In the dreamer’s dream, the dreamed one awoke.
— Borges

“I exist between the heavens and earth, in the sunlight, in the wind, and in dreams.”

One night, Yu Hao, a college student who was at his wits’ end had an unexpected encounter with a mysterious visitor – “General” – who had dream travelled. He led Yu Hao in solving the countless riddles that abounded in the realm of the conscious, and lit up the fire beacons on the meandering Great Wall.

Thereafter, the darkness retreated, the sun rose, and when the long night was thoroughly lit up, the him who existed in reality was reborn.

The black dragon that roared, the lighthouse and demonic eye on the coastline, the rain forest before Chichén Itzá, the fierce beasts that wreaked havoc in the Colosseum…the bizarre projection of reality in one’s consciousness reflected the hidden place that the sunlight in reality couldn’t touch – the innumerable sins of the human heart.

The journey of seizing dreams continues, and one can only hope that the sun will continue illuminating the human heart.

——

Fire beacons on the Great Wall were lit up to signal a border invasion.

There are more detailed reviews and I don’t want to repeat anything so imma just summarize everything:

  • Developed, well-rounded, realized characters. Anyone could relate to any character and the large cast does not deter your immersion in the story. I love the cast ❤️ Most especially Yu Hao and Chen Yekai. (I still ship chen yekai and huang ting though lmao)
  • Beautiful, detailed, well-thought out plot and writing. One of the best writings, story, and plot that I have read in the CN webnovel category.
  • Very much centered on Freudian psychology and/or Psychoanalytic theory. All the mention of psychology theories, people, and all that mumbo jumbo made me think that being a psych major is a good advantage when reading this story lol xD
  • Fantastical realism is what seizing dreams is and its well written in the sense that dream and reality are well incorporated and do not clash with each other and gives the reader full immersion into the character’s psyche
  • Good take on human relationships and trivialities of human existence.
  • The relationship between ML and MC is beautiful and healthy and just *chef’s kiss*
Overall,

One could learn a lot from reading this story so give it a shot, you won’t regret it.

This is a well-paced story featuring love, heartache, friendship, growth, one of the most unique premises I’ve ever read, and just the right amount of action. The psychology bits are not the most accurate, but it was vivid, rich, and interesting, and the dreamscapes were so fun to visualize in my mind. The main characters are all very likeable, and the romance is healthy. It was so touching to watch MC and ML fight bad guys, make meaningful friendships, and grow together with their friends. Definitely worth a read.

One of the most original plot I’ve seen in a while. It is perfectly detailed and the build-up was great. The dreamscape is highly imaginative and explained very well. However, after they became a couple the story just became bland and lost its depth. They’ll bicker here and there on some trivial stuff but it’s way too light compared to the original plot. It has lost it’s spice in the middle.

I tried skipping a few chapters to see if things would change but in the end I couldn’t bear to... more>> read it. Around first 100 chapters, I lost interest in it.

Awesome job on Chrysanthemums team on the translation though. Looking forward to more of their translations. <<less

Am at chapter 88 and I am struggling to finish. I loved the premise and I especially love MC Yu Hao who is adorable. But there is just too much melodrama in this book. Too much over-analysis of every little thing. Already irl, I have no patience for people who talk endlessly about their feelings, dreams or issues. This story is full of it. Reading this I feel like I am watching some soap opera. All the protagonists in this novel are melodramatic and love to ramble on and on... more>> about pretty much everything! ML Zhou Sheng himself says: "I am a melodramatic person"... I totally agree lol. It does feel like the author has a penchant for melodrama... there is nothing wrong with it... it's just not my thing :) <<less

This was such a beautiful book. Not everyone is wired to respond to the promise of positivity. This book explores how embracing some negative feelings and experiences as a part of life can actually be uplifting. You can teach an old dog new tricks and you can retrain your brain, too. We are able to change our thought patterns. It just takes work.

