alright, first of all. I did not read the novel here online, I read the paperback version that was translated and was already in my heavenly book store where I could read for free :v.

anyways, it was a clean romance novel about mo sheng and yicheng, and for some strange reason I really wanted to see some scenes of mo sheng with her ex- contract husband. It was a sweet novel, no evil green tea bit*h hanging around to destroy their relationship (good lord gu man rarely puts characters like... more>> that) The characters were realistic, but I was a bit annoyed
Spoiler

when yi cheng forced mo sheng to marry him so he wouldn't loose her again, which eventually I would actually be relieved about :")

It's not super heavy angst, but for some reason (maybe because parts of the story resonated strongly with me), it made me feel very strongly and deeply (I cried a lot). The romance revolves around the devotion between the two characters. The author was very good at expressing the kind of inexpressible frustration and pain both the main characters went through due to their past.

On the surface, it's a melodramatic romance about some past misunderstandings that forcibly separated the MCs, with points that were a bit overdone/exaggerated. But it felt... more>> very real to me; the MC's uncertainty and fear when faced with a chance to restart the relationship, her conflicted and fleeing behavior, her feelings of inadequacy. If you're not afraid of angst, this is a good story with cute side characters too. Happy ending! <<less

There were a lot of push and pulls, as our two leads try to come into terms with their feelings, their doubts, and insecurities... of each other.

I guess, in a way, it shows the ups and downs of being in a relationship, esp. one that is fundamentally labeled by society (or most) as incompatible. Here we see two people falling, trusting, being swayed by prejudice and pride, feeling betrayed, but still not giving up on each other until, eventually, they've cleared out all the misunderstandings brought by miscommunication between them.

The... more>> characters were realistic, their personalities well-defined, and the emotions they had well-written, be it expressed by their actions, the slight wrinkle of a brow, their monologues or their spoken words. I love the characters. You can sympathise with them. And I enjoyed it immensely. :>

As for the story, it started out really good -- a bit angsty, and poignant. However, near end, I feel like it was a bit rushed -- like how this issue just ended like that, and so on and so forth. Then again, considering the main conflict had been solved, I guess adding additional, perhaps unnecessary, drama in the mix would already be too taxing and might drag on the story.

In the end, I feel like it's already good enough. I have nothing majorly against it, so I rated it a 5. Overall, I enjoyed the drama very much. <<less

Ummm....

This novel was a poor attempt at the angst genre.

For me the reason was so s*upid and could have been solved in just one conversation. It also glorifies/ romanticises the toxic behaviour of the male lead that includes but are not limited to abuse, marital r*pe (almost) among other things.

... more>> Apart from all this, I usually read this when I want to read a dark and toxic novel.

I would request all to keep in mind that it's okay that we are reading this novel as a preference but please remember it is fiction and it is never okay if this happens in real life. Please don't get influenced by this novel. <<less

I've read some of the recent reviews. They got some points but they have to know this is angsty.

Regarding both the FL and ML, yes, they could easily resolve their misunderstanding but don't you think its easier said than done? You can't blame Yi Chen for being cold and indifferent after the push and pull Mo Sheng did, but you can't also blame Mo Sheng for pushing him away because she felt unworthy of him due to always bringing trouble then come back because she still loves him and care... more>> for him. It's hard to understand and you don't have to understand, really. You just have to know that's what human nature is, we are fickle and I think because of the mistakes or flaws of the characters, it makes them human. We are simpletons but our thoughts are complex. Misunderstandings are there to make the story flow, if you can't bear it then don't read.

The only thing that makes me feel irritated is how everybody is blaming Mo Sheng for 'dumping' YiChen like they knew the whole story. It is often said that outsiders point of view is clearer but in this story I don't think so, rather I think their nosy just because one of the greatest guy in their campus was dumped by this 'ordinary' girl. I feel sad for Mo Sheng, having to encounter all those people who thinks you're the bad guy. <<less

This story was quite good. It's kinda angtsy in the beginning but it's getting better in the middle of the story. Of course the story wasn't perfect. To be honest, ML and MC weren't my favorite couple.

Spoiler

MC and ML separated for 7 years due to misunderstanding. MC, who was often insecure by her relationship with ML, confronted ML about it at the bad time. At that time, MC's father (who indirectly involved in ML's father's death) just came to ML and ML, who suddenly came to know about MC being the daughter of her father's indirect mu*derer, blurted out harsh words to clueless MC. MC, who thought that ML didn't want her anymore, chose to run away aboard.

