The cold face prince, with a face full of grievance: You said before that once sold, can’t be returned. A few years ago, I’ve already obediently gave myself to you. In these years I’ve always carefully obeyed your teachings, keeping myself pure for you. How can you heartlessly abandon me now?

Du Xiao Li’s jaw was about to drop to the ground: Alright then, seeing that you’re this obedient, you can come home with me!

A certain young master charmingly smiled: This husband shall comply!

This is only a partial review for now.

The light novel was easy to understand. The way the translators did.

It's a light novel, it's good that story background was laid out for the first arc

... more>> It's not too repitative in face slapping.

The MC, she's a transmigrator but she's not Op but a very humane one.

Many talents, but doesn't show to everyday. She help others by incorporating her past knowledge.

It's about farming, business, cooking and other stuff. A general ideas that can add flavor to the story.

And the mood of the story how the translators did was really good

I did binge this one for a whole night. Without letting go my phone. It's a good sign for me. A good novel one. A good translator also. <<less

Not your typical ancient-china transmigration novel. Or, at least, it's not like the ones I usually read. Here, there's a bigger focus on the characters and the intrigue. There are no magical cheats (since the MC is an embodiment of a cheat herself LMFAO, so OP and definitely a Mary Sue) and although there are hints of business management and poor-to-rich development. Those are settled pretty quickly in favor of getting the MC to bigger places. Altogether, it ended up not being my kind of novel. But I didn't think... more>> it was a bad read. I just got bored after a while because everything was a bit too easy (and also cringey).

___________

SUMMARY: The FL is a traditional medical medicine professional and assassin. She can also do pretty much anything else (from growing fruits, to cooking, to singing, to dancing, to playing multiple instruments, to so much more. Pretty much, anytime there's a need for something to be done, she'll have a way to do it). Anyway LMFAO, this multi-talented person transmigrates after dying from a bombing accident. The original owner of her new body (Du Xiaoli) is a poor, orphaned little girl with only her older brother (he's 10 and she's 7) as her backing. Suffice to say, life is pretty tough at first. But as is typical in these kinds of novels, the FL manages to scrounge up money to kickstart a business to change things up. And oh, by the way, get in touch with the ML (Han Mingyi) and a couple of his trusted confidants.

What I described is just the first arc. The next arc delves into life in the bustling state capital. At the time, the FL is just a few years short of the age of marriage and had pretty much finished building a sizable fortune for herself. But she gets dragged into trouble because of the original owner's identity and her ties to people from the capital and the Jianhu (yes, this novel can be considered Wuxia — since the FL herself practices martial arts — though it's not the focus).

________

THOUGHTS: I didn't finish the novel so I won't be giving it a rating. If I were to, it would probably be three stars or under. As for why... First, the FL is a very problematic protagonist. She's hard to like because she exudes Mary Sue aura everywhere (especially when you consider that the author made her good at everything, but also modest to the point that she repeatedly doesn't do anything when people kick her down DX. It's very frustrating). The ML is also bit too much of a toolman. I thought he was cute at first, but then he suddenly turned his doting on to the max and it felt so weird and just out of nowhere. The way the other people around the FL interact with her is also awkward. I mean, to be fair. I thought the side characters here were pretty good. Not so exaggerated like in other novels, but they're just all so Awkward HDKDKDKDKD.

Characters aside, there's also the plot that jumps constantly and has no comprehensible focus (the romance had the potential to be the thing tying everything together. But it ended up being very disappointing in my opinion. Cute, but disappointing). Anyway, I can go on and on. But it should be able to all boil down to the following: the story is okay, pretty nice to read, but it's not for everyone. I think I could have read further? But it didn't work out this time. I went into it knowing about the Mary Sue FL, so I was able to continue reading for a while, but then I was hit with one other thing after another, and had to give up this round LOL. Next time, I should be better prepared after reading this review. And will hopefully write a more comprehensive overview at that time. <<less

This novel was so nice! Slow moving, warmhearted and wholesome, a very relaxing reading.

I loved that the FL disclosed her secret to her little brother almost immediately after transmigration. She told him things about our modern world, and that she was an adult in his little sister's body.

There is nothing new in this novel plotwise or in its characters. Poor to rich, adult professional into a little kid, modern to ancient, orphans with bad relatives setting up an independent household in a remote village, cultivating and leveling up starting from... more>> zero, etc. What sets it aside is its wonderful translation and honesty between siblings, they both understand the differences between their two worlds and the need for her to adapt and for them to benefit from both. I feel great that the FL actually has a buddy whom she can trust, that she is not alone in a very deep sense. She is still a savior figure both to her brother and to the ML, but she is not a lone savior, nor an alien.

