There is a very strange restaurant in the City of Sin.

Elves and dwarves must share a table, orcs are strangely well behaved, dragons are only welcomed on the small square in front of the restaurant, and the demons must bring their own stool.

This strange restaurant with their strange rules continuous to attract a long line of customers.

“This place serves the best food! The chef of this restaurant is a genius!” Some of the guests in the restaurant left glowing reviews. But these guests have a word of warning for other guests, “No matter what you do, never, never attempt to kidnap the boss or try to ‘eat and run’. You will die.”

A cute little girl stood near the door, and demanded in her tiny voice, “You have eaten the food, now pay up, or I will beat you to death.” The five-meter tall dragon suddenly felt a chill running up its spine.

It's an ok novel, if you've read one cooking novel then you've read them all usually since they have a system 90% of the time.

Not much has been shown even though we are 96 chapters in since the pacing is really slow, even for a Chinese novel. Now I could understand if you want to fill out the world and such hence the pace would be slow yet this is filled with unnecessary words to fill the chapter.

Now that a few chapters have piled up, I'm confident in giving this an accurate review.

This novel is fluff. Pure fluff. For all ye who wish to be good father's one day, this story will feed that urge. The daughter is quite cute, but I can see why this story would be rated so poorly.

The first reason being the premise. The reason for his transmigration is quite weak, and the MC just accepts that he has a cute daughter now rather easily. The reason for his 'system' coming into existence... more>> is pretty lame as well, but it could just pass for a dull joke.

The second is the system itself. Yes, we have stories where the MC is given everything at the beginning, and thats what seems to be the case here. So long as the MC has the gold, he can buy anything and I mean anything. Apparently, you can buy instant knowledge for trivial things like hair tying as well.

The third is probably what is the deal breaker for a lot of people. The food. I would imagine that most people would click on this story looking for some delicious food p*rn, but the descriptions are merely average while the pace of new dishes comes out real slowly. It is only at chapter 50 that the second dish comes out. Now don't get me wrong, the pacing is fine as is for a slice of life story, but I don't think most readers came here for a slice of life story.

Despite all that, the MC does have more of a personality compared to normal MC's and his interactions with his daughter and system are enjoyable to read about. Although there are many things that I wish to be improved, that won't stop me from following this story in the near future. <<less

The daughter is too meddlesome & the author thinks that's cuteness.

The system is way too dumb, only a few authors are able to get a 'smart & interactive' system thing right.. Obviously this author isn't one them for example

Spoiler

The system gets easily manipulated & tricked several times like a new born baby.. Anything he wants, d MC just use the magic word ' I won't cook if U don't do it & the system would just obliged him.

Honestly, it’s not a bad read.

But the author dwells on things too much rather than letting the scene set itself.

Everytime, the author writes a sweet moment, he still has to write an exposition to indicate that it was a sweet moment. This is also the case for supposedly funny/sad/etc scenes. The expositions ruin the experience.

Read when you’re bored or when you have nothing else to read I guess.

i really want to enjoy this novel but I have to keep a f*cking notepad documenting who anyone is becuase the Translator has changed 2-3 times in under 200 chapters

maybe not the translator, maybe something else but the Names of People and Food have changed 2-3 times in under 200 chapters

edit : so whatever translator that took over in the 190s seems to have just given up on nameing some characters, I mean their names are like Yngwie and Gjergj, I mean even if thats how they are translated... more>> to english couldn't they have at least taken some cues from other translaters and make it flow better? it feels like your reading a word from a 4 year old thats guessing words based on the 12 letters they know

another edit : so all these 5 star reviews that seem to love the daughter forgot to mention that she likes torturing animals and the MC lets her because she acts "pitiful" when she's not allowed to torture animals

the last edit probably : so I kept reading about how slow everything was and decided to read the last chapter then the second to last chapter just to see and wow

spoilers about what I "grasped" in the final 2 chapters

Cultivation

Spoiler

There are 12 Realms, 1-10 Demi God and God, its took the entire novel, 2489 chapters to get 12 realms

[collapse]

the "Feast" the daughter wants

Spoiler

Manchu Han Imperial Feast is unlocked when he finishes cultivation, so 2489 chapters of the daughter begging for this

[collapse]

the "World" and "Transmigration"

Spoiler

so MC didn't transmigrate or something? China took over the universe in 50 000 years and the MC became god because he is chinese, secret to godhood is a chinese song

Why are people giving this 1 star?! I mean, I understand that MC leveling up is slow and sometimes you'll think he's useless but it's a good read. The food is deliciously describe, we alao have a very cute daughter, and awesome staff. And it gets much better after he meets his wife.

good story.. interesting plot... side characters actually hv personality for once... amy and irina are the best part of this novel...i would say waaaayyy better than GoAW since the MC isnt dead inside like that guy and actually has a personality and motivation for doing work... way better read than GoAW...i actually went to read GoAW after this and couldnt even read 20 chaps before dropping coz of bland MC..

