofcourse Er Gen has his faults too. I feel like the cultivation system is emptier and Wang Baoles progress is even more bleak. Other mc’s feel simply better because they are trying to do something new with cultivation especially meng hao but this just feels kinda boring even though he is doing the same. Nascent Soul - Planet realm is so rushed it’s 3-4 stages yet it took him the same time it took Meng Hao to get a golden core from foundation establishment. I have never seen er gen take these early realms lightly except for these ones. Too rushed. I felt that er gen wanted to quit and make his new best Xianxia novel existing right now Beyond the timescape and let go of this so maybe he just rushed it. <<less

Not Er Gen's best. MC is a unique character as he breaks away from the usual slim, handsome af MC archetype. The comedy is also not bad but I feel that the plot is quite superficial. The are many elements in place that are ready for the author to use but Er Gen ultimately decides to get the plot going through repetition like the chosen tournament/ competition (a lot of them). Having said that, it is not bad but kinda boring for me after a while.

One of the better xianxia I've read in years. I like how the author had mature and that the MC and other characters aren't the caricature evil villains. I've got the feeling that it will be one of the rare xianxia I will finish. The last one I read to the last was a knovel with Hluttony in its title.

I started reading this novel immediatley after finishing Renegade Immortal and honestly it was better than I thought it would be. It really picks up its pace after the Pond cloud rainforest stuff and I started enjoying it quite a bit. I feel that past a certain point the comedy elements dropped but the story stayed engaged until the last 70 chapters where it was such a slog to read through. The last 20 chapters were better though.

Spoilers about ending.

Spoiler

Holy shit

One of the worst ending I've ever seen in a xianxia. MC says he will continue walking the path of lonliness despite holding the souls of his friends in is palm and having more friends, and romance interest waiting for him outside his current universe. He is capable of going there at any time and reuniting with them aswell. Doesn't really fit with the story so far aswell because for like 90% for the story he has had friends and allies with him. Maybe im misinterpreting the ending because of mtl though.

[collapse]

Btw at chapter 918 the translation drops from good and readable to worse than mtl. Seriously the names are less consistent and the capitalization is off like "wang Baole". Convinced they just used an AI or something. I ended up mtling the rest of it. I think the translation might have gotten better at some point but I was used to mtl so I stuck with that to the end.

The authors note at the end is definelty worth reading, honestlty explains a lot about this story.

Overall this story had issues but I enjoyed reading it for the most part and do not regret finishing it. <<less

It's very enjoyable.

For those who offer a rating of three or less, it's likely because they had high hopes for Er Gen's book. After reading "A Will Eternal, " they might be hoping for something new. This novel has nothing new, but still fun and worth reading.

I feel that this book should receive a rating of 4 or higher if its author is not well-known.

The novel is based on the (current) earth, at some point an "artifact" arrived that collided with the sun, which caused the Qi energy to expand, what happens next is the transition from a modern earth (yes, even ships spatial techniques had) the techniques of the cultivators, it must be borne in mind that many mechanics of the modern earth were obsolete but many others managed to merge with the Qi era, it can be said that it is a mixture of several styles such as Forty Millenniums of Cultivation... more>> / Pocket Hunting Dimension / The First Order, the novel is similar to AWE where our protagonist advances based on the creation of armaments although later improves in other aspects, it has similarities with the personality of Bai Xiaochun, but like the federation (it is the union of the factions of the earth) has many politics in between, to advance you need a certain political rank as a power (although starting with Formation of nucleus / nascent soul, it does not matter so much anymore), the novel is easy to read, fast and funny, ALTHOUGH the comments about the protagonist are very repetitive in some chapters (which is perfect, beautiful, the best, blah blah blah) beyond that, if you liked AWE, this is surely your novel. <<less

The setting looks a bit weak, also I didnt like repeated homosexuality jokes, some moments about MC's cultivation feel too unbalanced. Arrogant guys pop up here and there, however the way they pop up and how MC handle the situation is in some sense unique.

However this is Er Gen's novel, and it is much much different from all his novels as well as from other novels out there. MC is drastically different (I havent read novels with even remotely similar MC, the fat career-oriented law-abiding schemers are usually the villains),... more>> his values and goals separate him from the rest of xianxias. While Renegade Immortal is my fav novel, I'd say that it is much much closer to generic xianxia, in comparison with AWWP (it was influenced by RMJI heavily, for example). The world and the way MC percieve the world and state his goals is unique for xianxia (it's closer to modernity, conflicts can't be resolved by direct clan extermination anymore), so I hope to see some deep schemes from him. His cultivation foundation is also different from usual, so I guess this deserves praise. I liked the MC personality, the jokes (which are new to the genre). The challenges before the MC and questions posed to reader are unique.

Seems like the most readers are disappointed that they don't get their generic xianxia, but get something conceptually new, yet still in the xianxia genre. I also feel that way, but am curious on the other hand. <<less

I read it a while back so there might be some discrepancies so bear with me. It's funny and read worthy if you looking for a cultivation novel set in modern times with MC being one fat guy who dreams of becoming precident and trying to loose weight. There are some interesting plot points but it gets draggy around 450.
