The Sorcerer King of Destruction and the Golem of the Barbarian Queen

Description

A young man was summoned to another world as the “Sorcerer King of Destruction” to destroy this world while he was still dressed in his lame pajamas. However, he was a relatively rational human, and the only thing “destructive” about him was his naming sense.

He didn’t have any particular desires to destroy the world.

Furthermore, an unforeseen accident occurred right after the summoning. Because of this, the summoner’s control over the young man was lost and allowed him to act according to his own will.

Finally, he accidentally brought forth…a formidable partner.

The fate of this world that was supposed to head towards ruination was now undergoing a great change.

※The heroine’s love is…heavy.

There is currently no LN entry on NU so I'm writing this here instead.

The main flaw of this novel is the MC. Think of all the qualities a beta JP MC would have should they have isekai'd, this guy has it all. Dense, nice, naive, s*upid etc. The whole package.

Although the Dense part is not such a big deal since there is no harem so far as of vol 2.

But my main gripes with it is how naive and s*upid the MC is... The comedy in this novel often involves... more>> the MC having to tsukkomi people who calls him out for his naivety and the MC also has this weird self-deprecating humor which I don't find funny at all just frustrating. Because he actually is somewhat self aware of his bad qualities and yet does nothing to change it. I have a theory that the MC was made this way because the author do not know how to write books. He tells instead of shows using the MC's lack of brain cells.

Spoiler

Him not killing his enemies who had tried to kill him was also very annoying.

[collapse]

Spoiler

There is also this weird setting where the MC having being isekai'd had forgotten his memories on Earth, and yet could strangely remember things like how the native Americans were treated back when colonization happened... Very strange recollection of memories that occurs just to fit in as a sentence in the book. Bad writing.

[collapse]

Is there really a need to have such a bad quality MC? Just make him 10% less naive and I think it would improve the book by heaps. Judging by the pacing and setting, I don't think the MC will ever change unless something drastic happens, like his body parts actually getting cut off or his loved ones actually dying but I doubt the author will have the courage or talent to write this storyline at all...

What a waste. <<less

Good so far (damn I love the detailed world building), and MC is relativly intelligent. Storytelling goes from 1st person view (which makes it even more interesting). All in all hope they will keep translating it.

After reading the raws, which wasn't that bad actually, I can say that the story is alright. Nothing too amazing, but nothing stands out to be bad in my eyes.

The female lead, the uh, elf in the cover art you see is pretty damn cute, which may have something to do with me reading the manga raws too. The MC is pretty likable too, but he's the general isekai'd MC so don't expect too much. Their dynamic as a duo is pretty nice and reading the elf act is just,... more>> it reminds me of the manga "That Girl is Not Just Cute."

Unfortunately, the author hasn't updated the raws in a half a year, which is worrying. But seeing as the LN version is at its volume 2 already, it should just be the author working on the LN.

Overall, it's a nice read. Slightly above the general isekai novels is what I'd rate it.

Give it a go, it's pretty nice. <<less

Note~

This is a short story! Supposedly it was supposed to be longer but was abandoned. I recommend you read the manga instead! The LN is available as a completed single book on amazon, and the manga is completed and available to read online and in store.

idk how much of an odd ball this novel is the MC is like a walking male heroin the dense one in a cringe romance high school drama heroin ya know what I mean.

the main main problem is the Comedy its just odd that its just other character pointing out how how dull the MC is.

its a slice of like isekai yes but its idea since its not romance focused or drama focused it lacks idea or plot it has no goal in mind the characters are just randomly its... more>> to the point that even if it has good comedy it would just be dry as it is rn <<less

So it starts off very interesting and seems to be a more mature story with some lighthearted elements and some serious ones. I quickly read to where to story was licensed and then continued on to the raws at Syosetu. The more I read the sillier it gets but it does have some semi intense action and suspense. The MC is regressing in how he thinks and acts the more I read which has the negative effect of making the story seem more childish. In the beginning he was very... more>> cautious and worried about his companions actions now he just ignores his jealous companion killing sh*t out of the blue with a small form of shock and then quickly writing it off as natural and no big deal. He is also that dense character that is oblivious to the affection being given to him by this same companion. His chuunibyou personality comes out which is another thing I don't like about the novel. I am torn on if I want to keep reading or not. There is so much potential here but history has taught me that these light novels will always let me down if I get my hopes up.

