The Prince of Su Wang, Chu Ba Ning is not famous because of his great status and power, but because legend has it that whoever becomes his wife will be cursed to death, with no children to inherit his fortunes.

Ever since the Emperor betrothed Lu Shao Qi to Chu Ba Ning, everyone had predicted that she will not be living a long life. Even the biggest casino in the capital city would gamble and make bets about how she would die. The side-concubines gifted to the Prince of Su Wang would also cry and kneel to the ground to hug Lu Shao Qi’s legs, begging for her to not drag them to death with her.

Lu Shao Qi complains: Heavens! Is it easy to find a virtuous wife like me? Such a fortune and you don’t know how to appreciate it!

This is a very insubstantial novel. There's no build up, no growth, no character progression nor any character development. It has such an interesting premise and it kind of just fizzled out to a HE. Our leads didn't really change or grow besides the whole getting married thing and I wasn't convinced by the relationship either. Also, the author's naiveity and s*upidity really can't help but show through in her writing; it reads like s*upid propaganda. All in all.... If you want some softcore p*rn, this is fine. If you... more>> want some fluffy relationship moments, this can barely pass. If you want an actual story based on the premise, any conflict or plot? Nah miss me with this one. <<less

As of now, this novel is fairly new and the story is still building up, I would say it's quite an intriguing novel.

This is one of the few novel where there's no evil step mum, and only little bit of bullying made by the MC step brothers and sister due to MC being a non-marie sue character. Which I am quite happy and satisfied cuz I get bored of those typical transmigration novels. MC is quite down to earth and easily adapt to her circumstances. Quite a likable character for... more>> now.

I look forward to the next chapters update! :D

Sorry but I have to disagree with others. The dynamic of MC relationship is heavily one-sided.... more>>
Spoiler

ML won't listen or consider MC request. I understand it is due to the ancient setting but god, it leave a bad taste in my mouth. MC have no say in their relationship and she is submissive to the point it scares me.

She keeps reminding us of her modern thinking, she will try to do some things but once the ML "no", she dropped everything because ML's eyes looks scary etc. The pro I can find about this novel is that MC admit she is s*upid and spineless. I find this worse than the Bakarina type of novels.

[collapse]

I mean it is okay read but lean to the bad side. Who the heck said this is similar to the to be a Virtuous Wife? Wtf? Heck no. It is comparing a pig with a fairy. <<less

Finally! A realistic portrayal of transmigration. No special skills such as acupuncture or needles, martial arts, anti-poison, business acumen, space pouch or even a doctor (Chinese or western). Such a relief from all the typical rebirth or transmigration tropes. No revenge or special techniques!

The MC is refreshingly ordinary save for her flawless and beautiful skin. Dare I say, she's considered plain by queen mother and at best 'cute' with dimples. For a minute, I thought the author was describing the second lead or a maid but no - it's the... more>> female lead.

It's such a shame that I had to MTL the novel, so there are many parts I had to skip because I couldn't decipher the translation. Although some parts are a bit sketchy due to the translation, I did get the gist of it.

MC slowly falls for ML, which is definitely my preferred trope. It does imply that the ML liked the MC right from the start (perhaps love at first sight) due to his extreme mysophobia, especially with women. It does delve into the reasons for his OCD, and it's very sad. The psychological trauma has left a huge scar.

What I liked most about this novel is the plausible trajectory of their relationship. Yes, the MC is kind, sweet and a little naive but importantly she doesn't stay that way. There's actually more depth to her character. She is well-aware of her limitation, but she does truly understand and accepts the ML the way he is. Don't get me wrong, she does have a temper, but she doesn't throw it around as though she's entitled, and as they begin to get to know each other, she stops 'hiding' or pretending. The ML shows a stoic, serious and very cold front to the rest of the world. In contrast, the MC is sweet, obedient, kind and submissive. I like how each step of the way, they both learn to love, live and accept each other.

For the ML, trust is absolutely important, and I love how the MC time and time again shows her support and affection. While for the MC, the ML will do anything to protect her and ensure she's comfortable and happy. Of course, some tactics are little heavy-handed, and I won't airbrush them. It is well and truly merciless and utterly ruthless. Honestly, he can be quite scary at times, and during the novel, he may appear like a gentleman, but you wouldn't want to 'mess' around with him. I like how he's flawed and real.

Fortunately, the MC is not completely naive and s*upid because she knows and doesn't make excuses for him. In this regard, she does understand him. Mind you, the ML doesn't hide it either.

Truthfully, the MC knows she is not completely innocent or sweet. One of my favourite scenes is her fantasy about punishing, one of her cousins who bullies her. The ML ask how she should like to 'punish' the cousin. Hilariously, she wants to punish the cousin like as in S&M but considering it will ruin the sweet and innocent image, so she decided against it.