Both ML and MC heartbroken because of it. Both thought that he/she was abandoned by the other and it continued until 7 years later.

Actually, I don't quite like ML. He blamed MC for everything without self-intropection. He even let his friends admonished her when they met her again. And MC, she just let ML and his friend misunderstood her and didn't try to stand up for herself. To be fair, MC did try to explain to ML but ML always cut her explanation before she finished it.

ML really made me almost had a 2nd ML syndrome. Ying Hui was actually a good guy and he also really loved MC but he just came too late. It's also thanks to his encouragement that MC went back to China. To be honest, I prefer MC ended up with Ying Hui. He treated MC better and there's no past entanglement between them. Too bad, MC still loved ML.

It was a painful read until chapter 8. Yi Chen is tsundere-borderline-yandere, rude, controlling, kinda stalker ish, possessive - and Mo Sheng, a timid, childish, clumsy and submissive. Until chapter 8, their relationship feels quite toxic.

After reading chapter 9 till epilogue, Yi Chen was like a character that fulfilled female fantasy - successful, can cook, and spoiled Mo Sheng rotten. No wonder, on the first chapter, the translator describes how popular Yi Chen character on Chinese readers.

For most part, it is an okay story, the conflict mainly about emotional burden... more>> between ML and FL. Even Yi Mei and Hui Ying part that have potential to spicing the stories, was felt kinda bland.

Btw, shout out to the translator.. Their comments is interesting read. <<less

So this is one of the BxG Chinese novel that I read the offline version.

I don't quite like how heart breaking this novel is and I think FL and ML relationship is quite toxic.
Spoiler

this novel is so full of misunderstanding. I'm feeling sad by remembering some of the most toxic scenes. Fortunately, it's a happy end

I also think that side ML deserved an other half who truly loves him
Spoiler

not like FL who is still thinking about ML (while ML is already her-ex).

This is one of the firsts and best story I have had ever read.. others might not get how realistic those misunderstanding can be and this really happens in life. There are people who does not have guts, confidence, scared and pessimistic about themselves that can end with misunderstanding and then, when you got the confidence-- it's too late.

But, even after those misunderstanding, what I love about the ML and FL are their love; love cannot be compromised. it's either, them to be together or be single forever. That's... more>> great love. And I love it...

Maybe the reason I super love this is because I can relate to it. Been to a great heartache like this.. kinda similar only the difference is the ending as it end up well to them.. so as to say.. I super love this.

I love this and hope you are too... <<less

This is a short romance story about two lovers who after being separated apart by 7 years were reconnected once again.

I'm very much conflicted on the rate that I should give this story but translation was really good hence the 5 stars.

This is your typical novel were misunderstanding and miscommunication was the main point of the drama. The MC and ML both lacked proper communication - which made it easy for people around them to make a misunderstanding easily. They could have easily just sit down and talked about their... more>> issue 7 years ago and even at the present timeline. But no, the author wants unnecessary drama so let them pile up their misunderstandings.

But what I hate the most was how meddlesome and rude those people that are surrounding them especially the colleagues of ML. Who the f*ck are they to judge MC that easily? They don't even know her and they already judging her.

Spoiler

Both college friends and co-workers of ML were judging her at first sight. The ex-roommate even confronted MC without the knowledge of ML.

[collapse]

We also have the sister who was one of the reason of their separation. Girl got easily forgiven by the readers bec the main couple reunited. Forgetting the fact that she's a nosy and very selfish woman who thinks she knows the ML more than the MC.
Spoiler

She confidently tells MC the secret of ML (not caring what's the reason of ML in not saying it), that she loves ML, she's a better choice than the MC and even humiliating MC's relationship with ML. But once the MC was gone she didn't dare move bec she knows that she will never be love by the ML.

The plot really is interesting. What frustrates me are s*upid misunderstandings that can be easily fixed just by talking to each other honestly and express what you feel about the situation to the other person. Them dodging, hiding, and making a bigger mess of things is getting annoying

Spoiler

I decided to drop it when the female lead said to the male lead that she's married

"Short and sweet" but my goodness this was angst-y. Fortunately it wasn't angst-y in that typical way, but still good gracious. It's one of the stories that was pretty good reading the first time, but you don't have the patience and endurance to read a second time. It's also not that short; each chapter is quite long. I do love the overall message this author focuses on, which is that love is not necessarily glamorous or a fairytale. It's not all sweet. But that epilogue where they talk about "if... more>> we could go back in time" describes the essence so well; even though he's suffered so much, he's finally happy, and why chase perfection and risk losing their happy ending that finally happened?

