Lin ShuYi was sentenced to death by the traitorous Emperor for a treasonous crime he didn’t commit. Before drinking the poisonous wine on the execution ground, he stared up at the snow falling from the sky and said to himself, “This is for the best, I will be a cook in my next life! I miss roast chicken…”

Then he woke up inside a body of a teenager in an era completely different from his past life. After that, he meets a nice old man who owns a small restaurant. Completely lost in this new modern world, he found that the only thing that would never change, no matter where one lived, was cooking.

Thus he picked up the promise he made to himself, to be a chef in this life.

*EDITED*

It's tempting to drop this novel.

I only feel like finishing this novel as a mission and obligation. Then curiosity caught me, thus I read the reviews and it was a grave mistake. Now I know the ending, I feel like I can skim through most of the lovey dovey stuff so I can finish reading it quickly and find new novel to read.

At the start of the novel, ML and MC have a good and healthy relationship. But starting from c70, it's all changed. It gets boring and ML's character... more>> is falling apart into someone that I quite dislike
Spoiler

ML is courting MC so MC is slowly falling in love with ML, and ML always having dirty imaginations everyday. ML also always teasing MC and eventually eat him with relish. Even in the public, ML is so shameless. He can even feel jealous to his son

[collapse]

Then from c87, it got a bit better
Spoiler

since MC & ML adopted their children

[collapse]
But it doesn't change ML's nature, so I just skim through PDA scene.

FINALLY, I read all the chapters!!! I think, extra chapters has a better character development
Spoiler

even though side ML is shameless too like main ML

[collapse]
I don't think this novel fit my preferences, and it doesn't bring joy to me anymore until the extra chapters come
Spoiler

Btw, extra chapters start from chapter 119

[collapse]

The description is really interesting, I wonder if the plot will be better if it's a short novel. Btw, I really really appreciate Exiled Rebels Scanlations team who brought this novel to the readers. Thank you for all the hard work <<less

Defo a good mindless and stress-free read if you've just want to chill as it is fluffy and not much drama except old yang's family. Although at about c100 I got bored and mostly skimmed through it.

Emphasising mindless and stress-free because it is a Gary stu novel and everything is so smooth sailing it's smoother than my friend's forehead.

Also, the title and synopsis is very misleading. I thought the story would at least be 50:50 or40:50 about career:romance instead its 10% culinary 90%romance. Kinda disappointed me on that.

I was a bit disappointed with this novel after the halfway mark (where it definitely derailed as per other reviewers have said). Overall it's a very fluffy, lighthearted read but it definitely started getting boring after the main characters get together. The focus of the novel which originally was on the MC familiarizing himself with the new world and working from a small noodle shop towards owning his own restaurant completely changes into a family-parenting novel.

This is a very slice-of-life type novel and not really related to the MC becoming... more>> a chef. I would have rated everything before them getting together as a 5 star, but everything after... not so much. The tension/anticipation in the story completely evaporated and it was just endless sugar/fluff (which isn't a bad thing) but I honestly almost fell asleep reading the later parts because it just felt like a summary of the character's lives without any further character or relationship development.

I think the story would have gone a bit better if the author had done a bit of time skipping... or just treated everything after as extras instead of part of the main storyline.

Spoiler

The main characters talk about having kids withing like 1-2 months of just starting dating? And pretty much jump right into becoming parents soon after. It's pretty insane how quickly their relationship moved. Not to mention you never get to see any quirks or friction. Everyone "good" in the story is completely perfect and conflict free. All of their tastes 100% match each other and even the 1-year old kid is 100% obedient and good and loveable and never throws a tantrum.

[collapse]

But ultimately, the problem lies in the story becoming completely static after a certain point. The first half deserves reading! <<less

Nice fluff and slice of life with good foodie content.

But would rate 3.8 because of two reasons:

1) Some shamelessness is good, but ML can be too much of a horn dog most of the times after they get together.

2) They haven't even settled as a couple and their jobs, and suddenly we are thrown into a raising kids novel. Wtf. I haven't ever read something so extremely rushed. ... more>>
Spoiler

They literally adopt and take home a couple of kids they just met that same day. What?

This almost made me drop the novel... <<less

Was fun to read then at some point ML just starts on taking advantage of the MC who's a bit of a block head in a sense. Playing the one you like for a fool by creating a misunderstanding and taking advantage of the situation is really a turn off for me. Anyway its a good read if only there's no situations like that I Would like to rate this a 4.5 star. Its just some scenes poke my pet peeves

I thought every chapter would be about cooking but sometimes the food title in the chapter is just a food they ate. Lol. I love this, its a very heart-warming, family-centered novel especially when ML's family is introduced.
Spoiler

ML is shameless at first. Lololol. That's how he won over MC but later, he's more loving and a really really good husband and father (Yes! They adopt an adorable little bun and a sensible little zhengtai) The extras is about ML's brothers own love story~~ Drama is only at the start with Grandpa's family then the rest are happy fluffy moments. Same with the extra, drama is at the start only to explain why ML's brother and his man separated at first and then the rest are chasing (You're more shameless, you win!) and then getting together and their family life (they adopt two little princesses).

I know. A little bit more and it finished. But! It's not even cooking novel... Well, it's a cooking novel, but... I'm very disappointed.

