Takamura-kun is Cursed

Description

A curse was cast on a girl called Takamura and on her 17th birthday she will turn into a boy. The only way to remove the curse, was to kiss her ouji-sama (lol). While thinking it’s absurd and an inconvenience to kiss the ouji but I don’t want to become a guy, I lived a somewhat peaceful school life. But for some reason, the most popular guy in school – Sunohara Chiharu started to consult me about love matters. Even though I don’t have the time to support other people’s love, well, it’s okay as long as it doesn’t become troublesome. But when I went at it with such light feelings, I got more and more embroiled.

It seems that Takamura-kun really is cursed.

A girl turns into a guy on her 17th birthday via a curse and to turn back into a girl she needs to kiss her crush (prince) before she turns 20. But she doesn't have anything like a crush yet so she's just chilling when she gets annoyed by a dude who's a lot like Honey Senpai < not even kidding, I can practically see the flowers floating around him. The dude asks her for relationship advice because her Male-Ver 2.0 attracts a girl he's into. It's funny how much... more>> the protag is bothered by the Honey Senpai personality cuz she's like UGH this man-child. But she thinks he's ok as an amusing friend. <<less

A lot of what makes or breaks a story for me is the main character. This time, she/he is great. Obviously, anyone would be shocked at such a situation and Takamura is, but she accepts it pretty fast and you can't feel any urgency with her trying to immediately change into a girl. That's the great part about her. Since it's troublesome, she prefers to just stay a dude than try to change back, haha. Relatable.

The story progresses well for a short series, and I can't wait to see which... more>> who she chooses or if she'll stay a dude (not likely in the novel world, but there's always a first). (5/5) <<less

A girl wakes up and finds her body changed to a male body. While shocked, her parents tell her it's a curse every girl in the family suffers, and to change back, she has to kiss her crush before turning 20 or she will be a man forever. The thing is, she doesn't have a crush, and doesn't seem to care much about the curse.

Now, I won't say much about the story, because it's as simple as the premise tells you. The curse is clearly an excuse to have the... more>> girl changed into a boy, but since no-one talks about it, the protagonist could have been a boy from the start and nothing would be different.
As for the characters, on one hand we have Chiharu, the popular boy who has "a crush" on the girl who likes the protagonist. He is SO ANNOYING. He's childish and selfish, I couldn't stand him.
On the other hand, we have the protagonist. It kind of bothered me how quickly she got over the initial shock and got used to the male body. It feels like she's a girl changed into a boy instead of a boy from the start just so she could say things like "I don't like girls because I'm a girl.", but it's the only thing that will make you think of her as a "she". I read all the translated chapters just to see if it somehow got better, but nope. I would like to rate this with just one star, but the translator deserves better. (2/5) <<less

The plot is as the summary delivers. Her nonchalant attitude drew me and the sweet background characters kept me reading. The mystery that was introduced was straightforward but the ending seems to fall short of what was promised.

Spoiler

I generally don't mind open ended endings; however, this one was just bland. There are several threads left hanging and not a single one was sewed shut. Arguably, we learn the source of the curse but that barely leads anywhere. It was disappointing.

It starts off with a fairly interesting premise and a good introduction, but the story feels rushed in the latter half of the story and the ending leaves a lot more to be desired. It gets a bit confusing at the end when they try to stuff you with the lore and origins of the curse, but overall it's a decent quick read.

So the basic premise is; a girl gets turned into a guy on her 17th birthday and has to kiss a prince (lol) aka a guy she likes before her 20th birthday or s/he'll be a guy forever.

So s/he gradually gets used to living as a guy. However the school's goddess/idol seems to have a crush on s/he and won't leave her alone. S/he's also constantly annoyed by the school prince who for some reason seems to like pestering her constantly.

I really love this story. In a... more>> sentence, this story is gender bender done right. I love the m.c, she's really cool and takes things at her own pace. <<less

It was a story about a teenager becoming a man after her 17th birthday. The MC is not the damsel in distress type, she is really cool. It was a curse that runs to their family. But it can be lifted if she will fall in love before her 20th birthday. She transferred to a new school as a boy then there she met a lot of interesting ikemen boys (im totally going for the clingy ikemen boy ❤) It has a twist when it comes to lifting the curse though. Its a comedy wise novel with a tinge of innocent romance. The emotions are delivered well, it doesn't mismatch with the situations. The ML (imo) was amazingly portraited, his weirdness and craziness didn't come out disgusting, it really fits his description (tsundere rocks!). The chemistry between the MC and ML was really cute, their moments are so fluffy. Im just a bit disappointed because it has an open ending but Im really grateful to the translator (NAKIMUSHI) for finishing translating this novel. It was fun, I really had great time reading this until the end. I totally recommend this one.

