Cannon Fodder Cheat System

Description

At first, when he learned that he was forced to go to many different routine worlds and be reborn into all kinds of cannon fodder, he was against it.

Because while villains usually all only have a moment of satisfaction, the endings of cannon fodder are also frequently quite miserable.

But the man who gave him the system told him that this system not only has all types of powerful functions, but he can also break the routine lives of the cannon fodder. If he achieves this satisfactorily for each world, he can even become a god.

He’s already experienced over a thousand reincarnations, but hasn’t yet been a god. Since it sounds pretty great, why not just try it out.

From that moment on, he began the irreversible path of tyrannically oppressing people, while conveniently tearing open those white moonlights and so-called righteous people’s hypocritical masks.

His goal: wearing the villain’s role to walk other people’s righteous paths, leaving them no path to follow.

One thing: It's not FOD. Like stop comparing every QT to FOD it's a bit tiring. Not every QT novel should be compared to it just because it's QT. Since QT and time travel were created much earlier than FOD. This said not in defense of the novel itself, but this comparison befalls on almost all QT novels.

Now, back to CFCS. Tangerine Boat to me as an author always manages to float in the middle, but not the golden middle, they float between going downhill with their writing, but at... more>> other time they manage to write some good and lively ideas. At times I wish they'd improve their wording or would take a break when they feel worn out or simply would think through the entire novel instead of being hasty. This resulted in many weird, incomplete pieces, which to me ruined the characters and the novels overall.

CFCS spawns across full 15 arcs, which is quite a lot, but not really, I think this amount is quite satisfactory when it comes to QT, I like different worlds and stories. But there are some places you might find good or bad it's up to you.

CHARACTERS:

  • MC. At first we don't know what type of entity he is. We only know that he's been reincarnating for a very long period and his lifespan got shorter and shorter. Although he didn't remember his lives not to get insane, but his soul was aware of reincarnations. The motivation to continue was rather weak, that someone is waiting for him and MC was attracted to the given jade, so he decided to go on. With only difference, now he will remember every life and will have a system by his side to help. WHAT I DON'T LIKE. Is that the system is used extensively at first, but honestly it diminishes the value of MC himself. I do like OP characters, I do like fate-changing stories, because they're inspirational. I don't like when MCs are made to go through sh*t and be miserable "just because". But I like characters that are smart and bring in something with their wits and charms themselves and it's not something that was enhanced by the system like here. Some things he can do himself, but most the time he uses the system. The problems start in later parts, since ML starts to intervene in the problm-solving all the time MC starts to leave it all up to ML more and more, while he himself enjoys the life and openly gets lazy. And when something happens not in accordance with how he's used to (e.g. The scene where ML thought MC was a spy and he basically was doing what he's supposed to do) MC claims it as "when have I experienced such grievances?". I mean, he should be ready for some hardships/situations, right? He's not a snowflake. Also because you just receive the info of the "previous life", which is not particularly detailed, except you can hear about how vicious the cannon fodder is, but MC's revenge goes beyond that. Sometimes it's truly justified, like in many cases original host did nothing to deserve his fate. But sometimes MC goes after people that weren't described as super hostile, but they get so much vicious sh*t from MC, that it just smears his character. I just don't mention why he ended up reincarnating, it just made him into someone who lacks in the brain department.
  • ML. He was done dirty. Like we all. Thing is there is/was a period when overbearing, posessive MLs who forget everything when they fall madly in love was a thing. Unlike MC who needs that "special" feeling of his soul being tugged/s**ked in, ML falls in love at first sight, sometimes it backfires on the story. Their meetings and firsts sometimes are really too fast, the story might portray it as fate, but from the worlds' point of view MC hooks up with a man in power really easily and allows many things making him sound a bit cheap and ML, as a man in power doesn't even give a chance to refuse (which is why we have the tw r*pe). So yeah. Oh and let's not forget how ML is created in this lust machine that never stops, as if they have no other life except f*cking. I found it so ridiculous when author described some hugs were described as "there was no lust in them", I was like rolling around asking WHY would you describe it that way, can't you be more poetic, describe some tender love and gentle hugs, comfort. So many good descriptions are simply thrown out from author's vocabulary. It feels like author had nothing to write in later parts, so the love making parts became abundant.
  • Cannon fodder. By the time you reach the middle you start to realize some of the hints (or you make them into hints) that although the cannon fodder acts against MC all the time and share the same mentality, it actually becomes clear by the end of the novel why the cannon fodder is the same, acts the same and has basically a single essence. Though I bet for many it was a bit hard to continue when this cannon fodder is so one-sided and doesn't change. He is selfish, he wants to rob MC of everything, he doesn't have much talent himself except for scheming, holds no remorse to things he does, never blames himself but everyone else. Though sometimes I think the way MC acts and what he does along with ML reaches to pretty cruel heights, which are not that necessary. I find that when MC sometimes faces this cannon fodder he becomes too vengeful and lacks style.
STORY (pros and cons hand in hand) :

