3.5/5 stars.

I wish I'd seen the slice of life tag (and other tags on there that are missing) but I was on the website for a different book and read this one in between updates for other novels I'm reading.

The story is great. I love the MC and ml. There's a bit of angst but its only around the last 10 chaps but its not bad. It was a solid five until I got to the end.

... more>>
Spoiler

I won't lie, the last chapter is kind of disappointing. There's an earthquake where song qingge (ml) moved to in a different country and bai lian huo (mc) decides to go after him. This happened after they got together and broke up in the span of few days since MC's parents didn't approve. The book ends when he tells his roommates he'll return safe. There's a short extra with short scenes of different times in their lives, at different ages. That ending made me want to cry, and its kind of abrupt.

Then, the last two extras. It's about Chen tian and his high school love, li le yuan. We learn early in the main story that this guy went abroad and told Chen to wait for him. We learn in the extras, the kid died at twenty one, committing su*cide due to depression. Chen Tian may have figured at some point something happened, since this is about 40 years after the main story, but made himself think that the other lived well. His best friend knew the whole time and only decided to say since he got cancer and was dying. From the short scene at the end of main book, 62.5, MC and ML are still together in their seventies, and they mention the bf dies. He and his wife divorce, he moves to London, and becomes a caretaker for his ex's grave.

I am not happy. I'm so sad I might be depressed myself. I just finished the story some minutes ago, and I'm going to find another fluffy story, one I mtl'ed so I know the ending but finally got a complete translation or I might cry, and not in a good way.

Seriously. Even if its to surprise the readers, they should tag that su*cide and tragedy. Some people with sensitive triggers would rather not read that.

Can't join in the fest of positive reviews for this work. Only because I found it relatively boring. Here's why:

    • the whole starting conflict sounds forced. MC is not a ladyboy and plays male, what is different is specific way of referring to himself, which is regional thing and shouldn't be anything shocking for people who are aware (or at least there bound to be someone who knows about it to defend him), so all the hate lacks logic;
    • why was he hacked? just because he was close to ML? but those attacks actually didn't affect ML at all, but made MC miserable instead;
    • also about hacking, although it's all the fun aspect of the novel that inside workers and hackers know each other, but it's actually nothing funny at all, we once had country-wise virus attack, which messed week+ time, we received thousands of calls per day, that's why I don't find this sh*t funny at all;
    • MC and ML don't leave much impression, ML's affection is actually based on nothing in particular and turned into a joke, MC spends his entire time playing games, which makes him sound lazy, even inside the game he's nothing special and rides the work of others, it's ok to not be anything big, but the novel didn't give him anything as a special trait, even his loneliness, which makes him seek anyone to accompany him doesn't work the right way;
    • cliche rl interactions of MC and ML, it sounds like taken from somewhere, but they're not anything special, nothing happens, no fluff, no care, no tease, they're just.. there;
    • i didn't care about side-character;
    • real life moments were boring, you might think in-game time was better? but actually MC's character was almost always sitting down while others were fighting and waiting to loot. the whole unlucky incidents too, you can easily start a side account, but oh wait - the MC is lazy to level-up;
    • and of course the whole separation before developing any feelings, like.............. no comments.
So in general it was flat and bland.

Really depressed about the last extra chapters. The main story was good, thought it's seems lacking, especially in the romance side,
Spoiler

but Chen Tian and Li Le Yuan's side story broke my heart, I wish that in their next lives, they could find and love each other happily without worrying about other things. A heartwarming and fluffy love that only the two of them could share and enjoy together.

A fluffy happy main story and--a sorrowful side character's extra story.

As this is written in the 2013, while reading the story, it is better to assume that the story happened at the same year. And at that time, maybe most of the people still couldn't tolerate homosexuality. Meanwhile, in a certain game, after getting flamed online many times, Bai Lian Hua [MC] became the disciple of Great God [ML]. This is the premise of this story.

An excerpt from the main story--

Spoiler

[Nearby] Great God: Bai Lian Hua.

  [Nearby] White Lotus: Here...

  [Nearby] Great God: Someone estimated that about 60% of people have homos*xual tendencies and 3% are true homosexuals.

  [Nearby] White Lotus: So?

Bai Lian Hua suddenly had a bad feeling.

