Water Recovery System

Description

Every novel has a slag character, the one who decides to abandon the protagonist at his lowest, most helpless point, either because he can’t stand the poor guy’s circumstances or for other reasons. But after the protagonist wins his way in life again, they’re the ones who beg with broken sobs to be taken back.

Still, water once spilled can’t be recovered again.

Yet the unlucky Shen Jiayan has been bound to a Water Recovery* System to do just that.

*water recovery – comes from an idiom that means “spilled water can’t be recovered” (English equivalent: there’s no use crying over spilt milk).

I hate xianxia with exceptions, so when the xianxia arc showed up that killed a lot of my love for this. The xianxia arc is the 4th out of 7. I read it to the end of that one out of a sense of obligation and that's as far as I go. As to the preceeding arcs:

Business Arc - the og was a spoiled young master who fell in love and ran off with a man. But couldn't handle the rough life and ran back home. I liked this... more>> one, especially since the MC got dropped when the og had already abandoned the ml. 4/5

Actor Arc - og was a terrible actor who rode the coattails of the ML only to cheat on him. ML goes back in time and gets revenge. What I liked about this one was that the og was undeniably the bad guy in this situation. I liked how the MC twisted things. It was, however, predictable and not very imaginative. 3/5

Zombie Arc - og was a spoiled young master who caused trouble for everyone and eventually went nuts. The og in this one was very much wronged. Which made things interesting as far as how you quickly come to forget everything the og characters did once you get to know them. Zombie arcs are common in qt's but I don't usually hate them. This one had some fun little quirks, but I couldn't help but think they didn't use the unique qualities to the best of their ability. What takes this from 3-4 stars is actually the 2ml. I love the 2ML in a way where I think he shines best in the role he's given. 4/5 stars. The thing I appreciate most in this is that I adore it when a ML is soft for the MC. I love when they pamper and spoil them. I love when they are generous with their affections. Where the whole world could collapse as long as they have their lover. That might be my favorite type of ml, and this is the style of the ML in this novel. It's not enough to save it. But it's enough that I can recommend it. <<less

so this is one of the cute bl novel ever, the MC didnt easily fell in love and instead did his work properly. Every world is different, some are sweet and fluffy and some are hewrt wrenching. I was one of the reader who immediately read the translated chapters and the one who commented (where the chapter 1 since the cintent doesnt show, that happened yesterday lol) I wouldve vote for 5 stars but the only downfall is ... more>>
Spoiler

the ending is kind of abrupt and short, like it ended with 1 chapter only, its like an open ending but dont let that spoil your decision on reading because this one is definitely good

I am grateful to the translator too for posting the 1st arc in the 1 day of the start of translation. Thank you, and Ill still read the translated one since I only relied on mtl <<less

I was a bit apprehensive about reading this novel because when I read the summary, I felt like the white-washing process will be full of angst and dog-blood misunderstandings. But unexpectedly, although there are a few misunderstandings and a teeny-weeny bit of angst, all in all, it has more fluff so I am completely satisfied. I also like how there's interview sections with the original owners of the bodies, as well as clear transaction between the two. I appreciate how the system doesn't fight for screentime like in other QT... more>> novels, and how the MLs aren't completely unreasonable. All in all, I'm enjoying this novel so far and would like to look forward to more of it. Many thanks to the translators who picked up this project. I'm supporting too many novels now so I can't buy you coffees but i'll definitely get you one when I have the chance! Jiayou! Xoxo <<less

I hated it, I am I tears right now! The only time I am ok with my tears is when I am emotionally unstable (menstrual cycle) so how dare this author make me cry because of their book! If you are looking for smut, this is not for you (if you read on you will see why), if you at looking for another cliche with fluff than this is not for you. Even though short this book is definitely a re-read.

Alright so... There are 6 arcs (if I didn't miss anything) ; some of them are sad, most of them have fluff moments. Which is... fine I suppose, I kinda expected super angsty misunderstandings so it was interesting to read fluff when I was ready for angst.