  • The entire story spawns across full 15 arcs, which is good or bad is up to you.
  • The worlds are pretty different. It's a pity to me when the world is given a single notion, like in this world they care for this or that the most (like ppl are crazy for music, or live broadcasting or anything else of that sort), which is quite flat and shallow. While other worlds don't keep on dragging after that. In the last 1/3 you see how stories don't really matter, the process of MC's recovery gets accelerated, but it also involves several wordls and it gets quite flat.
  • Sometimes it really lacked in the description department to me, worlds themselves as well as how MC and ML looked like. Unparalleled beauty and handsome are usually your only descriptions.
  • From one side it is a face-slap story with MC's aim to live well, but before you get to know the reasons you might get tired of how the cannon fodder acts and does the same thing over and over again. He's not as good as MC, not as talented, selfish and vain and has only schemes. Though he could actually become better, but his aiming after MC is his obsession blocking him from becoming better. Only reaching middle/later parts you realize "oh that's why the cannon fodders feels like the same person". While "original hosts" are really unguarded fools tbh.
Anyway, at first when I read it, it didn't feel that bad, but later I came across truly bad stories, or those that are not my cup of tea and this story simply moved to the middle of not bad, but not good. <<less

I honestly don't understand some of the low reviews for this story. It was amazing! I was s**ked into and could not stop reading. Yes, the main characters are over powered but they always are. It would be more annoying if they truly struggled with beating down the people that they are supposed to get revenge against. My only complaint is probably the "translator notes." They were pretty meaningless in my opinion. They explained phrases that didn't really need to be explained, like "karma" but other than that this is... more>> five out of five for both the story and the translation. <<less

Lately, the original protagonists i.e. the turned-antagonists of the story after MC came, all have their IQ dropped and muddle-headed into self-destructing themselves...

The MC's dilemma of not knowing if this "handsome and strong guy" who is chasing after me is really my lover or not, tbh is very blandly done.

The conflicts sometime got prolonged just for the sake of slowly "falling from grace" of the bad guys. Really when the same tropes were used again and again, it became boring. In addition to ML's excessive protection and help...

Anyway,... more>> it's fine if you don't mind too much and enjoys the promised retributuion.

Edited status: c222
Now MC could discern and met ML quickly a long time ago. Then the same repetitive counterattacking using cheats to be above the protagonists + knowing the plots and the Pt well enough who again degenerate into s*upid villains whose IQ and EQ were lowered into self-destructing.

It also hinted the cause of these repeated reincanations
Spoiler

Well, it hinted MC that not only him, but his lover who accompany him in reincanating (which MC is struck doing it so not to die, consolidate himself, and return to 99 heavens where his 'mysterious lover ML' is forlornly waiting for him while dealing with sth), but the Ex-protagonist-turned-villian seem to be in this as well. Like they're destined to fight each other for their own HE.

Probably, related to a love triangle..., but actually a love rectangle??

