In the first part of the story its a bit of slow progress but the plot and character build up is good... but later on when the story progress it suddenly got a bit hasty like the author would like the story end so rushing everything and making the story a bit unsatisfying when the story end I feel like theres still more to it... and it left a bitter taste for me because I guess the story end shortly but well overall the novel is fun to read and... more>> a good way to waste your time. Thanks to the author and translator for this good story. 4star thumbs up <<less

My problem with this novel is that it is very formulaic. Every arc will have a damsel in distress and every arc will follow a similar pattern. The more I read, the more I lost interest in the crimes and the antagonists... I would give this a 2.5 but since I can't I'll just go with a 3. I'm really disappointed, the concept intrigued me so much... I want to finish God of Crime but I just need to take a break from it.

MC has a mirror given by the Death/something/someone, which he uses to see the abilities that he learned, similar to a game profile. MC is using his knowledge about the future to catch some killers and try to discover who framed him.

It is still too early to know how the story is going to develop, but this have a incredible potential.

It's hard to get into it, it's written with a bit of a funny humor but then goes dark real quick then go back on s*upid shenanigans again, there's no rest and there's no focus either. There's quite a lot of frustrating plotlines, it could be just simple but intentionally written in a way that will make it complicated for the readers. This is a very unsatisfying read for me although it's not really bad.

This is one of the best novels with an "evil" MC that I've read. The ending is really rushed, the first time I read it I had to go back and make sure I didn't skip any chapters because it was so sudden. There isn't any romance in it at all contrary to what you'd think with the MCs personality but that leaves more room for the MC to think up his plots. The characters were all very in depth and I ended up enjoying shipping the MCs sister and... more>> the police uncle almost as much as I enjoyed reading the story. It's honestly such a fun idea, I love it! <<less

I really liked this novel. Part from reading it, this reminds me of Detective Conan with his gadgets and crime that are quite interestingly done. But the MC has a more advance skill set.

I've learned some things while reading this novel and how vast the world really is. This do tackle on some true stories that really are happening in the world aside from the supernatural skill the MC has.

Really a must read. If your into crimes, detectives, supernatural skills, suspense, etc. Trust me.

The MC is cruel and ruthless to himself and his enemies. There is very little romance in the story - some dates with different women. This novel just purely focuses on how Seo Tae-hyuk (MC) deals with criminals with the aid of a system while barely managing his school life. It's been years since I've read this novel but if you are looking for a medium-length novel based on a lone wolf MC finding criminals in a modern world and not expecting much romance, this is it.

Spoiler

Through the use of the system, he can choose to use the points to increase his strength, intelligence, dexterity, etc. There is also a status system: Commoner > Noble > King > God of Crime

With the knowledge of future criminals who will appear, he wrote their names and speciality down, giving himself a book of targets for him. I like the use of disguises which came from the skills he had mastered and how he met walks a really fine line between the police and criminals. He gave me the impression of [Kaitou Kid] without the use of performing magic tricks or stealing gems.

[collapse]

The only pity I have is that the author did not continue describing how he manages to capture the other 100+ criminals on his book and did not express who he is dating. He/She seriously just summarize all of them in a single chapter, after a time skip of 10 yrs. (ಥ﹏ಥ)

It is a decent read but rushed when it was around chapter 110-120, kinda obvious how everything drops on the MC's lap. Lots of details aren't even mentioned and just blazed through plot. Also, there are quiet a few plot holes and one of the most lacking thing was character development of people in the novel.

***The most annoying or absurd is how the MC takes lives, including innocent victims in his plan is just brushed aside, there is no proper process for this development [thoughts] at all.... [The author... more>> explains this but it's all rushed for the ending]****

People shows up only when MC needs them otherwise they don't exist outside of it. Well, so far I have seen his brother pop up maybe few lines lool and similarly any other characters introduced are just talked about only when MC exists [maybe a few exceptions here and there but the world revolves around MC]

Anyway, if you have nothing to read then you can go ahead and read it to pass time but don't expect any deep plots, any plot that seemed really interesting or of interest from beginning just fizzled out lool

Note/TLDR: The novel was rushed or felt like it, so much possibilities but it was an okay read, I ended up skimming few chapters after chapter 130 or so <<less

An exceptionally good start. Gets you hooked pretty much to the point where you read 10-20 chapters a day initially.

However I think the writer felt lazy, as nearing the end, the writer just wanted to end it, rather than exploring many different scenarios he had initially offered.

Prologue is something very similar to most of the web novels I have read... The MC gets sent back in time, gets some cheats he can use... faces opponents who keep on getting strong, and the MC is always slightly stronger.

I deducted one star... more>> for the ending it received as the writer nearly gave the worst case ending here.