  [Nearby] Great God: Bai Lian Hua, I will bend you

  [Nearby] White Lotus: Pffftt———

Can someone tell him how he should respond to Song Qingge?! Even if 99% of humanity have homos*xual tendencies, he can swear on a pound of cucumbers that he is definitely in the remaining one percent! Er..... Most likely? Probably? Maybe? What's with these self-doubts! He really doesn't like men ah!

[collapse]

Actually, most of the chapters of the main story is really funny, very light-toned and the plot is well-paced--except for the chapter nearing the final part of the main story. For me, the end is quite anticlimactic. What I mean is that, compared to elaborate fluffy chapters, you would actually be surprised like, 'Eh, is this finally the end? So sudden! QAQ'

As for the extra 1&2, it is an epilogue for Chen Chen Tian, brother Smile, Half-Crazy Smile. As the main story is really light-toned, you probably won't expect that there could be a sad--more like a tragic part of that character's life. This extra is really one of the most MEMORABLE among the novels I've read, I am really sad right now because I have read this part, I'm sad for those people who met their ends like Chen Tian's ex. I'm so sad because this happens in reality.

Excerpt of Extra 2--

Spoiler

However, he was indeed dead.

Li Le Yuan originally didn't interact with him much. Apart from knowing that he is Chen Tian's lover and the fact the he saw him off at the airport, he wasn't very familiar with the youth.

He remembered that Chen Tian once said that Li Le yuan liked Tagore's "Bird Collection", Wilde's fairy tales; Saint-Exupery's "The Little Prince"; he also remembered that he wasn't a very memorable young boy and wasn't someone who could be considered as handsome or feminine. His results were also not very good.... otherwise, he would not study the philosophy strand.

That youth who liked to laugh suffered from depression and killed himself.

He could hardly imagine the darkness hidden behind those shining eyes of his but he could see the dense layers of helplessness and despair that was revealed in his diary.

"I feel like I am not like myself anymore. Unfamiliar people, unfamiliar things, everywhere are blond haired blue eyed foreigners..... "

"I wanted to talk to my mom on the phone she just told me to 'get lost'. She said she didn't have such a disgusting son."

"I'm not wrong. Love is not wrong. I love someone and he is a man. It was just that. Why should I be considered to be in the wrong?"

The police told him that they had read through his diary and determined that he had committed su*cide due to depression. They had also found definite evidence of Li Le Yuan seeing a psychiatrist and the fact that he was a loner at school.

The diary which no longer had investigative value had become his will.

Hearing from the polices recount, he had slit his wrists and immersed them in a bathtub of warm water and eventually died of excessive blood loss.

It is said that the water in the bathtub was a dazzling bright red, but the face of the youth who had collapsed by the bathtub had a peaceful smile.

"The heaven is not unfair but I can only go to hell."

This was the last sentence written in Li Le Yuan's diary.

KK, I've actually started reading this story around the time you released fifth chapter, I just want to say--thanks for the translating this wonderful story, especially the extra. <<less

This novel is a delightful read.... until it reaches the end. The ending was vague and honestly could stand to have a lot more details about how the MC and ML finally got together. It felt rushed too - after all the buildup (funny chapters :P) from 1-61 and wham! 62 they somehow got together in a extremely summarized version *shakes head^

This does go a bit into on how homosexuality is very much viewed in Asia, so that I thought was realistic and a good touch to the story.

Very cute novel. MC is energetic, oblivious and a bit of a coward. ML is a Great God in game, but his feelings are very human, he does his best, but sometimes it's not enough. Even though he says a few overbearing things like *spoiler*, he never forces MC to do anything he doesn't want.

The only thing that I was dissatisfied with was the ending. I feel like this novel could use one or two chapters of sweet and fluffy things to soften the heavy stuff before the ending (it's... more>> a HE, don't worry). <<less

okay. I rarely give reviews, either its super good or super bad, but this story lies in the middle. I enjoyed reading it truly, found it cute... until it reached a certain point. Both mc/ML develop their relationship in the later half of the story which to me, is quite less coz I really love lovey dovey scenes, but this story doesn’t sate my thirst for it. There isn’t really any lovey cute shounen ai fluff scenes. And at a certain point of the story, all sh*t breaks loose and... more>> suddenly even before they could date, they broke up. And then the rest half of the story is them heartbroken, trying to get back together, and then it leaves an open ending at the end of the story, though they covered it in the extra that they got back together, but the extra isn’t much of a lovey dovey scene. So. In conclusion, I do enjoy the gaming part of it though it can get quite confusing at times, but I do not enjoy the romance part of this story. <<less

Haha this novel is pretty funny. The MC seems to be unlucky at times. I have no impression on what the ML is like yet (though he has appeared only in three chapters). Since the MC is pretty much into shenanigans playing with his friends.

