It is not unusual for students to play some spooky games when bored and for a freshman in university, they never get boring. I have tried them all, the Ouija Board, whatever, you name it. No harm has come from playing these games until three of my roommates and I played a mysterious game in a dark room.

The fifth person that mysteriously appeared. The sharp drip-drop of water. The large water stain on our dorm wall… No one from Room 308 is going to be spared. Fear of the unknown and tremors of precognition enshrouds us all. What are the continuous trickles of water? Are they the tears of the dead who yearns for life or the cries of unjust formed by the blood of spirits who have lost their voices?

i dont know why this novel is kind of underrated. It's good for me. I mean, if you seek a horror and thriller story this is a good one, especially for BL, since I find it hard to get a BL web/light novel with a real horror and thriller. It's short and fulfilling, be it the romance, the mystery, the horror and the thrill, all of them are quite satisfying.

Not a story for romance but damn did it scare me a couple of times. I got emotional when the reveal happened, but also had some questions unanswered in the end. For a short story it was a hooker and made me wish of a different scenario when I finished, there is just so much injustice in this world.

The Water Goes Drip Drop is a mild horror novel, sets in a male dorm background. If you are reading this for BL, you'll likely be disappointed because there's not much lovey-dovey acts, and the shounen ai feelings at play was not well-fleshed out (in my opinion).

On the other hand, if you are looking for a short nice read during lonely nights when it was raining hard outside and the lights went out, or something to read aloud during camping nights with friends.... this one is probably for you.

And, don't... more>> be discouraged by its tragedy tags. It's just fate and karma. <<less

This was pretty creepy for a short story, especially when they were playing the game! It's really great as a horror novel and I felt that the romance tied everything together nicely at the end.

I noticed some reviewers felt that the romance was too forced but I actually didn't think so. The novel only has 12 chapters so it's not like the romance could progress in the usual manner.

Yet, it still worked rather well. MC and ML falling in love amidst all that fear and despair is written in a... more>> way that makes their relationship very believable. It felt almost natural that their friendship progressed in that direction, since they only had each other to turn to in such a frightening situation.

This is a very interesting read, especially when you finally get to the end of the mystery behind the "evil" spirit! <<less

Disappointed with this one... as the other reviewer has commented.. the relationship is not fleshed out and their attraction with each other is just out of the blue.. instant, random, bland... But the horror is quite nice... the ending was not as satisfying..

Considering that this is horror month [Halloween] I re-read all horror novel that I have or haven't read and man, this one is still on my top list.

It is more sad than scary though. Maybe I am desensitized from reading too many Guro lol but this actually make me sad more than scared me.

Even if this is fiction, I really wish SL got his happiness in next life. And honestly I can't really take this as fiction since sadly what happen to him is actually, like author said, happen a... more>> lot in real life. <<less

This isn't tragedy. It is horror. The focus isn't romance.

Once you get past the light (almost goofy) tone of chapter 1, it's a thrilling read. Superb translation. I felt disappointed with the plot and MC at chapter 9, but continued reading. Thankfully, everything makes sense later and all loose ends are tied up. Overall, I rate it 5, because it's not a bad read and to counter the lower ratings that were expecting a typical love story in a 12 chapter horror novel.

(I'll admit, as I read, I imagined... more>> MC and ML as my OTP *shrug* Your mileage may vary.)

Anyway, what follows is my list of wishes where the story could've done better:

Spoiler
    • MC doesn't grow past being ordinary (and even becomes appalling in chapter 9). So when he's better in the last three chapters, I wonder, was it really so hard to be like this in chapter 9?!
    • Choice of victims seems to be the Chinese version of "black guy dies first"
      Spoiler

Minorities are mentioned (Hui (Chinese Muslim), Uyghur), it seems, for absolutely no reason but to blame one for starting the whole mess and killing them both. The rich kid and "emo" kid are also offed. The three regular Han Chinese (MC, ML, and student council (youth party?) member) survive.

      [collapse]
    • Some of the wrap up is in the author's Afterward and not the story itself
    • The author's view on reality and injustice... If people saw injustice and said, "Well, this is reality folks, " there'd be no civil rights, women's right to vote, gay marriage, etc. It's still a work in progress, but reality can be changed. Injustice can be fought.

This story is very well written and thought-out. So much so, that I would give it 5 stars purely for that.

In a paraphrased quote from the end of the story: nothing is a coincidence- everything was predestined. In the past chapter, all the little details come together and you see the whole picture. I very much enjoyed the way the author thought things through.

The only reason why I ended up giving this a 4 star is because I personally left this story with no desire to reread it. In other... more>> words, it's an extremely well-written story, but not one I can comfortably love and hold close to my heart. <<less

I enjoyed the horror elements of this story. That is not too common in a bl story so that was refreshing. The main reason I don't give it more stars is because the romance feels kind of shoehorned in. Overall, it was a nice quick mild horror read.

Would've rated this 1 star if it wasn't for the excellent translation, but that's about it. There's nothing else that's good in this novel. I couldn't even bring myself to finish this.

I did not feel attached to any of the characters at all, no grief for the character deaths, no sympathy for the MC and the ML, neither pity nor fear to the ghost. Maybe a little bit tension during the first few chapters, if only because it was written nicely.

Now, for the relationship between the two main characters. I... more>> almost wanted to become the ghost and strangle the two of them to death! How absurd! One moment they have a near death experience and the next they've got the guts to blush and get shy! You're going to die, what rotten thing is that in your brains?!?

You tell me, okay, something is out there to kill them, they sleep in the same bed because they're scared out of their wits and wants to feel safer — and now you tell me, they suddenly develop s*xual tension and kiss?!?!?!? Are you nuts?!?!

I'm sorry but this novel did not scare me as much as it angered me. Ridiculous. And the ghost's backstory is even more absurd than the two main's relationship. What a joke. <<less

This damn scary and a lot of killing. It was so sad and a very emotional story. You felt like going crazy when the main character got chased by the ghost and felf like crying when all the story revealed... lastly, there no much action and fluffy stuff like other yaoi novel, , but, since I am a scaredy cat but still want to read this stuff but this story is so scary and detailed killing..
