Finally finished!

The first part (first 700 chapters) is the best part, with the discovery of the world and cultivation principles, but the second half of the novel is much less interesting, the MC fighting "gangs" of young masters, and thus tones of chapters full of face slaping. Add to this the fact that the MC looses his strength at each start of a new arc, and it becomes quite annoying to read the same loop...

One of the main con is that after the first half, the MC uses less and... more>> less his "cheat" where many situations could have been resolved with him using this cheat. The MC becomes more and more bland, and less and less "cunning", and thus it feels like the MC more and more weak... I would also have expected the MC to use his "sword intent" knowledge more as in the first part (like the MC in Desolate Era), furthermore, explanations of the laws and great dao being much less "clear" and more "fuzy" toward the end.

Overall, this novel is quite bland compared to MW, like Stellar Transformation is bland compared to Coilling Dragon. Still, the first part clearly deserves 5/5, but the second half is only just above mediocrity. <<less

TMW is alright in terms of cultivation novels.

Pros:

    • The Arcs transition smoothly
    • Lots of exciting moments and turning points
    • MW references that appear more and more as the story goes on
    • Spoiler

IMO, after leaving the Ten Thousand Fey Heaven the story picks up a lot

      [collapse]
Cons:

    • Barely any character development for MC and others. Characters that seem as if they'd be important when introduced in a new arc barely do anything in that arc
    • Many filler chapters
    • Arc progression is basically moving from one place to another that is 1 level stronger
    • Spoiler

Many of the MCs best opportunities are handed to him by Lin Ming, the MC of MW, which we see more clearly towards the last arc

      [collapse]
    • Parts of the story that were foreshadowed are not visited again
      Spoiler

The Ancient battlefields Monument where you leave your name, the decimation tokens that iirc were left behind by Lin Ming (Yi Yun only got 2 out of 4), the broken yang sword's top half gets forgotten, lighting up the whole mirage sword, and likely many others that I can't recall at the moment

      [collapse]
Despite the many cons, I would still recommend TMW especially to readers unfamiliar with CN cultivation novels.

I liked the story but it seems to keep the xanxia tradition of a super rushed and unsatisfying ending. The MC goes from a sort of likeable to character to being overly arrogant. The arcs are pretty hit or miss. The Tai Ah arc is good and I liked the Myriad Sect arc.

There are quite a few things where it is hinted that the MC will return but it doesn't really happen. Also the MC from the prequel ... more>>
Spoiler

does not show up in person ever

[collapse]

How they handle the 3 artifacts was also super disappointing. You don't really get a good feel for how absurd the magic cube and orb are. Even the card feels like a passive ability and not a godlike tool. I also didn't like how Yi Yun learns all of his moves it feels kind of lame where they don't really grow with him and basically are OP the second he figures it out. Quite a few things are never really resolved until the very end.

That being said, the way the arcs transition are for the most pretty thought out ahead of time and there isn't a really jarring feeling like some novels. I also like that there is no harem in the story but the main relationship is just a dumpster fire whenever it is mentioned. Xintong is supposed to be super talented but she has 0 personality and feels more like a maid than a wife.

I still recommend the novel if you like the prequel. It has enough action for me and while it has flaws, it was definitely a fun read. <<less

Good LN but it's basically a long throwback to Lin Ming's adventure... first parts of the novel are good and I don't mind the number of tournament arcs as long as they are short and passable but later it takes on a bad turn... many things are mentioned but they are dropped like they weren't of any importance like the eye of the ancestor god in Yi Yun's planet... it's mentioned in a few chapters and then poof... gone... then there is the author's need to make him OP... gets... more>> the purple card which is basically the best cheat you can get in a human cultivation system if his universe... the card basically ensured him success in basically everything... he learns martial arts quickly, learns alchemy to the level of a highest state in just a few chapters and rather has no vulnerability... he always has the situation under control and there is basically no edge in this story... throughout the whole novel there isn't any worthwhile villain who makes him run or hide or at least hurt him... so the whole story is very bland and the he doesn't look for lucky chances... the come looking for him... espec especin the later parts of the novel and the one thing which I hate is that he uses a lot of OP treasures easily... like the purple card, he can use it easily from the initial chapter but as in MW Lin Ming had to wait till a good half of the novel was over to just get to know its use other than to store souls fragments, and that rusty sword of the godly monarch, this sword is basically a all escape pass out of any danger, ' He gets trapped, he swings the sword and gets free, he faces strong enemies and he slashes and the enemy is cut in half and many more