I like the first arc the best, tbh it's always the first arc that I feel most connected with in world hopping novels so it's not that surprising. Also because of the...

Spoiler

... noble sacrifice of MC.

I would recommend this one.

Hey, this actually isn't bad! A QT that doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out is a rare breed, so I felt that I ought to leave a review, even if I'm not super far into it.

So far, the premise is fairly unique for QTs, even as the writing is very... light and straightforward. Instead of the usual face-slapping, the MC is tasked with fulfilling the wishes of the original hosts, who tend not to be... great people. In fact, in other stories, they'd probably be the antagonists... more>> you're supposed to face-slap, but here they're the people that the MC is (ostensibly) supposed to help. Very interesting!

The MC also isn't smart, or an actor, or, uh, anything really. He tries only the barest minimum in the arcs to be like the original (and there doesn't seem to be any penalties for OOCing or anything, which is a nice change), and he kind of stumbles into task completion on accident, usually, just by being his usual sweet, hardworking self. The ML (s) are fairly good guys in general too, and they aren't overly possessive or overbearing, which is a plus. But for those looking for romance... while the MC is usually tasked with romantic missions, the MC himself basically sees the worlds as only tasks to complete, so while there's some sweet moments, the MC never seems to be entirely too down when the world ends. In other stories, this might read as cold-hearted, but with the MC's simple and naive personality, it feels right somehow, and I don't really have any complaints there.

Overall, while there's not anything super outstanding about this QT other than its premise, there's absolutely nothing bad about it either. The arcs might be short and the endings predictable, but that's kind of the charm of it. It's a simple, light read for those who like QTs, and sometimes that's enough.

This also seems like a sophomore effort for the author (it's her second published novel on Jinjiang), so I'd be curious about some of her later work, because from what I can see from skimming the fourth arc, her writing style isn't bad. It's not revolutionary, but it's simple and clear, without a lot of weird word choices and typos that plague a lot of other QTs. <<less

I'm guessing that either the author quit part way or something else happened to make them cut short the novel because the ending is very abrupt. The arcs are varying lengths but lean towards being short so our understanding of the MC and ML is never more than superficial. There is some fluff and cute moments and some mild angst (after reading scum gong my definition of true angst might have leveled up because none of the stories in this novel even made me teary eyed.) I might revisit once... more>> the translation is much further along because there was some confusion thanks to MTL but for now it's a 3. <<less

Author read "Quick transmigration" and thought it meant a 10 minute arc lmao

Characters are okay, plot is okay, but theres not really any romance (?) MC shows up to do his thing and then all of a sudden the MLs decide they like him, usually because he gazed at them with friendly eyes or sent a cute smile their way. And then the rest of it is just MC trying to fulfill the 2nd condition of OG body's wishes.

It goes by very fast. I wasnt kidding when I made the... more>> 10 minute joke, ive literally started and finished arcs in-between my classes.

Bec the arcs arent very long (theyre practically teasers) theres not very much you can hate about it. Typically Novels will start falling off or showing plotholes/bad character/plot design by the 30th chapter, but these arcs barely even reach the 15th, so you literally dont even have enough content to be able to find something bad (or good!) with it.

Its kind of a waste tbh, I didnt get any enjoyment out of any of the arcs, its more a quick timewaster when you have 10-30 mins to spare than an actual story/stories.

Read this when waiting for class, the bus, or an appointment <<less

I liked the first three arcs. I liked most of the characters, the setting, etc. As another said, I recommend the first three arcs. I *only* recommend these first few arcs.

As of now, I have finished the fourth arc and am currently in the middle of the fifth arc. By this point, it's like all the extras and mobs have turned children who haven't learned the concept of empathy and are so maddeningly s*upid that their actions just dont make sense. To me, it seems more like theyre programmed to... more>> do what they're doing so that the author has an easier time writing the plot out.