It's just my personal opinion :

Honestly, I could not connect to the novel.

The MC and ML looked bland to me. No special characteristics, no fluff.

For me the whole thing doesn't make sense.
Spoiler

like. If the ML is really intelligent and liked MC for a long time, have waited for so long, how could he confess so suddenly. And then let MC come out to his parents randomly? Does that even make sense.

There were too many information missing, like the player mentioned in the game which never appeared but ml's friend married his sister.

Also, I understand that author wanted to show a sad ending through their friend, to show how it would be if they miss each other. But it's it too much? And I really could not connect their story to their friend's story.

If you are here for a funny and fluffy novel, with a but of logic, go back. It's not for you.

I normally dont cry because for a side character but now I do because of the extra 2 chapters.

Spoiler

li le yuan and chen chen tian is both pitiful yet its understandable since the country where they live somewhat discriminate against homosexuals.

I love Li Le Yuan character although it didnt describe much about him, I can picture him as a 'ordinary yet understanding, loveable, sunny and gentle person'. And I love the point where he is 'ordinary' and not all good looking and stuff. Just ordinary. His suicid€ too, I can understand it. It hurts being called disgusting by the woman who gave birth to you and live in a country where theres no one you know and he cant love someone who he likes. For example, chen tian.

And chen tian, I hate the fact that even though he knew Li Ye Yuan personality (maybe..?) he choose to accept the fact that Li Ye Yuan lied about their relationship. And after he got skinnier and become good looking, he didnt look for him (Li Ye Yuan). Yes, I KNOW the feeling when you discovered the one you loved actually got together when he/she were aboard. But, considering their relationship at least try to look for him y'know.. Since Chen Tian is also rich and can easily go aboard. Just why.. Why did he.. wait for him? I dont really hate Chen Tian but I agree with the Old Chen Tian, the Chen Tian who loves Li Ye Yuan is nothing but a coward. Sorry.

Oh and dont get me wrong, I really dont dislike chen tian like i've said before. It just that, I have a friend whose a lesbian and asian (im asian too) and she likes a girl, they got together but its just puppy love and they eventually breakup. It was due to my friend's cowardness, she doesnt dare came out of the closet to her family (specially where's her grandparents still alive) and I cant help her much, I feel helpless and distressed. In the end she unwillingly accept a boy who pursued her. (theyre still together and now my friend silently accept him but I know that she still liked the first girlfriend she had.) the boy knew but he understand her feelings and still try to make her feel moved by him. (somehow that works.. but... yeah.)

[collapse]

Oh no im.. typing too long oops? It just I got really overwhelmed by Li Ye Yuan and Chen Tian's story that I cant help but vent my thoughts and feelings about them and feel distressed for both of them (my friend's and LYY and CCT)

Spoiler

oh and the MC and ML story is somewhat.. rushed ?? I dunno but seeing the ending of them I think yeah. Kinda sad when seeing ML being too calm over their 'breakup'. Feels like hes calm on the surface and pained in the inside. /silently distressed for ML. Or maybe im thinking too much.. but still. /silently distressed for ML.

[collapse]

Still, although at first I dont quite understand the story I think its quite average if you dont have any story to read anymore. Just dont try to think and just relax, think of it as a vacation for those who always read Unlimited Flow, Quick Transmigration, Ancient, Fantasy, Horror and any-story-that-uses-brain-to-think Stories. <<less

This was better in the beginning. As it progressed it started to feel indistinguishable from other cliche white lotus stories. What made it enjoyable was the irony of the MCs name versus his personality and how the ML reacted. The MC was trying to make the ML fall for him but he accidentally fell first.

A good gaming with bl element in it.

It'll be perfect if there's an actual beginning, and end in the plot.

I still have questionz from earliest chapters orz and since I finished reading it, it went completely unanswered... not to mention, questions that showed up in the middle of climax and after climax...

Personally, I still dont know what is the cause of Lotus defamed in the game. Why'd Yun Yu hack his computer, and spread lies?

And what actually happened when they went to see Lotus's parent, what happened after that? No explanation, and SY is... overseas??

A lot of support characters that I wish get more screen time and maybe explanation and relation chart just to be more clear of what actually happen???

