The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love

Description

An internet troll who wanted attention, the reader criticized his favorite web novel, saying: “The protagonist is dumb and the author is s*upid.”

Author: “…Got it.”

Unfortunately for him, the author actually listened to his (troll) feedback. The formerly lighthearted tale of a cute harem master suddenly became super dark and edgy. The reader could only helplessly look on as the protagonist was abused and betrayed, finally embarking on the road to becoming completely evil. Everything was a mess!

After that the reader transmigrated into a strange world. How come the person in front of him looks like the protagonist (evil undead version)? Just what is going on?!

Note: Du Zhe (读者 meaning Reader) and Du Ze (杜泽 the character’s name) sound almost the same

AHHHH I REALLY, REALLY LOVE THIS STORY SO, SO MUCH ? (The grammarian in me says I am being excessive, but let my fangirl side pour out her love for this amazing novel!)

The author really knows how to hook his/her readers immediately, so skillfully and tightly as mush as how the Protagonist holds tightly to his beloved Reader. I like how the plots keeps progressing in a pace that will leave you breathless in some and/or constantly keeps you at the edge of your seat. Yes, even the... more>> cliffhangers brought by the division of chapters is so ughhh, just perfect to keep you reading on.

I also love Xiu. This wounded man had devoted his entire being to his love and he will stop at nothing just to prove it again and again, and their love scenes are just so sappy and sweet and ughh, too much for my heart to handle safely, and his lines where he directly professes his deep desire, yearning and possessiveness for Du Ze are just ughhh, PERFECT. <<less

This Danmei Novel is quite unlike other novels in which the protagonist is transmigrated to another world.

In this our MC is mostly seen as a bystander and is not overly OP like other MC's in transmigration novels, our MC is cute with facial paralysis and is extremely adorable and attractive when drunk, while our ML is extremely doting and possesive which should be accepted since he's gone through a lot.

It also feel so sad when ML said that he'll destroy anybody that'll hurt MC which includes himself, And its funny... more>> because of our cute MC has no idea of the trouble he gets into.

i also like the *naughty scenes because they are so descriptive that my imagination runs wild, the story is kind of cute with fluff mostly to say my favorite form of ML is his dragon form.

The ending is is well desevered because I think the couple has gone through alot and I think the ML would have gone into a frenzy if he couldnt find MC int he actual world.

but overall its a cute, romantic story with some twists and turns.

It was a bit unexpected, for me, to know that some characters have questioned their reality and self-awareness at the end (they have a hunch that they're in a novel O.O). Overall rating: 4.5.

So the plot goes like this:

Spoiler

The MC from the modern world, a loyal fan of the author, trolled him in one of his fantasy-themed story so the author decided to change the genre of that story from an everything-goes-well-for-the-protagonist-and-his-harem to world-hates-protagonist-and-wants-to-kill-him-so-he-wants-revenge theme. MC thinks it's his fault that the protagonist is suffering, so when he accidentally got into the story, he resolved himself to bring the protagonist back to the 'good' path while making him the story's God. Since MC's an avid reader, he uses what he know of the story's plot to make protagonist's journey as convenient as possible, all while their understanding and feelings towards one another deepen. When he has no 'future knowledge' left, he decided to aid protagonist not as a bystander, sinner, or fan but as a person who loves him. Lots of challenges along the way, but ultimately, they reached their goal and become happy together.

[collapse]

There are a lot of things that I like in this novel:

  • The gradual character development of the protagonist and the MC were logical and in tune with the scenarios that there weren't much inconsistencies between the cause and effect of what they experienced and their resulting personalities and views at the end of the story.
  • The plot challenges were derived from a number of different concepts and stories that I find it amusing to see a novel incorporating all of them without making the plot awkward, disastrous, and/or bland.
  • The concept of a character having the blood of all races and being able to transform into these races without sacrificing each race's inherent personalities every transformation is so OP to the point that it might be borderline unappealing to the readers (i.e. He has everything so what's the challenge for him?) yet in this story, it is novel, well-thought, and well-written.
  • Those extras at the end, you may think those are supplements for the epilogue but they might be considered as new beginnings. Those notes on the author has something to say corner at the end of the chapters, you might skip it since they're the author's thoughts but do note that in this novel, even the author is a character.
Great read. I won't read it again since it's too long for me, but it's worth to ponder about. <<less

This story surprised me as it started slow but got so much better like a slow maturity wine.

I found it initially confusing as it had a section of an excerpt of what the novel should have been in the reader didn't transmigrate into the novel.

Let me summarize why I think this is a great book and deserves my 5 star rating:

... more>> - the story must have substance with a good story plot, well conceived that will keep me entertained and makes me not want to put the book down

- the characters must make feel, like I understand them and want them to succeed and be together forever

- final twist and surprise, I don't like books with cliches that I know will happen. This book surprised me and hence alleviated to my second favorite book so far (note: I only started reading Chinese novels since Covid restrictions)

- it has entertaining bits that makes my face blush quite a number of times. I like that! We all need a bit of adrenaline going sometimes.

