It's ok... lots of plot armor. The MC gets into crisis and at the very, very last minute, pull something out of his hat, figuratively speaking to save his ass. Or is it the other way? Pull something out of his ass to save his hat.

Once or twice is fine, but over and over and it gets old quick. The translation over at Wuxiaworld is meh. Literal translations at times, using the wrong words (vocabulary is stilted) and seem to be using "Ye Olde English" dictionary as the words... more>> are archaic. E.g. words that no one in the modern English speaking world would use, nor would they use in a normal day to day conversation.

I am trying to decide if I want to continue or drop. I might look for the raw and read that instead. I can't stand badly translated novels. Totally destroy all the fun in reading. <<less

I have read the first arc. Rating 🌟🌟🌟
The first chapter is fine and from there it takes the generic route of most of its genre with some of its own flavor, but this first arc ends well.
In my opinion there was only one unnecessary plot armor but the rest did give some clues during development. As for the first love interests of this arc was generic as well.

Edit 1:
Now I just started reading the second arc and I go to Chapter 131 and oh man, if you... more>> get there or you drop the novel or continue since that chapter was quite forced the developed and completely unnecessary.
I'll keep reading with low expectations.

Edit2:
I'm just going to say that chapter 174 was the worst of all, it was very poorly executed and it's a waste of chapters for such a conclusion, sigh.

Review second arc to chapter 174 (Incomplete arc) :

Spoiler

Author is afraid to innovate, he feels comfortable with cliches, even when he can avoid them. Seriously, he is afraid of being able to write something slightly different in the same setting that you as a reader have probably already read many times. This is done as an excuse to be able to create a new conflict in the protagonist that he will have to overcome, the problem is that it is not well executed that you as a reader will find it little credible.

Hence, the narrative level of the novel goes down in the second volume and the author only writes what he feels to sound great but without giving a previous background, which makes one as a reader unable to sympathize or connect with why this happens or with the characters.
The protagonist does not really reflect on his actions or rather it is not shown that something in him has really changed as character development, only an excuse is used that now that he is not more intimidated he will act as he pleases. And that's a problem because later in the second volume more excuses will be used to justify actions of other characters or story development.
Like any non-professional writer of this genre, he falls into the error of creating one-dimensional and boring antagonists in the second volume, although in the first volume there was not a really remarkable one, perhaps the prince was a bit interesting but unfortunately not exploited, the intrigue of the first about the conspiracy made up for it. In this second volume they only serve to show the protagonist how impressive he is.
If this second volume has a good point, it is the protagonist's dialogue with the two new love interests. But the problem is that the protagonist makes himself sound like someone who has experienced great tragedies or lost loved ones, but one as a reader can be confused since in the first volume the protagonist only had one loss which he did not really cry or scream he was only slightly surprised or saddened.
[collapse]

Its weakest point is the use of excuses.

I am afraid that the following volumes will not improve and will remain with the same quality as the second volume. So I will stop reading this novel,

As for the fights, they are of the japanese shonen type that make your blood boil, if you are someone who likes this type of fights I recommend it but if you are one of those who find it tedious better don't read it.

Note: The fights in the novel may improve but that would be it. <<less

Not bad, it was a good break from the stories where MCs are kinda scared of everything and all, and I think it's pretty good after the first book, so I think you should read it. You should first maybe give it a try, and look at his personality, and the troupes in the story, and then make your decision based on what you PERSONALLY think.

This is legit the most frustrating novel I've read. Nothing goes right for MC and a lot of that is his fault. He even knows he's causing problems for himself for no reason sometimes and still does it anyways. Whenever there's someone who he can help for no reason, he does. Even sacrificing very valuable things he needs for no reason. He doesn't always get the shorter end of the stick in every scenario, since most of the time he doesn't even get a stick...

The example that caused me to... more>> finally give up on the novel is when a treasure that can fix one of his biggest issues gets stolen, he actually helps the thief for no reason other than an empty vague promise of something valuable (they just say they will compensate him and don't say what they will do), then trusts them by putting them in a position where they could kill him at any time... <<less

This is your typical cultivation OP MC novel. But boy, it's addicting. I red 1100 chapters in only 1 week, usually I take longer time than that. This is a good read.

I don't know why people sh*t on this novel so much or why it has such a low rating. But this novel is one of the best that I have read in the genre. The MC is funny and I mean really funny, he is not afraid of killing and when he kills he doesn't jump around talking, he just kills. The world-building is very good. The dialogue feels very natural. The characters feel real. The fight scenes are extremely written, because of the MC uses a heavy weapon, you... more>> could truly feel the weight of each hit.

