Heroic Death System

“I curse you to never die in peace!”

Thus, Shang Ke started a never-ending cycle of constantly throwing away his miserable life.

He would always show himself as a martyr while letting others cry over his death.

It was because of a woman’s curse that Shang Ke was hit by a car and turned into a human vegetable. This led to him becoming bound by an unlucky system in which he was cursed to die. The most unfortunate part was that he never cheated on anyone’s feelings. The reason for why he was cursed by a woman was because of a guy named Qi Chen. Qi Chen was a ladies man, and he would always use Shang Ke as an excuse to break up with any woman that he was with. As a result, Shang Ke was always blamed for the breakups. Since then, the main character could only be forced to cross into different worlds. He would thus experience for himself, the hero’s “thrill”.

It's one of my favs. I can't get bored from this. Time to time I would back and re-read it again; either read some random arcs or from the start to the recent update. It's right for my taste.

Lead couple was power couple. Both of them could be said as OP imo. I like MC, ML and their whole dynamic. I just read this for their dog food.

But, I dont know why chapter that being displayed here isnt same as on the translator page. It's almost done. Now, when I... more>> write this, I'm waiting for its ending. <<less

I loves the first few chapters but unfortunately this seems to be falling into the same traps that QWFD is ie the arcs are getting longer and longer, and there is less and less material for the author to work with. Some of the best arcs have been the earliest ones however, as the author writes more, it begins to feel like they are running out of ideas. The writing and translation is both wonderful but the later arcs also struggle with repetition where there are only so many ways... more>> for the MC to die heroicly.

I don't want anyone reading this to think I hate the book. On the contrary, it is very good just I think the author limited themselves in the beginning with a book idea that is quite narrow and they used the best ideas earlier on. So fair warning while MC is still amazing, the worlds become ridiculous and the tragedy becomes forced and repetitive. <<less

I love this novel!

Shang Ke is a Queen Shou *laughs* I love how the MC and the ML interact with each other. Their growing love and all of their accumulated experiences is so nice to read about.

My favorite parts would be about the "backtracking arcs" — going back to the BE (Bad Ending) Arcs and making them HE (Happy Ending) was so nice to read about.

... more>> The system was explained at the end, and it also included the explanation about the ML's trademark. (His mole on his palm)

I made it 5 stars since the pros weigh heavier than the cons. If you don't like Open Ended Novels (Like me, lol) then I suggest that you don't read the final arc. (The back to the initial world) There's no difference anyway.

Spoiler

I thought that we were way past the moment of dying heriocally at that point but it just had to "start again"

The dog blood abuse made all of the joy that I've felt once I've finished reading the backtracking arcs diminish.

I was just sad.

And then I read the final chapter.

The final chapter was mostly being reborn and starting life over again. Growing as a normal person with the ML.

It's nice but like all other reviews, I wish that the origin of the MC and the ML was explained more. (I wish that this was the final arc instead)

But, if I won't think about the final arc then, yes. I can re-read all of my favorite arcs once again.

[collapse]

So, that's it.

It's really nice and one of the longest BL novels that I've read. I'm glad that I did. Thank you very much for your efforts! It is worth it. <<less

It's the only novel that I'm patiently wait to be fully translated even after years. And during the wait, I reread the previous arcs and it always feels good. My fave is Let Me Protect You and A+A

The premise is a bit similar with QWFOD, but without face slapping segment. Our dear MC is such a kind heart and kind soul, and since the mission is to death heroically, your heart with ache with all his selflessness. You will feel pain.

But then, the last arc RUIN IT FOR ME. IT'S... more>> tr*sh. R*peY ML REALLY FCKING ANNOYING AND MC JUST CASUALLY ACCEPT ALL OF THAT. Why did the writer ruin this story so bad. I'm so pissed off. <<less

Great!

The arc's has been properly introduced and have been wrap up with how the MC went back through every world to make the BE into HE.

The ending could have been more informative and like I actually didn't like it at all. They could have been clear on the ML more and like it isn't like the type of HE h That actually that gives the "happy" mood more or less.

I actually liked every arc but the arc of god's is the most boring one for me. The ML is very... more>> possessive and I actually hated some of the ML entrance in the few arc and wanted him to feel the pain. MC is clever not to the point of unbeatable, he even failed some world.

One thing is that when they fell in love together is unrealistic, it's not fast paced because they gradually became intimate in each world' but like the memories of ML is fixiated into 1 it's like fragments but the author didn't made it as if they are things ML obtained like past memories of the reincarnations.

