In less than an instant the world as we knew it was at its end.

That’s right. The Apocalypse. In a single blink Zombies appeared and mutated monsters began to rampage all throughout the world. Now it was the human species turn to fight for survival and planetary dominance!

On the same day that the world descends into chaos we meet Yue Zhong. Initially only hoping to get to his friends and escape to a refugee camp our protagonist sets out, inadvertently building a team along the way. After a series of fortuitous events and a few serious hunches our hero decides it’s time to do more than just survive!

Yue Zhong begins to form the foundations of an enormous survival plan… before he suddenly discovers that he has only gotten over the first hurdle…. Unbeknownst to Yue Zhong and company, the world outside of China is mostly a wasteland! Country sized swathes of nuclear radiation and an extreme shortage of supplies in the world after the nuclear explosions was quickly becoming the “norm”. Mutants, Evolved animals and what’s worse, intelligent out of control dinosaurs had quickly appeared and claimed their own sections of the planet. There were several innately powerful Evolved races which appeared that were more than 10 times stronger than humans, nearly all of them possessing bodies impenetrable by normal bullets. The fabled orcs’ were another of these Evolved races, the leader of which had in fact ens*aved many of the remaining human beings.

Unceremoniously exposed to such a cold and heartless new world, Yue Zhong is faced with a choice: Find a deep dark hole and hope it goes back to “normal”? Or overcome all obstacles and struggle towards Evolution!!!

Highly recommended to those who like zombie apocalypse genre. Beware this novel is full of gore, racism and mature contents not recommended for the faint hearted. Other than that the plot is good.

ulamog is beefcake.

On another note, the story is decent, its about zombies which I like. Seems like a bit of racism from the author but eh who cares? It might just be nationalism according to the author. A decent read overall.

Well, for me this novel is quite nice to read I kinda like this type of scenario end of the world, a game system implemented and it is survival from now on.

There is nice action, nice character development, we can see that the scale of the novel will get bigger and bigger as the chapters come.

It s not really the best written novel but it is entertaining to read, and the translation is quite fast.

One of the things I struggle with is keeping track of all the name there is... more>> too much of them as of now I m kinda lost except for a few character and the MC, I m not really fond of harem usually and in this novel it seems it will soon catch up with the size of an emperor of china's harem. <<less

about this series:
1. Has game-elements
2. About zombies
3. A strong MC (though ruthless)
4. A harem (you can skip those parts if you don't like harem stories, like me)
5. Some offensive comments (the translators try to lighen these as much as possible.)

if you can ignore the negative parts, I would recommend the book.

I like the story its just somethings I feel like was just skipped over. I mean when the story first started there were different class systems and then after only like two people changed their classes it got over shadowed. It feels like the author realized later on that no one was really getting stronger expect the MC so they put in the fruit to compensate this.

It's a good read. Even though the author recycles the random relocation thing a bit too much and the MC has way too many girls in his harem (i hate harems), I somehow read every chapter and I liked it.

Love this novel because of the abilities and the detail into modern weaponry. Wish the protagonist could just leave the weak behind and go out into the world to explore. Love it. Best novel on zombie apocalypse and game theory mix.

I feel many people who read this novel and find it offensive really don't think about the fact that in a post apocalyptic world people that were not constrained by laws may really behave this way. If you take away law and civilization where there would be no consequences for your actions people would behave very differently than they do now. Take a look at history, Attila the Hun and his men, the vikings, the English settlers of the new world. None of them hesitated to r*pe and pillage as... more>> much as they want because no one could stop them. The government officials and enhancers can also behave in this manor because they hold all the power. In times of crisis people often times try to cling to ones with power in order to survive that is why the MC has so many lovers and none of them were forced into it, it is a survival mechanism to ensure that those women can survive. There is darkness in all of us, just remember that. <<less

The story flow is great, albeit the messy arrangement of monsters and the MC's PARTICULARLY extreme luck streak which annoys me a little. Also I seem to see many comments about racism, but honestly I don't really think it's a problem. Reading a novel is always about seeing from different points of view, so it was interesting. The foreigners in the novel were jerks anyway?