In the beginning, you just think MC is so dumb and what the heck is she doing, but as her past unveils you start to understand and feel for her. Yes, she is dumb, but she's not the happy-go-lucky kind of dumb. She's suffered, and she's still trying to move on. ML is amazing and full of love, through and through. He's not good at communicating but he definitely feels it more than anyone.

What I like about this story is that things happen intentionally. Like there's no lucky coincidence where ML happens to overhear what MC is saying and that resolves everything, no. Basically, there aren't any lucky coincidences in the whole story (okay just one about the $500), rather it's driven by the characters, their longings, and their decisions.

Ying Hui though :' (I hope he becomes happy. And I feel so bad for Xiao Hong's ex (my guess is that he actually loves her but didn't want to tie her down). Tbh still hate the mother. <<less

Rate: 8/10 - I like the story. Good plot. But... Oh! I had mixed feelings about ML! ╮ (╯_╰) ╭

Story in a few chapters. A very simple story. The development of the love story starts a little slow, a little dramatic and bittersweet. There are confusions. There are misunderstandings. But there is a sweet happy ending.

ML: I don't like He Yi Chen. ఠ_ఠ He's very confused! LoL The sudden changes in his behavior and emotions is what really drives the story. An excellent lawyer: intelligent, ice-cold and rational. But... more>> when it comes to FL, he freaks out! He is aggressive, domineering, doesn't know how to show emotions and blame FL... Ah! He doesn't let her explain herself! But the love he feels is real and deep.

FL: Mo Sheng is independent, stubborn, persistent, optimistic, good person and not good at anything, except when it involves a camera. However, she is strangely passive. She suffers damage or injustice, but she doesn't respond, she doesn't react or she just runs away. She has no close friends, nor a family to look after her. She is a little bit lonely. She makes an effort to live and to work normally. But all of your actions and reactions are because of your feelings about ML.

The reader has to be a little patient with this couple. FL and ML are very dramatic. hahaha It's always the same problems of lack of communication... ╮ (╯_╰) ╭

Unfortunately, some characters that would be important, just pass by and don't leave many impressions.

The writing style of the author is really captivating. I have my complaints about the story, but it didn't bother me to read. The reading is good. ^^ <<less

I love Mo Sheng character, dense but not annoying. There is the typical push & pull but bcoz of angst along with it it didn't become boring. The only thing tho is that Yi Chen is not very expressive even after they reaffirm their love for each other, yes ik its his personality & demeanor but I just get sad when he's also treating her with his blizzard personality

I really enjoyed this novel. It was such a sweet and fluffy novel.

If you want something short and sweet, this is definitely a good story to read. The female lead although has the "dense" personality, she wasn't too annoying and you do grow to like her. The male lead can slightly be overbearing and a lot of things could have been solved if they just talked to each other, but their interactions were still really cute. It was good because the annoying phase of not communicating with each other didn't... more>> last that long to frustrate me to the point of wanting to stop reading. It was a nice dose of conflict and frustration to emphasize the cute moments between the two leads.

Definitely recommend if you want something short and sweet to read. Got my heart to flutter a few times. :D <<less

Heyi Shengxiao Mo

May contain spoilers

It's a nice short story to read. I would say that it is a fast-paced story compared to many others and because it's short plus completely translated I binged through the entire story.

... more>> The story mainly consisted of the couple just getting together, reminiscent of the past, with a few meet-ups, feelings of yearning and love. The angst was alright, it kept me entertained and helped me push through the end, nothing too bad.

I found that the characters didn't seem to be realistic, the female lead seems to become very meek in certain circumstances but other times she's quite straightforward and proper. The male lead was reasonably strange, given that he had been waiting for a few years and resolved what he wanted but still did not get together with the female lead straight away but continued to push and pull. I think that the author just wanted to add in more drama overall and it was a great decision for her, it spiced up the plot.

The translator did a great job, very readable, there are not any remarkable mistakes. The book is aimed to entertain young female readers who just love romance stories (totally not me) and the author did a remarkable job keeping me satisfied, nothing too bad.

Would I recommend?

Not really, simple plot nothing too unexpected but still read it! It grabs at your heartstrings. <<less

Another case of the female lead not having the opportunity to explain what she did and why. Sigh. I should start keeping a tally.

Other than that, it's enjoyable and the part where

the male lead forces her to make a choice between marriage and never seeing each other again, while admittedly heavy-handed at least cut to the chase and got a lot of angst/will-they-won't-they/drama out of the way.