The cannon fodders and villains are so two dimensional that I feel like getting mad at the author rather than the character. And as for the MC and ml? I can barely feel their romantic development (in 4th arc and 5th arc). I breezed through the fourth arc yawning because it felt like all they did was write the ML "serious" in one sentence and "doting" on the next.

Usually I wouldnt even mind 2D characters in a face slapping novel because they are usually common, but atleast those said "2D characters" had a reasonable explanation for why they did what they did instead of a "just because"

It had far changed from the novel which I used to look forward to reading because of it's straightforward writing and relatable protagonist. Now I just brood over each chapter wondering what kind of s*upid sh*t they'll come up with next.

I might be exaggerating it a bit because Im mostly ranting on this review about my disappointment towards this novel.

Anyways, I hope all of you have a good day. <<less

light and straightforward writing, as another reviewer put it. but also somehow this very simple novel is making me cry so wretchedly every other arc. the only way I can frame it is that the author doesnt mince words and is very good at pulling at your heartstrings directly. "water recovery system" what water recovery... the only water here is my tears...

overall, an enjoyable, if short, read that cuts to the point and also cuts your heart. ended up not finishing it because the annoyance of MTL was impeding my... more>> reading experience and ultimately deciding I needed to go study <<less

I think this novel is pretty good, , I liked the stories for the arcs, but when it came to the ending.. Its very abrupt, , like the chapter before the end didnt even hint that it was going to end and the next moment the last chapter hits you with a bam, , the story doesnt flow at that part, like, , its really way too sudden and awkward tbh. I think its still pretty good though so do check it out!

Each arc was simple and short. So the developments are fast. The real identities/world behind them is also only 1 chapter - the extra at the end.

It passed through a lot of TL hands. I'm glad it got completed in the end :>

    1. What's good about this is that, compared to other QTs, MC has a direction to go upward (except the last modern arc. Easy To Hard. And difficulty went normal to hard. Maybe last arc was also a form of rest. Sad that there wasn't any closing to get the real them meet face to face and be together). MC fulfills the wishes of departed souls, gets a piece of their characteristic of choice, and use that as golden finger. That they aren't mortals in an accident or from interstellar. It was an abrupt identity reveal though. They didn't have such characteristics (Maybe MC in arc 4 hmm). ML also falls fast each time.
    2. The creativity of some of the details of the arcs. Like: Arcs: 4 (shu son MC and monk ML with transmigrate antagonist that has spring water dimension), 5 (interstellar survival show with client that was autistic), 6 (cultivation where there was a transmigrator in that world-book that messed up plots and MC became...), and 7 (university students and voice actors). We didn't get ABO and ger arc and more fantasy elements. What's somewhat sad is the fast development and some unsatisfactory endparts.
    3. The endings varied. We've got 3 BE and 4 HE haha
    4. Arc 7 surprised me in that detail that MC was reluctant yet ready to let 'ml' go and be with another person. We've also got Arc 6 where MC lost himself because of schemes & devil cultivation
The arcs are:
Spoiler

1 (Modern & Wealth & Mafia), 2 (Entertainment), 3 (Zombie), 4 (Ancient Times. This is where he is tightly connected w/ ML that'll span till the future), 5 (Interstellar & Survival Show), 6 (Cultivation), 7 (University & Voice Actors) + 1 extra (real identities from the pov of a diff character/bystander)

[collapse]

I am questioning sometimes how mc's acting was considered smooth. He OOCs (there weren't even any OOC alerts). He even told ML in Arc 7 his identity and how he & ML shared lifetimes. The system and our MC doesn't communicate much. MC still brings out his 'own charisma to his personna' that other people look at him more. He can't act like the original client. ML and other charas asisst him instead.

It's an okay novel to pass the time with, especially if you're looking for QTs. :D Not a high personal rating, but I was entertained nonetheless. Alsmost didn't read because of the reviews. I'm glad I read :)

I absolutely love this novel. The arcs are interesting, even if the wrapper story is a bit bare and quickly stitched together in the last extra.

