Story Rating: 2.5/5

Translation Rating: 5/5

Pros:

- Fast pace.

- Writing is good as it leaves the readers mysteries to solve, unlike most reincarnation stories. It’s the reason why I continued on reading.

Cons:

- Characters aren’t attractive:

death in her previous life because she committed su*cide

[collapse]
honestly doesn’t make her attractive. I can’t see any principles which she stands on. (including the male lead).

It is more like the both of the characters consistently followed their emotions instead of their rationality.

2. Male lead: I don’t think he deserves a second chance. I do like reading possessive Male lead type of stories but I would prefer the Male lead here to suffer the consequences of his actions. It is as if the plot was made to give him a second chance.

Personally, I don’t see character growth from the characters. The reason why stories about reincarnation are appealing is because of the “chance” for character growth and maturity.. but in this story, I don’t see that happening. The Male lead is still the same. The female lead is also as stubborn as before.

It made me think, “what’s the point?”

So yeah... 2.5 rating from me. *shrugs <<less

I dare say that not only is he manipulative but he is also quite unreliable for a supposedly very competent emperor. a mere rumour is enough for him to drive his wife to her demise? small d*ck energy. plus when FL was determined to leave him (due to the fact that she don’t want to get entangled with him anymore) he guilt tripped her by bringing her to her son. I don't understand why this novel have a very low rating. It could be, because it is not long winded and just got on with the story as it is. This is a transmigration novel. Our MC is the former empress and now has transmigrated to a Divine Doctor's apprentice. I like the MC as she is not a pushover and very intelligent. What I like about it is that it does not go on and on or it does not make every scenario as an arc. It is concise... more>> way of telling a very complicated story, or instead of churning out over thousands of chapters. For this alone I am highly recommending it if you just want a quick read and very enjoyable short romance novel. <<less

Overall, not a bad read if you like rebirth/reunion-after-separation stories.

Pretty surprised because I expected this novel to be much worse because of the rating (3.6), since awful novels like [Chongfei Manual] get 4+ ratings.

For a shorter story, the pacing was well done, it didn't feel very short at all, and the relationship between the main characters progressed very naturally. None of the characters did anything that was overly grating or s*upid or annoying. Some reviewers greatly dislike the ML, and yes, his suffering isn't the focus of the story, but... more>> I thought he did his penance...

Spoiler

of 6 years of blindness/pining/regret.

[collapse]

Perhaps I have a soft spot for this genre because I thought it was pretty realistic for a powerful/wealthy/handsome guy like the ML...

Spoiler

to have been married previously and had a kid, instead of being some pure guy who's never fallen in love before and suddenly falls for the MC in most of these kinds of stories.

[collapse]

So it was nice to take a break from all of those "first-loves" stories out there and read about a reunion instead.

I also liked that the author didn't info-dump us from the start and chose a good time to reveal the mysteries behind the characters to keep the tension and curiousity fresh.

Regarding the lack of character development: honestly, I've almost never seen any significant character development in these types of historical novels, especially in stories 5-20x this length. Character development happens when characters go through hardship, make mistakes, or have to change their stance on things... which CNovel MC & MLs rarely go through. They usually beat their enemies quite simply. I think it would make more sense to complain about that in those much longer stories than in a short story like this one.

Not to mention, there is actually some character development in this story.

Spoiler

For example, despite seeing his lover being hugged by the villain and the villain trying to make him suspect her, the ML immediately shows his trust for her by not doubting her at all. This scene was intentionally added by the author to show us how the ML had grown after making that horrible mistake before.

The villain also changed through his internal dialogue in the end where he exposes his internal thoughts and wishes for the MC to live happily.

I stopped reading due to my frustration with the main characters. The ML is a scumbag who does not deserve a second chance, and the MC is a fool to forgive him. Edit: As an aside, the translation was well done.

This is an okay read. I did feel the ML's love for MC. I really did. But it lost a star because I felt he was so... useless.

Spoiler

He stole MC away from his brother. MC was the fiancee of his ninth brother but ML fell in love with her and stole her and have her as his wife. He didn't care about the people's opinion and didn't even care his father, the then emperor, acolded him. He wanted her so he stole her and married her. The only way for them to get married was that ML had to allow women to enter his harem. He agreed but only pampered and loved his wife.

And here's why I think he's useless. First of all, he got schemed and thought that his wife cheated on him and the father of her baby was his brother. Which got into more fights leading MC to commit su*cide.

Second, he actually gave the emperor title to his 6 year old son. Boy, I kniw you sad but dude he's young, he can't handle that much!

Third, when MC finally appeared and the concubine tried to scheme against her, ML only knew she schemed but he never did anything to her. He couldn't dismiss her because apparently she had great status and it would cause bad rep if he did dismiss her as concubie. BUT REMEMBER, HE STOLE HIS OWN BROTHER'S FIANCEE AND DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES. This is just....

Well at least in the end, the concubine got puniahed because her sins were discovered but really... I only felt ML's love but in terms of protecting her and his son, he sucks at it.