I also like that the FL grows and trains hard. Despite already being almost thirty when transmigrating she did not know it all as a martial artist or as a TCM practitioner. Her personal growth is more interesting than her building a business and saving a bunch of boys here and there as the story progresses. She does not kill nor heals that much in the first few years of her life in the new world. She farms tangerines and grapes for her winery, she studies advanced TCM and its underbelly (the art of poisons) of this world, and she trains/cultivates. It's good that the author let the seven years old protagonist and her little brother grow protected, as children should be, for seven years without exposing them to the harsher realities of the adult ancient world. So, there is a time skip and the second arc begins when the FL is 14 and her brother is 17.

Spoiler

Second arc (volume 2, ch 1-2) shifts to the capital setting, the prime minister and his scheming wife's residence. The FL and her brother are PM's di children from his beloved first wife, whom his current wife destroyed, so he found them and brought them "home" which is more like the serpent nest, cold and venomous, icky and dark.

On their way to the capital the kids met a group of assasins hired by their stepmom, the prime minister's wife. They survived due to sheer luck, actually. Some other travelers' team of guards defeated the swarm of assassins. And everyone is OK with that: their dad, their grandma, and everyone else. As if it was the most normal way to welcome the kids. As if having one of your wives and concubines mu*der the love of your life and kids is OK.

Presumably, the goal of this arc is to find the truth about their deceased mother and get revenge, to restore family bonds with their dad.

This is yet another version of relatives from hell so typical of C-novels. I really find it boring, all those madams&concubines, their arrogant servants and insufferable kids, all against each other and especially against the MC, slithering in the dark, all in deadly confrontation, driven by jealousy and envy, using million ways to humiliate, destroy or maim everyone else at home. Not good, not healthy, not warm nor enjoyable no more.

Add to this an extremely foul and coarse language that those noble ladies and noble maidens use while conversing among themselves and the text becomes not just boring but nauseatingly unappealing to read. After the FL entered thevimperial school for girls, the story became excruciatingly boring. I had to stop here and drop this novel's rating down to one star. It will only get worse from that point on.

It’s a great novel. The FL is the super heroin type so she doesn’t experience much character growth. There aren’t any satisfying face slaps but all villains (mostly) get their retribution. The ML is the wife adorer type. So the romance is thick and sweet though it takes awhile for the romance to start. The novel is full of cliches but written in an entertaining way.

A decent story, 3/5 stars. Not too bad of a read if you want something quick without going through hundreds of chapters like other stories where the FL transmigrated into another persons body and she becomes super OP and godly in medical, business, poetry, literature, martial, etc etc whatever you name it arts.

I'm never one to complain and usually have a pretty open mind regarding the age gap between the FLs and MLs in historical Chinese novels, but this one in particular I'm not really sure why but everytime I... more>> read the intimate scenes between the two, it makes me feel unsettled and a bit uncomfortable. It's probably because the FL was only 13 years old while ML was 18-19...

I know some reviewers were commenting on how it went all downhill after the time skip and when she moved into the capital and I can see where they're coming from. It's like, yeah, okay she wants to be low-key and she could care less about all these dogs barking at her cause she sees them as nonexistent petty beings that aren't worth her attention and time. But she literally lets them all walk over and treat her like sh*t lmao, it was so frustrating just reading through all those parts. Sure most of the stuff they do are just small annoying petty bullying and nothing serious but for the things that are a bit more serious, she's still just like oh-I'm-a-peaceful-being-look-at-me-not-care-but-you-guys-can-still-trample-all-over-me.

I do appreciate the fact that the story is quick and doesn't drag on and on but that can also be a downfall to some. The weird thing is they choose to opt the most important events out and chose to focus on exposing and 'showing off' if you will at the dumbest things. For example, I would've liked to see how her older brother gained those maids of hers, or how she started her restaurants and businesses up, and etc. Instead author basically just throws it at you that she's the mysterious owner and has shares in this superduperfahulousandfamousbusinesssodontaskwhyorhow and chooses to focus on going into details about these weird... almost idol like talent shows and competitions. Which I don't mind reading but it's not exactly why and what I really wanted to read. Because I kind of thought it was her from going from rags to riches, so if you thought it was gonna be like so, move along now.

Fortunately I think they did a pretty job at summarizing most of those important stuff (but the fact that they did this could mean they don't have much knowledge about it so they chose to just skip through it) and I was here for a simple and straightforward story anyways so it didn't bother me too much.

Oh and the fact that she used to be an assassin that knew medical terms, knew how to cook like a chefPRO, AND somehow knew how to play all sorts of songs and instruments. Like... what is her identity really??? So omnipotent??

The story and the characters itself is good to a decent extent if you don't have much expectations lol. There's not much to say but not much to rave about either. Would I recommend it? Eh, not really. You won't be missing out much if you decide to skip over this one. <<less
