Before she jumped into the pond filled with ten thousand venomous creatures, Ah Lai asked her, ‘Did you ever regret meeting him?’

Su Bai watched her quietly. After a long moment, she lifted her lips and smiled. ‘It was the greatest blessing of my life to have met him.’

And she leapt off the steps.

She thought: no matter how difficult her love was, no matter how she hated and then despaired, in this life, she was immensely fortunate.

Because she had once loved a person so deeply.

Even if, he had never loved her.

Hardcore tragedy. Tons of misunderstandings/miscommunication. Devoted MC with master ML... probably readers' interpretations will vary, but I think the ML deserved all the suffering and more.

I just want the MC to be happy... sigh.

Spoiler

There was of course, a fellow disciple Ah Lai (who will draw all the hatred) setting up some of the misunderstandings, but honestly, all of them could have been cleared up easily if the ML had just said something. So I'm kind of glad there was no revenge on Ah Lai because she wasn't the core of their relationship problems.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Especially that night when the MC cried all night. She started crying before the ML went to sleep and he basically completely avoided seeing her after she came back injured from the war front. Seriously? =_=

Classic case of "ML not appreciating when she's there and then realizing how much she meant after she left."

This is a magnificent but tragic short story. She fell into the abyss called love and she could not escape from it. The most frustrating thing is that if there was more communication between the male lead and MC, the ending could have went a different way. Though it would not be a magnificent tragedy. I can read this short story over and over and it will bring tears to my eyes even though I know the ending.

Short and tragic.I was sobbing the entire time!Yue Chi did not deserve Su Bai. Hers is love that is pure and (albeit s*upid) unwavering.I still feel heavy-hearted with the ending. I need someone to slap to Ah Lai a hundred thousand times then she can be pushed to a Gu pond.

I cried a lot... This novel is a hidden but tragic jewel. It hurt my heart to see the suffering that Su Bai went through. the master did not deserve his love, she sacrificed everything for him but as an... more>> idiot he could not discover what the fox of Ah Lai was up to, but it deserves 10/5 I would like to take out more caps telling how Su Bai's life is now that Yue Chi knows the truth... <<less

I came for angst, or at least some sadness, but I'm left insulted and angered. I could see Su Bai's su*cide the moment she appeared and prayed she just runs in hopes that sth new happens. But nope. And then the whole scene in the gu pit. I'm just baffled at everything that happened in it. I don't want to delve into it because I'm so furious, but read it if you're that curious.

Meh, it was alright. The male lead is not very believable or consistent. He still treated her like a piece of tr*sh regardless of how he ended up feeling for, why bother giving this character a redemption.
Spoiler

It's never told that he got rid of the person who killed the MC, probably because he still keeps her around even after knowing about it.

It's a story filled with actual bad characters, bad as in the type to sacrifice innocent people because lol why not. All the characters are like that, except maybe the narrator. Personally I don't think these type of characters deserve to have their own romance story dedicated for them, since their happy ending would mean the continued miserable suffering of innocent people. Not saying it was a happy ending of course, but why even bother reading when all types of ending are pointless in the end.

I never write reviews, but this novel was simply so... marvellous, astonishing, tragic, gut-wrenching, and everything in between. (I seem to have suddenly devloped a sudden case of lethologica). This story is so tragic, that we can't bear to tear our eyes from the beautiful masterpiece that is this novel.

Even though the novel may not be hundreds or thousands of chapters, it manages to effectively communicate lots of emotions and themes to the reader. When reading the novel, one feels like they are inside the story, spectating as the... more>> characters fall into despair, anguish, and helplessness. <<less

It's emotional story, make me cry. Short stories are good read, they have good plot and no unnecessary drama. But still I wish there should be punishment for Ah lai, it's incomplete without that. I don't like ML, he does not deserve Su bai

AHHHH IT HURTS... IT HURTS... MY EYES HURTS... MY HEART HURTS... HOW CAN THIS BE ??? THIS IS SUCH A TRAGEDY!