- for all the mentioned above, I have reread some sections above and may start from scratch again.

I hope my review was useful and you will find as entertaining as I did. Thanks <<less

This story is almost perfect. One of the bests. And I'm telling you, I've been a fantasy-action-adventure-romance reader ever since Highschool. I have high standards. Yet this story was able to fulfill all my wishes and even gave a satisfying ending, which is rare.

I was also an avid reader of MXTX. TRAPDHTBITL is comparable to her works.

The MC's internal dialogues are so funny. Similar to Shen Qingqui who is cold on the outside, screaming f*ck inside.

ML is my ideal yandere. That's all I can say. Because... he's just so... extremely... more>> satisfying. Hahaha

Spoiler

Although I found the Angel trial in the Tower of God a bit boring, the story is overall best.

this is a definitely a good story! Highly recommended! It's about the MC a fake black powder who tranmigrated to a novel that he likes so much. The MC is deaf. Tbh it's hard to find MC who is deaf. So, it's really amazing. The MC is a lil bit dense cause he want to follow the original plot. The ML (xiu) is a character in the novel that the MC tranmigrated to. He has eight races blood in his body and change his body to anything from his blood... more>> (human, lich/the undead, gnome, demon, elf, dragon, beastkin and angel.) the story was so fluffy and hot at the same time. I mean the ML get 8 different body and personality and *cough* eight *cough* ways *cough* to papapa *cough* ahem. I tell you, the papapa scene is great (can say it's hardcore ah) like every form of his body got papapa scene. (*Cough* I like the demon one) ahem back to the storyline, the ML really get a tragic life hoho like the MC said, he want to kill the author for making the protagonist suffer. Everyone betrayed him, even his childhood friends. So sad! This never get boring cause the plot goes really well. Thumbs up! I don't think there's a plot hole. Every canon fodder doesn't feel like they're just there to as bystanders to help the story goes on cause you really feel their significant towards the plot. (I especially love heidi the most-you'll knoe y if you read the novel) the villains is unexpected and the ending to unexpected. Tbh I feel sorry towards the villains huhu (and the mc's rival too). Most importantly, this novel will never disappoint you! Read it so you don't regret anything! Adios! <<less

The MC is deaf which doesn't happen alot in my novels. The romance is kind of slow, it starts off in chapter 19 I think but the MC still thinks of it as bromance. He doesn't really realize his feeling until much later on in the book. There is some smut but it's more about fighting and the MC trying to guide the ML on his way to being a god and fighting all the characters that oppose them. The other put slot of thought into the fights, there's so... more>> much description of them and I love it! I really recommend this book to anyone and everyone! <<less

This is the very first bl novel I've ever read and it has really left a big imprint on my mind and heart.

The story is really really good in my opinion. No matter how many other bl novels I've read, none of those can match this fantastic novel in my heart. It is very unique... the arc, the characters and others. I really really love the story and the characters.

It's a great read. At first the story seems slow but then as you keep reading it's like in the blink of a eye you've read so many chapters. It's gripping, sad and upsetting while also being funny, sweet and possessive. You can feel the love shared between them although at times the protagonist's choices can seem a little bit mean but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that what he's doing makes sense.

Be warned though smut is deep and detailed so it's perfect if you're the type... more>> that likes it when the uke (bottom) is being ravaged and filled up by the seme (top) but if you aren't comfortable with that then you can just ignore it and keep reading the rest.

It's possessive, cute and funny with a dark undertone. Awesome. Full stars; good story. <<less

P.S To be honest I first attracted to this story because of the cover, LOL. Thats's how great a cover from a book actually has an impact, even though people said dont judge a book from the cover but a nice cover will tempt people to take a sneak on it righhttt? First of all, i'd like to thanks the translator for their hard work. Really, the translation is great. Anyway, I like this story, the smut are great (LOL), the ML is definitely a Male God, truly a Male... more>> God, LOL, I really like his every appearances (from the seven races), and always looking forward to how the ML will do the MC with the new appearance LOL. This is truly a story describing what will a loyal reader (though the MC actually disguised as a blackpowder fans) do if they're transported to the novel they like. Of course, protect the protagonist and enjoying the plot ravelling im front of him like some theatrical drama!

It started out well for me... the MC transmigrate into a western fantasy world and is shown to suffer some serious disabilities that can only be detrimental to him, especially in a world that only favours the strong and talented. The premise is great. I was so looking forward to him meeting the ML and go adventuring together, but also very keen to see how his disabilities bring about some interesting new dynamics.