One of the unique things about this novel is that the MC does not leave his companions behind. He actually makes an effort to help them fight with him

A lot of criticism about the later part of this novel is how the MC turns into a hot-blooded idiot. But the novel actually has a very good explanation about this. In this world, the dao heart is very important, characters have died because of unstable dao heart and the MC's dao heart makes him unable to retreat in any way. The novel makes a really big point about, a really big point <<less

tired of reading the same dialog again and again. Plot was good. Story was good. Except for the repeating dialog. Its like just adding up expressions, and actions just to increase word count.

2.5/5 Stars The average baseline of cultivation novels

The first arc of the novel is just a normal cliche beginning middle big boss villain end development. Does not explain the 'grand scheme' or anything special about this novel. Other than what you already know about a typical wuxia, big vast world, MC has the soul of the Alchemy God and has a special cultivation method plot cliche.

First arc does a super poor job of grabbing the viewer attention of how would this novel be different than others. Not giving a character... more>> development chapter, nor detailed world view of the grand schemes, nor is there anything that would make it enticing. Would be considered the average of the average cliche wuxia.

Some novels show a grand background intro, some novel are really good at detailed character development, or some are good at bringing tension by the politics or plot twist. Not this novel, everything follows the books with cliches 'flow' of a cultivation novel of development.

The good part that started to make more different than other novels was the author brought humour into the MC's kit which I find refreshing. Some readers might dislike how the harem goes, some reader would wish for more plot, or character development, or some kind of 'thing' to hook onto making you like this novel, but there just nothing really to find. A princess of an Empire with caring personality? She'll have the "I trust you lines" that'll say to MC. Find a Stronger Martial brother person who is believe in only himself to be strong? He'll say the typical "join or me die" or "You are an ant" one-dimensional character lines and no development.

The author needs more plot twist, more depth about the world or something to make you want to know more, which could attract at least one type of viewer, but nothing really stands out other than the plot moving.

The author had a chance at one of the sub arcs

Spoiler

When he was sent to exile to the graveyard, they set it up saying no one of the 170+ chosen one ever made it back. The build up was good, the reason to exile him was good, but that whole plot just turned into a normal level up chapter with no drama, no real plot twists other than a disciple sent to kill him, which he solves in less than half a chapter. In the end, there was nothing to make it 'fun' or enticing. He just walked back to the Monastery and just nothing really to feel 'emotional' about.

[collapse]

Not enough to pull you in to read this, the pace and plot is just too normal. <<less

In a nutshell, it's about a very arrogant guy with anger issue who become completely s*upid after a slight provocation. MC has slogan that is to destroy anything that goes against him not even the heaven sparred. The harem suck and it's better to just dispose it and go full slaughter fest.

Anyway there are two things that infuriates me, first arrogant young masters/geniuses and the MC stubborn inflexible trait that can flare up anytime anywhere throughout the story.

This novel is very much inspired by perfect world if you have read you Wil know, ex __ his talent is taken by his relative for his son and after finding that his parent angered almost All powerful cultivator and then get captured now there son will save them, what a cliche start and there is difference and little bit new things in novel but I don't have time and patience to read it

First 110 chapter is worse part because of romance, MC personality is really shitty, he meet girl for 5 min and fall in love because she is kind and decide to be worthy of her 🤮🤮🤮🤮meet princess 2 times became lovers 🤮🤮🤮🤮

If you want to read this novel you want to have patience and time to waste on it because MC personality is shitty its frustrating I cannot bear to read more than 200 chapter, he have power to become core desiciple but they make him outer desiciple because the sect leader know that he is a heaven definer like son of luck who will be destroy by heavenly dao or overturn it, so he give excuse that don't give support to him let every thing grow naturally or we will be get karma and start veiwing his act every time like they are watching a monkey show they cabn protect him from many things what a lame excuse and MC is also like it is OK what does not I have not seen, bro MC has patience but we don't, he also don't like to do face slapping but villain came like dummy to get slap again and again there iq is really low, author and MC despise evil path like rituous is everything like they don't have feelings

World - 4 star

Cultivation level _ 4 star

Romance _ 1 star

Plot _ 1 star

Character _ 3 star

I also like to read his adventure but novel disappointed me again and again

Conclusion, _ waste of time <<less

You don't come here for the complicates story nor the complex side characters, this novel has little of that (but still some).

You come for the MC and the surprisingly decent writing. I rarely ever skip anything and the MC actions and words always leave me satisfied. He's not a saint, a great sage, or a demon, he's just a guy with his own thoughts, ambitions and problems. He doesn't go looking for trouble, but he isn't a rug for people to step over.

