I love this story. First time reading a transmigration story along with a system that is completely different from the norm and in such a good way!!! At first I was "hmmm..", then I was like "okay... uh huh...", Then "interesting..." And now I'm at the stage where, "why are they not updating 10 chapters per day???" Level乁[ᓀ˵▾˵ᓂ]ㄏ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. The character development and plot is not immediate, so it feels completely natural. There are few moments between the host and the system which just scratchs at your heart.. just... more>> (◜‿◝) ♡♡ (˃͈ દ ˂͈ ༶).

Verdict: TRY IT OUT!!!!\ (๑╹◡╹๑) ノ♬〜 (꒪꒳꒪) 〜 <<less

This novel is overrated.

Yes : the setting is good, characters are interesting, every details has importance... Others already made a list about why the novel is good. Plus, the translation is great.

But seriously in I don't remember how many worlds in 1/3 there is story about r*pe. For a well written novel writing about this subject again and again it's strating to get boring and unhealthy. Don't worry it's not descriptive and I know there are many novels with r*pe in the story. I'm saying : this subject appearing so... more>> much in this story proves the author lacks imagination.

And an author with no imaginative story gets boring. The dark themes are actually an interesting setting here but it's not well developped and a little redundant.

If you hesitate : you can test but it won't be my first recommendation. If it doesn't enthusiasm you stop right there, don't waste your time. If you love the story go ahead the ending is good.

For me it's a 3, 3/5 but it's so much overrated that it's a 2, 5 or 3/5 max. <<less

3.5 stars. Again, I really liked the book in the beginning but my interest waned. I think Chinese webnovel authors are really good at writing interesting and strong openings, but after that, most of the stories tend to be similar.

Anyway, this is a very unique take on transmigration and rebirth. The story is about the protagonist who goes to different worlds to help someone who had had a tragic life and died, and he basically writes a happy ending for them. All of these worlds usually involve a male love... more>> interest who is a piece of sh*t and indirectly or directly caused the death of the character (scum gong trope).

The author deconstructs quite a lot of genre tropes this way because she touches upon a lot of the common danmei premises - modern and contemporary, historical, fantastical (xuanhuan), apocalypse, even abo 😂 the pairings are also common relationship types in danmei, so the author really kind of pulls the love interest's characterizations apart to show how unhealthy some of these love interests are. I read melodramatic, toxic danmei relationships for fun and felt a bit called out 😂😂

Anyway, these are the individual arcs, or the side stories. The main story is about the protagonist's past, his secrets, and his own love interest and all these are revealed very slowly through the course of ten worlds. I liked this story for the novelty. It's a bit like reading a mammoth fic on AO3 and then each chapter is a ficlet with a side pairing. The author's values and perspectives also align very well with mine, so I didn't feel constantly like I disagree or couldn't stomach the treatment of serious topics.

My main issue with this novel is that it is a whopping 270 chapters. And for most of these 270 chapters, the main storyline progressed at a snail's pace. You learn one new fact per world. Or that's how it felt like in the first few arcs. The story of each of the ten worlds also relies heavily on flashbacks where everything is told to you. It gets old very quickly. I am so thankful for that one reviewer on NovelUpdates who gave a succinct summary of each world so I could just skip everything.

I like the protagonist but also felt like he's a Mary Sue. He is very smart, like a genius detective in his ability to quickly grasp and deduce cause-and-effect and come up with ingenious plans on the spot - but also a sympathetic figure with a tragic backstory, lots of angst. Ruthless and cunning but also empathetic and kind. Very perceptive but also suitably slow when it comes to the love interest's real identity and secrets. He's pretty much perfect.

So overall, I enjoyed this but wish it was like 100 chapters shorter. I'm definitely interested in checking out the rest of this author's works. <<less

So, what more can I say about this work? The users earlgreyt, hy-d-ra, and IndusEla have pretty deep reviews about this novel already (Use Ctrl + F to find their reviews). You can check theirs to get the feel on the characters (awesome and real), the plot (dynamic) and the relationship progression (actually realistic). I'll aim to touch in passing what they've covered and break some new ground here.

Warning; will probably get meta at the second half.

The writer is very skilled and competent at their work: Where most quick-transmigration settings... more>> suffer from infodump-itis, this one doesn't. Author knows just how much information to give, and at what pace to give them. Sometimes the reader wishes they know more, but just like Chi Xiaochi knowing that it's more important to act at the right time than to know everything, we move with him, planning and even improvising on the spot as the situation develops.