The character development was so significant and realistic, the friendship bonds were to die for, the romance was slow burn but oh was it worth it. If I... more>> had to bring someone into danmei. If someone asked me what danmei is, then this would be a good segue to show people who thing we're in it for the smut. This is the book I would show a non Fujoshi.

Shout out to bruh. I appreciate this so much. Side Note: The translator is simply the best I've come across. She's funny and witty with them little footnotes and their group chats. They made reading this all the more fun. <<less

What I have observed in seizing dreams is the constant development of growth in the characters, how their sphere of influence grow as they change and develop with one another or away from each other.

The characters also have their own traits, their own feelings and feels real and it makes you feel that you are there with them and just hanging out and enjoying their company as they take you to this beautiful and fun roller coaster of growth.

What I also like about seizing dreams is the constant moral lessons... more>> that you'll find its very unique and one of its kind because its plot mainly revolves around the moral lessons that you'll find and I'm just really smiling about it. <<less

A must read in my opinion. Often, novels are overrated in NU. It's not the case with this one.

Try it. Maybe it won't be your cup of tea, after all likes and dislikes are a question of taste. But I can guarantee that even if don't like the plot, you'll admit the characters are well flesh out, their psychology is deep and developed. The author planned every arc and sub-arc perfectly, to the point insignifiant details make their come back waaay later in a well orchestrated use of Chekhov's gun.

As... more>> for what I loved the most in this novel, it was watching the characters (all of them, not just the MCs) grow, from college students to young adult finding their place in society, solving many inner issues we all can relate to. <<less

I think I will be re-reading this again. I applaud the author for creating these characters with depth and complexity that is sometimes wanting in other stories, including the side characters who were three-dimensional and had their own paths (that did not always revolve around the main leads). The MC is amazing, and I really like how he grew to realize his own strengths and goals in life. Both the MC and ML have flaws, but their relationship was so organic and based in deep trust that I never doubted... more>> their intentions. In addition to their relationship, I loved the friendship between their group. From the summary of story, you will know that it involves the dream world. Again, I liked reading about the dream world that the author created and many twists and turns the characters faced as they moved ahead in their lives. If you are a fan of the movie Inception, you will have plenty to like in this story. It is an adventure story with love and friendship at its core. I would like to thank the translators, as because of their hard work I was able to come across this wonderful story and the author. I hope you would give this a chance. <<less

Heartwarming, heartrending, heartbreaking... the whole series was like a roller coaster. There were slice of life moments, fantasy elements, romances of which some came to fruition and some did not, comedic interludes... there was a lot and I loved it all.

The story touches upon many societal issues, both broad and personal. I'll put some in the spoiler here:

Spoiler

Depression, su*cide, homosexuality, s*xual abuse, terminal illness, your aspirations vs what society expects, socioeconomic gap

Tldr -- Really good series that happens to have BL in it, highly recommend (even if you feel a little iffy about BL) Sorry for the bland review aha <<less

It's a slow burn so far. I like the dynamic between the main characters. They're on equal terms, and they learn and grow. Really interesting so far.

Edit: More people need to read this! It's so good!-at least so far.

One of the most boring novels I've ever beared with.

I feel like the ML got with the MC out of pity. ML doesn't have ML vibes at all in the first chapters. It's like the MC just got with whoever could have him.

MC is so pitiful OMG😭 But you don't feel pity for him anymore after some time. Just annoyed.

I don't like the plot, the romance, the "real dreams" and all that

First of all, I like the story and its plot, especially when the dreams and comedy kicked in. I chose to on-hold this for a while because I didn't prepare myself for its psychological and intellectual information so I cannot comprehend it sometimes hahaha. So if you were to read this awesome story, please prepare your brain/mind, so that it won't go ka-boom while reading this.

Regarding our main couple, at first I really didn't liked the ML because of his attitude towards our MC. But after a long chapter (but... more>> not that long, it's just long for me 😹), ML will be so whipped with MC, so yeah you'll get there if you're patient enough.