Yes, now Pt is lovestruck with ML and is being temperamental while regaining his insanity and pieces of previous w memories (yup, s*upidly crazier, but his role also ended there).

Another novel where r*pe is seen as romantic and possessive. I mean, seriously? I was reading this book as a way to kill time and this was a huge turn off. Would've given 2 stars but the translator's work is amazing so 3 stars

As many people have said in the reviews, this is like Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, except the protagonist is both OP and boring as hell. He's not getting transmigrated into different stories, but different worlds. He doesn't become a cannon fodder victim or villain like the summary says, but someone who was wronged and really deserves justice. That would be fine in itself, I love that sort of story, but in that situation, the villain he needs to take justice against has to be interesting. Usually, this... more>> is done by making the villain appear to the world as a hero or victim, the antithesis of the main character who's usually seen as scum and tr*sh until the villain is tricked into showing his true character. That's... what they try to do, and in actuality it's how it is, but the way the other characters think are too flawed to be taken seriously.

Ah, how should I put this? Okay, we've all read fanfiction. We've all read bad fanfiction written by someone who absolutely despises a certain character that really shouldn't deserve it, and throws out all the stops to make us hate them too, getting rid of all their good and redeemable qualities (like Kagome's archery, Hermione's brain, Tohru Honda's gentle and kind nature, etc.) and throwing a bunch of sh*t into them that hadn't even been hinted at in the source material (Kagome's a Dom Yandere who wants to own and possess Inuyasha, Hermione is easily offended and chooses to retaliate by mu*dering Ron's whole family while he is forced to watch, and Tohru Honda, possibly one of the most innocent and pure characters ever created, is a loose woman who plays the field and taunts those she abandons (Kyo in this particular fanfiction's case). It feels like the writer went into this with the same mindset. This lot of villains are just a bunch of cardboard cutouts with loose agendas and lame motives.

"Hey, Ichigoeater!" you might say. "No one reads these for the plot! No one cares about villains and side characters, we're here for the smexy action between the two leads!"

In that case, you should definitely skip this one. There's worse yaoi out there, sure, and at least this one isn't r*pey, but very predictably, if the MC is a boring, uninteresting character, the ML will be the same. Because they have an instant 'soul mate' connection, they pretty much always immediately get together as soon as they meet in each world. Neither have to work for the other, and even if their smexy times were descriptive (they aren't), it wouldn't make up for the fact that I have no investment in their relationship.

The translation is good and the story isn't terrible. I'll say that to throw it a bone. However, when you have stories identical to it but done so much better, this really fails to entertain.

Here are my recommendations of what I feel are better versions of this same story: Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil (duh), Heroic Death System (an element of tragedy and drama thrown in, nice), As A Minor Gay Rival in Het Novels (not the best, but still better than this), It's Actually Not Easy Wanting to be a Supporting Male Lead (unique in that the ML also remembers every world, and he is infuriating, which is wonderful. Also, the system itself has a character, which is also wonderful), and There Will Always Be Protagonists With Delusions Of Starting A Harem (this one I find most similar to Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, but he's not always reincarnating as a perceived villain and the protagonists he goes against don't always have evil intentions, adding a layer Cannon Fodder Cheat System sorely lacks). <<less

Honestly, it's not terrible, it's a passable read but compared to all the other similar genre novels this one is nothing special. In the end, even though it's called cannon fodder cheat system, we don't really see anything of the system (other than when it makes MC OP).

Plot: 3.8/5

The settings are interesting enough but nothing special. Most importantly, that system doesn't actually appear that much but just makes MC too OP. Like, they're in a world where musical skill is most important; MC has the system give him amazing musical... more>> skill, oppressing all others and happy ever after. In a world where gaming is the most important; MC has the system boost all his attributes, oppressing all others and happy ever after. There's no other exploration of what it is, just that it gives MC OPness in anything. Because everything happens so easily and predictably, we don't actually see that much of MC's scheming or plotting, but basically just crushing through brute power.