[collapse]

But I do still think it's still a good book. The cute little bun and the loving ML. MC is pretty knowledgeable too! I feel sorry for ninth prince but it was his neglect and arrogance that cause MC to not have feelings for him. <<less

It's really early to review but.. I like it so.

Bai Qingqing 's legendary master took her as a disciple after quitting medicine. She is smart, outspoken and says it like it is.

Prime minister asked the legendary master to come treat the 7th prince's blindness, but he sent his disciple instead.

... more>> She gets mocked bec. Of her coarse clothes, she is seen as a country bumpkin. However she outsmarts all shallow people.

The prime minister gradually develops trust in her as she treats his migrane that other doctors haven't been able to, and servants gradually start to respect her as she treats their illnesses as well.

He takes a liking to her and decided to take her to the 7th Prince. Who seems hopeless about curing his blindness.

Heroine taunts him which results in him betting with her: if she can cure him within a month, he'll do what she wants and if she can't then her life is his.

So far I really like her personality and the Prince who seems to be hopeless yet not wishy washy.

I feel bad for him and it seems like she will bring back his fighting spirit and seems like she knew him from before. And he has been a snob to her?because she demands if she won the bet, then he owes her an apology. <<less

I feel complicated about this novel because of ML. He is so childish.

Spoiler

First, he robbed his brother's fiancee but then he felt insecure about it. He always wondered if his wife still loved his brother. In the end, he still couldn't trust her and even could be provoked easily by third party. The result was: he successfully drove her so called beloved wife to her demise.

[collapse]

Well, he indeed suffered a lot for 6 years after her death but his action in those years still angered me a lot.

Spoiler

If he really regretted his action towards MC, shouldn't he raise their son as good as possible? But no, he negleted him because he couldn't face him who looks like her mother a lot. And he even forced him to ascend the throne at the age of 6 and he himself retreats to countryside to continue his self pity.

[collapse]

But to be fair, MC has her fault too. She never stated clearly about her past relationship with ML's brother and also her real feelings. That also worsen ML's insecurity.

As for ML's brother, his ending is kinda sad but I don't pity him.

Spoiler

He's the kind of man who enjoys bullying the woman he loves (just like his brother, he's also childish). He says he loves MC but he still gone in and out from brothel during their engagement. He says he loves her but he indirectly also drove MC to her death. He even tried to kill MC's son through her brother's hand. His love is kinda bu**sh*t for me.

[collapse]

And also, don't blame MC for forgiving ML so easily. Love is blind after all. At least ML changes to be a better person and now he could trust and love MC wholeheartedly. <<less

I really liked the premise, but not the execution. I liked that our FL was super sassy and appeared ignorant. I liked the FL and Ml's bickering and bantering but once we know what happened btw them (in the past), the story did not go how I wanted it to.

Spoiler

Turns out the FL lead was the ml's ex-wife that had passed away.

[collapse]

I would have definitely wanted our ML to suffer more for his actions. And he did a lot of things that I hate.

Spoiler

He lied to our FL that he killed their son leading her to kill herself. Then proceed to neglect their son for a while and only went back to dote on his son to appease the fl. What a shitty father and husband! I felt so sorry for their 6 year old son. Who, he made emperor so he can be happy with the fl. Smh

[collapse]

The FL was way too forgiving. For me personally, I would forgive but never forget. Would never had gone back to him. <<less

Honestly, this is one of the best second chance stories on the site. The translator also did an excellent job. I know someone may think that MC does not deserve a second chance, but the point is that MC pays a heavy price, and FL forgives him, what’s more, FL still loves MC. That’s the point. The pace is really fast. It seems that FL's death is not only because of the stubbornness of MC but other's conspiracy.

Love? Forgiveness? Bitterness? Sweetness? It had all of the above. Both sides took their share of the blame. Both sides learned to move on. And I got a d*mn good story in the process ?

It's missing a star because while it was a page turner, it felt like the characters were lacking. I barely gave two f*cks about the FL and ML's past drama. Both of these idiots were too young and hotheaded. The end.

though ML is a scumb@g for believing the lies of the others than her he did deserve a second chance because he repent when the original body of FL died. I really like the pace of this novel. It is good and fast. I can see the plot development in every chapter, which is rarely seen in the same type. The male leader is also a good character. He is a loving person and deserves a chance to amend his ways. Although Bai Qingqing hates Zhao Yuchen for what he has done, she begins to forgive him. I expect that they can reconcile with each other. Obviously, in Bai Qingqing’s heart, she still love Zhao Yuchen.

I like this short story. I am happy that the ML Zhao Yuchen and the FL Bai Qinqin can have a second chance to change the past. Sometimes, we need to believe our lover. Or we would regret what we have done for the rest of life. In this way, the ML may not love the FL very much, because he chooses to disbelieve her in the past. If you love a person, please choose to believe her.

This is a short novel, but it contains rich contents, such as rebirth, conspiracy. It tells a complete story in only 39 chapters. So, its plot development is fast, which is the biggest advantages of this book. Moreover, the plot is reasonable. If you want to enjoy a not-bad romantic story in a short time, this book definitely is the first choice.