Idk about the ending but I think it is between HE and BE.

Longest danmei novel I've ever read. But never regretted it (actually I regret reading the ending I could have imagine my own ending because I didn't like this ending)

I actually wish the author create another novel about the MC because after the ending,

Spoiler

MC entered normal reincarnation and like I wanted to know what happen because the ending is so unsatisfying to me I wanted the fragments to be all together in one piece so like all the things they had gone to memories and stuff can be remembered by like the main ML I meant his body with all fragments

You should read this at least because of diversity weird arcs and plots. It's really fun, for example about evil pen, mashroom and dolphin.

Many interesting arcs and although I was read couple of system novels but I didn't see similar. This is always modern time then cultivation world and zombie apocalypse, showbusiness all it same.

But in this story has good idea with sacrificing for other people and author seriously wrote plot. Even first story is pretty memorable. ABO story a bit breaks genre rules.

MC is powerful and developing, he... more>> doesn't silly or much emotional. And he quickly understands and accepts his feels. I can say he is charming, attractive and I understand why ML fells in love on him. This novel full of suffering but all world can get happy end later. They're sweet and fresh. Really love them. <<less

It’s a 3.5, Well, it’s not too deep, and there’s reflection on life or philosophy, the characters are a bit better than paper thin, but the variety of universe is pretty nice, making for fun and mostly original worlds hopping.

The relationship between the character is mostly cute and ok - if you can live with many BL stereotype, and by that I mean, one man and one « female » man - it’s not excessive but appart from boyish skills, the MC is still having a lot of « good... more>> wife » attributes (infinite care and patience for a buzzling hyper child.. Oups I meant husband - Thankfully, it is still low key, it’s more like a flavor than a plain boring narrative.

Despite this not too fascinating premise, I appreciate the fact that the MC is neither OP or totally powerless, and the relationships are mostly balanced too.

The « heroic » part make him de very non ambiguous good guy, but the story invitation for tragedy actually add lots of possibilities for different kind of endings, and a few surprises. Added to the pretty original universe, while it certainly won’t be too deeply remembered, it still made for an enjoyable read

I seriously could have done without the quasi s*x episodes : they add nothing to the story, and the « quasi » part make for an awkward addition (it actually add to the « male/feminized male thing, with the usual one is a hungry beast thing, but at least, the other one still enjoy thankfully). Maybe some readers will appreciate the very non explicit/explicit addition, but I usually don’t understand the narrative purpose (except maybe in the last arc, because it actually does have a story interest), but in all case, that or an ellipse would be the same. Well at least, it is Pretty much integrated in the story, and it is in no way disruptive of the storytelling which is a good point.

That’s about it, I did not cry bucket, as it did not play so badly on my heartstring. I certainly shed a few tears here and there as i’m a super little heart when it comes to sad things, but it never was unbearable : it is within the calculation of the protagonist. If I think a bit, there quite a few horrible things but I don’t know, it feels a bit distant in way ? Maybe because the MC is himself is very detached from all of that, it certainly removes you a bit from empathizing too much ? So depiste the title, and quite a few tragic episode, it did not feel like a tragedy either :) <<less

Highly recommended!!

I love the plot, the ML and the MC. I was a bit hesitant at first cause of tragedy tag but as the story progress, he can go back and rewrite the ending. It was well written and the character development is solid ❤❤.

This was good for QT. Similar to QWFOD (also with a very possessive/overbearing ML) but there are arcs worth rereading again and again. Good writing and pretty original worlds for the MC to pass his time heroically.

Other people have given great reviews on what makes this story good, so I'll be the downer here and talk about the problems, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Other than the yandere ML, the dubcon, here are some of the strange turns the story takes later:

Spoiler

The ML's soul does a weird thing and the mole on his hand pretty much becomes a sentient character by itself... This is used in several major plot points to confuse the MC. In the beginning, it was intriguing/mysterious and some parts were touching/tragic, but overall that plot twist got more and more convoluted until it didn't add anything to the overall storyline.

It was like the author ran out of ideas on how to resolve the main conflict (vs. The Villain, who hasn't yet appeared in the translated parts). But seriously, the mole-is-a-person. #dead

[collapse]

Spoiler

Also the origin love story for the MC/ML were only seen in flashbacks. I would have liked to see more details about the cultivation world and how they fell in love/how the entire QT started basically, but the author pretty much glosses over all those parts and the reader never gets a good answer.

[collapse]

And finally...

