For starting, This series is not masterpiece, most not even can called it good, but it was fun.

Personally chapter 1-100 is quite hurt to read as it took typical manhua trope and smashed them together. I was barely a finger away from dropping it. But once it start it is quite fun.

The plot are so so. It's your typical xinxia story with a lot of comedic moments. Hate them or like them.

The main character and heroines interaction are great, I really love them. The strongest point of the manhua imo.... more>> Would hope more of the moments but at least they all appear in a pretty good time and dont feel out of place.

The background characters are completely useless, but from many manhua i've seen, they are slightly more tolerable and doesnt make the world feel as hostile, So it's fine.

The translation is quite good. Though dont expect anything big.

This novel is very hit or miss. So try reading it to a certain point when you believe you wont like the novel at all. Me personally enjoy it a lot but maybe I just have tr*sh taste. <<less

The girl that want or want to get back her chicken give me some annoying feeling. I don't know why? I'll read other novel that started to meet some girl that have a annoying behaviour but didn't stop me from reading, it did not give me a bad feeling but for this...

Like just say that this girl will be annoying as the story continues. So I'll stop.

I’d rate the general plot for this novel at 4 stars, and the execution of the novel at 6 stars.

There are flaws here and there, but ultimately it balances out around 5 stars for me.

It starts shameless, it ends shameless, and the entire novel is one giant mindf’k-laden comedy skit with action and tragedy liberally sprinkled throughout. It’s also like a campaign of 4D Go games, where the protag plays for keeps.

The thing is, without the “flaws”, the novel wouldn’t work quite as well, so they’re flaws and also not flaws.

If you pay closer attention than I did, you can see the final boss coming from a mile away, but the way the author handled it was splendid.

It seemed only slightly interesting at first glance, but don’t let the first arc fool you. It’s a diamond in the rough, and I’m glad I spotted it. <<less

a decent novel with some flaws but still worth to read in ur spare time.

u might confuse with some chinese phrase or words since translator doesnt explain all of it, but its okay so far.

a decent ending but not halfass unlike some other novel.

overall, worth my tea time.

The MC is shameless but likeable. Cunning but not evil. Very intelligent and full of humor. one of the scene is :

Fang Zhengzhi felt happier and more confident as time went by. He began to hum a little tune, "Tug and tug, tug at a carrot..."

However, he did not watch his volume.

The Emperor's expression began to change slightly as he nodded towards a middle aged man in armor.

He also loves money but didnt use the money he conned for himself instead using it for a greater good. The only downside is the story is a bit slow pace. But overall, very good. Recommended ? <<less

The comedy maybe there but the novel is a mess. The repeat of words that author goes through, a whole 10 chapters MC thinking he is in a dream. And plots are never even explained. The political setting was good until it was all examinations and irritating princesses

good for comedy, but power up for MC is too suddenly sometimes even without any explanation and feels like the author just "Hmm, how come the enemy is too strong! And the MC doesn't seems has enough power to overcome the enemy. Buutttt whatever, just make MC got new power of XXXX and be done with it !!!"

This novel is horrible. Not the translation or the cliche plot, but the MC himself. A thirty year old reincarnates in a fantasy world but knows nothing about fantasy, or even how dumb villagers usually are. Like Salem witches trial dumb. Now somehow instead of taking advantage of that, he acts like a normal 6 year old. Even his thoughts do.

Who becomes that greedy over a single ingot? Has he never seen a gold bar or even a picture of it on Earth? Even after his father was hurt. Rather than waiting for the soldiers to arrive so he can show of, he showed off his powers to the ignorant villagers and corrupt chief. Even after all the BS the Li family does to his, he doesn’t even at least crush their father’s arm. As you have noticed, his thought process matches that of a 5 year old girl, we know who. Then that means he’s almost ret*rded (not the medical kind). Plus how he was scared of being spanked by her that he ruined his entire future of cultivation, well slightly because he’s the MC, proves how thoughtless his actions are.

This is actually a good novel, a fresh approach to cultivation by using ancient literature. The writing is good as well as the pacing of the plot. But that's where it ends. Reading this novel, I already have a lot of problems, let's list them all.

1. Everybody hates him because he comes from a village. The author would write chapter worth of people describing how the MC would fail.

2. The characters are weird. They never stick to their roles. Some might be like this but later chapters make them like that.

3. Plot armor galore. MC fights powerhouse individuals but is save by f*ckING deus ex machina crap. Like how a shounen protagonist win against strong opponents.

4. The schemes he concocts are plain dumb. I would spend considerable time pondering how that worked. The author creates very intricate plans that it make it look like him drinking water is essential to it. The MC would sometimes make random ad libs or scenes that which annoy me.

5. Every situation he lands himself in makes it look like he's the smartest person in the room.

Overall the novel feels annoying. It's like reading those novel with annoying xianxia protagonists that would always win a MOTHERf*ckING auction by raising the bid by one. Yes, the MC is a generic xianxia protagonists that actually knows a lot of things (psh no surprise). He acts all arrogant and intelligent but it's actually the author doing the hardwork. <<less

What a wonderful novel this would have been without the MC.