It makes everything feel more real, the risks more acute and the stakes higher. Chi Xiaochi is risking his own safety too, in every world. He's not just an omnipotent passing saviour.

The MC doesn't always know everything immediately and I love it: You actually see how smart the MC is here, instead of it being something mentioned over and over by the third-person omniscient perspective. This is one of the few works where I'll say that the writer manages to write a genius in his own field of improv acting and troubleshooting. Yet Chi Xiaochi is still human enough with his own flaws and foibles that he doesn't feel like a Gary Stu.

Now, I'll second hy-d-ra's words here. This novel will make other works of the same genre feel inferior and shallow. This is 1000% true. Why?

Depth and Layers:

Most c-novels are the equivalent of snacks. You know, easy to consume, you don't need to strain your brain too much to read it, and most of the time has zero nutritional value. They're nice, bite-sized pieces of endorphin rush that helps you get through your day. How it achieves this is by relying on a grab-bag of tropes, established setting and even scenarios (which is why rebirth and/or transmigration is a popular concept). This is fine. Not every written work has to be Finnegan's Wake, Dream of the Red Chamber or La Divina Commedia.

There are always risks associated with this that has to be kept in mind, though.

That means that such a novel relies a lot on stereotypes, on clichés, on the relentless drive to reach happily-ever-afters. I've become too used to those that I can immediately gloss over such annoying writing bugs in the next random c-novel I'm reading. The difference here being, this novel isn't content with that. Even as this novel entertains you, pulls you along with its excellent plot and the pace that Chi Xiaochi takes care of the original host's problem, it forces you to face the fact that life isn't simple.

Some wounds will forever scar the people who received them.

Why should some scum ML's be forgiven? Why should the trauma received by the original host be waved away? Some relationships are broken, and some people really can't be a good partner for the original host to be in a relationship with. This is one of the few danmei/yaoi/shounen-ai novels I can actually get into, because the number of times I just want to punch the ML in the face and then geld them is uncountable.

That might sound a little hypocritical of me when I can read het novels a lot easier with rather... odd ML's, but that's because I already don't identify with the FL's that much. I didn't grow up being expected to smile and be friendly to everyone. In my youth, I don't get reprimanded if I wasn't 'nice' enough to some a**holes and have to adjust my behaviour, while later I realised that this is the expectations that some girls have to grow up with. They have to manage other people's emotions and feelings and making them their responsibility too. That if they get harassed, it was somehow because they dressed 'too s**tty'. These are all the things I only understood much later in life, and gave me the strange realisation that I've figured out a large chunk of why some girls' behaviour were incomprehensible to me when I was younger.

That's why I can tolerate FL's reluctance to reject jackasses outright, for one, or their dogged and determined friendliness even in the face of characters whose faces I really want to blow up. They grew up with a different upbringing than mine, walking a narrower tightrope. I swallow that down and cheer for them to succeed, because I want to see them finally live a better life. Even if I don't give a damn about the ML.

When the MC is a guy, though...I can't even fall back to those excuses I tell myself.

I can accept if the author wrote them well. Chronic abuse warps a person's thought, making them believe they are not worthy of many things. It is sad but not a surprise if people with such background end up in a relationship that in some ways mirrors their earlier abusive one. It's the same with people from difficult economic backgrounds, already used to tolerating so much from life that tolerating this as*hole who loves them that has a great background, family and wealth sounded like a reasonable proposition for them. There are countless other ways that a psychological quirk or flaw can be exploited by the jackholes of the world.

But some writers, relying overly much on tropes, clichés and established settings can easily fall into a trap of just chasing for that happily-ever-after without wondering on how and why it is achieved.

Why would some male MCs still tolerate such crappy behaviour when their background seems okay enough? Why wouldn't they just punch them in the nose and dump the arse? When they accept these sort of behaviours that are controlling and/or abusive? When the writer makes seemingly well-adjusted people accept a partner with these traits, they normalise them. They make it seem like being controlled or abused is just something you'll experience in a normal relationship. And yet we see this often in these works.

The writer here? They don't accept all of this. This is not normal. In every world, they proceed to tear apart every ML's shitty justification and excuses. Chi Xiaochi gives the original hosts wings and escape plans, giving them the opportunity to stand tall once more and see their life is their own once more. Crappy people has no place in them.