The harem is OK, but sometimes it feels... more>> like the girls are left on the background. It suffers from having too many side characters and not developing most of them. Though the author pretty much made it clear that the story is about the MC, not the others.

The comedy is f*cking hilarious.

If the MC were to be even a little bit inferior to what he is now, this would be a 3/5 at most. If you dislike his personality then this novel is pretty much not for you. <<less

NSHBA, the book is illogical, it was interesting in the beginning but the plot became worse overtime

MC get an otherworldly cultivation techniques and suddenly become the hope of the universe or sort, the expert keeps telling him that he is too slow and need to cultivate faster blah blah blah yet he has nt even left his continent talkless of the world

MC is practically OP the author just made him practically unkillable no matter who he offends even if they are 6 realms higher they wont be alble to kill... more>> him yet he said the heavens are against him

  1. MC trains a legion of people theat practically never lose they can fight for a whole year without recording any death due to some rubbish excuse of training their bodies and tempering it with lighting

EDIT: it got bad with time, enemies always get away, story got even more repetitive, and I dont like the overall direction of the novel now. I've dropped this and I'm also dropping my rating to 3 stars, it should probably be less, but I did get some enjoyment out of it.

--

ORIGINAL:

The start of it sucks, its way too fast paced, it almost feels like the manhua adaptation of a novel. If I had not been warned by the person who recommended it to me about the first arc being... more>> this crappy I would have dropped it within the first 10 chapters.

It gets better. After forcing my way past the first arc I'm very much enjoying the novel now.
    • I love the MC's personality and funny dialogue. The MC is unyielding, "victory or death", it is an integral part of his cultivation, so he can be a ruthless with his enemies and then a jokester with his friends. Some of the side characters have genuinely interesting personalities too.
    • The harem is kind of "meh", especially since it started during the rushed first ark so the first 2 members feel like cardboard, the later additions are a bit more interesting, but overall the harem leaves much to be desired.
    • Combat is a mixed bag, some fights are great, specially the ones against stronger opponents where the winning requires a bit more creativity, but some fights drag on, and the number of times that an enemy manages to get away can get frustrating sometimes.
I want to give this 3.5/5 but that is not an option so i'll round up. If it were not for the terrible first arc, and the bad smell that still lingers from it to this day, I would have given this 4.5/5 <<less

While I haven't gotten very far into the novel as of yet, this novel has been very refreshing.

I've read quite a few chinese novels and one of the most obnoxious tropes they employ is that every. single. side character has the personality of a brick.

While 9Star does have a lot of the usual suspects in plot development/tropes/etc, it's still a very solid read if you fancy these types of novels.

Here's to hoping after 100 chapters it doesn't go the route of Martial God Asura and turn into a massive pile... more>> of sh*t due to writer burnout.

Novels like 9Star and ATG make me furious that so many other promising chinese novels (MGA, TDG, etc) devolve into utter garbage from writers either getting lazy or disinterested.

Will this novel redefine your concept of all novels? No.

It's still a xianxia/Xuanhuan novel so it will always sits neatly in that "Guilty pleasure" niche, but it's definitely a better read that most of its contemporaries, with a dedicated translation team to boot.

Comparing it to other novels:

    • Solid MC, but the author didn't put much effort into expanding upon the MC's sudden turn in fortune, it may be explained later.
    • Diverse side characters, though not all of them are overly focused upon and some can be pretty shallow.
    • Dickish villains that don't overstay their welcome and are extremely satisfying to see them pummeled into a gory mess.
    • Can't speak much of the world building, but it's your typical fair of "Glorious empire, even more glorious sects", etc.
    • This can either be a pro or con depending on the reader, but it doesn't have much in the way of goofball humor like ISSTH and other novels that seem to be extremely popular to people. I don't like excessive humor in my novels, but that's merely personal preference.
Edit:

(Edit #2: The formatting went ti*s up on me, I apologize but I can't seem to fix the paragraphs.)

I'm now 200+ chapters in and my opinion still stays largely the same with a few caveats; Unfortunately the focus has changed quite drastically away from the battle-skills and the characters' physical/willful prowess.

This has culminated in relatively bland (or at the very least, streamlined) combat that lacks a bit of detail that makes fight scenes in novels 'epic'.

Not that epic moments aren't there, they're just less present than what has become my xianxia quality standard (ATG).

This next bit probably qualifies as a spoiler.