Spoiler

I really enjoyed the long story when the MC returned to the modern world/regular life he was leading before the system and how he realized that being gay was a big problem in RL China. He also treated the status gap between him and the ML pretty realistically (there was a big contrast on how the MC calculated risks regarding their relationship) kind of like if a gamer suddenly went back to "real life". However, I was disappointed that the ending was pretty abrupt and he died pretty much ASAP again, and that was the final world so yeah... the author just states that everything is great after that without actually showing it =|.

It felt like the author got tired of writing near the end and just tied everything off.

[collapse]

Overall most of the worlds are really worth reading. Translation is top-notch! Much thanks to Snowy & others for their hard work! <<less

I’ve cried plenty but the story quickly gets repetitive, while taking its own unique spin on the system setting.
There is dubcon (dubious consent) as a relevant theme with all the world hopping. The situations themselves are not orthodox and with how much a sad*st the author truly is, it’s entertaining.
Know before hand that this story can be rather triggering as it tries to introduce plot lines that deal with racial, interracial, religious, objectification, and other contexts to add to the variety of the worlds.

Spoiler

And perhaps some day I’ll type single word impressions of what arcs been translated so far.

This is a great read, MC dies heroically in every arc causing great pain to ML (obviously). There were a few arcs here that make me cry really badly, because of MC's characterisation. MC does try to stay alive and complete the missions but is unable to, but he does get a second chance in the later arcs!!

The ML in this novel is great. He isn't a great overpowered person that manages to stop bad things from happening to MC, instead is usually the cause of MC's missions and death.

Spoiler

What I especially like about this novel is that MC is not OP. He does fail arcs and most of the time does not finish all given missions.

[collapse]

While I've read many world hopping genres, this is one of the few that I especially like and will reread almost all chapters again. <<less

this is a newbie. *Mosquito voice* hello~ *shyly raises hand*

I really love this to death even though I hasn't been completed yet. In the sea of fast wears where MC and ML falls in love in the first world and spends a lifetime together, this novel that cruelly cuts off Shang Ke (MC) 's life makes the falling in love process a difficult journey! ??
Spoiler

In the first world, MC basically didn't have romantic interactions with ML. ML looks like he knew he loved MC. In the second world though, they both mutually fell in love (MC denies it but actually likes ML a bit too *squeals*) and when he died in that world, MC first promised that he'll give it a try in the next life (their relationship) as Ian and Bruno.

[collapse]

In this dog-blood soaked WebNovel, MC identifies ML with the mole in his palm that has a speciaaaal meaning ?? This is actually quite refreshing because from other identification processes (soul aura, or smthing) and can lead to great misunderstandings
Spoiler

In the ABO arc, ML scratched his palm when he was a kid and the mole disappeared along with the scratch (R.I.P. Mole-sama)

[collapse]

The reason of MC's death is realistic and reasonable as well as the award the system gives him. MC is very all-around on the outside (super pretty, super talented, super everything good) but he's not that smart (?) and acts ordinary. MC doesn't see his system much and system doesn't like MC either (?)

MC doesn't OCC or drastically changes orig's personality if he comes in late in the world. He mostly uses his own name (Shang Ke) if orig doesn't have one. He still thinks he's himself in his thoughts and isn't too immersed in acting (he refers to himself as his orig name) but he calls ML with his name in their recent world.

We have no current news of where the f ML is from and what he is from where I am standing currently. You can tell that the author really put in effort in each arc (each arc is so beautiful but my favorites for now is heart transplant arc and mushroom arc). The writing style is good, the puns are better, and the fluff is the best ????

Really worth it to read in my opinion ?

I think that I would probably not change my vote if I do complete the HDS ?

  • MC- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • ML- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Plot- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This novel is similar to FoD but it has some flaws along with some charms. I think people are too quick to compare the two. It is a very good novel and the different realms are very unique. I do not want to spoil the storyline too much but I would recommend reading through the first 3-4 arcs before deciding on if the novel is worth it. Do not compare it to FOD and you will appreciate the storyline more.

So I read 200 chapters of raws for this, cause I got hooked and couldn't wait. Translator is doing an awesome job as well, just me being impatient. But hey, this got me to read a language I'm not very confident in, so props to it.

The ML does like to force himself on to the MC, sometimes without explicit consent, so there's that for all those looking to read this. It's implied that the MC is okay with it, cause he has memories and recognises him and all that, but... more>> it's still r*pe so, you've been warned.