Good story bad ending, but will get you hooked. Good novel if interested in small ones, and you can leave the last few chapters 12 to be exact out of the 165, i.e. stop at 153 and imagine your own ending.... Trust me, you will like it. <<less

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Firstly, the translation quality and language/vocabulary was masterfully used, as expected of a novel hosted on WuxiaWorld. Minimal typos and mostly perfect grammar make for an easy and enjoyable read. About the actual story, I can't say too much because I feel like I really can't express my respect for it enough with just my vocabulary and writing skill. It's told in a remarkable way, and although there are some dubious points in the plot, please keep in mind that this is indeed a fictional tale, so the author should be given a measure of leeway. The criminal aspect of this was incredibly well written and the character development was done extremely well for those characters that were relevant to the storyline. For me, who has read many novels here on novelupdates that surpass the 500+ chapter mark, this seemingly short 164-chapter story about the 'God of Crime' has become one of my top 3 favorite novels in terms of plot development and creativity. I read through it in every spare moment I had, and finished it across a span of three to four days. Not only is the concept refreshingly unique, the main character is charismatic and can draw you in even when you can clearly understand that some of the things he does is (idk if this is really a spoiler but when I started reading, I went into this without reading any hints about what I was getting into, so if you want the same experience, maybe don't open the spoiler?)
Spoiler

extremely criminal and should never be attempted.

but it all accumulates into an incredible story that will literally give you goosebumps.

I apologize for the long and enthusiastic rant, and I can only excuse myself by saying this: I only wrote so much because the quality of this novel could move me to this extent. I hope you can find as much worth in this novel as I did.

The core of each arc is constantly repeated until the very end: potential love interests that are always beautiful females, situations/criminals that somehow magically always involve the MC/his family/the detective he's close with, constantly gaining new crime abilities, progression into a true criminal mindset as the MC increasingly becomes more dark and more willing to do crimes/activities he originally was so against. The romance is poor, the plot is constantly repeated, and the final arcs seem rushed.

The first half of this novel is superb and definitly worth 5*, but the second half just feels rushed and clumsy, as if the author had to finish in 30 chapters. He stopped utilizing a lot of things he set up before and gives a deeply unsatisfying end so I can only give 1* star. In total its worth a read, but dont expect much after chapter 100.

"What is the essence of a criminal?"

What is the fine line between one who catches criminals and the criminals themselves?? I quite enjoyed this novel... clever MC, the crime skills were always interesting and he never forgot to use them to his advantage, and how along with the MC the reader looks into the minds of criminals and some interesting cases.

Quite good except for the characters who are just plain. If you have read enough Korean novels, you will be able to recognize from which novel each characters is based off... (big sis & detective = mom and detective in Ark)

As a good point, I think that the plot is pretty unique? : It's in a modern setting, they are people dying (they are not all saved by OP MC), he acts like a detective but with some 'crime' powers, at some point he is trying to use his... more>> powers to gain money although he still won't let people die, his knowledge of the future is not too OP : can't know who the criminals that weren't caught in the past...

Sadly, the origin of his power is pretty much overlooked (though it allows the story to advance that way), he is orphan and poor like almost every MC in Korean novels, though passerbys can die those related to MC some way or another have plot armor. <<less

It's complete at 164 chapters. You could binge it without worry. Mostly because it's an alright read.

props to the translator who released the latter half of the chapters within a week.

I won't say much besides that it's pretty good. At some points it will seem lighthearted and you'd be put off-guard and then it will suddenly hit you with serious crime cases. Things are never easy for the protagonist but are never impossible. You'd think 'How the heck is he gonna solve this?' and Boom. He does it.... more>> It's crimes are fun to read about and his skills are fun to get to know. I won't say the novel is unique but there aren't many that follow the same type of story. You may be put off by the fact that as it goes on it does seem repetitive and the latter half of the novel progresses surprisingly fast. The story would be much better if it was paced better, everything occurs pretty much in a year.

'A man with memories of 14 years into the future fights criminals by becoming a criminal... and slowly becomes a devil'.

Enjoy. <<less

From this review you will only learn 2 points:

1-Its a 5 star novels, that everyone interested in criminal novels should read.

2- there is discrepency, after all I say it 5 star but rated 4 star. This is due to the ending were it does a complete reversal of flow from V of Vendetta with serious dark undertones to a fairy tail "Everyone live happy ever after"

Guys, the plot is slow but stick with it and it gets real interesting and I don't know the plot is fun and I really hope this thing keeping getting translated, translator you are doing God's work. Keep it up friend. Seriously give it a go, you won't regret it but don't come in expecting a revolutionary plot or something. I just like the way he goes about things. A cool MC who isn't a serial Casanova is not so bad in a genre that's plagued by the harem trope.... more>> Enjoy!!! <<less

Story wise I can't say that this novel is really that great due to some inconsistency problems (well perhaps it's due to low amount of chapters?). But for some reason it has a certain charm that really made me hooked up with GoC and always wishing to see a new update of it every time I go to it's NU page. The comedy and thrill on the novel is well balanced and seeing the interaction of MC with the other characters is quite interesting.