She tries to blend in and perhaps to some people this is boring, or it's too soft, but I personally think ladies like that are much more clever. To me, it's a skill because she knows it's the best way to survive and even thrive in that environment. Certainly, there is an art to it.

Indeed, there are no palace melodrama or even political drama, but I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions and above all - their relationship progress. So, I would highly recommend this novel. <<less

jejejejeje...

This is truly a gem! I remembered I laugh hard after reading the first 5 chapters...

MC is so lovely... She is not like other MCs in aother trnsmigration novels. She is just... average. Ordinary. In every aspect. That's what makes her so chrming in my eyes anyway...

... more>> Her interactions with other characters especially the ML are hilarious. Made me fidgeting, can't wait to read next chapter...

In short, this is a sweet love story. I really thank the translator for their effort presenting this awesome work here. Hope that it will continue till the last chapter. <<less

The MC A-nan/Ah-nan was transmigrating to ancient era as a baby. She realised that she was born as low concubine's daughter and didn't has golden finger. For her peaceful life, she has to be an obedient and sweet little girl that everyone will think she as a well behave obedient girl and not a threat.

Then she married a powerful prince, loved by his brother Emperor and mother Empress Dowager. But rumours said that this powerful Prince Su destined to have no wife and no child all his life.

This novel is... more>> a story about their marriage life, how they slowly find they way to communicate, understand each other and falling in love.

It's actually fluffy and sweet romance novel, not many schemes and the antagonists character solved easily. It more about Ah-nan thoughts by comparing her modern knowledge and ideology with ancient's culture. How she adjusted her lifestyle and thoughts to ancient's customs.

This is a good novel and quite entertaining with some hilarious scenes. If you like a light and not many twists, this is the right one to read. <<less

I know the translator is trying her best to update as regularly as she can (but due to personal circumstances, she's forced to update pretty slow). But I'm not a person with patience so I MTL-ed everything!

This novel is a fun read! I will definitely read the translated chapters once they are released to understand the story better.

I love how the ML is very devoted to the MC, and the MC eventually returns her feelings to him in such a believable (and cute) manner.

My favourite moment between them is the birth scene. ML was totally running out of patience (like the kind of person I am too LOL...) and he couldn't bear to see the MC be in pain. The servants had a hard time because of him!! Thank god the Empress Dowager was not there to judge!

[collapse]

This story actually contains a lot of humour. The only dark bits are:

Spoiler

when ML's past is revealed and the MC's kidnapping scene. Other than that, the author throws in a lot of humour in her writing style. Even the maid beside the MC get her own funny story at the end of the story.

I wish there were more parts about the children. But I guess we can't be too greedy since they already made more appearances in the story if we compare it to other similar novels.

A really great read!!!!! <<less

One thing for sure, the MC is a very very ordinary girl. If you are waiting for her to do something outstanding, you'd left disappointed. The story is running quite smoothly, a slice of life kind of story. But it also very sweet. If you like fluff with a bit of snu snu, you'll like this book.

It's quite an enjoyable read. The characters are likeable. And I stand the relationship between the ML and his imperial brother the emperor, I think it's the sweetest relationship in this book. And the... more>> other thing, there's no villain. I mean there's no big bad guy with no reason other than jealousy that you usually find in similar book. All within reason.

It's a good read when you crave for something sweet in a quite day. <<less

This is honestly a boring novel, but I persevered in reading until c59 when I just got tired of being irritated. The writing style is ok, the scene flows well to the next scene. There are no abrupt changes in setting. The MC is nothing special and very ordinary. Sometimes that is a charm in itself, but for this novel, it's not. This is Slice of Life - the readers can't get the excitement from the plot or the twists in the story. Thus, the characterization has to be good... more>> to make a good SoL story. One moment she will act like she's gonna be angry and make ML regret about something he did. Then on the next scene, she's back to being a doormat. It's infuriating. Another character I didn't like is the ML. He appears to be a person in the autism spectrum. Of course, I cannot say whether this was purposely done by the author or not. My bet is that the author isn't even aware of this given that they presented historical inaccuracies in the story which shows their lack of research. The author probably just wanted to make your typical cold and possessive ML. The ML is annoying - not because of his traits, but the way he is presented. He literally just show up in the story to have s3x with MC. There was a point in the story where they faced a hurdle that will bring them closer to each other. It was supposed to be a story milestone, but what happened? They had s3x, which is the same as they do in every chapter. They didn't talk about it; they did not clarify what was on their minds. ML just asked MC a question while they were having s3x and MC answered. Then suddenly they are more in love and the relationship is better? It's so s*upid.

