It's like every other xanxia, only if you took out every bit of flourish. The MC powers up and everyone spends time circlejerking him, but the details are sparse, the action is sparse, the cultivation is entirely generic. Besides the ruthlessness, this doesn't have a single original selling point, but either way it doesn't have any good writing.

This is a bit of an early drop so I can hardly claim with complete confidence it never improves, but I also can hardly guess how it would.

I'm not really sure what I expected from this story. The synopsis clearly states that the entire story is about a proud reincarnated saint, stronger and wiser than any other existing being. But even so, I could never believe that a story could actually be in such a loop. The MC is like a kid with a hammer. He swings it left and right in a righteous manner but every time he tries to explain his actions he is simply stating his superiority. And this happens once every ten or... more>> so chapters. Enjoyable?.. yes.. brain food material?... no.. I will check this story in the future if my heart will allow me to do so. Read at your own risk. Its not awful or anything like that. The only problem is the simplicity that will slowly swallow the entire story leaving only boredom. <<less

Like said before MC is overly cruel and all the crowd are overly s*upid. Like MC gives two choices, do an humiliating thing or your clan are all bastards. Let's do the humiliating thing because he said we'd be called bastards if we didn't. What sort of logic is that?

He's castrating 2 people just because they are from the enemy clan (in a conflict where no blood had been spilled...) and they are trying to buy the pills at MC's shop. And of course the crowd thinks it's totally... more>> justified.

Killing evildoers or being cruel to someone who deserves it, OK, but meaningless cruelty, no especially from the start. <<less

Review as of Ch.35.

The immediate comparisons would be Peerless Martial God and Chaotic Sword God, but sped up. It dispenses the need to build any sort of sympathy background for the MC. Both MCs from PMG and CSG had a history of being oppressed and thus gave rise to their ruthlessness. But Dragon-Marked War God’s Jiang Chen doesn’t have this. Frankly speaking, there isn’t a need to as the story is a straight-up “I’m overpowered and I know it and I’m not shy about letting everyone know it” type of... more>> deal. It dispenses the need to build Jiang Chen’s sad story: all you need to know is that the greatest martial artist was reborn/transmigrated into the body of a useless reprobate after a hundred years and he wants to be the top again.

The MC awakens to find himself kidnapped, merges his old memories with the new, proceeds to refine his strength while in captivity and kills his kidnappers within a day. All in the first chapter.

What you have here is basic xianxia. You’re not going to root for Jiang Chen because he’s doing the right thing, you’re going to read about him crushing anyone in his way. Readers might enjoy the no-nonsense progression of the novel thus far. The translation is excellent and quite fast.

Maybe because there’s only 30ish chapters translated so far, but it hasn’t gotten boring yet even though it’s nothing new or special. You have an overpowered MC who is skilled in martial arts, able to refine pills and in the latest translated chapter; also knowledgeable in medicine. This and that happened, watch how the MC going to deal with it using his skills. Oh, the bad guys lost horribly? Here, get a castration and extra humiliation as a bonus!

As I said earlier, you won’t find a heroic MC here. He is merciless bordering on cruel, a similar comparison is Li Xuan of Martial Emperor Reborn. It can be a guilty pleasure to read, because there’s nothing to tax your mind about it. <<less

Don't waste your time with this tr*sh, if you looking for funny or comedy novel, I can recommend to you way better than this one!! Why would I call this novel tr*sh aka garbage? Because there's a lot s*upid logic in the plot, well I stopped asap when I notice that, because the rest of the story would get messed up. Well pardon me if my standard is too high. If you love MGA, you may love this one though. I personally HATE that sh*t!!

I just dropped it. I'm out of patience, it is just repetitive fights with enemies more powerful, a level up and tadaa !

MC wins

It was promising and had humor and beginning but it ended up with only scat jokes and waifus being useless.

SO you can begin it but stop when you grow bored cause it will probably happen

Just huge thumbs up for translators and editors for their jobs and I hope after this novels end they will pick one that is way abose in terms of quality

This Story is PERFECT for me!

No deep emotional downs, no big long tensions about the wellbeeing / survival of the MC or his friends / family, hilarious momends every once in a while (Big Yellows Whirlwind ***), fun situationes / developements again and again.

I F*CKING LOVE THIS STORY! ♥ ♥ ♥

MC is pure arrogance, sociopath, genocidal, has plot armor to the point that the author could not give him a headache.

But MC cultivates great sh*t soul technique so X doesn' apply.

MC is a genius among men because he cultivates BS technique that surpasses immortals in a mortal world.

... more>> MC claims to be a young genius therefore cannot be killed by senior generation except MC is older than every character introduced by at east a thousand years.

If what you have can help me or mine then it' mine is his attitude to everything.

