Cultivation Rank is roughly the same as other similar novel (too similar in fact)
Personality Building is A
Inter Relationship with Minor Character is never dull, so another A But why is it rated 3 star?
For just one reason, it is by far the most insanely detailed novel I've read, similar to how you waited 5 minutes for Son Goku to cast his Kamehameha.
Sometimes it's a totally useless description which does not improve the plot line (because some of them die the next chapter when the author takes his times to mentioned the villain in detail in the previous chapter). Nonetheless, it's a fun ride. I would still read this to the end and come back to rate this review again once the translation is done.
- Pros
- Minimal petty conflicts: for example, the standard xianxia formula of MC offending arrogant young master at an inn or auction triggering escalating feuds with stronger enemies is completely absent. The MC is very cautious, ruthless and decisive and there are virtually no such random calamities striking him like this. He doesn't stick his nose in others business easily unless there are benefits outweighing the drawbacks.
- Author's attention to detail concerning the past: there's a real sense of historical continuity in this series. even very minor characters and events that appeared thousand chapters ago might be briefly referenced in passing far later. I don't mean that they become unrealistically relevant, merely that a thought of such a character or event might flit through the mc's mind when it seems appropriate. for example, some random qi condensation disciple that he exchanged a few lines with might be wistfully recollected when the MC passes through the area countless chapters later. this makes his lived experience feel real and rewards the reader for sticking with the MC on such a long journey. I have read other cultivation where it seems whole stretches of his life and everything they experience are never again mentioned again once he advances to a new area or realm.
- Cons
- Lack of antagonists inspiring reader detestation: one of the selling points of cultivation is the comeuppance that hateful enemies get once the MC becomes powerful enough. these people could have seriously persecuted or hunted the MC or his loved ones or plotted against them at every turn when he was weaker. in this series there's nothing like that, there was basically no enemies that I got a cathartic release from seeing eventually destroyed. the mc's conflicts are focused on benefits and costs and don't arouse any feelings from the reader. there isn't a single memorable villain besides maybe the one from the first 50 chapters...
- Unfulfilling war arcs: this is related to the earlier point but there are a number of war arcs the MC is involved in that are boring and conclude unsatisfactorily. the MC never actually deeply harms or ends up destroying the opposing faction. instead, on several points, the trope of having a new, greater thread binds old enemies together. that isn't very fun to read. after reading countless chapters of a bitter conflict where numberless of mc's allies have died, suddenly, MC and his remaining allies join with the enemies to fight the new menace. this happens SEVERAL times. there's no sense of triumph for the MC as a result of these war arcs.
- Pacing issues: the time it took before the MC ascends to the higher realm was simply far too long. everything felt a bit rushed near the end.
Overall, this is one of the most consistent cultivation novels I've read. There aren't any big dips and rises in quality.... more>>Other CONs: It becomes so repetitive, Run, time shift cultivation, run, boring fights, run etc.
Limited places, it doesnt give adventure feeling, poor man-woman relationships. PROs : No dumb silver spoon young masters, no s*upid conversations, narrating is okay also. Thats it. I give 3 stars for 1000 chapter reading time
