My reader bells rang out after a below mediocre mini arc of treasure hunting, so I set out for discovering if something was wrong. Oh boy. 2 weives that share same body and are the same person? No painstaking even though the novel tells you it is painful? Strange, weird things that shouldn't happen if the author in question wasn't trying to implement them in the first place? IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'M the hell OOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUT.

Writing's fine, except from chapter 80 forwards? It felt like the novel suddenly realized it had no strong point... more>> in the story, and that the world building is a laughing stock so it stopped trying. I at least liked the MC of first few chapters, but then, it all went down the gutter. <<less

Final EDIT:

1 star I don't have much hope for this novel anymore. there is hope for it to be good again but I doubt it will.

The author as I said in this review before comes up with some potentially interesting arcs but keeps ruining them. I can't stand it anymore especially since I just skipped some chapters and found spoilers which annoyed the hell out of me.

Spoiler

his current two wives are the same person.... so Author is strictly making MC only have one wife

[collapse]

and he was usually good about not forgetting characters but now it seems he finally fell into most every other authors predicament making it way more generic and boring. I can see this novel being 2k-3k long but I no longer care enough to read it.

currently went to read grasping evil and that novel is like a better version of this one even though it's borderline smut.

END EDIT

Okay so this novel is weird....

out of all the novels I've read this is like a 3 but out of the xanxia's and such novels I read this is a 5. Now let me tell you why its weird.

It's like looking left and right at the same time. It has all the good and bad from other xanxia/xuanhuan novels in it. I will say its true that MC lucky chances seem to just appear which is bad... but as the story goes on it feels more like fate than luck which can be considered good.

The story is annoying as hell to me one second and the next second I'm addicted. Then annoyed etc rinse and repeat. It feels like it tries to use as many cliches as possible and then try to subvert expectations of cliches. at 812 I was honestly kind of bored of the novel for some reasons but now at 830 a plot point came up that got me excited again... which again has been my feelings throughout the novel.

Some issues are that the MC makes MC decisions that don't make a lick of sense sometimes but may make sense to others. For instance somewhere in the story there is a girl he doesn't sleep with which causes him a lot of trouble and if he slept with her all troubles could be more controlled. Some make like this because he isn't man che and doesn't sleep with everything that moves. While others like me feel like it just s*x get it over with and everything is k.

One issue I do have with this novel though is the superhero syndrome. This is common in most novels so I'm not taking a star off because of it but the MC always shows up at the last second to save that day kind of. This bugs me but again it's common I learned to stop complaining about this.

Author tries to make female lead useful in situations so I respect that, at least their not just there to give birth to MC kids and be forgotten about.

Also best girl imo gets married to MC so I'm happy about that at least otherwise I'd be annoyed. But best girl does seem to become generic afterwards which is sad.

Now you know why I said this novel is like looking left and right at the same time. Parts are good then bad then good. It's hard to describe how to feel about it but to me it can get me addicted again before I get tired of it. Which is good.

Lastly author seems to be trying different things in later chapters not just fight pills fight pills rinse and repeat.

Yes MC takes pills to cultivate but its the only path for him like it was for Meng Hao in ISSTH. I prefer that than to MC get op object and suddenly becomes a god at cultivating.

IDk beginning chapters turned me off But I enjoyed it the more I went through it. Sadly however IDK if it's because im reading the MTL but the realms kind of lose meaning right now. Hopefully they make a comeback.

EDIT:

I don't know if people will like this but if it feels like if the author can't think of a purpose to keep a character they kill them off. Which personally I like because it's better than them just being forgotten about though I can see why other may not like this.

EDIT 2:

Im on chapter 1100

Now I need to change it to the rating to a 3.

It's starting to give me the feeling of divine throne and I despise that novel. You can find my review (angry rant) on novel updates as well.

Also the MC is starting to really act like a beta Japanese MC more and more which is really getting on my nerves. He is a old monster why the hell is he freaking out over seeing a girls b**bs.... I'm going to continue reading maybe for another 200 chapters and drop it if it doesn't get better. I usually like most things on this novel but the author turned into a horn dog and keeps bringing up nothing but females who want to sleep with MC which always lead to no where and is completely pointless in most regards.

and I mean like for every other chapter it talks about how much a girl wants to sleep with him <<less

The writing itself isn't that bad but the story is awful. The coincidences are stacked up to the sky. If MC needs something you can bet he gets it in the next chapter.

Incredibly generic and phoned in.

This is what happens when someone wants to write a novel but never had a story to tell.

So they create a generic character in a generic world with a generic premise and start writing mostly nonsense and filler.

... more>> Oh my character needs pills?

Send him to the pill department?

Oh didn't think that one trough, have to say that the pill department ran out of pill for the non existent plot to move.

My character needs pills?

Send him to a town to buy some materials!

And so it goes on, without any direction or intrigue you follow a novel heavily influenced by RMJI, only without the interesting world building and the effort in setting at least the overarching arc in a satisfying direction. <<less

This novel is simple, if it's one of your first novels, you are going to like, if you are an old reader like me, just read if you don't have anything better. The plot is simple and It has a lot of fights, all the things are done in a fast way, so you don't have to wait hundreds of chapters to get it done. I enjoy, the cliché is fine, and doesn't have a lot of bullshit, the only thing that is somewhat annoying, is the MC's luck, but... more>> it probably has something to do with the main plot.

Without harém, dumb MC and r*pe = good enough to read. <<less

It's just your run-the-mill xianxia story except that it takes bullshit-tier luck to a whole other level. As other people said it in the reviews, if the MC needs something he will "coincidentally" get in the following few chapters.

