I recommend this novel if :

-You don't mind lack of action

-You're looking for something easy to read without a lot of tension or drama

... more>> -You Like isekai and don't mind clichês

- You like when all goes well for everybody as a cleansing read

I don't recommend if :

-You expect a lot of complicated plots

-You don't like slow pacing

-If you need a main plot well defined to keep your interest on the novel

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a nice and cute history made for people feel good with someone being happy and improving.I really like so far, but the only point I have to make, is that, the main character was wrintten without a lot of emotions, sometime in drama or happy parts, he looks all the same, and this isn't a trace of his personality, as he was suppose to be this nice guy. That bothered me a little, but overall I like him. On the manga, he was better portraited. <<less

This is a warm, slice-of-life candyland where the protagonist slowly learns what it feels like to belong while they immerse themselves in crafting, shopkeeping, and (once in a blue moon) adventuring with their adorable legion of slimes. Escape from your stress knowing that here there is no true adversity, the plot is secondary, and the ending doesn't matter.

If you like this, then support the author by buying the manga or official published novels (still in progress on j-novel and trailing far behind the reboot) which are also excellent.

Sort of mediocre. Maybe I would've liked it more if I hadn't read the original, but the reboot is much more generic and watered down. Stopped reading after I realized I was just skimming chapters.

i loved the serie to bits before the reboot, but the reboot expand the period of time that was a timelapse before and in that expansion, the author lost the logic of his slime evolutions

before, all the slime evolution was explained by the substance or magic they like to eat, it was fine and logical

but in the reboot, he evolve "string" and "net" slimes, that likes to eat stuff in the SHAPE of strings and nets... wtf kind of logic is that? it's so dumb it took me straight out... more>> of my suspension of disbelief

really good serie otherwise <<less

I don't know why it gets such a low rating. It does have the slice of life tag and that's mainly what it is. There really isn't any conflict and the main character is just trying to lie a peaceful second life and explore his interests in slimes. Good world-building and power-system, really reminds me that you can only write stories like this in web-novel form.

What do you get when you combine an MC who accomplishes everything on his first try with a slow life story minus the romance or comedy? An irritatingly average tale. Somehow it's not bad enough to drop, but it's not good enough to keep me interested. It's got a decent opening but I struggle to really think of a point where the MC was ever in danger of a minor failure.

The novel was quite interesting at the beginning. However, after around 50 chaps, the author focused too much on his businesses and it became quite boring for me. I tried to read to find any intersting stuffs about his new abilities and adventures, but they were all like businesses, meetings with business people, simple quests and slime x 10. Yeah, the author surely really likes slimes as well, maybe slimes would be the only type of monster he tames. If you like reading novel with businesses and slow developments, this... more>> is the one for you. <<less

It started off interesting, but about half way through, somewhere around chapter 50-60 it gets very boring and gets worse from there.

Im all for world building, especially detailed world building, but this story is just excessive. You get overly detailed descriptions for everything and it seems like the plot has barely went anywhere over the last 3 volumes.

You get the day by day minute by minute play by play on everything, for no reason in most cases since it doesnt add to the story.

Volume 1-2 was alright. I'd have given it a solid three. It was a little slow but it remained relaxing and the introduction to the world as well as the anticipation of what seemed to be coming kept you going.

Volume 3 on the other hand was at best a 2-star. It was just so unbelievably boring. Not only was it too meandery and purposeless, it bordered on the self-righteous and philosophical. It's as if the author just wanted to prolong the novel needlessly.

Volume 1-2 was an okay read but I... more>> really don't recommend volume 3. Save yourself the headache. <<less

I already read original version and I like it. But what happened in reboot? There is a lot of unnecessary chapter and the story won't progress even an inch I don't see any character development or I don't have an idea why most of the chapters coming out are just cooking manuals. I can say the starting point is good and the story progress nicely midway but it becoming downhill since the story stray from original plot and becoming more boring. Like I say too much unnecessary chapters. TODO: Display... more>> injected HTML for DataShield <<less

alright let me get straight to the point its practically a slice of life (ya bummer if you like action) but then the catch is the thing that brings the story forward is the research of the slimes that keep readers intrigue as well as the shenanigans the MC will do as he explores the world and creating new inventions. Overall a solid read if you are tired of constant seeking of power novels though I admit it lacks a sense of direction but its overall character development of the... more>> MC and the people covers its major flaws <<less

I started reading this series because of the manga but I have read the first couple of chapters and its okay but the problem I have with the series is literally how slow pace it is and honestly doesn't feel like anything ever really happens.