Otherwise, story is both heart wrenching and tooth-rottingly fluffy. All the arcs have an overarching backstory that connects them, and the worlds are rather unique (compared to other transmigration stories I've read) as well. The author resolves everything nicely, and sprinkles in twists that readers would have taken for granted.
Spoiler

I especially love it when she gives the system a personality - and it all fits logically into the storyline! It makes everything so much more interesting when she introduced the 3rd party. And the 4th.

[collapse]

It can't really be compared to QWFOD, cause the premise of the MCs are different. One has a very specific goal to wreck the world, the other is just going from world to world until the situation changes, but they both have their own merits. <<less

Listen to everyone and the ratings and just read it!

Yes it's another world hopping or fast-wear novel like the infamous FOD, but I believe this is also a must read just to say you read it first of all, but also because I feel as if it's one of those classics or master that shows you what a good novel is.

There are a few arcs where the stories and worlds are completely unique and a whole lot of fun. I won't spoil what they are since the majority are in... more>> the later half of the novel. But basically it feels as if the author did one of those random 3 nouns scrambler and made a story based on those words and then created some of the greatest arcs of all the world hopping/fast-wears/system novels. They are truly spectacular! Not to mention, it's not just 2 or 3 really amazing and unique arcs, it's around 10 to 12 unique arcs!

Now, if you are still afraid to read it because you only want HE and the title is making you think the protagonist will have to die heroically each arc.... well, you're not wrong. Plus the MC dying really hurts or dear poor yandere ML... HOWEVER! MC will still receive HE endings for those arcs. I won't spoil how or why or what the mother of fudge I'm talking about... I believe it will be touched on after the 2nd arc. (Clearly the author knew their readers needed HE!)

Relationship! Yes the ML is your stereotypical yandere ML who is also OP! Yes, MC has a broken golden finger and also becomes OP if not more so. Their lives are full of fluff and eating tofu--the deed tends to fade to black, summarize, or be more or less explicit in alternation... (it's yummy none the less and the author doesn't over do it).

Now for my complaints... A novel this amazing that you want it to go on forever tends to have its kinks.
My first issue is: the ending was extremely poorly wrapped up... It did not feel like an ending at all! It completely left me craving for more and checking many times just to make sure that I actually read the final chapter... It was EEEEEVVVVVVIIILLLLLLL!~
2nd complaint: this is more how I personally feel, but I was neither impressed nor awed by the zombie arc... I tend to be slightly biased towards my zombie apocalypse arcs (probably because the first zombie danmei novel was Number One Zombie Wife and I fell hard in love with it...) In any case, I tend to hold really high expectations for the zombie arcs. They don't all have to follow the same looking for a cure, rebirth, military, zombie powers!, and kill zombie king arcs, I'm open to them all. I was open to the zombie arc as well, and the premise was good (so not gonna spoil), the setting was fun, the entrance into the world grabbed me, and I can understand why the author used the zombie arc when they did. I think what killed it for me was the execution going from the getting the mission task to delivering a major plot point at the end of that arc. It was good, it makes sense, but it was not nearly as strong as some of the other arcs. But it is sort of necessary to read...
Last but not least... I really... REALLY, wish the truth was better explained and we got to see more of the true antagonist in all of this. Why not make the arc before the really world an arc going back in time and seeing what truly happened! Then you solve everything! Except the final showdown! It's like Harry Potter just before the final showdown learning everything and everything coming together to finally make sense! *sigh* maybe it was actually just my mtling...

But yes! This novel is absolutely wonderful! You should absolutely read it! Sorry for ranting...

God speed readers! <<less

It's okay. More focused around the plot and the various worlds than the characters making them feel very flat. Though that might be because I've been reading unedited chapters?

From the reviews section, I actually find myself agreeing with Mikleo when they say it feels like you're scanning rather than reading a story. It's not really noticeable if you don't think about it since there's a lot of content in each arc, but decisions are generally not really being made but rather have already been made and are just being told,... more>> if that makes any sense...

I also agree with Wife of Sove, who said that the main character shifts personalities from world to world. It connects back to how I said the characters were very flat, the main character has no personal motivation or agenda, just those that align with their system. So every time they switch worlds, our main character ambition and personality change. Which is... eh. Understandable if a bit unpleasant.

Still, I give this a 5 out of 5, mostly because I simply liked reading it. The points I mentioned aren't necessarily bad, just makes for a different type of reading than some other stories.

The worlds are pretty interesting and each situation feels pretty unique, even for their respective genres. <<less
