It’s Actually Not Easy Wanting to be a Supporting Male Lead

Description

In this period where countless supporting lead actors always attempt to counterattack, turn over a new leaf or simply refuse to take up the role, his purpose of existing is to fill the role of a good supporting male lead and uphold his duty to the best of his ability. To add the needed lustre to storylines and this world. Only, it’s a pity that even those unafraid of god-like enemies will be afraid of pig-like teammates.

Bitterly, he realises that for some unfathomable reason, he is being bothered time and again by a bastard who refuses to follow the script…

In order to walk the path of a good supporting male lead, he engages in a battle of wits and courage with that person. Loving each other and killing each other, one ultimately cannot escape fate’s teasing– why is it so difficult wanting to be a responsible and diligent supporting male lead?! QAQ

It starts out so so good but then midway it turns tr*shy because of the ML being a complete uncaring selfish creep. Tonnes of dub con. The stories get better only when the MC is at the risk of losing his life due to the ML's fuvk ups. Yeah it's typical scum gong trope. Id rate this novel a 6/10. You'd have to have a huge amount of patience to not rage quit this novel midway.

Wish I could give 0 stars.

Everything about this novel is annoying. The MC is annoying, the ML is extremely annoying, the plot is annoying, basically it's tr*sh.

The plot on arc 1 was actually really good. Actually plotwise the arcs are... really good. But the romance is so..... oh my god it got on my nerves so much

... more>> This could have had so much potential. Maybe if the MC actually showed some emotions, maybe if the ML was actually considerate and respectful, and maybe if the romance actually made any sense.

The MC is basically emotionless. Don't like that. I am not here to read about a stone.

ML chases MC around and ruins his missions completely. He is extremely problematic and I hate him.

The ML is some kinda overpowered existence and just becomes obsessed with MC all of a sudden and I don't get it, like why???? It makes absolutely no sense.

And the MC obviously doesn't reciprocate his feelings and idc how many arcs this goes on cause I dropped it before any significant progress happened. So it's basically just ML blindly chasing MC around the worlds and not letting him properly do his job.

I am so disappointed cause I had high expectations for this. I actually loved the concept of this so much. If the romance was more engaging and tolerable it would have been such a nice read. But it's just irritating and frustrating. <<less

I'm not sure what the other reviews are reading as well. Like, the very first world (before the ML officially makes his debut in the epilogue of World 1) is very good. After that however, we go downhill and keep digging. ML is not only an insane, egotistic, domineering, possessive yandere, but one who has no issue blackmailing for s*x, threatening r*pe, and all sorts of horrific behavior.

Reminder, this is how he behaves to MC. The MC who's just been born, so we're talking "probably counts as underaged until... more>> several Arcs in."

ML is just absolute pure shit. I don't care if he "gets better", which I'm... guessing he does? That or MC just gives in to Stockholm syndrome. I sincerely recommend that you don't read past Arc 1. <<less

At first the story seems interesting, but as the worlds go by, we again have that exteriotype of a slightly weak "shou" and a strong, possessive "gong". They don't have a healthy relationship bordering on an abusive relationship which makes the story tiring, I ended up liking other characters more than MC and ML. If you like a mildly abusive relationship full of possessiveness and without the slightest regard for your partner's feelings this story may even interest you, now if you want a story where you have a healthy... more>> relationship where two people help each other and evolve together, run away from this novel. <<less

Updated review:

Very fluffy and cute story. ML is indeed selfish and unbearable in the beginning and the romance is quite one-sided for about half the story. However, in the second half, much of the questions readers have are revealed. For example, just why did ML fall for MC so easily? ML also becomes much more caring and takes MC's wishes into account. MC also feels strongly towards ML and their interactions are at times very sweet and cute. Arc 15 (I know, very long wait) has a bit of a... more>> counter-attack in which you see the power dynamic shift a bit to our MC. Especially in arc 16 (which is very tit-for-tat between MC and ML. Pretty funny). There isn't much in terms of intrigue but there are overarching little mysteries and problems they tackle.