TL;DR summary: Stop cooing at that pile of manure. Please put scum ML's where they belong, in the tr*sh bin. Planeswalker/world-hopper Chi Xiaochi is here to give you a masterclass on how to brutally disintegrate your tr*sh completely, as well as to how to love and respect yourself first before considering on entering any relationship.

Some Matrix-like grand overarching plot of us-against-the-system happens too, first in the background, and then slowly gathering momentum and intertwining with Chi Xiaochi's work. The more that Chi Xiaochi risks himself in each world, the less system 61 is content to stay as a passive AI system either as he tried to gather his fragmented memories. <<less

I don't read many internet novels; I can't stand too many plot inconsistencies, lack of character depth/development, bad writing, and most importantly, problematic/unhealthy relationships. As such, I often skim through novels or drop them when I see these things.

Except for this one. I don't read novels with the intention to really engage and invest in something, but this one truly drew me in. It fulfills everything a BL novel could hope for and a little more. I unexpectedly fell in love with it.

My favorite thing about this is the respect... more>> the MC has for other characters and the ML. I dislike face-slapping novels: they're extremely shallow, the MC is too arrogant and OP, and in the end, I'm left dissatisfied because the side characters never get enough development for me to care. Chi Xiaochi's consideration for others isn't just to make him look good: the novel itself treats every character as a human, with full backstories, individual motivations, and fleshed out emotions. No one is just a tool or a prop for the protag to use: they all have their own roles and their own stories. Xiaochi's revelations about the truth of the system are also a thoughtful twist on the QT genre, and his compassionate, respectful treatment of the original owners is a breath of fresh air.

The cherry on the top is the healthiness of the MC/ML relationship and how the MC points out toxic + abusive behaviors in relationships that many novels romanticize. Many other MLs are also these cold, hard rocks that don't have any personality traits other than being tragic, OP, and being the MC's golden finger. Moreover, the MC/ML relationship in these novels is often questionable: the MC relies unhealthily on the ML, the ML is overly jealous/possessive, and intimacy is often forced. But not this one: not only is the relationship with the ML equal, healthy, and wholesome, the novel also exposes the toxicity in many BL relationships. It's refreshing that this author realizes how abusive certain characters/tropes can be and how these relationships that look sexy to others can be extremely damaging in truth.

Overall, this novel turns over many traditional tropes on their heads and, in the process, raises questions about the genre while simultaneously spinning a beautiful story. It can be a bit heavy, but if you're willing to read it, you won't waste your time. So if you're tired of low quality, bad plot, underdeveloped characters, and abusive relationships, come read this— you won't regret it. <<less

You know how you have that one novel (or many in my case) that just collects dust in your "to read" list because you just can't bring yourself to start reading it? I'm ashamed to say this is one of those novels for me. But once I finally started it, I kid you not, I did NOT put it down. Although I've put it on hold for now because I want the most recent Arc to be fully translated before I dig in and get into a trance again.

I've been... more>> reading so many novels lately that I'm finding it hard to come across good novels that really grab my attention so this gem was an amazing surprise.

The MC? Our smart/cunning/hilarious/can't sing to save his life Xiaochi. WOW does he put other transmigrator MCs to shame! He always has a plan and always has things under control. Anytime I would start getting anxious I would tell myself to think like 061 and trust our MC cause he always had a plan.

The ML. Just the sweetest fluff. It's hard to come by an ML like him who fully dotes, respects the MC, and trusts him wholeheartedly to take care of things but also is always on standby to project him. I'm trying to keep this spoiler-free so I'll stop there but he's just... ugh too amazing<3

THE WORLDS. So beautifully created by the author. There has not been one boring world (or Arc) yet. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of world-hopping novels but the way my interest never strayed throughout the different worlds here is making me want to read more of this genre.

I'll stop here cause I haven't finished the novel but 100/10 recommend for anyone wondering if they should start this. You'd be missing out on an amazing story with amazing characters if you don't! <<less

Honestly, this is one of the best transmigration // world-hopping novels that I have read other than 'Quickly wear the face of the devil'. The storyline is well planned and for me, it was actually interesting enough to keep me excited throughout the whole journey of reading it. It was long but it definitely was not boring at all.

Both the MC and ML are smart people. The MC especially is just amazing. He has both the brains and the heart. The story behind the MC and the ML was not as simple as it seems so they will explain slowly through the first half? of the novel and there are also some flashbacks which made me quite sad and emotional.