Chef in modern era? He is just someone who transmigrated into modern era and happened to meet an old man who has a small restaurant and take it over. Not even long after he became the owner, he stopped being a chef and gave the responsobility to his employee. And the food is not that mouth-watering. Half into the story and I'm already bored. Still fighting to... more>> read it 'till the end, but this is the result.

The drama is man-made. It can be prevented and all, but still happened in the end. It's not a problem if it's only a small amount. Sadly, most of the drama here came out from that kind of can-be-prevented misunderstanding. And I also feels like ML's family is too unreal, resulting in me thinking this story was created in man-made glass globe (imaginary). <<less

I was a bit disappointed because I expected it to be the adventure of MC becoming a world class chef or something because of the summary and title but contrary to my expectations, it was then turned into family-parenting novel. It didn't really satisfy my thirst for adventure and action. But anyway it was sugary sweet and fluffy. <<less

I like this story so much! I've read it multiple times and every time it's amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because once the MC and ML got together, it felt like it was really rushed. But other than that it was great. The MC transmigrates into the future with his own body and instead of adapting immediantly, he stumbles. He has to have a friend show him around because he doesn't know how things work and it makes me happy.

This novel is only about 20% chef, 10% yaoi the other 70% is s*upid drama about an old guys tr*sh family causing issues which the MC has barely any involvement with.

Then forced marriage with very little character development as the MC barely likes Shen Fu.

I really wanted to like this novel, I would give it 4 star if all the old guys drama was removed but that's 70%+ of the book which is a waste of time.

Pretty nice story but the plot diverged from the original premise near the middle to be more romance specific. It's still a cute read though if you're looking for a complete novel.

The novel is about an official dying and finding himself in his reincarnation in the modern era. The premise is sorta interesting I guess. He doesn't have the memories of his modern reincarnation's body so he has to make sense of the things around him at first. After running out of rice, he helps an old man who owns a restaurant and the story kicks off.

I like the story well enough. The drama doesn't involve him too much but will still make you really angry at the unreasonable characters. The... more>> ML's okay.

Spoiler

He's a rich kid who is capable enough. Not the cold-type lead, but somewhat black-bellied.

[collapse]

He has some good points and at the very least is a bit entertaining to read. I don't quite like the relationship development however. I feel the progression went too fast after the MC realized he loved the ML.

Spoiler

There's one incident in the novel where he becomes jealous of the girl both he and ML treat as a little sister since they were talking for so long. When he noticed that he was jealous even though he shouldn't be, he realizes he loves ML and agrees to a relationship. ML has admitted to liking MC already and was pursuing him till he said yes.

That part's okay, but not too shortly after that, they talk about kids. I know some people actually can come to talk about that early in their relationship, but MC is still new in the relationship, not easy with affection, not even agreeing to consolidating his relationship (mariiage) with ML yet, but absolutely fine with adopting kids with ML? I found that a bit bizarre.

[collapse]

However, the story is quite fluffy and it does bring a smile to my face. I've run out of stuff to read and having this as a saving grace was not the worst thing ever. Certainly worse things to resort to. Overall, I think it best not to take it too seriously and just treat it as a holiday away from the really dark sad stories, at least, after the family drama segment (which is not even all that bad, just make you want to punch something). <<less

i am really glad that exiled-rebels-scanlations chose this. I really am starting to love it as much as LMW.

How I wish I could continue reading the later parts (if written) of LMW.

To sum it up, this novel is really heart soothening.

The relationship is so sudden! It kinda felt forced to me. If you also add the out of blue engagement, it's really off.

And the people (characters) inexplicably shipping them is just crossing their privacy. I mean– do we really have to add those scenes? It actually felt too much with how many times that scene happened over the course of the novel.

And Shen Fu (ML) is kinda pushy and forcing Lin Shuyi (MC) to like him back. Though it's nice that his character setup isn't the usual cold CEO, I'm... more>> done with those types of male lead.

I ended the novel in chapter 71 since most of the reviewers said that it started to go more downhill after the engagement. In which, I just left it as that. I have questions about Lin Shuyi's (MC) past though, especially the name he mentioned "Song Yan" and his master. <<less

Would give a 5, but the site doesn't let me change my stars after accidentally clicking it... but, in total honesty, this deserves at least a 4/5, at most 4.5... it's sad it got such a low rating. Truthfully, it's very good, though, it could have ended at chapter 80 ish or so, instead the author dragged it out. The first 80 chapters are not boring at all, though at the front, you might have to persevere through some dog blood drama, but it becomes very fluffy and peaceful after... more>> that. I'd recommend this if you love slice of life and kids, because god damn the kids are adorable! <<less

The story is long and sweet. Sometime it does get boring. But the interactions between the various characters is actually interesting in a sense. It cannot be seen so much detailed in other stories. Also, the part which contains all about food is so detailed that I feel like getting inside the story and eat up all the food cooked. Comedy can also be seen whenever needed. ... more>> I recommend this story for people who want to read fluffy BL life story from the first meeting to their marriage and much more. Worth to reread! Rebirth, face-slapping, food... and even kids! The face-slapping isn't that much, since this is a light novel. But, I like this! The translation is also 5/5! For those who wants to take a break from xianxia, QT and interstellar.. you have to try this!