So, like many other of the novels being translated, somewhat ordinary MC comes upon fortunate coincidences and is forced to gain power for his own peace of mind. If you can't get enough of that premise (like me), you'll enjoy this novel. The setting here is a neat twist on the zombie apocalypse idea, turning the world into a kind of natural rpg with a degree of political intrigue. It allows for entertaining encounters and has nice progression of difficulty and rise in power. Like many other novels of this... more>> type, the main character's rise in power is coupled with a growing harem of women adding an unfortunate and non-plot enhancing twist. It's unfortunate that with this post apocalyptic world where exceptional people can rise the author has gender stereotypes devolve. Even hero type men become sex-driven and brutish, while women seek protectors. Sure maybe there was a lot of that historically, but an opportunity is seemly missing to play with some of today's modern values being corrupted, which hasn't really happened thus far. Ex: feminists revenging on powerless men. Gamer nerds having worked out the system and psychologically failing to realize it's not just a game. There's also a degree of xenophobia for other nationalities/races but they mostly come in small bites at a time, but if a Chinese writer having a Chinese character think Chinese > everyone else irks you too much than you might not care for this. Minor grievances aside, the author puts together an engrossing plot that keeps me continuously entertained as I read and I'd highly recommend giving it a shot <<less

I have read this story from the beginning till now it get better as time goes on. Although there is alot to say that there are negativities but in the end the story feeds the addict need for more power ups and what other changes with now a new country with language barrier. Let's see are MC deck someone else's country's.

Good things about the story. It's entertaining, it does justice to the apocalypse genre, and leaves you wanting to read more. It has RPG elements and Kingdom building elements. Bad things about the story. It's repetitive, the MC is somewhat inconsistent in his statesmanship, and I think he ignores the most logical steps to rebuild the nation. As for it being repetitive. How often do crowds really break out into riots where people try to r*pe, loot, and kill others during an invasion? That seems like the sort of thing... more>> restricted to the people invading. It's bad to r*pe and mu*der people right? But if you do the slightest thing wrong as a woman you'll be thrown into the woman's camp and given away as a s*x s*ave? You don't even need to actually do anything wrong yourself. If your relative does something wrong or if you're a servant and your master tries to sell you as a bribe you can also end up in such a situation. Why has the MC not gone back to the novice village or at least checked to see if it's still there? The system villages seem to be some of the single greatest survival resources available to humanity and he hasn't even bothered getting his people to them. The effectiveness of combat troops with a class would skyrocket. Support jobs can be gained as well. Blacksmiths that can create system weapons, Doctors that can cure the infection, Beast Tamers that can domesticate useful mutant beasts, and perhaps Farmers who can fix the land to solve the food problem. I don't generally have a problem with what's considered sexist in the story. The sexism makes sense. There's a reason why women aren't used in warfare and get a pass on the draft. Men are naturally more expendable because the rate of reproductive is capped by the number of women you have. Such a system probably would evolve in this situation. <<less

This story is definitely darker than the typical xuanhuan/xianxia, alot of sexism and people only looking out for themselves but for the most part it makes sense within the context of the story. There is also a lot of extreme nationalism on the part of the author during some parts but its easy to ignore and sometimes pretty hilarious. As for the MC he is pragmatic and actually knows his limits unlike some. He is smart enough to know when he can help and when he can't so he definitely... more>> isn't the white knight type but hes isn't a total bastard, just a normal guy, albeit one with the will to do what needs to be done, regardless of how hard that is. As for power he is definitely OP compared to the other people but in the world as a whole he is rather weak and mainly survives and powers up using his wits to take down enemies stronger than himself. It also follows virtual reality stories in that there are constant drops upgrading him and teaching him new skills and that helps make it fun as you never know what ridiculous sh*t will drop for him next lol. <<less

In the beginning, I was unsure of God and Devil World. It wasn't a Xianxia, and I figured it'd be another zombie survival. However, it incorporated an element that I just love, fighting for territory and power which makes it ever the more interesting.