If you like slice of life then you might enjoy this series but if you're expecting actual proper plot then there is a lot to desire.

This is slow paced, with detailed information in parts, and not a whole lot of character depth. That said there is a variety of characters with enough distinction you can remember who is who. There isn't much conflict or drama and everything is mostly smooth sailing for the protagonist, but the backstory gives reason for this. That is, having cheats that are not overly exaggerated or immediately striking, whilst having the support of the gods and a very kind and highly influential duke family. Ryouma actually develops in the story,... more>> as he does need to study and practice to build up his strength, though he does have starting advantages. His character also gets some interesting development as he interacts with others and grows up from childhood a second time. It is overall enjoyable and fast paced enough that I don't feel like skipping ahead.

As for the differences between original and reboot, so far it is only the change of one character really. The monster tamer guild head in the mining town Ryouma settles in isn't a jealous, spiteful, and proud antagonist, just someone without enough power to promote a slime tamer because of the general perception of slimes being weak and useless. <<less

I love the story. Its original and never boring, but I'm a little irritated that some chapters aren't available. Take chapters 157 and 159 for example. You cant understand chapter 158 without chapter 157. At least not easy. There are more examples. If those chapters would work, it would be a 5 stars. Absolutely and without doubt, but because there are some chapters that doesnt work, I cant give it more than 4.

Made a an account just for this review. So here's my first ever review:

Firstly at a glance it's a highly laid back slice of life which it has a great job of doing in making that type of atmosphere. But later on you'll start to get bored fast because of damned slow story pacing of the Author.... more>>

It mentioned that Ryouma and Elia promised that they'll meet each other atleast once every 3 years. But in reality it will actually take 3 years or more to go to that point in the story. Here's three reasons why why, 1.) Author writes 1-3 chapter per MONTH 2.) Current chapters only talks about miscellaneous stuff without actually advancing the story, it legit wasted a months chapter just talking about a type of slime and how special it is. 3.) Lastly the timeline is so slow, I think only months passed by or a year only, this is mind you been going on since 2015. So in 6 years we've only seen atleast only a years worth of story. Still better than Detective Conan but come on...

So in my opinion the story timeline is too slow. It really needs a Time skip forward in order to progress. The author already did it in the beginning with a 2 year+ Time skip and even more timeskips so I can't see why he can't just do that. <<less

Look, I read this when it wasn't even the reboot, that I would happily give 4 stars, this however.... ugh

Right so why am I rating this lower? In exchange for more details... the author goes at a far slower pace, and with the translations being in parts, it's really a big turn-off to read. Each chapter feels like it doesn't do much of any note, and whilst I know this is a slice-of-life, but when it feels like your typical shounen anime that 5 minutes is in reality 20 chapters... more>> of nothing.... again this is mostly because of it being in parts.

To reiterate, I liked the previous version because it's faster-paced. In the 170 some posted chapters of the older, it felt like I'm making more progress with the story, but instead we have literally 50 parts dedicated for one scene, I honestly don't think I'm exaggerating. But yeah, this novel, hella slow, you will most likely skim read, and honestly past the first 100, all interest in the novel dropped. I tried to read this on multiple occasions, and I want to give it a fair shot, but it just... this isn't a slice-of-life, this is a chunk of life
Spoiler

(one year in very vivid detail, whilst he was in the world for some time, when the MC is found by the nobles, suddenly, let's be told 200 chapters worth of someone's life (times 3 because parts))

[collapse]

Again I really want to give this a chance, but.... why should I? I am only interested in the scenes of the FL coming back, and it's just.... haaa, I would rather spend my time reading something else. The major issue with the previous version was that they provided too little info at times, they could have easily fixed that by instead of doing one big timeskip, that they do multiple small ones, and here on the reboot, there's no timeskip and way~ too much. Idk, maybe it's just me, but this is too much a slowburn, and it's been fattened up with too much information that could be cut up in smaller chunks. Only the FL scenes are of any interest to me, and those are too few and far inbetween <<less

It's an okay story. The MC is a 42+ y.o. on the inside who's been through tough times most of his life, and he more or less acts this way.