The settings are also too strange. Like in one world, musical skill is actually EVERYTHING. In another, they're stuck in a game and they'll die in real world too if they die in the game, but even though they can contact people outside the game freely for some reason the operators still make them fight battles?? Instead of just safely waiting for rescue.

Characters: ?

Honestly, the way the story is written, it feels like you're just reading about the situation happening around the MC. We don't really see his thoughts, and since he kinda plays a different character in each world, I'm not really sure what type of character MC is. Like yes he's vengeful and scheming-but-not-really, but there's no character development at all. ML is very much the class possessive and absurdly in love type, but he's less tyrannical than other MLs in similar genres. Their relationship is pretty typical of this type too. Basically falls in love on first sight in each world; seriously, I wanna see more of the falling in love!

Writing & Translation: 4/5

Translation is decent, I haven't found any mistakes. Writing feels like I'm just watching a scene, not really feeling anything. <<less

there is quite a lot of repetition in this novel and almost every arc ends exactly the same way. That being said, while the story had the usual arcs, it also had ones that I haven't seen before and that was a nice change. This had a lot of worlds and honestly I would have preferred they cut some out and expand on the ones left to give it a little more emotional depth because the whole story felt shallow and superficial and the bad guy in each world were... more>> very predictable

Spoiler

and world after world he never learns his lesson so he repeats the same mistakes over and over again

[collapse]

it was a good enough read but nothing in it moved me enough to become emotionally invested. I neither loved nor hated the MC and ML, and neither of them had any flaws or faults to make them more interesting or unique. The MC enacts revenge because that's what his body wanted, not because he's invested in it or trying to fight back against something bigger. He can preform all those skills flawlessly not because he worked hard but because of system assist. In the end I think I preferred the story where the MC would spend 20 or more years in the training space between worlds learning to master a skill, rather than just having the system do everything for him. There were some unanswered questions regarding the system (or my eyes were too tired from MTL and I missed it) and the ending was also middle of the road for me.

this very superficial in comparison to some of the other quick wear novels but it's also less likely to offend others (no kinky yandere ML or sex-crazed MCs who have to pretend to cry while being happy on the inside). There's also little to no humor in it. <<less

This is a Quantum Leap type of story where the protagonist jumps from one body to the next with a reincarnation twist and (according to the translator) BL smut (which was a surprise as it doesn't even come up until late in the first arc).

The translation quality is a bit jarring as the translator chooses to go with shortening character names (like ZXH instead of Zhen Xue Hue) when there are way too many characters to even know who that's referring to. This is also machine translated so take the... more>> translation itself as you will.

The storytelling... is boring. Mostly "and then" type of storytelling where there isn't really rising action or conflict as the protagonist doesn't really feel invested with what's happening or even struggles changing the destiny of the people he takes over. This can be credited to him being made OP (as someone who has lived multiple lives and has the experience from them can't be easily shaken by much). It tries to humanize him as saying that even after all those lives his skills are only average at certain things but then the "system" maxes out his skills as needed limiting his personal development.

The first arc feels underdeveloped and misguided as the title is gourmet but has very little to do with food and more to do with family drama. It seems like the author overly relied on the drama to keep the story interesting than the supposed centerpiece of the story- the food.

Overall, this seems like something to burn through in it's entirety in a few days than something to wait for. <<less

Started out interesting, however it quickly became repetitive and unimaginative. I think the real struggle with QT novels is writing a compelling, overarching plot that ties the various worlds together. If the author doesn’t do this it ends up being a series of random short stories. Outside of the initial chapter I still am waiting for the development of the over arching plot. So far, at half through the novel, it is unclear why the MC is doing all of this. There’s no cohesion outside of this mysterious person who... more>> is facilitating the transmigrations. Without reading further I am almost positive this will end with the last arc suddenly explain everything in a slapdash manner.

The second point for giving this a one star review is the characters. We have a superficial understanding of the MC and their personality. The ML appears quickly and instantly falls in love with the MC. The antagonist are utterly evil and vapid. They supposedly ruin the MCs life in each ark until he makes the smallest counterattack and then they are destroyed. Their reactions to the MCs counter attack are ridiculous and simplistic. Overall very one dimensional and boring characters.