I'm actually liking this story just because Lotus is older 3years than Roommate, that's really the key here!! ML that is not older, not overly pushy, and younger by 3years!! And MC that's still 'man', not adaptable to girl in thinking just because he is the shou.

Alas... rush ending is never do good...

By the end and while writing this, I am asking myself 'what did I read actually? Is it good or not? I only remember I have questions and questions by the end of it' <<less

This is my first review so take this with a grain of salt. My review has some spoilers so read at your discretion. Plus I kinda suck in writing summaries so...

The story revolves around a boy named Bai Lian Hua (BLH) (lit. White Lotus- even the reason for the name was very cliche) who encountered a 'Great God' (literally aka the ML). He also had a really good online friend named Roommate (who was also the ML). You find that out halfway and pretty early in the story.

Anyways, the... more>> story in the beginning was kinda decent. It was pretty slow and for some reason BLH kinda irritated me. And so did the ML. But I chalk it up to their age, being so young.

Maybe because the way he acted was some Mary-Sue like character that insisted he was straight and "manly" until ML. Even though his features were very feminine.

The side characters are much more interesting in my opinion though.

They were very supportive towards the Main CP, except BLH parents who were quite Conservative so you know what happens [disowned and what not]. A character named Chen Tian made my heart bleed out for him. He used to be fat and had a high school lover who sadly committed su*cide because of depression. The extras made me so sad that it actually made of for the ending that made no sense.

Eventually the game players and real people come out to meet, you'll need to be extra mindful of who played who coz it might get confusing.

The progression of the story was decent, and MC remained quite unscathed due to protag halo (aka his friends who suddenly decided to carry him in the game no matter, without real or logical reasons)

The ending...

The ending was absolutely terrible in my opinion. The country ML was in was hit by earthquake and MC decides to go there to look for him, despite the various sound reasons people give him to NOT go. And after bidding farewell, the story ends there. No joke. We were only treated like a chapter extra on the life of MC&ML after they (I guess) found each other.

I felt that the author maybe had something urgent or what not to end it so abruptly. Because the ending was very unsatisfying. The only saviour after the extra was the other extra about Chen Tian and his high-school sweetheart.

Overall, the story was decent with more solid side characters than the main couple. Though ending was a bit unsatisfactory for me, the extra kinda made up for it. And I gave extra stars just because the translator did a pretty good job making it very easy to read and making the game mechanics understandable. <<less

So far this is really funny. In the game he is misunderstood as some kind of manly guy acting girly but in real life he is mistaken as a girl even if he tries to act manly. I really wish there were more chapters translated already but since there are only about 62 chapters total I will happily wait for them.

If you like online battle games, you could enjoy this... But for me that have zero interest on games... this was so boring.

Mayority of the book are descriptions about the main character's game sesions.

It was no necessary to be so detailed in my opinion, it really doesn't add anything to the story.

the translation is great.

if you're interested in fluffy and super sweet BL romance this is not it.

The romance is lacking, it's too fast pace when the MC does acknowledge that he's been bent, there are no moments that make you particularly know when the ML fell in love with MC and the back story is incomplete. No info about the ML but its not a bad read tho the epilogue was not that good but its acceptable.

There are plenty of flaws but it doesn't affect the story too much, its... more>> an ok read if you wanna pass time. It's also a bit realistic at least the side story is <<less

The translation is great, the story started off and went great up to a point, it's when reality was reflected too glaringly.

I gave it a four because I enjoyed it up til the end or so, I felt it might be a bit rushed maybe like it kinda ended and went to extras... so I felt like it was almost an open end if it wasn't because of the extras.

A touching or something like a scene of reunion maybe is what I was expecting and finally reconciliation or w/e but... more>> that was dropped off a cliff somewhere as it wasn't presented...

Spoiler

Like MC just left to go search for ML due to a life or death disaster and it ends, then onto extra as if they had always been together... it's too abrupt. That kind of whiplash is annoying if it wasn't because the first 80% of the novel was entertaining I would've just dropped it to a 3 for the author's effort and then dropping the ball.

The extras pertaining to one of the other characters in the novel was very very sad, it felt like it was there to contrast with the MC's situation, with it being the worse outcome, but at the same time since the ending of the novel was rather abrupt imo. I felt [paranoid against the author] like this sad extra is just a 'bad end' in the disguise under 'this is what happened to this friend who had a somewhat same situation'.