With that said, there are many flaws in this story. Consent is of course an issue, and their relationship is not healthy most of the time. It is a light-hearted read if you're looking for a good time and don't care about plot or substantial character development. <<less

I have to admit that this novel kept me entertained to a certain extent, which is why I finished it.

However, I can't give it more than 2 stars, mainly because of MC and ML.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike MC, I just think that he is too naive and also has a low EQ, which could have led to a good character developement, but it did not. That's the only things that I have to say against him. Appart from that, he is pretty lovable.

However, ML is just too... more>> despicable. I can understand that he is not willing to have any romantic relationship with others when he likes MC. However, to always make it hard for MC and to always purposely disturb him in his work is just too petty. If it was only this then it would still be fine. But it is not. There's too much noncon. ML repeatedly r*pes MC, and in various ways !
Spoiler

he even laid his hands on him during the dog arc, like dude wtf

[collapse]

I should have known I was getting myself into something messy when I read the dog arc... but little did I know that the author did even worse with the whole bestiality thing during another arc ;-;

Spoiler

when ML r*ped MC in his beast form, while MC was a human

I'll never be able to forget this hell.

The novel did serve its purpose, as I simply was looking for something to kill boredom, but I didn't come out unscathed. <<less

I decided to write my small review (since I am on phone and read it long ago).

First of all, lots of reviewers seems to hate ML (?). I don’t hate him at all, simply cause there are much more hateful semes in other novels and those still get 4/5 star reviews.

Secondly, I actually enjoyed how their relationship progressed. Yes, ML was tr*sh and pitted MC a lot, but we should also understand that he thought he was deceived then he just wanted to ‘play’ what later caused him to fall... more>> in love, well usual plot to be honest. However, after certain arc accident he finally realized that what he did was wrong and tried his best to help MC and also let him grow by himself (tho considering certain halo on MC, it was hard xD).

Thirdly, by the end it became rushed to cover some things and arcs were getting slow or boring (like haunted house), but I still enjoyed this novel over all. Maybe only me, but it showed one of those love progression in quick transmigration plot where seme does not forget his love and just chases him again and again what even causes MC to change to BL worlds. Each world shows progress of how their love grows from not so healthy ML to more understanding or trying to be understanding ML, from MC who doesn’t understand so called ‘love’ into someone who can love.

And it makes sense, after all (major spoiler) :
Spoiler

They are both not human so all those standard reaction or relationships, can’t be really applied on them. I liked that MC didn’t become ‘human’ to the core, but still retained not so attached to other characters attitude.

[collapse]

In the end, I recommend to other people either read it till the end or not to read at all while leaving review. You can’t give score if you don’t know what happens in the other half of the novel, everything can give you 180 turn and you won’t notice it. Of course, it doesn’t apply to those who finished it, everyone has their own taste. I just felt bad for something I enjoyed to have such harsh review treatment ;3; <<less

I would have given a four star rating, but I found the end very unsatisfying.

Spoiler

The Origin who is basically the source of all evil is never considered an actual enemy by the MC and stays the winner throughout. The MC & ML' systems have a tragic love story that ends sadly on a forboding note. Even the happy end of the main couple is overshadowed by the evil of the Origin and its ens*avement of the two actors.

2 stars because this story had great potential but was ruined by the ML being pathologically selfcentered, obsessed with forcing himself on the MC for his own gratification with no consideration for consent or any respect for the MC at all. He serves as a better villian character than the ML seeing as how he abuses the MC at every opportunity. The author tries their best to play this off as 'love' despite the ML's extreme selfishness n lack of any gentleness n kindness to MC. Arc 5 it gets... more>> even creepier w added b*stiality. Save yourself the disgust and skip this one <<less

After all the mixed reviews, I decided to just bite the bullet and read this myself. And, well, yeah, the naysayers are right.