He's not your usual brain-dead MC, nor is he the masochistic MC you can find just about in any similar story, though he acts in a mature and respectful way. He will kill and maim if others go too far though.

That's a plus.

... more>> The characters (some of them, the rest are forgettable fodder) are also nice, though nothing beyond nice.

There's also no romance. I find it disgusting to see a 40+ year old man hook up with girls half his age in other similar stories, so this one was a relief in this sense.

The rest of the story is... Not boring, just very tame and bland. Everybody is either unbelievably nice or just comically mean, the characters are flat, the entire Japanese things are best things spiel runs deep, the world building is so cliche the author never bothers to even explain things properly and so on and so forth.

If you wanna kill time, it's a fun book to read, if you want a story to make you feel involved emotionally in? A bad choice. <<less

In my opinion the ONLY reason this story is even getting 3 stars from me is because in all fairness the first volume is done really well (especially the first half of it). The second volume was alright as well so I don't really have any complaints.

Now, for the third chapter. It starts off....o.k, but it just keeps going downhill.

-Character growth is non existent. To be fair there has be almost nothing in the development of ANY character (except forgettable background characters) since the first half of Volume 1.

-Except for... more>> a handful of characters, you could take any character in this story and replace him with any other character and it would make almost no different.

-Problems are solved with zero difficulty.

-Entire chapters, arcs even, are spent on tasks that have NO impact on the story. And yes, I know it's slice of life, but there still has to be a goal or objective. To be fair, there does seem to be a goal but it's so buried that the author has to remind you every 10-20 chapters that it still exists.

Overall it's still readable. But, to be honest the only reason I am still reading it is because I hope the author gets back on track once the goal is completed. I've definitely read worse so I wont say it deserves 1 star but to be honest 3 stars is a little generous. <<less

Ah it has more than the original but I wanna say that I hate how they changed the encounter at the mine subjugation in the beginning. It was much better in the original. This one feels more like a throwaway encounter instead of the public and character driven fight that it was supposed to be

I enjoyed this.

However, a literary pet peeve of mine is when the author introduces something that should have some sort of repercussions or foreshadowing and nada. Particularly when it could be interesting.

Not a spoiler because nothing happened after many chapters:

Spoiler

At around chapter 200 it's revealed that our god is playing this world like a psychotic monster. Ryoma (and many, many others) had criminal and evil traits absolutely packed into his soul. He was placed in an abusive home that also strenuously trained him in how to fight. He's crazy muscular without working out for decades. Several stressors and triggers god put in front of him:

  • Dad dying in debt
  • He's so scary looking no one wants to even interact with him
  • Fired from the one good job after disarming a robber and getting arrested
  • Working at a black black company, like physically and emotionally abusive
  • Mom dying while he's working 20 hrs a day and he's so burnt out he can't even cry

And god's waiting for him to crack and let loose those urges and go on a rampage. Then Ryoma dies and this psycho god puts him on the shortlist to another world. A world where the gods will bestow upon him whatever power he chooses.

And little comes of it. He loses his temper a bit at the beginning (blamed on age regression) and killed some assassins. Maybe if you squint your eyes, he deeply understands criminals and can think ahead of them. Could be he built up his willpower back on earth and can control himself well now.

The biggest thing is after 100 chapters, it doesn't seem like the gods of the new world are even upset. Earth god handed them a grenade, knowing they would make it into a nuke.

Ryoma struggling against overwhelming power and soul-deep criminal urges is so compelling to me!

Sigh

[collapse]

And this is a reboot! Why is that there? I can only camp and hope some relevance appears after another few hundred chapters <<less