And the final arc itself is soo bad it's basically the 'Plot of ancient Devil' arc of MW with just tiny modifications here and there... and he doesn't even use his own strength to finish the last boss... He literally does the same thing as the bad guy and the universe, which I think is really on a way lower level than the 33 heavens of martial world, let him eat it bcz it was better than letting the bad guy do the same... it's like a bad guy tries to kill you don't want to get killed but the bad guy so you go and impare yourself in the good guys sword... so awful... and the fight was like a defltaed balloon... the bad guy was absorbing the daily of the universe, MC poked him during that time, bad guy severely injured, mchut him again, bad guy hurt more, MC does what the bad guy was found that is swallows world laws, becomes as powerful as bad guy, MC hits him a few time, bad guy dies... no drama no nothing... and most of all the bad guy doesn't even try to hurt the MC... he's like I'll wait till he gets stronger so he can kill me... he just sits meditating the whole time... no plot and no tragic stuff... go straight and you will win... <<less

This is one of those stories where the main character has basically gone through so many trials that it feels a bit repetitive. However, it should be noted that as he continues to grow and become stronger the overarching story becomes more connected with a deeper plot.

Unlike many stories I've read this particular one does not have a main character who just randomly hurts people. That said, he still is completely willing to devastate thousands and thousands of people if they are part of an organization that's actively trying to... more>> hurt, him kill, him take advantage of him so on so forth.

It does run into some problems with him gaining some abilities and never getting to use them because of how quickly he gets stronger. The biggest example of this (not to be a spoiler) is an upgrade he gets in the first world that shows up in every other upgrade from then on but does not actually get used in fighting.

It's not really a harem at either as he has a pretty straight up option to get a harem at several points inithe story and he declines. Women who are desperate to join him, random women of high-quality want to join them, but I read most of the story way beyond what's been translated and linked here and he has been very faithful to the one woman he chose. So for those complaining about this in the comments you should know that he eventually as far as I'm aware only has one woman but lots of friendly relationships with others.

Also while r*pe may be mentioned in the story, the main character does not actually commit such Acts which is really important to me, because it seems by some to be acceptable for r*pe to be accidentally stumbled into or is considered an acceptable reward for a battle and so forth.

There are some pretty good fight scenes, a lot of really good schemes that involve someone in a weaker position taking advantage of rules of the situation to overcome obstacles... Overall I feel like you would have a very good time reading the story. <<less

It's one of the few best novels, everyone should give it a try.

  • Mc's character is cool and without doubt is one of the few best MC out there.
  • Plot is well written and transactions between plots has been managed well here.
  • Harem is a part of the story but main story /plot mainly roams around a single heroine.... so don't expect too much romance/harem plot, family staff etc.
  • The reason why it's one of the best because the logic behind every action of MC is acceptable and the plots never make jump from here to there without any explanations.
Don't expect much but I can guarantee that at least till the first main arc (ending somewhere between 700-900), you'll feel like reading an awesome novel.

I've been following this novel since the beginning.

I'm quite serious,

I believe this novel is quite worth it.

Although the main character gets quite arrogant,

The story manages to send shivers down my spine when I read.

So take my advice and erase any doubt you have about reading..

(although this story does contain stereotypes, don't not-read this.

The translation quality is superb, it in done by CKtalon who also translates for Seeking the Flying Sword Path.)

It hurts me to do this. MW is my favorite novel as of now. I expected this to be carried over to TMW but it disappointed. The first couple hundred ch were great and fullfilled my expectations but after that it just went down. I think it was mostly the translators fault, although it was on accident. The translator caught up to the raws to quickly. The author was trying to put out as many ch as he could to meet the demand. The readers were used to at least... more>> 3 ch a day because of the fast releases. You could tell by how the author was stretching the ch as much as he could. Pity <<less

Would have given this a five star rating until I realised just how repetitive this story actually is.

The author seems to have an obsession with tournaments and the way the MC is constantly being ridiculed by those around him, can make reading unbearable some times.

There is character called 'Lin Xintong' that the author places heavy emphasis on for some reason.

... more>> At the beginning I understand that she is much stronger then the MC but 400 chapters in and she is still much stronger then the MC.

It depressing really, knowing the MC went through hell to build strength but somebody who has literally done nothing to get stronger and even has something wrong with her body is constantly one upping him.

