In a fantasy world where martial artists can split mountains and creeks with a wave of their hand and break rivers with a kick, there exists a little restaurant like this.

The restaurant isn’t large, but it is a place where countless apex existences will rush into.

There, you can taste egg-fried rice made from phoenix eggs and dragon blood rice.

There, you can drink strong wine brewed from vermillion fruit and water from the fountain of life.

There, you can taste the barbecued meat of a ninth grade supreme beast sprinkled with black pepper.

What? You want to abduct the chef? That’s not going to happen, because there’s a divine beast of unfathomable level, the Hellhound, lying at the entrance.

Oh, that chef also has a robotic assistant that killed a ninth grade supreme being with a single hand and a group of crazy women whose stomachs were conquered.

  1. Wow wow at first honestly I didn't have much hope for the book but I mean COME ON!! Like are chinese writers blessed with divine powerss??
  2. So okay the story started and it definitely DID NOT start lame but as someone who has been reading mtl books since 2014 take my word for it seriously calm down and read the book, don't try to put yourself in his shoes or be the "I would have done it this way" I just completed the book I didn't sleep all night and I literally had an trance after like I sat down on my bed for over 10min before spending the next 30min looking for my old account
  3. This book is beautiful excellently written at the beginning it was smooth sailing until he reached a point where if he failed he would LITERALLY DIE yes!! DIE that's how serious it was. He was such a wonderful friend to the point where he literally went to hell for them, almost killing himself but he sacrificed himself everytime even when they where dragging him down he worked EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA hard to go higher but to anyone he got it easy who wouldn't get it easy when failure of a task is death everyone saw it as being easy but no one knew the struggles he faced in the kitchen behind the counter everyone just goes AHHH a new dish the pressure of not being able to fail and a sentient being controlling his every move, dictating his every action he really had it tough.
  4. He saved lord dog soo many times and the rest of the group, he literally saved the word more than 2wice
  5. He went through so much when all his goals and aspiration set out to be just air and all he had worked for disappeared and for over 500 freaking years he was alone but even then he did not break, after 500 he went back and worked even twice as hard for his dreams and beliefs
  6. The warmest part was the fact that everything came full circle he got good karma and his friendssss helped him just by being in his memory as he only knew he was from earth and he didn't know anything looking at their faces and remembering what they've been through was all the emotion he needed to find himself
  7. Andddd to anyone saying he is pompous, If a person that is not in line with your goals come are you not going to ignore them. He had his goals set already, he didn't know anybody no mother no father he only knew he was from earth and he was to accomplish a certain goal and to stand at the top of the world, normal people have done far worse things to just be above one rung on the ladder
  8. So do yourself a favor take ya time and read the book yes it's long yes it tiring but when you get to the end you'll see that EVERYTHING WAS WORTH IT

Update: I just finished reading the novel and it was a very twisted and twistier than a pretzel... never expected for the plot to be like that and the ending somehow left me hanging but still left me very satisfying.....i like reading this because there is no romance and purely adventure this is a very fun novel that makes you laugh and cry at the same time... nice work author and thank you for translating it to the translators. Kudos to everyone.

Despite being only 3 stars, I still enjoy this and stick with it. It was great early on, and a lot of fun. But rapidly, the author's lack of writing skill started to show. This took the form of one critical flaw: He removed all the stakes.

When you literally have the system tell the MC "if you fail a cooking challenge vs another cook, you lose everything forever", you know he'll never fail. I thought "maybe they'll throw out a loss arc, where he has to do something to redeem... more>> himself and regain his worthiness", but so far at over 1000 chapters in the MC has never lost. And since he never lost, he never learned from his mistakes, and thus he has had 0 character development in 1000 chapters.

And to make it worse, even outside of cooking challenges, he never fails. Early on, he struggled to make recipes, and I thought "oh, that's nice; he'll have more and more trouble as the time goes on." Nope. He gets less and less challenged by the harder and harder recipes the longer this goes on. Nowadays, he gets a new recipe or comes up with one on the spot, and it is instantly perfect and better than any other cook's. There is no trial and error.

Moreover, the world is centered around him later on. This hurt the world building massively. Early on, he was just a cog in a larger machine, with political intrigue and stuff going on, and he was often not even the center of the plot. But later? Now it's nations of cooks, sects of cooks, continents of cooks. And they cultivate via cooking, and heaven recognizes cooking challenges. The only way to become the strongest is via cooking.

I was really sad to see this happen. It felt interesting when he had a completely unique cultivation system exclusively to himself, but now, everyone not only can, but has to cultivate via cooking. It's not gonna be "the world's greatest swordsman vs the world's greatest cook" ever. Which is really saddening; watching some cook one up the standard wuxia tropes is much more interesting than watching him one up other chefs who also fight with woks and kitchen knives.