By ch30 or so, I was not enjoying anymore. First, it was annoying how the MC goes... more>> all bonkers over the harem girls: how one has the most beautiful eyes, the other is the most saintly, the other the sexiest, that one the prettiest bla bla bla... It happened so often that it became repetitive and irritating.

I don't mind stories with deus ex machina. Since the ML is OP and the MC has godly power of 'spoilers', you kinda expect conflicts to be resolved with just a flick of the finger. I don't mind OP characters. But, I don't like plot incoherences or illogical character behaviour just so the author can stick to a specific plotline. To me a succubus is a succubus, and having a succubus act ooc feels off, especially if not reasoned well... it was the same for many other characters like gods, angels, cerberus, demons etc... It just does not seem believable when those familiar fantasy legends act ooc.

I feel like the mishmash of all the world's myths and religions (celtic, jewish, viking, christian, asian, greek) was not done well. Each mythology are culture specific and have rigid philosophy and aesthetics. If you are going to mix them all together, you better give a good explanation. I love xuanhuan and I do not mind mixing fantasy elements, but the author has to coherently explain how all those worlds come together. Sadly here, it felt like the author just lazily threw all the worlds mythological and biblical characters into one book without much thought or care as to coherence.

It's a shame because I do like the MC and the ML. Their love story is a classic of the chinese BL genre and I love their kind of romance. Unfortunately the setting they evolve in is just too much of a mess. Writing this, I am at chapter 60 and painfully trying to finish this novel. <<less

I'm an MXTX fan and as I was reading Scum Villain, I noticed that the translator had finished this project. I decided to read The Reader and Protagonist (TRAP) and I haven't regretted it.

The story is quite funny and not too complicated. It's just a reader who got transported into the world of the novel he was reading after he (jokingly) urged the author to make changes to the novel. The author listened to the reader and changed the novel into an edgy, tragic novel... probably with a bad ending... more>> in mind.

The MC and ML are fun. I mean, there are not many misunderstandings and their interactions are the type that make me smile or laugh.

The smut is interesting. There's actually detailed smut which is extremely rare for Chinese novels. I'm both shocked and pleased.

As the other reviews have said, the ending is very satisfying. Since the story is one of the few BL ones that is completely translated, I've given it a 5-star rating. <<less

Read this a while back but I just wanted to give it a review... The translator's work was incredible: grammar on point and fast updates. *double thumbs up* The plot was enjoyable and the MC + ML scenes were sweet and lovely. MC and ML complemented each other well. What really drew me in was the ML's ability to transform into his different forms (super cool/handsome/drool-worthy!!). The MC loving each side of his ML is something I won't forget about this novel. Other characters were interesting, too. Overall, sweet and... more>> lovely read, kinda leaves a bitter taste in my mouth for some reason. Maybe I just want more...? (^_^) / <<less

If you love your BL novel to have a little 'meat' this one is for you. Its thought out, have good MC and Male Lead, predictable but enjoyable plot, and good smex. The ML is the overly overused cliche yandere, however a yandere is good anywhere in any novel to me, so I enjoyed it. The MC do not just let things happen to him, he actually participate to change the circumstances around him. The plot is the super predictable dragon ball z -esque going from weak to strong but... more>> it doesn't matter since the journey is the most important thing, not the destination. And its very enjoyable on how the author create the races and their effect on the travelling MC and ML party. The ending is quite weak, but a Happy End is a Happy End and one should't question it too much. <<less

I'm a s*upid dumpling enough to fail to find a discussion on this story on the site (or is it just missing?), But since I read this book, I'm ready to write a review.

Frankly speaking, for a long time I could not decide to start reading this novel. As a fan of Chinese fantasy \ xianxia \ wuxia, I was a little broken by the brain of a combination of purely European elements of folklore with Chinese details. But then I sat down to read, and woke up only on... more>> the thirtieth chapter: "Wow! This is quite interesting!"

The entourage of a mad hybrid of genres - angels, elves, legendary weapons, gods, and so on in abundance led me to think that this resembles a revived game of the beginning of the two thousand years, something in the style of "Slayers Next" with a silly, cute reader in the center. At first it seemed like a rather a noisy mess with a bunch of levels, but then you gradually understand what is happening and watch with a satisfied grin on how our glorious invincible and impressive-all-world hero Xiu wears a reader in his hands ~

Du Ze is an interesting guy. He seems quiet, emotionless, cold, but this is only his facial paralysis, which the poor fellow has amassed because of failed friends. He's very smart. He is intelligent. He is loyal and patient. This faith and love should be learned from him.

Am I satisfied with the end? It is hard to say.

Spoiler

I feel sorry for the world destroyed, I feel sorry for Xiu, who was in the darkness of the millennium.

[collapse]

But I am happy that they gave themselves to each other. In the end, this story is about The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love, right? <<less