Edit- finished it finally, cant believe it has been 3 years since then.. the ending was a bit rushed but I... more>> guess it okey since it went on for long enough anyway.. It was a good novel for me.. Fluffy and cute and no tragedies.. love something light like this sometimes ^_^ <<less

It's really great at first, he suddenly embarked in a path to become a father and a chef; adjusting to becoming a chef, a knight, a business owner, an avatar (😅) while challenging not to be dead. The characters interactions with each other are more focused at first. 😂A really slow paced story too but it was all worth it (at firts) but then it started becoming ridiculous, there are many women that started popping up like mushrooms besides the MC that always have some type of feelings towards him... more>> but more on the "love" side. Those women are annoying.

Spoiler

That one waitress of his that is becoming bold and bold to even had the audacity to suggest someone to sleep in his house when he already said that he doesn't want anyone to be in same house as him and his daughter then embarrassedly ask for his permission to see the upstairs because that someone already went up.

[collapse]

Spoiler

That woman who wears a veil first but the mark on her face faded keeps on annoying him and sticking to him like leeches and he doesn't even clear anything to them.

[collapse]

Spoiler

That teacher that said she has her dreams first but don't mind falling for him even if she knows that he has a wife. (What's wrong with the women here? It's like highclass sl*ts and lowkey white lotuses and what's wrong with the MC not bothering to clear those misunderstanding about his wife and letting them think she ran away with some dude.

[collapse]

Spoiler

That brat princess that forces her culture to other people when she's not even in her own country. Did I already say she's a brat?

[collapse]

Spoiler

For the MC supposedly inheriting the memories and feelings of the original father he is becoming more and more spineless. He doesn't seem to be a knight at all. Just like a person who can weild a sword and kill people.

There are also not much character build up so I'm still thinking if I will continue to read this while skipping chapters or to drop this. <<less

This kind of slow paced novel, while it's enjoyable, nothing much has happened yet, so I will refrain from commenting too much..

its ongoing in china and only six months have passed in the story after 1700 chapters hence, it will take a long time for the novel to complete. Or there will be a sudden rush of pace and sudden ending. Lol.

Whatever it's gonna be, it will take a long time to be translated. And I am sure, that by then I would have forgotten the story or won't have... more>> any kind of interest in it.

Hence, I won't recommend this.. <<less

A slow paced novel that's filled with a lot of story. The surprising thing is that despite the slow pace it doesn't feel like anything is dragged out for no reason, most scenes are over after a few chapters. All the characters have extensive backgrounds that are explored in full, and most of it is interesting. While cooking is definitely a major part of the novel, it also isn't very well thought out. Literally all the things the MC creates are acquired through an overnight course following a set procedure... more>> so it's a very casual process. He also never creates anything on his own which is disappointing to say the least. The plot is barely coming along, the story so far has only reached somewhere around the six month line from when he first arrived. The most impressive thing about the whole story is how characters act. There hasn't been any s*upid moments so far, and people don't act like they left their brains at home.

Highly recommend if you like background and characters, otherwise it might feel a little slow. <<less

If you are expecting good food novel go check food supplier and gourmet in another world... if you are expecting nice fantasy story then you should read this novel... the writer is very bad in describing tasty food but succeeded in writing a good story make you want to know what happen next... it's rare to find chinese novels where the levels powers aren't exaggerated and where the protogonists and his enemys are constantly upgrading (dbz plot).. the way the writer treated this novel in power balance is much better... more>> than others keeping it bit real... the problem with the strory is it has been stretched causing bit lack of content. and undecided writer about harem/one wife.. <<less

I really like the pace and the short chaptee, the only thing that I don't like is the inconsistency of the author for example :

The half-human and demon charactee suddenly change into half-human and orc for the sake of plot

The genius tailor suddenly working for restaurant without explanation

And the age of character, the author just casually type the number without checking

Smh

But I really do enjoy it

A perfect blend of slice of life, culinary novel, and cultivation/action. Really rare to find a novel that manages to do all three well. Amy is a great character!!

Only complaint I can come up with is that the "system" seems to be a little too greedy to be likable or funny.

It's.. WAY too generic, you can see things happen from a mile away.