One thing that came as a surprise for me is it's ending.

Spoiler

So when the MC finishes all his tasks, he can make a wish. For most of the transmigrators, their wish is to be able to either be alive in their own world or to live in a world that they have been too. However, since the ML is the 'system', is wish was slightly different from what I actually expected. BUTTT, the ending was one of the most satisfying ones I have come across when reading different novels so I am extremely satisfied with how it turned out. It's definitely a HE so no worries.

[collapse]

Do give this novel a try. Even though the title did make me think that this novel may not be as good as the rating and it may be somewhat ridiculous but... HAAA I WAS TOTALLY WRONG. For me, it was definitely a gem and I did not regret reading this novel. Sooooo skim past the bad reviews and focus on the good ones ;) Don't let the bad reviews deter you from this amazing novel.

Try it and you will know what I mean :D

OH YEAH!! did I mention that this was so good that I had to read the raws on another website. It was all in Chinese and my two brain cells allowed me to actually finish and understand the story and plot and what exactly was going on. I usually don't read raws but this was one of the exceptions :)

Ahhhhh!!!! I wish I could give this more than a five - that's how good this is!!! ୧ (☉□☉) ୨ I've read the translated chapters and a few more in MTL and I have to say, I'm completely psyched to read the whole novel. The writing is wonderful amd this becomes more evident due to the EXCELLENT TRANSLATION. The translation is one of the best I've read to be honest. (゚ヮ゚) As for the MC & ML : The setting isn't completely clear yet but the MC seems to be the cool headed clever type that is REALLY GOOD at scheming. But he's very compassionate towards the original body and that's not something you usually see. All the reviews have already mentioned about the plus points of the novel and I have to agree that this is a masterpiece. I don't know if it'll be the same later on but this is definitely worth reading based on the few chapters that have been translated. Rather than just simple face-slapping and counterattacking, the novel puts a lot of emphasis on character development - both for the MC & ML and for the characters whose bodies the MC occupies during the missions. The ML becomes quite obvious to the readers after a few chapters but there are a lot of complexities involved which makes me want to madly MTL this. Alas, the MTL is worse than dog s**t compared to the translation so I can only hope for the translators to pick up their pace ASAP! _ (:зゝ∠) _

There are a few spoilers and warnings though. Just as it's been mentioned in the previous reviews, the novel has quite a lot of angst. I couldn't help reading the spoiler to keep my heart safe. Firstly,
Spoiler

the author's note in the TOC quite clearly states that the system is the ML gong. As we read further, we realize that he's the MC's childhood friend+crush who had died in their original world. Some of the spoilers in the other reviews say that he died to save MC from mol*station and all but I can't comment on that till I've finished reading. He seems to be very caring about the MC despite losing his memories.

[collapse]

There's also some intricate plot relating to the MC, ML & the lord god. But I guess we'll need to read further into the novel to know that. Overall, it's a MUST READ!!! (●♡∀♡)

This is a review coming from someone who think Quick Transmigration is not his cup of tea.

I don’t know if it is only me or there are also other people who does not like to read QT stories but I think there are other people also whose really not a fan of quick transmigration. It’s not because of hate or dislike to the genre, it’s more because it’s hard to get hook with quick transmigration stories mainly because there is no strong and interesting main plot. You could consider the... more>> worlds being hopped as sub-plots but in the grand scheme of the book, it hardly offers substantial empathic points other than it is a world that needs to be completed, that will probably (?) gives growth to the MC. I think people love it for the slice of life kinda of feeling, or the experience of experiencing different worlds and relationship. But for me, this is the reason why I don’t read QT stories, because what you experience from that world hardly ever gives a big impact to the main goal if ever it has it. The experiences you have, relationship you made and achievements you’ve done will turn into zero because you’ll be going into another world. So, you know what I mean, for me it’s like I’m experiencing a thing, giving it time, only for it to be a waste of time as that relationship, I can’t take to the other world.

That’s why when I’m reading QT stories, it’s really hard for me not to sleep on it or even retain interest just from the first world. Couple with the slag ways of the MC to create a romantic relationship in this world then to create another romantic relationship in another world. Dude, I’m a loyal person. It’s the same with reading books, I’ll only invest liking to the ML. Aside from that, don’t even mention the system being the ML, that was weirding me out, just a personal opinion.