If you are looking for an ultra dramatic revenge p*rn type of story enjoy. However, don’t expect much from the plot. <<less

Similar to "Beloved husband"... And that's it... I read this a couple weeks ago and I can't remember the plot, it's well written but a little generic with the op MC that is a cannon but in every arc after 5 minutes he gets rich, skinny and beautiful.

ML is perfect in all aspects as any other ML (but is that a bad thing??? For the sake of high expectations irl I'll allow it 👍)

(clearly I can't remember wtf with the r*pe tag so... that's why the ML is... more>> "perfect" I just remember the fluff so don't mind me) <<less

I liked the first chapter.

MC doesn't care about coming back to a place and to someone he doesn't remember anymore after thousands of reencarnations. For some reason, his soul can not be dispersed as he asked for, nor he can keep going with reencarnation cycle. Then, from nowhere, Yama (translator named him as Hades, no, thank you!!) propose a solution, a new cycle of reencarnation, this time, retaining his memory of every life. Just like MC did, I wonder, why this couldn't be done before.

Next, the depressed and... more>> bored MC starts his journey and boom, he's full of life and determination. Humm, I don't think so...

Next, many arcs with basically from same mold. Actually, some of them can be skipped 'cause you already have read basicallly the same scenario before, white lotus illegitimate/adopted son stealing everything from MC, and the following faceslap/cut family bonds...

It doesn't seem to be the first novel written by Tangerine Boat, but it lacks the hability to keep your curiosity about who are MC/ML. Almost every arc ends with MC thinking to himself, "well, again not even a clue about who I am, where I'm from, who's waiting for me, why this endless reencarnation/transmigration" :/ <<less

Very repetitive in each of the arcs. Little chemistry between the MC and ml, its always love at first sight and they dive into kissing and getting very physical almost immediately each time they meet. Because of this, their relationship doesn't have much development and you can't truly see them get along.

I also find their revenge quite childish. Always violent, not very smart. The ML is also needlessly violent. The antagonists almost always end up being tortured or dealt with by the ml.

For someone wanting something mindless to read to... more>> pass the time, this is probably a good recommendation. If you want something with well developed romance and plot, this probably not for you.

If you have read qwtfotd you will find yourself reading this and automatically comparing it and they may add to your disappointment. <<less

TL;DR: 1-3 r*pes per arc, rinse and repeat.

As a genre, QT has repetition built into its raison d'etre, but what makes it good is the author's ability to keep every iteration fresh. The best-written ones are like Beethoven symphonies, stacking interest and agency with each cycle. The worst ones are like stores hiding slightly rotted fish -- not worth staying for once you discover the strange smell.

This one is, for lack of a better word, perfunctory. The author is content to write the same basic tropes (eg. R*pey ML) over... more>> and over and justify his laziness by building it into the plot logic. Beyond their monstrous selfishness, the characters are blank-faced mannequins jerking limply across thirteen or so crudely-sketched rooms. Even the smut is perfunctory.

Worth reading? Only if the library is closed. It's not reprehensible beyond the scope of belief, just lumpy and tasteless. If you have something better, read that instead.

I don't know if i've read a lot of extremely good novels but this is not it.

  1. The most disappointing thing is the writing style for me, it's extremely bland, very very bad written. It's as if the author is just stating what happened with linking words. MC did this and antagonist thought that so antagonist did this and MC did that, this happened and then this happened bla bla bla.
  2. The romance? There's no romance, the author didn't bother to put any feelings into it. The MC meets ML →lock eyes→ fall in love→censored papapa.
  3. The characters are too one dimensional, they have no brain they're just there to make the MC look good, it's extremely boring and frustrating.
I wish this was done better, it had so much potential yet it flopped.

I... more>> gave it 2 stars because the translator did a good job, I really recommend them <<less

That was... actually bad?