You have to wonder why even bother trying to build strength, when you know the MC will never truly shine the brightest. <<less

Now here's a novel I don't know whether to rate highly or not.

On the one hand, it's got a very strong opening, has relatively steady growth of the main character's power (although as with all xianxia novels, slightly exaggerated growth later on), a surprisingly decent amount of time/effort put into setting up the world, the plot flows event from event relatively well and it's rare that any logical mistakes seem to happen.

On the other hand, it's thoroughly generic and basically is Xianxia copy pasta plot 101. It's (at least as... more>> far as I've read.) never outright bad, but it's also rarely presented anything that is unique to it (aside from the beginning which I felt was relatively creative in it's use of making MC op.)

I think what makes or breaks the novel for readers would be how they feel about certain side characters, since the overall plot is relatively generic, but that's ALSO a problem because side characters serve a purpose for an arc, then disappear for extended periods of time to come back... maybe 100 chapters later? Kind of a problem when you're relying on the side characters to make the novel not generic.

Additionally, although the events that occur along the trip are generic, there actually is a larger overall storyline that is visited once every few hundred chapters that ties together seemingly random/unrelated events together to make the earlier "coincidences" less coincidence and more "fate"/necessary. I personally think that's a very nice touch and reaffirms the final rating I gave towards the novel. That said, it unfolds painfully slowly and isn't a good anchoring reason by nature of needing to wade through several hundred chapters of "fluff" in order to get to more "major storyline".

I'm inclined to put 3 stars, but it could very easily swing to 2 or 4 stars depending on how much a reader likes the sidecharacters. I will say this though, the first 150 odd chapters probably won't disappoint. Everything after that relies on the reader and the sidecharacters.

Edit: Added in thoughts on the overall plot.

Edit2: lowered rating because now that I'm caught up, given the rate at which interesting plot relevant events happen, it's simply not worth reading most of the novel. <<less

Lots of action, cultivation and re-explanation of things already explained... Although some parts of the novel drag things on longer than they should, the world and characters are at least decent. Like other reviews mentioned, there is a lot of filler and it does get annoying at times but once you get past it, it fits well as part of the MC's adventure and experience. Not the best writing out there as the rules and logic of the world changes at the authors whim but as long as you leave... more>> your brain behind for a while, this could be a fun read. I give this a 3 for the contradictory writing and plot armor but I'd say it's still worth the read so give this one a shot! <<less

This series has a lot of good and bad reviews for a good reason. There are MANY parts where something that should be done in a chapter or less gets dragged out. As for the positives, it has a pretty good start and the female lead is very good. Unlike most Xianxia this is not a harem series (AS OF c530) however there is a bit of every girl kinda likes MC but not even close to the point that makes it harem. The battles are kind of repetitive and... more>> lackluster where the BIGGEST battle up until this point has been MC slashes with his bow, shoots the bow twice then slashes with his sword twice. It has that dragonball Z issue with slow battles that have a ton of talking and reaction of people watching followed by an episode of charging then an episode of shooting the blast you charged and the end of the blast takes place in a separate third episode. <<less

Honestly, I did not like this series from the start but had to give it a second chance to start enjoying it. I found that this novel has a lot of ups and downs, a lot of exciting moments and boring moments, which make it more appropriate for the wait and binge reading. Sometimes the combat/skills/training can be quite monotonous and boring, and other times it can be exciting. Sometimes the tournaments/contests can seem boring, and sometimes they can be funny and does great justice.

Not the best novel but the translation in impeccable. I like how each tier in cultivation there is something cool, not just some flat boost in strength and makes each stage more unique. Yi Yun is a decent protagonist, he doesn't think with his d*ck and isn't undesicive.

I find that this series is extremely enjoyable to read, the characters in this series are very unique and the author is very good at character building. Some parts of this series are extremely funny and had me laughing a lot. Overall, this series is very enjoyable, though the series seems to be lacking a plot other than the MC trying to be stronger.

This is quite nice novel. During action scenes I couldn't wait for next releases. But when action ceases there comes something that author can't deal right with. Trying to build plot using politics and scheming isn't something fitting, it made me not only bored but sometimes even pissed. Shame it isn't as interesting in that aspect like TTNH and other novels. Still quite decent novel to read. When there's action.

Well it's and entertaining story, and I would say that the MC is quite likeable, at least compared to other overly arrogant MCs like in TGD...