The whole story is just a streak of lucky encounters one after another.

It may have been bearable at start but it quickly worsened the more the story progressed.

Heavenly beauties also started popping up around the MC left and right and all of them somehow fall in love with him. Feels like every... more>> chinese novel is filled with the deranged wet dreams of the author.

And now, he's even going to marry a 12 year old girl. Are you kidding me?

Yeah no thanks. I'm done with this. <<less

The start of this novel wasn't bad, we had a talentless nobody lucking out and getting a heaven defying treasure. Very generic, but most xianxia are.

What was interesting was the cautious and scheming protagonist who thought things through before acting. That was a breath of fresh air until it stopped around the first hundred chapters and he turned into another braindead, predictable webnovel protagonist.

So this novel has arrogant young masters running around insulting and attacking the MC with him mostly pussing out because he doesn't want things to go to... more>> far, yet it always does. Him pocking his nose where it doesn't belong and interfering with affairs that put his life in danger, when he is so cautious in dealing with his own enemy. People betraying him and him helping them in return, and so much more.

On the other hand, the writing style is somewhat different, the translation great, and the pacing isn't half bad. Personally, I would recommend reading in small doses and not binging cause it would turn you off. Read around 250 chapters before it wore me out. <<less

A damn good novel a shame not many people know about it a story about a little guy with no talent or family trying to make a living on the cultivation world with no plot armor. I fact people that act like morons in this novel showing off end getting killed and so far MC is being smart and keeping his head down.

Now, you are wondering, what really makes this series different from other Xuanhuan... I'll tell you.. it's mainly the pacing. In 200 chapters, we got through what would take other series over 1000... plus, while there are some people picking fights for pretty much no reason, it's not AS prevalent... mainly cause there is a ton less filler and less of the plot being dragged out...

200 chapters, and already there were many areas and many plot points visited.. this quick pacing changes everything.

These Chinese webnovels are what some person told... more>> me is more of a 'popcorn read' meaning it's not meant to be filling but a snack... read it in small chunks and then just enjoy the updates once you are caught up.

This does have the same flaw of the MC always needing problems and always needing enemies and overly often being underestimated... but for the most part, the speed makes this problem less apparent.

One thing that disappoints me is that there seems to be over 1400+ chapters and still ongoing... but for now, at the 200 chapter mark, it seems to be fine... <<less

I liked a lot of this. I really did. But the romance part.... it's just too annoying. I'm too tilted to continue reading.

If you've read invincible, the romance is like that. Too much infuriating crap getting in the way, so I started skimming forward, and I realized I wasn't even 1/4th way through the story. How??? I wish Xianxia could just stop while they're ahead and let things wrap up reasonably instead of forcing it until it devolves into garbage.

YOU WANT FEEDBACK? READ MY NAME AND YOU'LL KNOW THE STORY (no kissing scene till the end) (holding hands and the MC already thinking he'll have 1 dozen of children) the author perhaps a stalker in real life that even stepping on shadow of a lady, he thinks he already become a dad. Yeah the MC shows he needs to be a eunuch in order to be on the top of cultivation. He was afraid of a girls that might ruin his fame and trample his character being a... more>> eunuch. The title should be a Eunuch King that have a lot of Women around him. <<less

the MC is so lucky that the plot becomes nonsense, I really want to know why the author is so adamant on giving MC a mediocre talent, whats the point? He just go walk a bit and then some coincidences happens, lucky chance everywhere

easy to read easy to forget with nothing standing out as memorable other than the chicken; just your usual author self-insert wish fulfillment novel. 100c is too soon to talk about plot holes but the MC has already done (or not done) several things that make me scratch my head in confusion.
Spoiler

he doesn't even try to find his friends body or even go to the cliff he was kicked down. Yes, later the author says he was kicked down into a river but the MC didn't know that there was a river to take his friend away because he never went looking; he just made an empty grave on the word of some guy he's never met and left it at that.

I also don't understand why he bothered to return to a sect that treated him like disposable tr*sh, tried to kill him, and already considered him dead when he could have found a better sect and entered as an ordinary disciple with his cultivation. I know he felt a sect was safer with his cultivation level but why return to a place that treats him like sh*t when there are other options?

[collapse]

as for the MC, I find him frustrating and bordering on the Japanese beta stereotype at times. His ungodly luck and plot armor are par for the course in cultivation novels and that doesn't bug me. Its because while he is overly cautious and even clever at times, when it comes to women he's an idiot with chunni hero syndrome. This, of course, throws him directly into the dangerous situations he was trying to avoid but that's OK because, well, she has b**bies. I swear I can hear his brain switch to off whenever a pretty female is around. So far hes spent more time flirting than with actual cultivation.

I don't know if this is harem later on or not but there are already two girls lusting after him by chapter 25 and from the other comments I read it seems like every female he meets wants to sleep with him (trigger eye-roll).

there are a few other things I don't get about his choices and overall I'd rate this a 2.5 so far (I'm rounding it up to three at the moment due to misplaced optimism, subject to change if I ever read further).

it wasn't bad till he got to the upper realm or w.e, I could accept the stuff there but when author introduced hand-phones and satellites, it just got so awful to read... I hate modern-type novels. basically it turned from a novel which the author didn't write about the xianxia trope fanning the flames into one after that point.

i would read till he goes to the holy land or whatever you want to call it, after I would see it as a ending.

2/5 stars

It's fine. Nothing special. It assumes you're already familiar with the genre.

It had a few things that could have been interesting, like his affinity for poison, but it doesnt really develop them.