With the novel being licensed I would recommend it but only if you want to continue with the raws at ncode. Syosetu. Com/n0406dr/ and something like google translate. Granted google is getting pretty good at translating (way more readable than it was a few years ago) it still has its issues. <<less

Everything that the other users here have noted in the writing is true; the story — while having an interesting premise and good execution early on — begins to suffer as the main character’s obliviousness and pretentiousness becomes grating to read.

Pros:

- Interesting perspective on magic, golems, and combat; most magic users — through casting magic — coincidentally heighten their natural attributes of sight, reflexes, and decisionmaking. MC uses this to his advantage to intercept attacks that would have ended most others, and enemies in this novel base their fighting around... more>> high-stakes, short engagements.

- MC’s golem has a mind of its own, leading to a lot of humorous situations where she skirts her master’s orders to get them done with her own flourishes and takes (such as “no killing” but seriously maiming and injuring people — fulfilling the no-kill command loosely).

- Supporting cast and other NPC types are reasonably more complex — a bald shopkeeper has complex motives to try and scam the main character (to keep paying for his daughter’s medicine), and many people get understandably terrified of the feats the main character and his golem pull off.

Cons:

- The main character — who is supposed to be the person closest to the reader in perspective and understanding — has every bad quality of an isekai protagonist mashed together. The bullheadedness of Subaru at the start of Re:Zero, the naivety of Ainz from Overlord, and the social experience of your average hikikomori. Outwardly, he tries to take a moral high ground to not kill people and try and peaceably trade and figure out his surroundings in the new world, but his private thoughts is just endlessly insulting people (even as they let him sleep in their beds, eat their food, and teach him the basics of living), staring at women’s ti*s and seething that he doesn’t get enough hot women like the RPGs, or completely whiffing at obvious hints to get himself laid. All of these can be excused if the MC or his golem actually go through character development, but the author plays it off as a comedic gag that overstays its welcome. Lots of cringey moments are dragged out, which leads to another point...

- The story doesn’t lead to anywhere particularly interesting for many chapters, and feels padded out with tons of internal monologue. A quick fight that might be described as [MC gets ambushed, his golem narrowly escapes getting restrained and damaged by brute strength, MC barely is able to intercept a tree-trunk-sized projectile and countersnipe the equivalent of an anti-materiel golem] is drawn out over 4 chapters because the MC has to make 50 comparisons to something in Japan (i.e. an enemy mage hunting down debtors is like a bully in an arcade hogging the machine, or that another mage’s breasts are too large) before the next part of the action sequence can happen. Or a regular interaction with a magic tool shopkeep becomes two paragraphs about how the shopkeep’s bald head makes him ugly (and there’s a LOT of jabs at the shopkeep’s bald head long after the shopkeep redeemed himself from the initial swindling he gave to the MC).

Overall:

Would like it a lot better if the author would play to their strengths and stick with action and worldbuilding, but the garbage internal monologue and the constant ping-ponging from being immersed to constantly being reminded about MC being a two-faced bas**ent dweller from Japan that internally seethes at the world for not being a harem paradise (while ignoring his golem that is obsessed with him) pulls me out of it. A good concept ruined by excessive reliance on comedic gags and an insufferable main character. <<less

It seems pretty good so far. The MC isn’t a complete idiot and not freaking out. But I have 2 qualms so far. 1 is that he only checked the main four elements for what he is good at and hasn’t checked the others and the second is that the elf isn’t elf like yet.