It's kind of sad that they are, honestly, since the first few arcs are actually legitimately good. Especially the first one, which is probably what convinced most people to continue this. It felt more like the author got way in over her head with a serialization and didn't properly plan/outline out her work, which is why the later arcs are so... bad.

Anyway, the good: no weird misogyny or... more>> sexism. no random face-slapping revenge fantasies. all the main characters in the arcs themselves (not our two protagonists), whether male or female, are treated fairly well by the narrative, and (especially in the first few arcs) are very likable.

And that's... uh, about it for the good.

The bad: as the arcs go on, the male lead gets more and more overwhelmingly possessive, to the point that it feels like he's constantly jealous and/or forcing himself on the protagonist, which is just... yikes. the narrative (and the MC) attempts to excuse it as if it's just a representation of his love (the more "in love" he is, the more possessive) which is double yikes. And he definitely sexually assaults the MC at certain points, though neither the narrative nor the MC treats it as such, which is... triple yikes.

That's the biggest issue, but there are a ton of others too, and definitely feels like a weakness in planning rather than just that the author is bad writer. The arcs, for instance, get more and more bad, boring, and forgettable as time goes on. They essentially become just vehicles for the two main characters to PDA, and for the male lead to get jealous, and for the main character to appease his jealousy, and for them to show off how badass the male lead is and how desirable the main character is.

None of the worlds feel worth the time, and the narrative even reaffirms this with how both the MC/ML think of the worlds as (basically) a story and the characters as NPCs. It's kind of... awful? Since it's never challenged at all. It also feels super out of place in comparison to the first parts of this novel, since the author actually seemed to spend time fleshing out side characters. Like, it's one thing to start with a novel that has side characters being treated like sh*t (as least you know what the deal is coming in) but it's another thing to have actually good, well-fleshed out characters at the beginning and then devolve into "oh, these characters mean nothing in the grand scheme of things". It feels like a thinly veiled excuse for the author to take some shortcuts in writing.

Oh, and the ending is atrocious. Completely fizzles out. Builds up to a great confrontation and then just goes "nah, never mind, everything's resolved" as if it didn't even really matter. Also basically just summarizes all the plot hole resolutions in an extremely lazy way. It's not like the actual resolution is bad, it's that the execution is sorely lacking. Definitely feels like the author gave up at the end.

TLDR; Starts out good but then devolves into nonsense summarizing with worlds that aren't interesting and an ending that doesn't matter. Don't know what the target audience is for this, but it sure isn't me.

P.S. What is with QTs and bestiality?! Seriously, even if it's a "human" in an animal's body, can we not. Can we just... not. <<less

Still reading, will edit.

While enjoyable, some of the arcs are better than others. For example the first arc was an absolute standout, while arc 2 was mildly ok. To clear up any misconceptions; here's no actual beastiality in arc 5, that world they basically just live as pet and devoted owner. The beastiality is in arc 6 (Panther x sub beast).

overall, it's a solid ok. It's entertaining but not amazing, and while it's fun to watch MC try and adhere to plot while ML eats vinegar, the amount of side characters that fall in love with MC is tiring. As soon as MC comes, everyone in the story is like "hm?? XXX is now a lot more alluring now, what to do??". While the MC, ML and systems lament over MC's heartthrob halo in story, it doesn't stop it from actually getting tiresome. <<less

Its not great but its not horrible. The one part I would love to change is the male lead. It doesn't feel like he actually loves the MC, more like a child being possesive over a toy. He is overbearing and possesive to the max. He doesn't even change much ... more>>

the ML is too one dimensional.