I finally dropped this at c59. I can only list two likeable characters - the Emperor and the MC's father. They don't even appear much in the novel. The characterization in this novel is really so disappointing. <<less

Spoiler

I mean, where did that assassination at the end comes from? How was it resolved? Also, that looming enemy in the north, although I know that there's domestic strife in their country, is it resolved just like that

[collapse]

Anyway, despite my dissatisfaction about the ending, it's a nice, sweet, fluffy story with enough dog blood drama to give it a little spice. And cute children moments, ugh...

The MC is such an ordinary girl that she can't be even more ordinary. She is such a shoujo manga character. Although, fortunately, she isn't just a helpless little white cabbage, and dis show some backbone when she has to step up, so she didn't seem boring. There's no genius doctor assassin malicious transmigrated little miss. She was an ordinary woman transmigrated into an ordinary little baby girl with low status. Her family was not malicious and more realistic in a sense. I especially like the dynamic between her and her di mother. Although MC is shu born, the main wife does not short change her, and while she seemed awkward, she tried to give MC an equal treatment. Her father also loved her because he finds her lovable and makes him feel like having a daughter more than his own daughters born from his di wife, lol. Despite that, the MC knows her place in the family, so there wasn't messy fights between the di and shu children. Although, her other relatives are your typical narrow minded, scheming, malicious people, but they're ultimately tidied up by her husband, so ╮ (╯▽╰) ╭

The ML is more OP than his emperor brother, because that emperor is really brocon, lol. However, due to past horrific events, he's severely obsessed about cleanliness. So it creates a special circumstances in which he only allowed his wangfei (MC) to touch him because he perceived her as his possession, his own people. And because he treats her like an extension of his body, he dislikes other people touching her, even the servants. He can't stand any harm or little grievance to befall her, he hold MC in the palm of his hand and avenged any of her grievance with vicious mean. Typical overbearing ML but he's so heart wrenchingly pitiful I want to give him a hug.

All in all, I enjoyed reading it and can't wait for the proper translation to continue. So far, the translation is pretty good. Hopefully, the new translator will stick around to translate the story till finish. I look forward for more. <<less

I'm generously rounding up to 4 stars, though it's more like a 3.5.

On its face, this is a popcorn romance story that seems pretty clearly designed to let the reader easily step into the shoes of the main character and enjoy her cinderella experience. There are some interesting side characters, some of whom even get their own separate novels (this author has 4 stories set in the same setting and time frame). The humor is mostly cute.

However, when compared to some of the author's later stories though, the flaws in... more>> this one becomes more apparent. The MC is a little too "ordinary" and too passive (emotionally and intellectually) to feel like a proper fictional protagonist. The ML's characterization is lacking, his main quirk overemphasized, and his hidden backstory is not fully explored to the reader's full satisfaction (or at least, not to mine), unlike some of the other MLs in later works. The narrative just drops major plot hooks without a care
Spoiler

such as the barbarian prince who swore revenge against our MC & ML, and whom the ML certainly had every intention of eliminating. He had every sign of being a villain boss, but that plot thread just vanishes afterwards, and the border war fades out to become a footnote. It wouldn't even have been an issue if there wasn't all that buildup and suspense to begin with. I even checked the other stories in the setting to see if it got continued there, but nada.

[collapse]

For those readers who liked the romance part of this story but found the characters/plot a bit lacking, I would better suggest this author's later romance stories. I'll will note that this author does have a habit of writing MC's that are either transmigrated or have a golden finger (or both), and ML's with some kind of mental issue (OCD, prosopagnosia, schizophrenia, etc.) due to childhood trauma. <<less

For the people in this story to openly mock a prince, even betting when his bride/wife is gonna die... what nonsense is that?!

And the MC... I like how she wasn't the usual beautiful and talented FL. But for someone who lived two lives, and was over 30 years old, she was so timid it was painful to look at!

2 stars since I like MC's mother.

How to say, , , it was kinda cute actually. However, I find MC's personality as an adult woman so childish so, , , wtf-inducing. It would actually be better if it wasn't transmigration since mC's personality is wholly like a 15 year old despite being an adult in her previous life, this was the thing that bothered me most when reading. The constant ' she's plump, not beautiful' was not it either.

MC and her maid's relationship was wack too actually. I fail to see their charm, while I understand... more>> that it is to portray MC as a good and lenient master and as a comedic tone, I just feel annoyed by the maid hitting her supposed weakness.

I actually like MC's subtle hitting the others and her making feel others they're punching cotton when dealing with her. ML is, , , just there. I like their time together when others are around and not when they're just around each other, I fail to see they're charm as a couple alone. I liked the scene ML defending MC on her family home though. As for the ML.. he's just... there.

The empress dowager is so annoying, everytime I read her spouting some sh*t despite her son not wanting it, it makes me ill. I have never read someone so insufferable as her.

So I dropped it. The other characters around them are so... eh either. I felt like I was reading a work made my a minor. <<less

Dropping because the smut feels horribly wrong for me. Even though I'm into many kinks and love to read different kinds of erotica, this one was... how should I put it. A medieval romance through and through, with stoic serious ML, and blank paper virg*n MC to the point where you have to wonder why had the author made her a transmigrator if she's even more timid than actual women of that time. That's something that would feel scandalous in the early 1900, but a century after it's... not exciting... more>> at all. <<less

on Chapter 22 now. This novel is pretty cute so far. The author is very ironic about both ML and MC, it made me smile a lot while reading.

Translation quality is good and I like how the translator is putting a lot of trivia and information about ancient times and Chinese words. Almost as interesting to read as the novel itself.

Completed! Man, what a (long) journey.

This novel has everything there should be in a setting with transmigrating into ancient China. If you're familiar with the trope, you should know what to expect.

But what's different about this novel is that there's a surprisingly realistic, ordinary MC who couldn't even be more ordinary. I like that she sensibly adapted to her situation with grace, and she's so relatable her inner monologues had me snickering a lot.

80 chapters in, this novel turned into a slice-of-life genre. It might get boring for some people,... more>> but to me, it's so whole and I appreciate that the author tried to tie up everything nicely, even the side CP wasn't neglected.

To my memory, the author didn't forget any leftover subplot so there's a sense of completeness when I closed the final chapter. Like a journey that has reached its true ending. <<less

ML is your typical cold and handsome ml. He's also doesn't like touching or being touched by others he considers outsiders, basically everyone including his brother and mother, and that goes the same for anything in his possession. When MC marries him, she was considered his, so nobody is allowed to touch her in his presence. There is a psychological trauma behind this and his cold nature. He may act like he don't care about the rumors but he fears it. Evident of the fact when the MC gets a cold he drowns MC with medicinal soup. He also begged MC when he thought she's sleeping to "... stay with me..." he fears MC will disappear on him that he makes sure he always has MC in his embrace every night before he sleeps. Because of this fear, he is very protective and very possessive of MC.

MC is not your typical smart and beautiful heroine. She is describe as sweet and cute but not that beautiful. Sometimes she may get describe as pretty but there are always others who are more beautiful than her. She is also not too smart and even a little slow, which she admits herself. But its not because she's dumb she just doesn't care. Even when the empress dowager sends concubines or when she met ML's childhood friend whose quite close to ML she has this "meh it's ancient times, women don't have power and opinion here. As long as I have food, shelter and money, I really don't care how many mistresses my husband have." She doesn't even treat him as her husband rather his boss and being his wife is just a job. She knows that since she's a concubine's daughter she doesn't have much status in empress dowager's eyes (even if ED herself ordered their marriage). Her family also doesn't like her very much (except for the parents who raised her) grandma even treat her as stain in their family.

[collapse]

So far ML stayed loyal and she is starting to open her heart to him. And the gambling dens still are voting against her living a long life and giving birth. ? My fave is her sharp tongue servant. I love her, she doesn't have a filter. If they were in the modern times, she'd be the loyal bestfriend of MC.? <<less

Not smut at all. I will erase the tag that it is smut. All scenes were deleted or fade to black. Even the kisses were bland.

But it is still a rather enjoyable story. The MC is not cunning like those at Virtuous Wife or Eight Treasured Trosseu.

ML was a bit of 2D. But I haven't finished the novel so I don't know in the latee chapters if he will change.

This is a some fluffy story. Not a heavy plot. It is a good pass time novel if you doesn't want to read too heavy plot etc... novel. Her family is good, despite her being a shu daughter, the di mother still treat her fairly. With how MC is, I think I feel the same as her di mom and father at how worrying this daughter is. There is some bias from her paternal grandma because her background. Even if her step siblings indifferent to her, they prefer her over... more>> their tang cousin as tang cousin is a bit arrogant (kind like frog in the well).

Her relationship with mother-in-law is a typical what the in-law have. She look down at MC's status as shu born (but somewhat forget that she is the one who decide MC as ML's wife). But thankfully there is ML (with emperor as add-on) as a backing. And yup, as the previous reviewer said, ML is OP-kinda. Especially with emperor as a brocon (that help ML to distract the empress dowager) and his "terrifying" aura that can make people silent... <<less

I enjoyed this rather light-hearted fluffy story that focuses on the relationship between the FL and ML. Nothing dramatic really happens with conflicts being solved easily. Minor things does happen with some faceslapping here and there but its very inconsequential. ML protects our FL from harm and hunts down her enemies but in very rational ways.

There are buns in this story too and they’re very cute.

I particularly like how they describe their daughter as super similar to cold-faced stern ML and how everyone worries she’ll find it hard to find a hubby later lol. All the other kids fear ChuChu and BaiBai cause of who they resemble lol! Would have loved more side stories.