Despite all this, I still recommend it for a read. Early on, it's really interesting and complex and a lot of fun, and even later on despite the serious flaws the face-slapping is often really fun. If face-slapping isn't enough to carry a story, I'd read the earlier chapters, but leave as soon as the Valley of Gluttony starts being a major thing; after that the MC truly becomes an MC, and it's a lot less interesting because of it.

That said, it's not my favorite cooking novel, by far. If you really want to read something about cooking in another world, without the over the top face-slapping or cultivation stuff, I personally love Cooking with Wild Game. <<less

Ok novel, there's shitty nationalism towards the end of the novel which is annoying. I hate it when authors ruin a novel like that for me so I'm giving it a beautiful 2 stars for being good then turning into shit.

It's good cooking novel...... when its cooking.

Anyway at this point (c628) I really tired of this novel tbh.m

Why? Because everyone, EVERYONE GOT PLOT ARMOR

... more>> The MC, MC pupet, MC dog, MC chicken, MC follower, MC enemy, etc. Got a frickin Plot Armor

.
.

For the last few hundred chapter the battle, no the conflict of the Bu Fang (MC) and the designated enemy of the current arc just the battle of who's got a thicker plot armor.. really just read atleast ch 600+ and tell me that this novel, except whrn Bu Fang cooking just a contest for who got the thickest Plot Armor (it's Blacky imo).

If you want to read Cooking+Fantasy+Game system try Daddy Fantasy World Restaurant imstead. At the current chapter it's funny and heartwarming <<less

As a food lover - this novel was a gourmet's dream come true. A comprehensive attention was paid to ensure that readers saliva must flow everytime the author describes food.

However as the novel progresses; the repetitive situations where the MC just keeps a calm blank face and the endless boring fights just drags the novel to the point it's a bit unbearable to read. Although the interesting side characters and foodp*rn is what keeps my saliva and eyes in still keeping up with the novel.

Spoiler

As of chapter 1537 - we see MC Bu Fang spit blood for the first time (I was surprised I thought he'll be the same numb blank face MC that doesn't get injured) and his God of Cooking Set which has never failed him got destroyed. I do like where this is going, a nice break from the endless repetition.

The setup is identical to Gourmet Food Supplier, just a different setting.

And like Gourmet Food Supplier, the enjoyment comes from the costumers; while the cook, the MC, is being a pest. Why do they keep making the MC unpleasant?

Again, another fairly fun premise ruined by a fairly awful MC.

Dont know which one started earlier but this is similar to Gourmet Food Supplier. Only difference is in GFS it is in modern world and in GoAW its in fantasy world with arrogant young masters and their threat to kill everything. Similarities in both novels are ruthless Gourmet system and absurd prices. Ofcourse they use fantasy ingrediants as mentioned in descriptions but thats the fun of it..

Gourmet Food Supplier but in a cultivation world and a OP servant and dog.

Still an enjoyable read because the MC has a character and a bit interesting due to c*cky customers :3.

i like it. Its a very slice of life/ drabble type of story.

if you just want action and lots of char development then this probably isnt for you.

it reminds me a bit of those bartender/cafe mangas in terms of plot flow. Where the MC stays relatively the same and just oversees the other chars growth.

the plot revolves around the side characters, but from the pov of their interactions with the store. The MC is relatively stoic and more or less stays the same emotionally (bc theres no huge conflict/trauma so... more>> far) , and slowly grows in strength.

the characters are all unique and well developed, so even though I still cant name them, I know whos who lol. <<less

i came after reading stay at home dad's restaurant in another world... expecting something good and similar like that but this is just kind of disappointing... the MC feels dead with his expressionless face all the time and pretty much no personality...
MC has no goals or motivation so it feels like m reading something sooo incredibly boring... dnt tell me he wants to become god of cooking and thats his motivation.. thats not even remotely interesting at least to me.. at least in daddys restaurant in another world he... more>> had motivation and reason for his reincarnation in another world... plus the system also has way more of a personality than this one

the side characters has no point in even existing since he keeps moving everywhere.... plus he keeps moving from one place to another instead of operating his restaurant and making it bigger.. kinda like a cultivation novel... boring.. if I read this first then I probably wouldnt be so disappointed...2/5*s at best <<less

Highly recommended novel if you are a patient reader! This novel has a great tempo in the beginning, although it might seems quite a bit boring due to the MC character, surprisingly later on the MC has character development.

MC journey become more perilous yet his strength grow. If you had just read a few hundred chapters then you might not touched the main plot of this story just yet, the slow development is something I appreciate though because MC is a faceslapping machine so it'll be boring if he got... more>> everything in fast pace.

Some of the arc might seems to be a filler but it's actually a buidling up to make his ascension to greater power more reasonable. It's also interesting to see the great powers behind the MC are getting more close to the MC as his powers grows.