To the review itself. What brought me to this book is the high ratings it has on NU. So when I read the reviews and saw dazzling comments about how really good this book, I was instantly curious. Then I noticed it was a QT, but still, it did not stop me from reading this. Because I really wanted to experience the thrill people may have when reading this genre seeing how high the ratings are.

I was reading the first arc or the first world, I can say that the character and the plot are good. There is a well-established goal and direction to the whole point of world hopping. The author knows what he/she is doing and it was nicely made. It was good. But I can’t still stop myself from considering dropping the book many times. Not because it’s bad, I can’t pick flaws from it actually. If it’s a single world book I will be hooked for sure. It’s just I can’t help myself having thoughts like ‘ Am I really going to read 9 more worlds about how he’s going to make all this tr*sh men regret what they did? They’re not even love interest itself. I’m interested with how the MC and the ML will reunite in their own world. But it’s a no brainer that they will be reunited and they will have a happy ending. If not? Then that’s their luck’.

You see, it’s hard to get hook with something if you know what will happen. The MC together with the ML will travel to 10 worlds get their wish and somewhat with more complicated plots in between they will have their happy endings. The problem is both the MC and the ML from the start already loves each other and both of their goal is to be with each other in the end. Then imagine reading 10 worlds in between of this, it really drag my interest down and I slept twice reading the first world. It’s different with those not QT stories as even if you know what will happen in the end, you were there for the process and the fluffs, the conflict, the emotional hurdle and others till they reach the end whether if you predicted as HE or BE.

But still I gave this book a chance to at least read the whole first world before hopping to another book and boy thank god I did. Why? Because there are more to the stories than it shows. Especially the big villain introduced to the end of first arc. Then I read the first chapters of the second world and damn it became personal already for the MC to finish this world. It was also interesting, how the challenges suddenly grows exponentially. Like how will you make a man regret if that man has some serious mental issues and has no affection to you other than sadistic tendency to beat you up. Don’t even mention the man is straight. So here I am continuing reading this book. Give it a chance. It’s actually good. <<less

As of now, this is a good read with only a couple of arcs I wasn't into. The overall story is very interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Summary:

MC is a Host who gets revenge against scum gongs on behalf of their deceased shou's. In the process, he discovers his system, his duties and the Lord God who gave him both are not as they first appear.

... more>> Broad Opinion:

This is a very well-written novel with great characters and a lot of creativity poured into it. The author worked hard to make everything feel unique even when playing with common tropes. The creative spins it takes makes it a pleasure to read. It is, however, full of triggers, so readers should be conscious of their limits. The reason the Host is being called in is because the originals suffered greatly.

If I could nitpick one thing about the Host that I didn't like based on personal preference (major spoiler),
Spoiler

I didn't like how he was always holding out for Lou-ge. It's been over a decade. He very obviously likes 061. He very obviously is liked in return. But despite everything he still refuses anything that's not Lou-ge. By this stage, he should have moved on or at least be trying to move on. I found his loyalty, especially when he never had a relationship with Lou-ge in the first place, more annoying than sweet in the end. It made the eventual realization that 061 was Lou-ge sour. It's like he was only in love with the idea of Lou-ge, which in turn made their progress feel insincere.

[collapse]

ARC REVIEW

Arc 1: Genius Canon Fodder's Counterattack

Rich musician MC falls for a poor boy with no guts and internalized h*mophobia. The ML proceeds to isolate and manipulate him until he falls apart.

Interesting MC, arc and satisfying revenge.

Arc 2: Getting Rid Of That Bigshot

Handsome ex-model MC marries a much older, very wealthy man - outwardly a sugar baby situation. What the public doesn't know, is that the older man is a cruel, violent psychopath.

This one has some very heavy themes. The revenge definitely pays off though. This arc stuck with me.

Arc 3: Love Song on Ice

MC is a young figure skater who falls for an older figure skater who turns out to be a selfish, Green Tea bit*h type.

This has a lot in common with Yuri on Ice. The revenge is harsh and very much a 'what you put out is what you get back' thing. I felt sorry for the villain in this because of his age and immaturity. But I can't say he didn't have it coming. The real winner here though, is the relationships. One of my favorite arcs.

