Yun Qian Yue, the sole legitimate daughter of the Yun Wangfu in the Heavenly Saint Dynasty, was a well-known anarchic young girl who behaved arrogantly and had a bad reputation. During a poem-appreciation gathering, she almost died in a fight for her lover’s favor.

Meanwhile, Li Yun, who was laying down her life for her country, had her soul fall into another world and was reborn as Yun Qian Yue.

An anarchic young girl vs. a young female general – her arrival brought a great change in the seemingly peaceful Heavenly Saint Dynasty.

You said I was arrogant?

I was anarchic?

I was actually the first-class waste of the Heavenly Saint Dynasty, the legitimate daughter of the Yun Wangfu, the designated Crown Princess, and the most distinguished female in the whole Dynasty?

Damn it!

You really had to force me to tell the truth that I feigned all these things?

Dear God, please give me strength to finish this novel.

The FL’s personality made me wonder how she really was in her previous life. Probably because her identity in her past life made me imagine her as someone serious and not carefree and wilful as she is now. I don’t hate her. It’s fun seeing her antic.

What trigger me a lot while reading this novel is always one thing. Why the heck everyone (the ML, her grandpa, her brother) always force her to do everything? Force and threaten her that she... more>> got no other option than to follow them. It’s just so infuriating because this thing keep happening. She keeps getting force to choose or do what she hates that I feel bad for her most of the time. Because of this, I can’t even like the ML. He was quite cute with his jealousy but I just can’t accept how each time he would just force stuff on her. He burnt her painting because she drew pictures of other guy, without even telling her anything. She keeps saying no but nobody fricking listen to her.

This just made me want her to leave her home and get out of the capital and travel around the world alone or with Ye Qing Ran. Qing Ran is probably the only male character that I love here so far. <<less

*Takes a deep breath...

After reading this novel, I had a lot to unpack. I had to take a breather for awhile and read some less dramatic stories to let myself decompress from this story.

First of all... inexplicably, everyone is in love with the MC. It doesn't always make sense... The relationship between MC and ML are really imperfect and flawed... I guess that makes it somewhat real... All the events of the novel will have you caught up in all the emotions and stories along the way. The side characters... more>> all get good time and each one has a fascinating story.

The part to unpack that stressed me up is as follows:

Spoiler

MC is an unreliable narrator. Yup I suspected this but did not know how much she was hiding until near the end of the novel. I felt incredibly sucker punched by discovering a glimpse into her true character. Everyone says they fell in love with her because of her "true temperament." Well... now that it's near the end and I know she's lied about who she is personality wise the whole time, does that mean everyone including the ML fell in love with a lie? After that it was hard to like her. Yes I suspected she was manipulative but to the point that she would use everything including her own emotions, I felt very betrayed as a reader and it made the rest of the novel just a slog to the finish line. Yes all this time I had wondered how someone so intellectual etc would appear to be so silly in some parts of the novel and I was waiting for the grand reveal but it didn't happen for most of the novel and that lulled me into a false sense of security that I had discovered all I could. And then bam the truth comes out. I wonder if the author thinks they are so clever writing such a plot. It was unpleasant to say the least. I have read other unreliable narrators but they don't wait to smack you in the face near the very end. Also it really demeans every human relationship she's ever had as been manipulation with friendship as side bonus. Her character is way too calculating. I ranked the novel this way because of how the novel handled the MC. How can you expect a reader to remain sympathetic and root for her when everything she's done is at least half a lie?

[collapse]

One of the novels most used plots is to matroska doll every one's character and plot. There's always another layer in every character to discover. Another secret to a plot. You'll be unpacking every layer all the way to the last page. The side stories are beautifully told and standalone in their own right. Alright so for those thinking of investing their time into reading this, should you? Well without spoiling too much, there's a big sucker punch moment waiting for the readers and it happens late in the novel that will have a ripple effect on everything. I did not like it. This novel had a lot going for it but when it got to this point, I just lost a lot of passion for what I was reading. Sorry I'm being vague about this. The story is still fascinating and well written in many ways. I don't regret reading it. But I dislike how the last parts of the novel were handled. This may come down to personal taste, but I ended up disliking the MC by the end of the novel. Maybe this won't happen to you. A lot of the novel was beautifully written though, but the author took a risk with the last part of the story and in my eyes, it did not pay off and wasn't well executed. A lot of the plots revolve around the author blinding the reader to the truth and making it difficult to impossible to guess or understand where we're being lead. I prefer novels that give some clues and lets us come to conclusions before revealing the truth even if it turns out we might be wrong, at least it's our fault and not the novel. Here in this novel, small inconsequential details become crucial later on several hundred chapters later but the way it's written is like a deux ex machina aha moment that's impossible to guess parachuting out from nowhere. This happens all throughout the novel. Yes it might sound so clever but it's hard to be clever when the MC's analysis and thoughts are hidden from the reader so she guesses and connects dots impossibly with insight we can barely glimpse at if at all. It's worth a read but be prepared for angst, tragedy, very flawed romance, politics and lots of revenge. If you don't enjoy being sucker punched by major plot points then avoid this novel. <<less

I read the raws of this which were super good! The beginning few chapters are actually pretty interesting just not at interesting as everything after it. From then on, the story picks up and things start happening very quickly. The novel had some slow chapters, of course, but this was one of the best C-novels I've ever read. Totally recommend! I'm glad this is getting translated, can't wait to read this again.

15 chapters in and I still don't really know anything about the characters or what is going on. The MC hasn't gotten the body's memories, so she is just playing along and I am doing the same while reading.

She seems to have a bad reputation, however, aside from her fiancee and the girls that want her fiancee, most people don't seem to have a problem with her. So not sure how bad her reputation really is.

I am not really invested enough to wait for updates and keep reading.

The translation is... more>> quite good and well edited for the most part. <<less