Spoiler

Like any review this is mostly personal taste, but I'm not a huge fan of how informed a few of the "old cultivators" are.

It detracts a bit from the experience when the MC does something completely outstanding and you've got these old f*ckers just nodding their head "as expected".

I will say that it's a decent enough excuse as to why the MC doesn't get much support, since it's fairly typical for a MC in these novels to basically have to depend on himself, no matter how outstanding he is.

It's always bothered me how an MC shows extraordinary talent, and the higher ups just throw him a bundle of string, some paper clips, and expect him to mcguyver his way through cultivation while putting their full support into absolutely scummy, useless "core disciples" or some such, only for them to get owned by the MC later.

[collapse]

Overall I'm still looking forward to future chapters, and it's still a cut above the rest of the tr*sh (F*ck you MGA.

Like a highschool girl on prom night you were my first foray and you were just terrible.

One strong thrust and a premature bust later then I'm left cleaning up the blood and cum)... and no, I have absolutely no intention to stop bashing MGA in every single one of my reviews.

Solely on the fact that such a piece of tr*sh is not only ranked higher than this series, but it's only 16-30 (month-all time) spots down from ATG which is a far more engaging story in just about every aspect.

TL;DR: So far, solid.

f*ck MGA.

ATG is probably a better read and has more chapters than 9Star but this novel has a lot of promise.

We'll see in 6 months and 1000 chapters if it still maintains its momentum. <<less

suitable for those of you who want to practice holding back emotions of anger and annoyance, the beginning of the story is quite good with a focus on alchemy and then martial arts, but as time goes on it focuses on martial arts and becomes increasingly annoying because there are too many characters with mental disorders from every new character introduced 10 /1 will be made hostile to the MC just because they are arrogant about their status then fight, can't beat the MC and say a lot of bullsh*t... more>> at the start of the fight then more bullsh*t before running away, the MC is not consistent with what he said at the start which will finish off his enemies without mercy, but What? Instead he toyed with his enemies and say a lot of bullsh*t again without really wanting to finish them off immediately and ended up having his own people targeted by his enemies while he was go away, and then what? Yup, he came at the last moment after that the cycle repeated itself, the enemy ran away/died - the senior got angry - the MC left - the MC's people became targets again. <<less

The MC is permanently telling himself to go back to the old him, the "fearless" him, the one that doesn't plan and does everything with power. Every, single, arc after chapter 1000.

Also, too many cabbages. At some point, you'd think they're smart enough to think a bit but naaaaaaaaah 💀.

I think i'll achieve nirvana or whatever realm this MC is trying to by continuing.

Well, I won't lie to you, there are many holes and cons which constantly make me annoyed. You know, like when you already witnessed a literal fu*king humongous creature which spans over the whole sky and could destroy millions upon millions miles of land with a wave of its limbs yet you got scared and heart shook by a damn fire whose owner could be said as slightly powerful than you. But I- no, I didn't really understand how could that actually happen. I just thought that our MC was... more>> fearless of death and experienced way more horrifying things than a petty schemer, a petty pretty boy and a 'holy' flame. I mean, I could accept it if he just thought it was impressive, but he literally had his heart shook. Haah... Sometimes I wonder if experience actually matters. If I put it into philosophy, then it would be like this "If you already witnessed a tiger, then you wouldn't fear a kitten."

That's just me venting out my annoyance. Let's get to the main point.

To be honest, in my perspective and personal preference, I don't really care if it was repetitive and whatnot, as I have no heart to slander a work that took thousands of hours. Definitely getting hate for this.

Essentially, if it excites me and could make me entertained, then why not? What's the point of not being repetitive if the story itself is boring? Okay, maybe that's me who's weird.

Anyway, if you're just looking for entertainment and not something different, then I guess this could fill your taste. But if you only find faults and search for something different and smart, stuff like that, then SCRAM! Why wasting time on works you don't like?

It's not perfect. I found faults that constantly make me annoyed and cursed the damn MC for being such a dumbf**k but he's hilarious. I was entertained, so I guess it balanced.

Most of the critics from other reviews are correct. But they overlook the blood-boiling fight and speech, so I guess they don't enjoy the essence of this novel. It literally wanted its MC to go against the absolute, the Heavens. Which is logically, technically, and essentially impossible. Standing arrogantly at the top and looking down upon all, with nothing to fear, not even the heavens.

Well, it sounds cheesy. But it definitely raises my morale.

It doesn't deserve 5 stars, but it does not deserve a 1 star either. Well, in the end, personal preference is what matters.

For me, well... I just enjoying this sh*t ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯. <<less
