What happens when one eats Death?

Personally, I don’t really know. What I do know is merely one thing.

I’m hungry.

Therefore, I’ll take the heads of these guys and deliver them to my superiors.

Surely, I’ll be able to eat delicious food.

Come, if preparations are in order, we depart.

This was a great read. Unfortunately, it was a tad too short in my opinion (the author seems to only write short works), but the light novel (which isn't fully translated as of writing) seems to greatly expand on characterization and background lore, which was noticeably lacking in this WN version. The author does a great job of making you grow to like Schera and her cavalry band, and is good at creating a certain atmosphere about them, ... more>>
Spoiler

like when we switch PoVs to Vander, and we get an outside perspective of out creepy and terrifying the cavalry can appear to someone who doesn't worship Schera.

Really hope this gets licensed one day and we get a proper, full LN translation.

TL:

DistractedTranslations was a decent, but rather dry and literal, read. It felt like he was using a machine TL at times with how lacking it was.

AsianHobbyist (gaiden short stories) : Complete nonsense of a script. These are clearly machine translations that haven't even been edited. It's so bad that a character's name can change to a completely different spelling on the same page. You'd be better off taking the script from Syosetu and putting it into DeepL to read.

Look for a release by SpicyEPUBs, as this is a proofread version that comes with the LN illustrations, which is more readable. <<less

I'm definitely a person capable of reading hundreds or even thousands of chapters in one day. I'm that good. I can confidently say I'm a very well-read person, but this?? This takes the cake. I haven't had my heart broken so thoroughly recently by a protagonist fighting on the losing side of war and heading towards BE despite being OP as hell. I'd give this 10/10 if I could. Get ready for the heavy angst though. You've been warned.

Desperation, inevitability, grim justice and somewhat happy ending. This is one hell of a story. Literally, hell. Dark, heavy. Interesting and captivating. Not dragged, not clicheed. Possibly set some clichees, though. There's a lot to think about after reading. And after re-reading, too.

Try and build Your own opinion.

Amazing story. They really go for a bittersweet plot here, showing how a single person won't be able to change history by themself. The only problem I have is that the full chapter 34 isn't on this site, you'll have to search for it yourself.

Overall, this is a very similar story to The Girl who Bore the Flame Ring. Great nonetheless.

It was a very entertaining story, no romance without any of that nonsense, the sad thing is that a novel like this may not be found again for at least 3 years or more. T_T

I really enjoyed this serie. One of the WN that I enjoyed the most. My only problem with this light novel is that in opinion the book should have ended chapter 34. I really dislike the bonus part I wish I did not read them. Apart from that it is quitte an original novel which do not follow your average light novel and which is quitte original and well written with sympatic characters.

the prologue is good, but the first chapter I read and knew the kingdom will lose, and I think, the creator must be s*upid, but after reads next chapter it work well, and that give me big slap in my head.

MC Schera Zade motivation : 1. To eat food 2. To kill rebel army (take revenge) 3. I dont know but I read in this coment is to able to eat together with his comrade/people/friend

and there is no justice side, this unique story in good way (RATE 5/5)

I loved this story so much.

When I was in the later chapters, the biggest fight in numbers in the story I thought I'd give this a 4/5 because in the later part it focused much more on the strategic talks and less on Schera, but when I came to the ending I was very satisfied in a way, because the ending was not satisfying, ust what you expect from Schera in a way.

When I then read the after story, I was like, yea that's the ending that was already proclaimed... more>> before, the rebels won. We all knew this was going to happen, but further in the After Story it became amazing, even though just so short, read in 3 minutes, it gave me so much that I'm longing for more but I know that I should just let it be like that and just fantasize myself what more atrocities are going to happen.

Thank you author and translator! <<less

One of my favorites here on NU. The prose was written well, and at times I felt like I was really immersed within the story. The MC is very cool and she made me enjoy reading this more. It's very action-packed, in my opinion. I rarely stray from shoujo-josei genre, but I really enjoyed reading this one. Don't even think about it and just read.

I tried reading this series and could read throughout until about chapter 25. Afterwards I skimmed the rest of them. Maybe something could have fixed the rest of series but for me it didn't. Also this review is mostly used as a rant to went my annoyance for this novel so this isn't probably a good review.

I cannot detailed analysis or anything but personally I didn't like my reading experience. My major gripes were MC's simplicity and how she acts.

The simplicity of her personality doesn't contrast well with every other... more>> plan she comes up. She doesn't struggle with decisions and the thought process is mostly skipped. As her power is quite undefined, she can power thought most of her problems.

Actually I can't seem to get my thoughts together so I will just end it here.

Sorry for bad review <<less

I dont know what to say. Why? Because this piece of art is just such a beautiful novel that any comment on the Story or the characters would just tarnish it.

I know the summery is a bit lackluster but trust me if I say that you just have to read this masterpiece.

A great way to kill time for a day or two.

The characters are fun and interesting, even if you want to punch some of them in the face.

It's a good example of how "show don't tell" is supposed to work.

... more>> ● Even though Shera's powers are never explained, you know what to expect of them because you see her using them all the time.

● The military aspects, but he combat and lifestyle, are very detailed, but never reached the point of bogging the story down with useless minutiae.

● The story spoils it's own ending, but only enough to make you even more interested. <<less

For whatever reason, I enjoyed this. Normally, war stories are not my cup of tea, and if it's included in the story I read, it might be an arc or something, but certainly not the whole focus of the story. However, with this novel, I found myself laughing and enjoying her story as she sent fear into the hearts of her enemies. It was by no means a story of love or change. By the end, the only thing I could think, "man these people sure got a lotta problems."

First novel where I hated the protagonist and hoped that she will die... The novel itself is written fairly good.

Spoiler

The protagonist failed as a human being. Only caring about food and killing. She doesn't care what is right and what is wrong. She doesn't care which side of war is better for the kingdom. She will fake surrender and then betray everyone with no honor. In the end she even kills Diener knowing it will collapse the kingdom and everyone will suffer again. She just kills because of hate. After the New Kingdom is created by the Liberation army she just fights against it because why not, just kill more people...

Even Ainz and Light Yagami are more noble and righteous than her.

And in the end she won't even die? She gets happy ending? Are you serious?

The hero should just kill her in the beginning. Maybe she would if she knew that Shera will become incarnation of Death. Worse then demons themselves which hero is killing.

Just wow. It was short, read it in one night, but it felt so long. Every step of the journey felt like you lived it. You didn't feel like you were the MC, but that was okay because you still felt like part of the story. The writing was beautiful, the translation (though rife with grammatical errors) was well done, and the dialogue! The dialogue was perfect, I could hear the odd speech patterns of the MC, the vibrant boisterousness of Yalder, the insipid greasiness of the Prime Minister (honestly,... more>> every time the MC spoke it was with a weird, almost sing-song but off pitch female voice).

I was blown away by this one. Can't give it a proper review because the places where it shines just shine so brightly the dark parts are left behind.

I would love for this to be made into a manga, and even more so for this to be made an anime. Nothing must be changed, it must remain pure and true to this original work. <<less

What I love about this novel:

1. It is beautifully written! The title is literally what the story is about, a girl who ate a grim reaper-like existence and is now immortal. The flow of the plot from battles to character development to inner thoughts is perfectly paced.

2. The complex characters have serious yet soft moments. Because the MC has a bit of a twisted character due to her childhood experiences, that doesn't stop her from cherishing her subordinates/friends. The relationship/loyalty between the MC and subordinates that develop over the course... more>> of survival/battles is poignant yet tragic. The feels are real.

3. Because of how complex yet simple the MC is, it is easy to sympathize and understand the MC's train of thoughts. Since the story revolves a life-or-death atmosphere, the atmosphere goes from light to tense back and forth.

The only issue I had with the novel is the ending. I found it a bit too open ended, so it felt unsatisfying. Overall, instead of going through a roller coaster, the story was more of a drop tower coaster type of feel. The build up moment was exciting and the drop down moment was just as exciting, but after everything is over, you're kind of left with a bittersweet feeling. I low-key want more chapters or a sequel! <<less

Heavy and gloomy short story, which is not suitable for every mood. If you have the right attitude, then you will like this novel.
This short story reminded me of this manga The Vagrant Soldier Ares. A similar style.

In the novel there is no tragedy, and this gives an incentive to read the novel to the end. After all, not everyone likes to see the death of the protagonist at the end of the novel.

The main character does not have any great aspirations. She does not want to create an... more>> ideal world or something. She just wants to eat with friends and kill rebels. On this she has every right.

There are some points on which there are ninjas. But the author did not overdo it.
My rate is 5\5 <<less