Unrequited love really hurts! But you know what hurts more?

Bit of a spoiler here, but not really so I won't put in the spoiler clause:

Never knowing that your love was actually reciprocated because the loved one is too much of an idiot to act on it and will only show it once you are gone, once he lost you... only then he will regret.

It is only a short novel but it made me tear so much.

I dislike the ML for using the FL but I sympathized him when he cried watching her suffer. He obviously loved her in his own ways. It was just saddening that they became miserable bc of misunderstanding and evilness of Ah Lai.

I think the ending is not fully sad but more on bittersweet.

Spoiler

ML finally knew everything. Despite what happened, despite FL forgetting everything... The ending created a world only for ML and FL like the first time they met.

For her evilness, Ah Lai needed to suffer... but what make me feel good is what the translator said, she was not mentioned by the ML even once which means he was indifferent to her and doesn't care for her.

I think I've read this twice and not since. Hurts my heart with the depth of their emotions and there's something so deeply emotional about heartbreak and their words that looking at this again after so many months makes my heart hurt. Wish it had a different ending. Worth reading

I gave it a 5 star because for a short story, it was able to capture the growth of the characters' emotions and struggles. I recommend this book if you don't mind reading a sad story.

Such a heartbreaking story, yet so well written and translated. I never am a fan of tragedy novel but I decided to give it a try since it sits in my reading list for so long. Give it a try if your heart can handle it. It is only a short story. I must say I have other tragedy novels I want to read. Nah, but I thought I might not be able to handle it. Anyway, this novel is good for a short change of taste.

I am literally crying a river of tears right now this novel is one of the most tragic one-shot novels that I have ever read, I've both loved and hated such a bittersweet ending that this story presented to me.

words wouldn't even describe to what I'm even feeling right now this very moment.

One of the best angst & tragic story I've ever read. The anguish & pain that Su Bai had been through can be felt in those short chapters, but the pain of unrequited love was the harshest for her. The ML is one of the dumbest I've read by far & regrets means nothing now. Everything is too late. Its really good and worth it. Does not need so many characters and chapters.

Su Bai in her subconscious mind, I know, she feels that deep love for Yue Chi, no memories though, hence she did all of that.

The first time I read this I didn't able to finish but after reading again I truly understand why this one is somewhat categorized in #unrequitedlove tag. Su Bai's love for Yue Chi is so deep, that she can still engraved it to her bones while struggling with poisons. After, she has long gone, Yue Chi told the world that she is his Yue Sha... more>> and he knew that their lives would never be broken again.

What a tragic fates. I cried heavily. Thank you translator for the well- translated novel and to the author for this heart wrenching story. <<less

Just an average novel. Some parts are cheesy I can't read. MC chose to live with the present ML as her home. She chose to listen to the words of that other person rather than clarifying (this person is too lazy I can't... Does she even wash her dishes after she eats or even comb her hair I wonder...). In the end she joined war and killed the people who loved her & was loyal to her family then regret later. She allowed herself to be used (*facepalms). Ok let's... more>> get to the end. So she jumped on that gu pit & became the gu of the ML. ML recognized her in the end & they were together. The only likable character here is the villain Ah Lai because only with her evil acts I was satisfied 🔥 <<less

I'm really glad it's a short story otherwise I've broken down and cursed out this poor woman's ironically tragic fate and cried my eyes out.

love really makes one s*upid until they can't even recognize their own mother, in this case Su Bai was being s*upid and stubborn and made her life even worse for a single man like wtf just take care of yourself instead of loving that sorry ass jerk. Even if their miscommunications were to be magically resolved, their relationship wasn't on an equal footing in the first... more>> place and I'm sure as hell that it won't change ever. So the final lesson I got was to respect and love yourself before pursuing scums. But I think one wouldn't pursue someone who's not treating and respecting you as a human being and then smiling at some random singing c*nt from nowhere and believing her words without a hitch like a ret*rd in love.
and I meant to give 4 stars but my finger slipped because angst <<less