So far, there's no problem or anything major (problem?) with the story so I'll edit my rating when I finished reading this. <<less

Breathes deeply _ (:3」∠) _

I feel like I've just gotten out of a washing machine that has the super sonic + shaking like a small body at the back of a truck on a bumpy road type of feelings; and honestly, not all of them were good (mostly bcz it was a bit triggering to a few of the relatable stuff). I am however, happy that that it came to a nice conclusion without much loose ends and that I stuck to it.

There are two things I'd like to address... more>> that stood out me with neon lights:

◍ The Bromance- This word has been used a lot as a meme to describe the obviously fruity scenes in anime and manga/wha/hua that most would brush it off as normal actions. But in this novel, it took Bromance and brought out the pure nature of it and it was tear-jerkingly beautiful. Sure, a couple of them DID got to be in a relationship but that didn't destroy their friendship as a group. (It made me miss my bff a ton too🥲)

◍ The inconsistencies between the mysterious power and the environment around it (this has mild spoilers so go ahead at your own risk) -
Spoiler

To be honest, I wouldn't have minded that almost halfway into this story that most of the action was "dropped" for a while before being picked up again. BUT! What ticked me off was that within one chapter with 35 chapters to go, the powers were used again which activated the supervillain. A supervillain that came from Earth. With technology that was explicitly said that was beyond their current abilities; yet somehow could've been accessed by a couple of boxes and wires 😐 The math wasn't mathing. And things were escalating so fast that it skipped levels quite a few times (don't even mention that the chapters became longer near the end as well) before it came to that conclusion, that I finally calmed down. That helped me to also forgive me not wanting to know what happened to the villains when they all came back to reality.

[collapse]

I won't talk about the other things that happened since that has been talked about a ton in the other reviews in detail:

◍ The Main Couples' relationship- needs a couples therapist (the smut was good though🙈)

◍ The different types of trauma and healing- Great

◍ Every single character in there- still need a therapist at the end of the day. ◍ The food- I was jealous 🥲 reading about good food at 3am was torture.

◍ The comedy- It brought out the inner pterodactyl <<less

This is a novel that makes me want to finish reading so I could stop thinking about it and do my work, but also don't want to finish because I love it.

It is a unique adventure of saving/finding oneself through dreams, defeating the biggest fear of your heart and seize your self confidence. At one point it explores the challenging world of a student, the anxiety of going into society, finding a job, finding your life values of doing the things that really matters to you. At another point it... more>> delve into the complication exists in relationships, whether its romance, familial or friendship. The author also relates a lot of the plot to psychological lessons too, which I may not truly understand nor agree (with the collective subconscious etc). But there are many things we can reflect to our reality from these psychology lessons :)

It's a good read. <<less

This is a beautiful story that I really hope that everyone will read. This is one of those novels where everyone can read it and take away something different. I don't think I was the same after reading this. Of course, be aware that there a lot of trigger warnings (the novel starts with attempted su*cide) but this story is one that many people can relate to because everyone experiences struggles.

Summary: Yu Hao (MC) is a gay high school student who constantly gets bullied and he can't find the will... more>> to go on anymore. He attempts to commit su*cide but in his dreams, is saved by a mysterious knight referred to as General. In this dream, he is able to regain his will to live and he sets out to 1) find General 2) find love and 3) help others. There's an entire cast of characters that are vitally important to the story, but I don't want to spoil who the ML is so I'll just say that I love all the characters (though Kaikai has a special place in my heart. And Satan). The crew go into people's dreams and help them face their fears and struggles that they cannot in their daily life.

This is not a story for the faint of heart because the author does touch on many deep topics including loss of loved ones, child r*pe/abuse, bullying, h*mophobia, and more. However, there is a wonderful balance of humor to this and the MC is constantly growing. I think that many people can relate to the MC and find him inspiring.

This follows our characters from high school through university and we see them following their dreams and finding themselves. Each dreamscape is a different world (almost like unlimited flow) and it's really fun to see the characters in different environments, and it's balanced out by things in the real world as well.