Yue Zhong is one of my favorite characters of all time, because he's realistic about things. Instead of being some savior that doesn't want to hurt people, he'd do the human thing and kill anyone it takes to survive. I can't stand cowards either, and Yue... more>> Zhong is willing to mercilessly kill them.

I like his attitude of taking women if they want to be with him, instead of those pansy novels where the main character even gets embarrassed to hold hands with their s*ave.

I rank God and Devil World near the top of my list along with I Shall Seal the Heavens, Stellar Transformations, Coiling Dragon, Swallowed Star, Martial World, Desolate Era and Against the Gods. Now if only you guys will s*ave yourselves away into new chapters. <<less

GDW is a novel worthy of your attention. I don't care what other people say but here is the truth!

GDW is great. Even though I have cursed the author repeatedly for being somewhat of a racist, piece of useless sh*t and pe*ophile I still find the novel enjoyable. The world is a mixture between games, fantasy, apocalyptic, and horror. It has everything from mutated magical beasts to evolved, bad ass zombies. The MC is down to earth (most of the time) and merciless. He has the personality to survive... more>> and that's basically all there is to him (Oh, and he has a harem... I usually dislikes stuff like that however this harem isn't like normal ones. The women either genuinely admires him or they try to get him to take care of them).

As for the translation... I have almost no complains. While I like how the translator leaves notes that are witty, funny and... perverse it can get a bit distracting. With that said I've laughed more times than I can count due to his/hers weird and original personality.

I hope you (yes you the guy bored enough to read this) give this story a try. It starts off with a bang (no sleep, marathon reading kind of bang)... Then eventually it gets a bit boring but it WILL and HAS improved immensely. Lastly I would like to thank the translators (I know you're reading this) for their awesome work. You guys make my, and my fellow readers, boring life a lot more exciting.

- A sincere Leecher. <<less

Pretty good series, if you enjoy apocalypse novels this is probably right up your alley. Post-apocalyptic death-game with rpg element novels are definitely one of my favorite genres. That said, this novel definitely has it's issues, mainly the author reusing some plot points, the extreme harem and some lack of common sense.

The world is also pretty dystopian in the sense that shortly after the apocalypse humanity devolves back into an exceedingly patriarchal/misogynistic power-hungry society at a remarkable pace. Women are treated like possessions and r*pe is commonplace. It's a pretty... more>> dark read, and there are a lot of different stereotypes that are used liberally throughout the story that might turn off quite a few readers.

That said, it's still a decent read and one I'm currently following. Check it out. <<less

I've read the entire novel, some parts more than once and I can honestly say it's one of my favorites, it has its major flaws but honestly in this genre what doesn't? (That isn't written by IET)

If like the first two translators you can't stand some serious racist stereotyping of certain regions of Asia (Indonesia gets it the worst I think) by all means don't read this book, seriously don't

If on the other hand you like me enjoy a book with a decent MC who works hard goes... more>> to war fights solo battles and gets all the women, it's for you

What really got me enjoying this book when I first read it was the fact I was never sure what was important, it was hard to predict where things were going because I'm 90% sure the author just tried whatever came to mind and anything that he foreshadows that he doesn't like later he just ignores, this might annoy a lot of people but I honestly liked it <<less

Originally I didn't plan to write a review as I think there are enough, but I guess Ulamog wasn't satisfied by that... tricky orc (what ? it isn't supposed to be a orcish name ? I don't care, Ulamog will always be a orc, in my head atleast).. hope not every translations ask for more reviews or ratings (honest ones, mind you, we're not coerced to put lies in here) for new bonus chapters... that'd be really tiresome I would end up putting some 30-ish reviews around here.

Things I like:
Giant communities of people living on
Beasts and constant evolution of both beasts and zombies
The whole game system thing... more>> /> Ulamog's comments at chapter posts

Things I don't really care about or put up with it:
Prostitution.
r*pe.
Racism.
Mysterious ghost chapters once in a while

Things I don't like:
Woman he once held dearly and said would love forever becoming background.
People who were important becoming background... I guess I really dislike that, huh. <<less