Arc 4: I hear I'm a Battle God

ABO with a few twists. This is a world at war and uses mechs to fight. Everyone starts as a Beta and becomes an Alpha or Omega through forced participation in a fighting tournament where they must collect qi from the other person to evolve to Alpha. The person who has their power s**ked ends up as an Omega. The Alpha go off to war and the Omega are as breakable and weak as glass, have no rights and are both seen and treated poorly. The MC has sold his body to a noble family to 'take the fall' allowing their son to evolve to Alpha. They form a relationship (Stockholm's Syndrome) that ends in unforgivable betrayal.

The suffering is even heavier than the last arc. The oML in this experiences character growth and becomes somewhat sympathetic. But the conclusion here definitely holds up where other webnovels fell. Very happy with it. Might be my favorite arc.

Arc 5: The Cycle of Karma, what goes around comes around

Nurse who can see ghosts falls for a guy who gets dragged into a Death Game system. The guy tricks him into joining the system so he can use his ability. He does worse but that's spoiler territory better left for a first read.

I looove Death Game stories. So this was an easy win for me. The revenge didn't really hit as hard as it was written. Like, technically it's the perfect revenge, but I kind of didn't feel the suffering enough and I really wanted this guy to suffer. It does, however, have a very sweet relationship and an engaging plot.

Arc 6: Raising a Big Cat in the Apocalypse

MC is ex-military in a futuristic, AI-controlled world. He gets reunited with his military lover after the AI turns the story post-apocalyptic but gets betrayed in a major, major way.

I didn't like this one, and on my second read I skipped most of it. I'm just not a huge fan of post-apocalyptic stories and find them boring. From what I read, the villain gets some heavy redemption at the end. But I didn't like him so it didn't work for me. My dislike for this arc is definitely a matter of personal taste and doesn't reflect on the quality of the story. The author put the work in and it shows. Just not for me.

Arc 7: System vs System

Cultivation. The MC is a sweet, naive merman who was the protagonist of an unfinished webnovel. His luck is stolen when he falls in love with a scum Host working for a god in charge of book transmigration.

Look, I don't like cultivation stories. You could even say I hate them with exceptions. This one passes fast enough and has enough outside of cultivation that it becomes one of those exceptions. It treads ground as an average arc for me and is boosted by a revelation we've been waiting for.

Overall, System vs System and Raising a Big Cat were the only ones I didn't really enjoy and personal taste plays a big role there. <<less

3/5 tbh I don't like it but in respect for those who gave it a high rating, I'll give it a neutral instead of lower.

Are there only 8 arcs in total or it's not yet completely translated? Anyways, I didn't like the strategies of the MC that's why I'm disappointed due to the other reviews that said that he is a genius and good at this...

Next it feels strange for me that he doesn't have a ML yet (i know 61 is the ML) but there is no romantic interaction... more>> and all he did is revenge, get hate, and etc to the target. I just think it's strange to not have love life even if just a subtle one. Not used to it. I'm sure there won't be anytime soon too.

Next the review highly praised it saying that it outshined ALL BL I've read before which I currently found insulting. I mean I've read a lot of high quality BL systems novels which are much better than this by 10 points.

L*rd G*d is also weird. Anyway non of the characters has given me any good impression. Plus why among all the former host was 61 feeling so close with the host. He manage to perfectly hold back from all former host, but why is he being unethical now? Just because he's the MC, his former friend? But he don't know since he has been restarted/reprogrammed. So not logical.

All I can say it, I had high hopes due to the reviews but not I'm leaving with regret and disappointment. Gonna drop it now, dunno if I'll pick it up again one day but prolly not.

this is by FAR the best transmigration story ive seen. Not only cause of the amazing characters, plot, and humor, but also by the way it completely wrecks and destroys the tropes of its genre. Oh no im set to be disgraced and screwed over by this person?? Forget trying to kiss up to them and curry favour, chi xiaochi will help you formulate the most beautiful and sadisfying revenge plan to rid of this scum.

The MC is seriously a genius. Have I mentioned that he is a genius? Not... more>> in an academic (even though he is) kind of way but in an understanding the situation and able to formulate strategies and improvise kind of way. Watching him work his magic around horrible scenerios itself is fascinating.

Next is the comedy. While the heavy action happens on the outside, inside the body, the MC and system have the most hilarious dialogs. I simply love their relationship, and you can clearly see it develop.

Anyway, I can't possibly leave out this review without praising its awesome plot. Or should I say plots. Seriously every single one of the worlds he has travelled to is good enough to stand as a novel on its own but put together? You get the masterpiece that is dpubfttb. All of the worlds are unique, and stories incredibly different (goes to show mc's adaptability too O_O). I cannot stress this fact enough, but really, this novel contains some next level world building.