Many of the arcs I found myself skipping big chunks of text because it was either repetitive or boring. I would only recommend this novel if your bored and have run out of things to read (like me)... or if overly possesive ML are your thing. <<less

Pretty good! It's funny how they actually make legendary BL romances everywhere they go, whether it's a BL world or a BG one LMAO even when all MC wants to do is hide hahaha

Characters: 3.7/5

Because of the premise, it feels like MC is too much of the naive white lotus that somehow makes everyone fall in love with him. Honestly I love these types of classic troupes, but I feel like his dimwittedness is still a little much. On the other side, ML is a little too possessive and inconsiderate.... more>> However, I quite like his character and feel it's totally understandable. He's lived through COUNTLESS lifetimes and hadn't cared for anything, but suddenly found a person he did care for; imagine what type of boring life he had lived before! A lot of commenters are complaining about his aggressiveness, but he really does genuinely care for MC, more than MC can even care for him. I do think it doesn't make MUCH sense that he liked MC so much, but oh well. I would've loved to see more flirting and teasing scenes that led to MC "falling in love", but it's fine anyway. I like that it's not really a "fell in love at first sight", but rather a gradual progression.

Side characters are also all decent. I'm especially happy that females aren't portrayed to be evil, as is the case in many BL romances for some reason.

Plot: 4.5/5

Definitely a plot-heavy novel, but lives up to it. Each world is explored quite well, and they all have their charms. The overarching plot of the Origin and setup of the "actors" is also starting to reveal itself, so I'm excited to learn more about that. I also like the epic (the technical definition) finishes of the novels, very in line with "legendary BL romances everywhere they go". The author is able to use the characters' deaths to tug at readers' heartstrings.

Writing & Translation: 5/5

The quality of the translation is very good, to the point that I'm pretty surprised. Especially in the early chapters, it really captures the "this is a legend" mood with eloquent writing and error-free translation.

Overall, not bad at all. As for genre, although it's yaoi there's only a feel scenes that are yaoi, and the rest is shounen ai. They're also very easily skipped. <<less

Positive:

- the translation is incredibly good. Very well done.

- the treatment of the FL is refreshingly good. I enjoy them not being shown to be conniving, but getting their own good ending

- it takes time (maybe slightly too long) but the ML and MC develop and grow as the story progresses

Overall a cute story

Negative:

Spoiler

My main issue with the story is that the MC and ML have exactly 0 care towards the people in the words they visit. No matter the acts, MC will do it because it's part of the script. Regardless of who gets hurt or killed. Because of that, I, as a reader, also have no care for what happens in those worlds or all the side characters.

i dunno why you're going to rate the the book based on the characters likability? Author's craft them in their minds like that because that's how they are! If they are not like that, how is the plot gonna move. Just like the ML, he's an as*hole but like a cunning puppy who follows his crush devotedly LOL. I wondered why I've dropped this and this is the 3rd times I re-read from ch 1 to what I'm in now in the 3 years span. Now, I write this to remind myself and maybe others, this novel is not what you expected. I hate this, remember future me.

The ML is a jerk, he's so obsessed with MC without any regard of mc's feeling and situation. He's too pushy.

There's no compensation whatsoever in those 6 worlds. Idk about the rest of ch but is it not already too late? He didn't think at all what would happened to MC when he keeps being a pig teammate and MC got his points reduced. You said you like him but why you did that to him?? Ughh.. Im so mad!! My hope that ML would be better is completely shattered when he forced MC to have s3x with him

ML seems to never view MC as equal, only an object that piqued his interest in his boring life. That's all. It's not like/love.

I dislike both the main characters of the novel.

Although some actions of Sui Yuan (MC) can be reasoned based on his pure innocence where he knows literally nothing, but I absolutely dislike the ML because he is just so obsessive and his thoughts are way too crooked. He never considers MC's feelings and thoughts. In one of the initial chapters, ML said that he is only being with MC just to pass time and MC is interesting to him and thinks that only he has the right to abandon MC... more>> when he loses interest but MC has to follow him as he has no rights. It is totally obsessive. No matter how the author embellishes his charcter after some chapters, but as ML's mind is already so dark that cannot be changed.

If possible, I would have given it ZERO stars. <<less