The food explanations is not perfect however, but I quite like some of the descriptions. The side characters are all interesting, I like some of them. Oh but not all side characters are important, there are some who are just there for the different arcs, but for the important side characters they will accompany the MC long into his journey

I haven't finished reading this yet but from what I've read so far I'm satisfied. It's not a heavy read but not a easy read either because there's a lot of things going on.

Quite sad that there's only 1800 or so chapters, I'd love to read just more extra chapters about MC and other characters daily life <<less

This is a good novel... Sadly the translation on Webnovel is very slow only about 5 chaps/week and at the time only 483 chaps are translated. Very sad to see this promising novel get buried under the overrated CEO type novel on Webnovel.

Now as for the review

This is a 'One for All' type of novel... You read one, you read all... There are more cooking novels like this set in a xianxia style world but I have to say, only this one kept me reading till the end...

This novel focuses on food. The MC has to keep earning from his restaurant businesses and the earnings directly transform into his cultivation. Ex. He has to earn 1000 crystals for reaching a breakthrough and 10000 for another rank up. The side characters do not feel stale and 2-D unlike most of the Xianxia novels. Although not completely free of the cliches, this novel is certainly not your typical cultivation novel and has more of an OP protagonist. Some people may have noticed the similarities between this novel and 'Gourmet Food Supplier' as both have nearly identical story. I won't say much other than this novel was written earlier and is better than the other. The MC has to constantly improve his cooking skills to deal with higher leveled ingredients and the 'System' gives him tasks which on completion, increase his cultivation or gather important tools.

His eventual goal is to become the God of Cooking and at the end the story keeps getting better and better. All the people who criticised the MC for not having a personality probably have not read this novel till the end...

Spoiler

Sadly, there's no romance

This is an entertaining novel that you can read to give you a break from the others. When you read someone trying to concoct some pills, how they throw different stuff together etc, change it all to food ingredients and you have this novel.

Apart from your traditional face slapping with strength, there's also face slapping with cooking ability too. The side characters are all fun to read about and there's a lot of comedic elements to it. The comedy slows down where I'm at and the MC seems to be... more>> turning into a trouble magnet.

I recommend everyone to give this novel a try if you haven't started on it yet. <<less

Beginning chapters are good. Although the system/dishes is somewhat the same with Food Supplier, the difference would be shown after a few chaps.

I found this novel really awesome, aside from detailed and mouthwatering way of writing the dishes, the novel is very entertaining and comedic (w/ black and whitey), contains cool action better than most xuanhuan/wuxia novels and support chars have somewhat dept and story.

**BUTTTTTT!!!**

... more>> I don't know where did it start but the novel gradually lost it's essence.

Its started to focus on senseless action. Continuous arrogant cannon fodders, troubles after troubles and MC starts to change his attitude from carefree/laid back/ don't want trouble to overbearing, creates trouble everywhere for the plot and ingredients that he thinks he **"should"** own.

It came to the point where 5-8 chaps are fighting and 1-3 chaps cooking, then cycle repeats. The cooking chaps are sort of a tr*sh compared to the beginning chaps imo.

I'm still reading bc of whitey and blacky.

PS. Fortunately it's still contain humor. <<less

[Edit: Although you wilp love this a lot if you dont read cooking books, there are better ones out there. The novel is lovable because of how unique it is... but the actual story is very repetitive and has lots of filler, so u will likely drop by 100 chapters, as from that point you are just forcing yourself to read.]

The best cooking book Ive ever read. Gourmet food, unique MC personality, Good background development, Martial Arts World, Good Hook, One of the best books... more>> in comedy, Baits, amazing subplots (side characters) , able to connect with MC, leveling system thats not cliche, cooking process when detailedly described not boring but intriguing and interesting, one of the besbeselstno I read that made me laugh as most "comedic" novels arent that funny or rarely have jokes, cute characters, despicible characters, food, etc. I luv it <<less

I understand that a lot of copycat stories exist but the similarities between the first few chapters of Gourmet Food Supplier and Gourmet of Another World can almost certainly be considered plagiarism. I was convinced that they had to have the same author and one of the stories was just the first attempt. But alas they do not have the same author.

I assume the stories diverge significantly at some point but after reading a good amount of Gourmet Food Supplier I can not stomach reading this.

I will refrain from rating... more>> this solely based on the fact that I do not know which story came first. <<less

if you have been reading many repetitive Chinese novels, this is an extremely refreshing read, as I have read around Maybe 20 or so Chinese novels, I stumbled upon this great piece of work. The story puts a lot more emphasis on cooking and running his store, while correlating nicely to this plots occurring out side of the store. It' s an interesting and intriuging read, if you had to make an example, I guess it would be like a breeze of fresh air amidst a rundown urban city.