Series started off well but now it' just nauseating. <<less

I love this novel and it is great addition to my other novels (ATG, MGA, TDG, LHP, etc). I love the big yellow dog and the non-monk. The style is closer to Emperor's Domination where you have an OP character leveling up with minor obstacles and beating up everyone up effortlessly. Contrast that to Against the gods and Martial god asura, where the characters struggle all the time and often will suffer a minor setback.

Anyhow, the dog and monk is pretty good comic relief. I leveling up is pretty neat.... more>> The character isnt overbearing. <<less

A novel about a self-righteous prick as the MC.

The story starts well until some certain point where MC`s IQ seems to degenerated and become arrogant af as he reach higher level.

Althought MC reincarnated and supposed to be wise old op elder, he act like a teenager and offend alot of people with lame excuses like "i need it for me or my asskisser follower and i`m so OP so give it to me or die!". MC rob, lie, scheme, etc everytime he can, more like a bandit.

The existence... more>> of Jiang Chen is destined to ridicule thousands of geniuses... while I ridicule the level of MC intelect, which probably lower than a monkey...

Pretty similar to MGA with the arrogance and repetitive s*upid plot. a braindead novel. <<less

The protagonist is OP, which is fine. The only thing that bothers me is how enemy he faces eventually gets defeated on their first encounter. Also, it bothers me that people suddenly trust him after doing one amazing thing or saying something they don't know. I like the novel, but I would of eventually dropped it if it wasn't for the dog. The dog is the only thing that keeps me reading it. If they ever remove the dog, then i'll drop it and I won't look back.

Spoiler

Out of numerous other xianxia, this is just another one. Thus DMWG is fast paced with a rinse-and-repeat plot of a genius MC beating up those who offend him. (Example: His family and another family clash in their city, he defeats them to be in charge of the city, he then moves along to another place to get stronger where the same situation is at place.)

People are divided into white for good and black for evil, and Jiang Chen is apparently the one bestowed with the authority to judge and sentence them because he was the equivalent to a god before. And we get reminded that every few chapters, just in case you forget. Minor characters are altogether left behind in story and in mind -- as they should be. The MC conveniently grows stronger just in time to become OP for an initially intended clutch battle.

It's a xianxia, you get what you expect. Suck it up.

[collapse]

Now let's talk about why dropping this novel has never crossed my mind.
Spoiler

1. I love OP leads. I like his justified displays of power. I like he isn't OP immediately, so it's almost like an RPG at certain times. (Ex: Quest--Save Chen Yu. Defeat monster -> Get soul -> Make pill)
2. It's full to the brim with action, and it can get pretty exciting. As in, drop everything and read 10 chapters in one go exciting.
3. I said it before: the pace is fast, but it is not rushed. This means Jiang Chen does not bullsh*t around.
4. Our translator, Ares, delivers very good quality translations + surprise bulk updates.
5. The characters we do get to keep i.e. The major ones, are likable. Big Yellow was annoying at first, but now I appreciate his silliness. He also helps give Jiang Chen personality.
6. I dislike harems, and this isn't a harem. Whew.
7. The spectators in the story are our voices, they're like the chorus in a greek play! :O
8. The arcs are short (10-30 chapters) and a pleasure to read, and this sentence is an understatement.

Spoiler

Around 150s
His girlfriend suffers a fatal injury and Jiang Chen gets pissed. Ok, that was a bad summary, but trust me it was exciting. I really enjoyed his reaction and we finally get to understand him a little. Ah, Jiang Chen, even though a Saint before, is still a human. It was an unexpected and a refreshing break from the monotonous pattern I mentioned before. It was different.

Around 270s
Big Yellow is f*cking hilarious, I officially love him now. When you get to the part I'm talking about, oh you'll know.

I don't consider myself an expert in xianxia since I've read a little less than 10 thus far, but if you're a beginner like me, go ahead and give DMWG a try. It's one of the better ones. I picked it up because it's relatively short (for now) so it's easier to get into, and now I'm staying for the long haul. I find it fun to read. (4.5/5) <<less

It's a popcorn story with little deeper plot behind its main storyline other than the Dragon Transformation technique.
The story is nothing particularly outstanding, with the average "stronger character shows up every few chapters followed by power-up" storyline, followed by people being in awe over how great the protagonist is.
At the point where I'm at, the main heroine barely shows up or does anything, the other heroine is also barely relevant and just serves to provide an excuse for the protagonist to be allied with one of the main... more>> families. <<less

This “novel” is an uninspired, bog-standard power-fantasy wish-fulfillment xianxia.

This is the most stereotypical xianxia I’ve read, filled to the brim with oversaturated cliches that have been repeated more than a dozen times before.

I recommend it to people who are new to xianxia, just to be better read, and since the cliches wouldn’t be so painful. If you’ve read this then you’ve basically read most xianxia.

—Yes, you got barely sentient young masters, bound to be face slapped. Well, all the characters are like that: two-dimensional cutouts, barely sentient, barely alive, with... more>> no personality besides either being extremely s*upid and arrogant or extremely infatuated with the protagonist.