(I'm French so sorry for my shitty English) 😅😭

It's a pretty good novel. 😇

... more>> In fact, from chapter 1 to chapter 11 it's really a good novel (and I put the mark of 4/5) ! 😍

But from chapter 12 until the end, I don't like (it's not worth more than 3/5, maybe 2/5 but since I really liked the first part of the story I put 3/5) ! 😒

From there, the characters annoy me (well especially Sunohara Chiharu, so much before I found him cute, even if he was clingy and selfish I found that side of his personality cute, but in the second half of the story 'story it's just a selfish kid that you want to slap. I think after 140 years of life you're supposed to be mature but despite having lived for over a century, he's still just as immature) , and the story gets way too annoying and sad! 😒😭

In addition to that, I find it unfortunate that we are not talking about the suspicious guy who incited Sunohara to cast the curse, he is a very important character however since if he had not appeared, nothing would have happened! (Personally, given the way he's described, I think he's a demon) 🤔😠😈

Otherwise, not to end up on a bad note:

Takamura is so cool! I really like the way she handled the situation and the fact that she didn't cry for a hundred years about her situation and knew how to take charge and take the situation in hand. 😍🥰

I liked Sunohara (especially in the first half), but I admit that I really loved Sena (especially since we know that he too is cursed and that he is actually a boy, and I had him. Guessed from the first chapters, I'm too proud of myself!) and Hiwatari (I think we haven't seen enough for that matter) who are so cute! 🥰😍

I think it would have been interesting if the novel was longer to see them more and for the ending to be less messy, and hopefully Takamura might have picked the person she loves. 🤔🥰😭

Despite many negative points (just for the second half), I really liked the first half which is very cute and sweet, plus the novel is short and easy to read so I recommend it! 😅🥰

Good reading ! 😘 <<less

As a casual read, it’s pretty good. I enjoyed the MC’s personality and how the FL fell for him (her?) separate of the curse and more on her own. The ML’s fun but a little hit or miss and while the curse origin doesn’t truly make any sort of sense; it’s not bad

Spoiler

when it’s open ending. I do like how she doesn’t find her “One True Love” and that her parents were a rarity not a norm. Honestly it feels a little like a 3way relationship at the end.

It's alright. I love this MC a lot (if someone has recommendations of novels with similar MCs, please let me know!!!) It's also only 17 chapters but not a huge commitment for a light read. Sunohara is a liittle annoying, especially in the beginning, but bearable. I also really like Hiwatari and others. Even though the novel itself is really short, I feel like the important characters are fairly flushed out, in a way that feels actually realistic.

open-ended endings for me are just half-assed. Chiha is a selfish brat but to be condemned to immortality because of cursing is severe, but literally his curse to switch their genders is just idiotic since that type of solution is just wrong. And the shady guy that recommended it to him was a good element but was not further explained.

Also the MC is like go-with-the-flow. And his/her feelings for chiha as only friendship was expected. I mean there was not enough time and chances for love to bloom. too bad not much character development was implemented

And for 10 reincarnations within a span of 120 years is quite... fast? I mean the average lifespan is 50 and above right? Unless accidents and deaths occured to their family so much. I dunno just throwing my opinion here.

Still this was a quick read if you have the time to waste. maybe i'll give it a higher rating if the story was longer.. it had potential but it ended too quickly for me. <<less

It's was a good read, and quite a plot twist for me.

The ending was 'meh' though. It vaguely ended before I knew it kind of feeling.

Recommend for a something light and not too long to read. Oh yea, there was a bit of a story near the end for the sake of drama too. The comfort she received was quite cute though, the awkward-kind of kindness//////

It's a wish fulfillment story about what it would be like to know the female mind. I not going say they got it right or even close... but interaction between our cast is funny enough to keep me interested for awhile. 7/10