11/10 in enjoyment for me <<less

Anyone who gave this masterpiece less than a 5 star rating... meet me outside of Denny's.
This is basically just therapy where the wonderful, strong, amazing, MC shows people who have been used and abused their worth... and how they can stand up and fight back.

And omg, don't get me started on how soft the romance is. Like I don't even need a romance for such an excellent story but the author knows how to spoil us. Amazing amazing.... AMAZING story, don't miss out.

Editing to add: if you have ever read a story where the MC ends up with the previously abusive ML, you must do penance and read this novel. This calls out abuse for what it is. I love that there the MC is supposed to cause regret by dying tragically or whatever, but he's smart enough to realize that the best regret for as*hole is when they rue the day they met you. The arcs are sometimes hard to read, but once you get to the end, all you feel is peace and satisfaction. Thank you author and translator!!

I haven't gotten very far in yet, so I'll hold onto the hope that this novel will evolve into the mind-blowing story that other reviews praise it to be.

But so far, MC is nauseatingly Mary Sue. To be fair, I have an inherent disdain for OP characters and prefer my protagonists to be flawed & multifaceted. But then stuff like this happens, and I feel like I'm not the problem:

Spoiler

In chapter 13, an auntie from the family of the character that MC inhibited made him suan cai yu/sour fish soup. Then immediately, MC insists on paying back the favour as a way for author to show off his cooking skills. So he goes into the kitchen, and immediately whips out some braised chicken with mushrooms, supposedly in under ten minutes. Think about this for a second. Everyone's already seated at dinner and eating, who on earth would get up in the middle of a meal to cook another dish?! Also clearly the author's never cooked, because there's no way you can make that dish in such a short amount of time, unless you have everything specifically set up like a line cook station.

Sure, it's a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but consistently reading stuff like this is like sitting next to a friend who constantly flexes or humble-brags when no one's asking. It's annoying.

Not to mention, the narrative is seriously classist. Other comments point out how great it is that author tackles social issues like BLM in next arc, but how's the author gonna look down on poor people in the same breath?

I don't like Yang Baihua either, but you gotta admit, being poor weighs down on you and it's valid for him to constantly stress over it. Of course, it's natural for MC's family (in this task) to dislike Yang Baihua for being poor, since they're quite upper class. It'd be OOC for them to think otherwise. But when the novel's predicated on being morally righteous and socially aware, it's hypocritical to consistently shame someone's socio-economic standing through omniscient narration.

But since I'm only one arc in, there's still plenty of time to change my opinion.

This is an absolute gem of a novel that starts off fun and engaging and ends up absolutely heart breaking. But don't worry, by the time you're done reading it you'll be thanking the author for all the abuse.

The MC, Chi Xiaochi, is by far one of the most well fleshed out and human characters I've ever had the pleasure to get to know. The process of seeing first off only his qualities, but then little by little prying into the darker corners that show just how very messed up... more>> he is was done chillingly well. In truth, you only TRULY know the person you've been following this entire time at the very end.

All in all, it is not an easy read. The novel deals with very heavy subjects, and thankfully they are not trivialized at all. This means, however, that we're forced to confront some very horrible realities. But, at least in my opinion, the ending is very cathartic for all the suffering our leads are forced to go through, and I ended the reading experience with only good things to say about it. <<less

Repetitive arcs. The system acts as a deux ex machina solution.

MC says he will live like the original person/body that he possesses to "show them how" to turn their life around. But he uses the system to get around things that regular humans do not have access to.

Story 5/5, TL 5/5

Saw a reviewer stating that this story is life-changing, genre-changing novel and they're right. Never been a big fan of fast wear having read several other popular ones like FOD but DPUBFTTB is fast wear novel done right!

I could never get into FOD as I felt their romance to be shallow and expected- Each arc is like a formulaic repetition of the previous. DPUBFTTB is different even though it follows the same precedent of revenge fast wear novels where the MC have to dish out 'retribution' to... more>> every scum gongs. However the MC's methods aren't overly crude, he considers the motives of all the party involved and plays the long game. There's a touch of humanity in every arc that is missing in other fast wear stories. The focus isn't wholly on face slapping/revenge. The trivial interactions w other minor characters and how the plot change would affect them, made every arc more believable and real. Initially I wasn't too convinced by the ML as he is a system after all, however I soon changed my mind as their backstory gets unravelled bit by bit. The MC and ML's interaction feels warm and heartbreaking at the same time as they have no idea of each other's real identity.

