It really made my cry, it was a bitter-sweet as other reviewers said, but it was worth it to read this novel.

ML actually did nothing wrong, is just that the MC didn't give a ML a chance to save her, while MC only thinking how to help ML in any possible way.

I love the ending, after many years of fake taoists come and go, only the Reverend Tai Xu make a way, even with out doing nothing like ceremonies or offerings. He was such a kind person, helping a person... more>> and a soul to reunite. Well, most readers love to read a happy ending even the story made us cry. The part that I love most was Chapter 2; The 1st time ML see MC after her death, in the river where lanterns float and the banquet, when a princess seduce the ML, well it was actually seduce because the princess was passable in damcing but still dance just to show how delicate she was, additional the voice and timid and weak image, really act of seduce. In the end, good for that fake lotus.

ML lines:

"But I fear my empress will be wronged"

"As long as the emperor is An Zi Wu, the empress shall forever be Sang Ge. Should anyone want to enter the back palace, in accordance to the rules of the imperial family, first go ahead and ask the empress for her consent." <<less

i find that these short stories are actually the most touching ones.

The story is told from the FL‘s point of view who watches over her husband after sacrificing herself for him. At first she is rather clueless regarding how much he or she herself feels for the other. But the emotions from both sides were very heart breaking for me. The story reminded me of the novel „Unrepentant“ however the ending is very different.

I think the line that underlined ML's love for Sang Ge was "As long as the emperor is An Zi Wu, the empress shall forever be Sang Ge."

But I think that what really showed the grief of loss and regret that outlined the story was "You didn't even give me the chance to save you."

Such a poignant story. The ratings are so well-deserved.

I Really love this novel though short it's really beautifully written and will make you cry. I usually avoid tragedies cause I cry easily but I thought I would give it a chance. All I can say is I have no regrets reading it. The MC and ML love was so painful. The ML realised how much she meant all too late. The MCs death could have been avoided but I think that was the best option for everyone at the time. It must have been so painful for both... more>> of them. The endings pretty open but satisfying it leaves it to your imagination to imagine if they met or if they didn't. Its one of the best tragedies out there, if you ask me. I felt slightly depressed after reading it. I needed to read something fluff to be able to sleep after. <<less

Its truly a beautiful and tear jerker story. The story of the life after the dead is something I rarely read, and the author really did a great job in it. I am hooked by the braveness of the protagonist, her 'severe attachment', and the faithfullness of the husband even after she died. Its a late-realizing romance for him. It leaves me a bittersweet feelings and is a nice ride.

Love it. The MC unrequited love becoming mutual love after watching him all this time, seeing his devotion and longing for her. Almost cried in some chapters, though for the rest I did cry. Love this novel.

This novel just tugs are the heartstrings, as you continue to read you can feel the pain from both sides. It may be short but the read is worth it, there are no grandiose words and scenes. Every word written is on point and clear to the reader.

Before reading this, I had already steeled myself I wasn't going to cry. Chapters 1-3 didn't make me even a bit melancholic. While I do sympathise with the Emperor, but it was nothing more. Even the first parts of Ch. 4. Well, things like that happen a lot in fiction after all.

What broke me down was the last line.

Spoiler

I'd already expected he would die. But the last line, imo, those last words held all the weight and emotions that albeit indirectly a happy end, made the whole story more poignant and beautiful. While it was still highly clichéd, I'm still one who falls for it. Really good! I have nothing but praise.

I think the author did a superb job and would not discredit someone for thinking this is a masterpiece. The characters are well developed and its obvious that they grew with each other while having to be patient at the same time for that to happen. Everything is thought out and has a purpose while not being explicit to the reader. It’s a beautiful romance that touches the characters deeply and makes the reader emphasize. They do all that in 4 chapters!!

That being said, I didn’t particularly enjoy this. I... more>> rate it 5 stars because of how quality this is and not on how it made me feel. Just like any true artwork, it doesn’t need external validation to be incredible. I felt the romance was shared between the characters but it remained mysterious to us outsiders (readers). That is amazing in itself but I wanted to know more! I wanted to know the details of their first meeting, how they got married, how she fell in love, how he felt when he lost her (his pov), when he realized he loved her, I wanted it all! /Spoiler

It felt very nostalgic but inaccessible at the same time. Like a friend recounting something while staring off in the distance. You want to ask for more but respect their space. Gosh, its frustrating! I’m also not saying it needs to be longer but believe its perfect as is. This is definitely a piece of art, and if you take into account its based of the mythical and mysterious song dynasty, it blows you away! I just have to warn those who are like me: busybodies beware!! <<less

Alright I found this story to be a little sad, I would definitely recommend it, for a good short romance read. Sorry the review doesn't have much substance, nothing I can really say, but I would recommend it for people who like romance.

The translation is superb. It felt like I was reading poetry, enitrely romantic. The story is just a classic "you don't know what you had until you lose it" so throughout the story I wasn't exactly impressed much. Maybe if there was more background to the story or attachment to the characters, I could've felt a pang or two in my heart. There was even a point when I looked in disdain at the ML sacrificing his life and happiness for mourning and grieving his lose. It's a very one-dimensional,... more>> narrow-minded view point of life, which is why such stories never hit my heart. Life has much to offer, yet he forbade himself from even the basic happy moments of an ordinary human. Friends, a partner, children, glad-tidings etc., these are all necessary in a person's life, yet he could spend ten years with just mourning one person? I don't buy it. I keep imagining what would've happened had he married that pretty girl, had he given himself another chance, but fiction is filled with disdain towards people who move on from the MC. <<less

Rather short and concise, it sets out to do one thing and does it. I will say, the ending
Spoiler

if it was any real would be more tragic than if the MC had actually turned into a ghost. Just a broken man exploited of his spiritual wants, eventually gets conned into killing himself. The new emperor should start imprisoning the Taoist priest and executing him for tempting the old emperor into su*cide.

A very tragic heartwarming love-story that manages to pull your heartstrings.

the beauty of this story cannot be put into words, oh gosh, how much how loved it. When she thinks he is cold-hearted towards her and does not love her enough and when she personally gets to experience how much he actually loved her, maybe more so than she did.

I've read the author's novel Seven Unfortunate Lifetime last night and really loves her writing so I am willingly read her other works. This is the most short novel I've read in Novelupdates.

Although this one is also falls to a tragedy genre just like SUL but this one actually has a very sad tone meanwhile the SUL is more light and funnier.

I can imagine this one to be adapted to a movie.. Although it kind of somber one.

I honestly thought that Sang Ge might be transmigrated but nope, the author... more>> chose her to be a ghost. An attached one. I thought she couldn't reincarnate because An Zi Wu attachment to her, turn out it's the other. She attached to An Zi Wu. Well, both are attached to each other.

And honestly I can't feel their deep love for each other because on 1st chapter Sang Ge monolog explain that her husband is not in love with her so when I read the rest where An ZinWu cannot move on, I was sceptical that it was guilt on him, not love. Well I guess it both.

I wish that she could wrote more flash back about how in love they are to each other. Their background story is a lil bit weak so I can't fully accept there is a man who felt so much guilty to the woman who he rarely met for 10 decades of marriage. If this was a reality, he will long have a consorts and lots of children despite his love and guilt toward her.

So, for me this one is only a fairy tale. His love and dedication for her is just a fairy tale. And so I didn't feel a thing, I expect to cry but nope. It's too short and too unrealistic for me. But I give 3.5 stars regardless because it was actually a beautifully written by my fave author. <<less