—Yes, we got an overpowered main character, making cultivation realms a redundancy thanks to his being able to beat those multiple realms above himself.

—Yes, the protagonist is the reincarnation of the #1 in his world. Very original. And he is reborn into the body of a youth with the same name.

—Yes, he starts in the weakest city in the weakest province in the weakest country in the weakest region in the weakest continent in the weakest universe, and his progression is made useless when he goes to stronger places.

—Yes, he collects soulless trophy jade beauties, who have absolutely no personality besides wanting the protagonist’s c*ck.

—Yes, when the protagonist goes into a more powerful area, it becomes a repeat of whatever happened before: offend young master -> faceslap young master -> young master gets his dad -> dad slapped -> dad gets his dad -> grandfather is faceslapped -> repeat

The background might be different, and maybe you can add a few trophy jade beauties in there, but essentially this is the spine of the plots (yes, with an s). Even when he ascends to higher realms, its the same shit.

—Yes, there is, somehow, justified genocide by the main character—with narrative endors**ent.

It’s awful, but I gave it an extra star because it can be enjoyable, as long as you deactivate 99% of your braincells. <<less

It gets so bad later on. The MC always gets some half-asses powerup every fight and its the same formula wherever he goes.... more>>
Spoiler

After he ascends to the divine world, the story goes from decent to mega tr*sh. First, the story is wayyy to slow compared to before and the author seems to want to anger the reader. For example, xuanyuan canglan tricks jiang chen and is able to escape? In the past, juang chen never did something like this and now he does it. It is extremely irritating to see the MC getting clowned and doing s*upid things.

Initially, it was a great story about Jiang Chen, a MC that reincarnated to have a second chance at reaching the peak of the martial world. With his previous life experience he was able to solve any problems and easily crush his adversaries in the mortal realm (Saint Origin World, around ch 1-1057). The story plot then doesn't really make any sense after he ascends to the immortal realm (covering ch 1054-2124). It basically goes through the same pattern, MC randomly attracts hate, MC kills s*upid people and attracts more... more>> hate. Then MC finds treasure and gets stronger and kills his enemies. Now he jumps to another higher world (the Divine World, ch. 2125 and on). Somehow his alchemy and forging skill is still the best, he can still jump levels to fight, and all the while his IQ drops dramatically.

Spoiler

I'm writing this review while reading ch. 2446 because I find it really irritated after reading the last dozens of chapter. How TF does Xuanyuan Canglan steal the Taoties soul? What happened to the MC danger sensor? Then Jiang Chen lets the idiot escape because another idiot stood in his way (an idiot that gets backstabbed and dies anyway) while being half dead Xuanyuan Canglan still managed to easily squeeze out an ability to alter everyone memory. Like why didn't the taotie use this OP AF ability during the fight and frames Jiang Chen for being a mass mu*derer? And somehow Xuanyuan Canglan used the ability like there's no side-effects. He appears later perfectly fine. The even funnier thing is, Jiang Chen then goes on a killing spree after leaving the secret realm... like wtf, you could've just killed them in the secret realm then, what a waste of several chapters.

[collapse]

Like most long novels, it gets progressively worse as you read. The author mostly writes for the sake of word count and neglects quality. I might be jumping to conclusion since I'm only on ch. 2446, but this seemed to be the trend since around ch. 1000, after Jiang Chen leaved the Saint Origin world. To new reader, highly suggest stopping after he arrives at the Immortal realm. All the cliff hangers regarding his wives and the dog is not worth it at all, they all seemed to become meaningless after the mysteries are solved and he goes to the Divine realm.
Spoiler

a lot of people died due to a war... oooo... sooo mysterious!... and some people reincarnated... so much wow.... its s*upid how they kept this as a mystery. I don't see the reason this was not public info from the start. It could've made people way more united against a common enemy instead of all the in-fighting and reducing their combat forces... what a missed opportunity

I believe everyone who gave this book more than ☆☆ has never read a book in their life and think this is how a story should be told.

Don't bother reading. There are better ways to waste your life.

This series is a perfect example of what is wrong with the Xianxia/Xuanhuan genre... or rather what's wrong with most of these Chinese Xianxia writers.

No, it's not the worst Xianxia you can find, not even close. The problem is that it's absolutely generic in every way possible, there's nothing about it that makes it stand out compared to its contemporaries. I couldn't give it a 1 star, because at least it's entertaining every once in a while, but you could find the same enjoyment in multiple other Xianxia.

To be more... more>> specific about the problems this novel has, it's basically your usual Xianxia stuff. Hypocritical MC, reused plot points every single arc, all characters intelligence is no higher than a child's, throwaway characters, very shallow romance, 'Honor Before Reason' to the point of ret*rdation and multitude of other cliches of Xianxia.

I'm honestly worried that Chinese readers believe this is good writing, that all of this is reasonable and common sense. I really hope not, but then I don't know how to explain all of these shallow Xianxia series like this being crapped out of their country so regularly like this. <<less