A must read, esp for ppl who have tried this genre before and did not like it- you might change your mind just as I did. <<less

Don't Pick Up Boyfriends from the tr*sh Bin is my favorite webnovel to-date (and I've been reading webnovels daily since 2019 and have probably read around 100 of them by now, if not more). There are so many things that I love about this but I'll try to keep my review the shortest possible.

This webnovel also has one of my favorite webnovel MCs. It's very rare for me to love characters. Almost 95% of the time, I will complete a story without really connection with any of the characters. That... more>> doesn't make the story uninteresting per se but it's also true that I find most characters to be forgettable. Chi Xiaochi is one of the very rare MCs that I really grew to love and sympathize with.

More often than not, characters in webnovels don't really have that much substance to them. They feel very 2D or as if they're cut from similar molds. That is why I think the characterization in DPUBFTB shines through compared to its counterparts. It's not just MCs either. The original hosts and the scum characters all have some kind of depth to them and actually feel like they can be real people instead of just characters you just read in a book.

This is also one of the rare quick transmigration novels that will feel novel even after reading so many stories in the same genre. At some points, all QT novels just merged together in my head and it's hard to unravel them from that tangle but this is different since the MC handles his transmigration very differently and raises the question about the morality of the actions that transmigrators do while being uncaring about the intentions of the original owners of the body they're residing in.

If there is anything for me to really critique in this novel, it's the ML and the main antagonist. In comparison to the MC, I think the ML lacks character depth. He's almost like a white moonlight kind of character. It's a bit funny that there is a reviewer here who says that the MC is Mary Sue when in fact, it's really the ML who is Mary Sue-like.

As for the main antagonist, they just aren't interesting enough. However, do note that the MC has to deal with a lot of other scum in the different worlds he traverses in and those scum (as well as the canon fodder) definitely make up for the lack of depth in the main antagonist.

Lastly, this is indeed a novel where the MC does mundane things every now and then but I do think that brings it more charm and realism. For instance, if the MC just chooses to sit down and drink a cup of tea out of seemingly nowhere, then it's jarring. For this specific novel, these scenarios are mean to show the passage of time as well as a method to introduce to the readers the MC's past experiences in a smooth process. Overall though, if face slapping is the only thing you want from this kind of novel, you might indeed get bored but if you want something that has more emotional depth and great characterization but a bit less action, then I'd really recommend this novel. <<less

I love this novel a whole lot. Usually in novels like these, you get MCs with a high IQ who are able to puzzle their way through and out of problems. It's not very often that you get an MC with a very high EQ like Chi Xiaochi - and that's probably the main selling point of this novel. Chi Xiaochi knows how people work, and he treats everyone whose lives he touches with care, respect, and quiet empathy. It's a refreshing departure from trying to keep up with the... more>> reasoning of self-proclaimed 200 IQ protagonists and their improbable conclusions (looking at you, The Earth is Online).

Now, I would give this book 5 stars if I could - the characters are very lovable and their growth feels fleshed out, the worlds are sturdy and (for the most part) well-built, and the progression of the relationship between the MC and ML feels natural right now. But I do have to deduct 1 star for one highly, highly improbable world setting focused around cancer cells which made me simultaneously laugh and cringe so hard every time I tried to get through the increasingly ridiculous explanation that I had to put it down for a couple of weeks. It also didn't help that I was learning about cancer at the time too. But, credit where credit's due - even in those 2 weeks I couldn't get it out of my head, so I s**ked it up, got past the initial explanation chapter and then summarily ignored it for the rest of that particular setting.

I have seen complaints where the MC feels too OP, but honestly? To me, it doesn't feel that way. I think Chi Xiaochi's resolve is reasonable and understandable, and this strength of resolve is what allows him to succeed where others before him failed. His emotional intelligence is also a big part of what gets him through, and it's also a major part of his character - he is able to understand people and their actions fundamentally. He also has many fears and flaws, and I admire that a lot about him for being able to acknowledge and grow past them.

All in all - if you like any or all of the following: devoted love interests, emotional intelligence, a well-fleshed out cast of characters who each grow and mature, revenge, and insubordination against oppression, then I think you'll like this novel very much, so please do give it a shot. <<less