However, it seems like that the story thus far goes from one tournament to another and nothing else...

Spoiler

Tournament to get out of the village --> tournament to join the elite forces --> tournament to get into the rankings --> tournament against other empire youths --> desolate tournament in the Li clan...

[collapse]

Furthermore, the current events seems a bit dragged on (the desolate refining in the tea party), maybe because the author is currently having a case of 'writer's block'. This is the case where the author unnecessarily prolongs the story and describes everything repeatedly and in a long-winded way (Which I notice happens many times in other CN novels as well). I just feel like the chapter is written to fill in the need for the chapter that day, and doesn't really offer any sort of progress or development in the story.

Hopefully the story wouldn't get dragged on too much, and maybe one day, I'll change my rating. But currently, I can only give it 3/5. <<less

Ongoing series that has a world with enormous depth and we’ll balanced character’s. One of my favorite series at the moment. Throw in plenty of drama, comedy, horror and action then you have True Martial World. A strong MC that is not overpowered and has determination to succeed. Side characters that are so well done you can’t wait to see more of them. Villains who get what’s coming to them. Highly-rated and even more so highly recommended for readers.

Slow but good. Fights are worth reading, MC isn’t too OP (still OP though). The new arc seems to be a bit cliché, but I will accept it. The only thing I don’t like is that only 358 chapters are there so I can’t read ahead using MTLs, like I did with ATG, MW, BTTH, DD and so on.

Trying to nail down why I like this so much is difficult. It's not totally immune from all Xianxia tropes, but it is resistant, executes well and scratches that itch you want from a power crawl story. The mini-adventure arcs with the Primordial Herb capture and especially the Divine Wilderness exploration arc were great. The second tournament is a a particular favorite, I’ve read that arc over & over.

There's good immersive visual imagery; basic details, especially in fights, aren't skipped like in most Xianxia I've read. Fights are a treat... more>> to read because of this. I actually enjoyed reading the cultivation chapters, which is a change. The author’s writing seems to be improving over time; he also seems to be actually planning ahead. Interesting world building; not amazing but it doesn't feel as if the entire world revolves around the MC. Thought put into monsters doesn't feel as half-assed like in a lot of other stories. The story doesn't seem to be hell-bent on adhering to a re-occurring formula like many other long-running series do. MC doesn't exhibit negative personality traits. Obvious plot holes haven't reared their head yet (other than that one flaky imprisonment + spatial ring incident).

The power system has thought put into it; the different cultivation levels have meaning and isn't just a standard RPG level system in disguise. More importantly, there’s none of the half-assed rank vs rank descriptions during fights or just outright skipping fight sequences that plague other titles. At first the "yuan qi image projections" felt very illogical (how do they even work?) and video-gamey to me, but it's grown on me after the wow factor and interesting visual imagery after the second tournament arc.

As for negative criticisms, I don't have too many. Story starts off slow in the beginning chapters. Excessive pride seems to be a common trait exhibited by many antagonists.

Translators are doing a fine job, updates are regular and the series is caught up to the source.

----------------------------------

Edit:
As much as I don't want to admit it, the criticisms about the writing quality dropping after the Tai Ah Divine Kingdom arc (beginning of the Tian Yuan world arc) are valid. It's like Martial World all over again.

- Author basically sidelines all the world building and character development to date as he throws the MC into a new zone.
- Author constantly explains the obvious (word count filler), over-uses narration to describe the story (telling instead of showing, infodumps). Many chapters are made up of filler / summaries of past events. As a result, the story pacing has slowed to a crawl where very little happens every chapter. To even compare this to the second Tai Ah Divine Kingdom tournament where every chapter had an amazing fight is disappointing.
- Descriptions of locations, characters, etc which used to be a visually interesting positive now becomes a minus as they're often entirely skipped/omitted.
- Power system which was vague in the first place is ignored even more with vague law comprehension.
- Human antagonists/characters all begin to exhibit the same arrogant, douchey archetype. It's to the extent it makes you wonder why the human race is worth saving.
- MC's personality changes to an arrogant, overbearing type. Entire world revolves around the MC.
- Lin Xintong's personality resembles even more like an emotionless robot. Has even less screentime than before.

Changed my rating to 4 stars. Reading up to the end of the Tai Ah Divine Kingdom arc is still highly recommended (5 stars), but everything after is 3 stars (bordering on 2 stars for some of the more blatant troll chapters). <<less