I like how unpredictable the stories were - they didn't all follow the same formula. The MC isn't chasing love until the last half, the face slapping was only in cases where the original were really wronged. The stories didn't all have sugary happy endings.

In many of the stories, there's a turning point, or moment of uncertainty which ruins a person's life. It's wonderful to... more>> see tragic endings averted, though it's a bit sad that the whole person needs to be switched out for the story to change. I feel like that seems to suggest that some situations need an outsider to understand and correct the situation, which is sort of sad for the original characters.

Finally, the translations were lovely. Well annotated and very readable. <<less

It's an alright read. I'd recommend this as a beginner title for readers who want to try QT.

The arcs are very short and lack details. Sometimes it feels like you just whizzed past it. Some of the arcs are pretty sad but there are fluffy arcs too near the end.

As for ending, I can only say it was abrupt lol. I think this would have worked better as a prologue or have expanded a little more? I like the concept of the cause of MC and ML's world hopping but... more>> it's missing something y'know? XD <<less

As stated from previous comment the ending is abrupt. It feels, 1 to 2 arcs are removed for the ending and a 1 page extra is instead replaced. Despite that, the first 3 arcs are really good ? And I'm fan of world hopping novels since the arcs are usually 10 to 30 chapters only hence there is not much silliness and no prolonged dog blood drama.

I still recommended the first few arcs

I have mixed feeling regarding this novel.

Some arcs are nice, some arcs feel too forced. As for the ending, it's a heartwarming one but I wish we got to see more of the MC and ML

Anyway, it's a quick transmigration read with face slapping revenge and stuff

it is difficult to describe what this novel is. Although it is not bad, I am reluctant to say it is not good either. I have mixed feelings about my read but not in a bad way.

for future readers, take this work with a grain of salt and consume it with a light heart rid of expectation.

WRS is an episodic QT novel lacking an underlying plot and depth, for that matter, so it relies instead on the story behind each soul our MC helps and the environment he is in.... more>> Despite the romantic subplot coming to life as full on romance between our two leads every arc, I would say this novel is not their tale. WRS is a much less serious natsume yuujinchou type and the story of our MC and ML is merely a bonus and resolved within one chapter at the end only to answer all our questions.

in my sincerest opinion, the author tried their hardest to keep things fresh and mysterious to an extent. In fact, I appreciate these small things.

Spoiler

we have a monk ML who was allowed to love instead of having to go against the world, an MC who forgets our ML and everything else in the world, a tragic second ML who does not make things difficult and had instead helped and loved our MC till the very end, MC not being afraid to choose different difficulties for each mission after taking on the emotions of his clients, and so much more.

[collapse]

i have no bad words for this except I would like to raise the issue of how an autistic character was handled. Although he was indeed pure and innocent, a lot of this is due to his autism and he is highly infantilized. I believe he could’ve been still pure and innocent but not babied and called cute for almost everything he does and every other behavior of his. The people who kept doing this during his moments of quite literally doing mundane things are just as bad as people who flip out and think he’s crazy once he is overwhelmed and breaks down due to sensory overload.

in any case, please do read this. Not because I think it’s especially interesting, but just because it is still an enjoyable read. Just do not expect the romance or focus on it. Our MC and ML are really a lot more like background characters who had to act out roles in the spotlight. <<less

The first couple of arcs were pretty good in terms of actually following the summary - MC leaving the worlds protagonist at their lowest point, but after arc 2 or 3, it stopped being about that and more along the lines of MC’s bodies OG souls being completely misunderstood, and him being the one to clear the air.

For how short the novel is, and considering how it’s a QT (?) novel, you can expect quite a few plot holes in each arc. Each arcs ending is also pretty abrupt, with... more>> the extra an attempt to soothe everything over, but it doesn’t flow well in my opinion. I think if each arc had been longer, then it would have flowed better. But considering novel length and the amount of arc’s, it’s not as bad as it could have been. <<less