I do not see any need for him in this novel. Without him this would have been a great novel.

The only use for the MC in this novel is comedic relief. The only time that doesn't happen there is really no need for the MC to be there.

The only fault for this novel is the sole existence of the MC as I see it. Every single character other than the MC has amazing back story and character development. The author... more>> really done a great job at this.

But as soon as the MC enters the stage the whole world changes. This novel feels more of a fanfiction to me. In fact I wish this was a fanfiction that way I can live without feeling disappointed with knowing that such a great story exists.

But alas just because of MC existence is there for comic relief the disappointment is greater.

My regret with mc

1 if you dont know about something then ask and learn about it. I dont how its possible that he is curious and need to know something but can go on months not asking. The author tried to keep it mysterious that way but when you mentioned something every 10ch yet go on like that for over 200ch when it can be solved with asking his friends it's not mysterious anymore just disappoint.

2 MC exist to spoil every single serious moment that happened so far with his foolish behaviors. But he is not a fool when he is one of the most talented person in the whole world. The author just force everything to be funny until he cant and then bamm he solved a problem and he's a f*cking genius and the next moment is him being a fool.

3 the plot armor is too thick. MC in trouble and the next one if his wifey is there to save him. Just for once can he not be saved cause of a girl. Every single time he was saved cause of a girl.

4 MC being a talent in strategy, psychology, dao, and in fighting techniques is contradictory because it's not explained at all how he is good. All we get or forced accept that he is good at them cause he is the MC.

5 MC dao is the most problematic. He knows everything that there is to know about them. And yet he dont understand them when needed. They just exist to either proof that he is a genius or author is just afraid of making him overpowered.

Overall I dont hate this novel. Just wish it was a fanfiction. Cause the author seriously ruined a great warring states fantasy drama novel with his addition of the one of the most sh*t MC I have seen so far. I am only disappointed in this novel. <<less

a disappointment. The author tried to copy a will eternal writing style and failed miserably at it, he keeps giving hints of greater mystery behind events that happens but the revelation is so shallow it might as well non-existent. And our MC, he's a carbon copy of Bai Xiaochun from AWE, he's talent can only be matched by his ignorance and be surpassed by the Plot Armor of the author. Really, just how can a 30+ year old scholar of ancient writings of china be reborn as a childish idiot... more>> whose purpose in the entire story is a blade for others to use. And the way he's treated is just outrageous, he break all records and do all these miraculous things but still treated like chump by others. Always compared to the woman who can't do what he does and keeps plotting against him in the back with motives not revealed 80% through the story. The author idea of mysterious is sometimes he'll insert another POV scene where someone said ambiguous things and revealed it in the most ordinary way possible. All in all just don't read GoG, you'll just be tired of it and I mean really tired of it. <<less

The author wants to be flowery, and sucks at it. Keeps writing empty lines like "It was a beautiful scene, but it was shocking at the same time." But fails to explain anything. Or explains too much to the extent of spoiling the pace: "The string instrument was playing a meditation song. The song was obviously a meditation song. The rhythm of the song, as well as the jade-like fingers on the purple guqin. A white snow dress slightly floated along with the blowing breeze, as her dark beautiful hair... more>> landed on the emerald green grass. The song sounded like a fairyland. It was coupled with the beautiful face of the woman, with crystal clear jade skin and bright black eyes. That scenery was indeed extremely stunning. However, the young lad sitting opposite the woman did not seem to see the woman at all, as his eyes were not even opened. Both his eyes were slightly closed. It seemed like he was sleeping."

The fights just drag on, often pointlessly. A large unwieldy harem.

But the dao of shamelessness is strong when it appears. <<less

Hilarious shameless cheap money grubbing MC. He is not a fighter, he is a lover. Of money! I like how this novel doesn’t have the usual cultivate cultivate then kill beasts as training and wanton killing of their opponents. This MC likes to use tricks to win instead. His hidden weapons and sneak attacks are the best!

For those who giving this novel a bad review "one star", I feel like they are frog in the well :P

Because there is so many others worst novel than this GoG.

Please noted that this novel is not for those who want serius and heavy plot. (Example: Transcending the Heaven)

It's more like (A Will Eternal)

But I like GoG more... Because even the main plot seem Repetitive "how the MC entering exam third time" it comes with a good twist and turn. Without so many chapter blabbering about cultivation.

Good thing I didn't lessen to those negative reviews otherwise I would have miss an amazing novel. It has a slow start but gets better after chapter 50. Knowledge is power and that is what this novel is all about. The MC have no cheat aside from the memories of his past life which he was a historian which made him knowledgeable. The comedic parts are hilarious, remind me of AWE. He is very shameless :D Looking forward to finding out more about the world he is in.

So-So, the story is driven by the idiot-yet-genius MC. He is carefree and ignorant of how the world works. He also likes to avoid troublesome stuffs. These three mainly propels the story. When the trouble comes knocking, he solves it with his brilliant thinking.

So far it is still very basic and no major events yet, it's more like an introductory arc. So this could be a quite slow novel.