The novel overall isn't too bad, the slice of life bits are cute and funny even if they are extremely slow paced but as soon as the real "plot" gets introduced I rapidly find myself bored of the whole thing.

It's a pretty bad written and REALLY slow paced drama about him getting togheter with his wife again involving most of the common tropes and overused dynamics ever and that's what breaks the novel imho.

I think the whole thing... more>> is unnecessary and would have liked more if the story had focused more in depth on him and his daughter, the restaurant and maybe even him dating a new girl instead on going back and forth between being a chill SoL and a bad drama about a wife nobody cares about. (Not even him, he doesn't remember her) <<less

a good story with good translation to pass the time. Pacing of the story is kinda slow, but I prefer that rather than MC's problem getting dealt with when he was supposed to be a cripple who can't let others know his identity while protecting his 4 y/o kid. I also like how the story doesn't only focuses on MC's development but also on the people around him. So far a good read for me.

It is acceptable. But as some people have pointed out this is a very slow paced novel. Typically when I have time I'll binge read all day, but I was sick of this by chapter 70. Not because the writing itself is awful, the characters are unbearable, or anything like that...

Imagine a slice of life story like Chii's Sweet Home, Yotsubato, or some thing like that. Now tar it with awkward jokes. Take the cute character and make her a little bit malicious and a little bit spoiled (just enough to make you raise an eyebrow). And the protagonist is just so 'meh.' Neither his background on Earth as a trust fund as*hole food critic nor his otherworld background as a crippled legendary warrior matter as of chapter 105. And he is not even a real chef. The cooking is completely behind the scenes to the point that it is easier to look at Mike the MC as a vending machine. Insert 600 coins get fried rice.

There is a random cooking system (which has more personality than most), but why does it want to make the main character into a God of Cookery? There is a whole town we've barely explored. There are characters that do little more than eat and leave, maybe dropping a few nice bits of world building exposition. There's magic, math, history, and ongoing battles, but we've yet to see how the affect the characters. There is a "isekai restaurant" vibe going on, but it is like a second rate version compared to the Japanese web/light novels.

Since the story fails at the slice-of-life idyllic pace, the reader can only look towards the tradition conflict-climax-resolution formula for entertainment. However, we're still at the exposition phase.

The story has built up spotty foundation, but what it does with that foundation is still up in the air. But honestly, I think it is leaning more towards a "flop."

Quite similar to godly stay home dad. Its an amazing slice of life novel and soo fluffy.

Not giving 5 stars because while reading this godly stay home dad comes into mind and I don't get the feel which got reading the other novel but don't get me wrong it's an amazing story.

Just the system isn't systematic and I just don't see any food p*rn. I just don't get the complete satisfaction while I read this

A nice and fluffy storyline I really like the pacing of the story.

And a major plus point for this novel is that there is no harem.

Read this, not Gourmet Food Supplier.

Let's get the negatives out of the way: Slow burn, jumping plotlines, and you can probably read every other chapter and still get the plot.

Classic Face-slapping protagonist, but now with a cute daughter he has to take care of. This immediately changes the character dynamic and enriches the inherent interactions. There are some flashes of Uchi Musume here and there, but more often than not it's closer to Heavenly Star with more surface level relations, and cuter funny moments.

But that's standard. We all know that... more>> this is what a Chinese Webnovel is about.

It's the Banter and the Worldbuilding that grabs you and keeps you there. Ever wanted to read a story that's basically a Snark-a-thon and where the High-And-Mighty MC gets to head-desk thanks to an uncooperative System? Ever want to see a snarky MC also eat sh*t from his family and the System or even general circumstance? Ever want to see face-slapping done by itty-bitty children? All set in a fantasy world with intrigue and an MC that basically has Amnesia but has to pretend he know's what's going on?

If you said Yes to all of those questions, Bad news - this story gets 80% of the way there but then fails to deliver on the whole package. But if you're desperate for this kind of story, or are ok with not having the ideal exemplar of such ideas, this is a VERY fun story to follow. However, I suggest binging on this story, and not following chapter by chapter, as the chapters are extremely short and it has the traditional face-slapping novel problem of taking forever to "Savor" each scene.

Also, the RAW updates 2 chapters ata time, so really reading one chapter at a time is pretty excruciating.

This is closer to I'm Really a Superstar in tone, but sometimes you can sort of see glimpses of God of Music, if you get what I mean.

Also: Props to the translator Prosperous Food Translations - they actively are adding to the experience and are a GREAT resource for people not knowing the details of the recipes or Chinese food and culture. I highly recommend their translation, as their notes give so much more context for the non-Chinese. <<less