Like... what cheat system? The system is used but it's barely mentioned.

It should be called cheat lover's golden tight. It's exactly what I don't like in many "strong" FL novels. MC is said to be smart, powerful, strong... but as soon as the ML appears... ML uses their uber op power to save, help, pamper and f*ck them senseless. Solving everything for them and making them appear utterly useless.

The mc's personality actually devolves. He gets less and less likeable with each world. It makes you question his... more>> decisions and think dang what a dumb move.

The start is confusing and the ending is... disappointing. <<less

Currently at arc 7 and the only r*pe so far was when the ML was out of his mind due to being contaminated by demonic energy and afterwards he was very remorseful and stopped himself from going all the way some time afterwards because he was afraid that he’d left a shadow on MC. We’ll see how much r*pe there is in the later arcs but so far I’m wondering if I’m reading the same story as some of the other reviewers. Reminder that consensual non consent is still consent... more>> and something that many, including myself, enjoy ;) (And no, I’m not the one that “forces” ;))

Despite the premise being interesting, I think the story fall flat. As several other reviewers mentioned, the MC is too OP there's no reason I'd feel anything for him. The other reviewers already form a good summary of the ridiculousness of the system so I won't repeat it again. Not only him though, I think every character is just... there.. no interesting character, no good backstory, just someone who is either useful or bad to MC. But I have to say, after the first arc I really can't feel bad... more>> even to the original body owner that MC took over because they are just.. repeating the same thing basically.

It is apparent from the first arc how the flow of the next world is going to go and I have to say there's no challenge in it and therefore no character development for anyone. I think that's the second reason I dropped it. After a couple chapters to start every arc, I don't feel any emotion reading it so my enjoyment is greatly diminished.

I think this novel can be enjoyed if you just like a straightforward story with a quick plot, but it is not for me. <<less

Good novel, but a bit bland compared to the more stellar works in this genre. The MC is OP and the ML is super OP! 😅 But that's common in many QTs. We get some hints about the relationship between the MC and ML in the beginning and then after 130+ chapters.
Spoiler

it seems the antagonist is also reincarnating with the MC & ML and does not have any memories like the ML. I'm assuming the situation is similar to Holding onto My Man or Heroic Death System where the MC, ML and antagonist shares previous history. Probably the antagonist also liked the ML. That's the vibe I'm getting anyway.

[collapse]

The arcs are okay. The author doesn't go in-depth into their characters, making our understanding of the MC & ML quite shallow. But the arcs themselves are enjoyable with plenty of face-slapping.

With that in mind, I don't like how the antagonist is shown to be increasingly dumb. He didn't seem as foolish in the first few arcs. Maybe it's beacuse
Spoiler

the overload of memories is causing the antagonist to be neurotic and unreasonable

[collapse]

Tl;dr: fine for a light read but not too deep. Good smexy scenes but not very detailed.

I came back to reread this and it's better than I remember it being. I recommend to those looking for a QT where the MC had no problems and always wins, ML is super doting, and it's a HE.

Update 3: I'm a fan!
Spoiler

LOL the very end part tho. Sounds like ML could have helped MC's father bring back his mother faster but didn't because ML wants to be with MC 😂

Update 2: The writing gets better with each subsequent arc - I can see the author improving. The ending explains everything. In hindsight, it almost feels like the beginning is simple because as the reader, we're unknowing of what's going on just like the MC.

Update: So I'm rereading this again because I don't remember this one at all. The points I made in my original review still stand. However, it's better than I thought. The arcs are pretty interesting but it for sure seems to read like a summary. There isn't enough dialogue and everything goes too smoothly. I do like the pampering that the MC receives from the ML. So it's definitely not the worst QT I've read and also not the best. It's just decent.

Original review: Much of the arcs seem to be like reading the summary of a story rather than reading the story itself. It's good for some easy smooth sailing mindless reading. The main plot doesn't really make any advancement until a loooooot later like after chapter 140ish. Overall I still enjoyed the different arcs. The translations are pretty good.