If you like philosophy and psychology, this is definitely the story for you. Also, the confession scene is one of my all time favorites in all the books I've read (I cried so many happy tears when it finally happened). I think that it can get a little difficult at times to follow as there is switching between dreams and reality as well as POVs occasionally, but you can figure it out pretty easily.

Please give this story a shot! You won't regret it! <<less

Wheww!!! I was never this reluctant to part with a book before- I actually dragged three days to read the last five chapters- that's how much I have come to love it and hated to let it go!! ❤️❤️

“I exist in the sunlight, the winds, between the heavens and the earth, and also in dreams; I’ve always been around, and have never been separated from you."

I absolutely loved the whole idea of this novel. I have always been intrigued by everything that has to do with minds and dreams so... more>> when I read the summary I was excited to read this right away but I never thought it'd be beyond my expectations, and so good in every single way!! It's amazing how the author addressed traumas and so many real life struggles in this novel through a very fascinating setting and it's one of the novels that actually does healing right ❤️❤️

I can't cry enough over how much I fell in love with the CP here... THEY'RE LITERALLY GOALS.. Their chemistry, the love they have, thw understanding they share, the compatibility... and development of the characters and the way they heal each other.. It's the best portrayal of two imperfect people finding something perfect in each other.. Turning on a bit fangirling mode here.. I am totally head over heels for the main lead in this novel.. zhou sheng.. he's seriously so dazzling not only the MC even I can't get enough of him... ❤️❤️

Seizing dreams is so far the funniest I read, and also the one that hit the hardest and maybe also the sweetest.. at least among all modern novels.. The confession scene itself makes everything so much better. And their moments of joy and struggle, and of love.. I wish it never ended and I could reading their story for an endless time. However, the only thing I'm upset about is that one epilogue.. IT'S NOT ENOUGH!! Wish some kind soul would please translate the extras soon.. also the lack of fanfics and fanarts is really devastating!! 🥺🥺

Both the real life scenarios and the dreamscapes are written so well I must say Fei tian is one of the best authors out there. The plot setting, connecting all the events, ALL THAT ACTIONS, the characters, the romance, the emotions- one novel in and I feel like it's a kind of writing I can go on reading my whole life; and let's not even start on the quality of the dialogues- I will have to write another essay in that case ❤️❤️

One of the most precious thing in this novel is that you're not only gonna cry over the main CP but also all the other side characters. All of them had their own stories, their own character development, and most importantly, the wholesome bonding between them. A whole squad and you're going to end up loving all of them ❤️❤️

I feel like the novel is quite less hyped among the international readers but it's truly a gem. I seriously don't get excited enough over live action adaptations anymore but I can't wait for the drama.. and also if there's any manhua or donghua adaptations that happen in the future I'd be all over it... hopefully even more people will be willing to read the novel after this and come to love all the best babies in here ❤️❤️ <<less

First of all, I swear this is nice, I just go distracted and paused reading it and didn't feel like continuing it. But I swear its a really nice read. Also, the summary made me put thia novel aside cause I couldn't undeerstand it 😩, it was a good thing that I still cose to try and read the first chapter cause it made the summary clearer lol, so my advice is to read the first chapter and try not to think too much abt the summary lol.

So It does... more>> tackle serious issues but its also funny and really ☺️ At times. I think its my first time reading a novel with the tag protagonist falls in love first and I actually dig it 🥰 I love the characters' growths when they overcome their personal issues ❤️ <<less

Pros :

Western setting inside a dream. I never read this kind of story before. The dreams are much more interesting than real world.

MC is very relatable and I pity him a lot. ML is literally the knight in a shining armour. While MC is the damsel in distress.

Cons :

The long ass paragraph in unbearable. I don't really like western settings so I dropped it. I don't know who ML is in rl.

It's been a long time since I had a hangover after reading a novel. I don't know what do do with my life. It left me with so many emotions. I can only describe it as captivating and beautiful. It left an enormous satisfaction in my heart.

The story is about finding love, realizing feelings, understanding oneself, challenging reality, growth, morality, standing ground. Can't really describe it just read it!! Prepare tissue, both happy and sad tears to follow.
