Year 24XX. With several hundred years of improvements, virtual reality has become more mature. It had gradually become humanity’s second world. Socializing, working, studying and other everyday things could all be done while sleeping.

Along with the rise in virtual reality systems, virtual games also developed successfully. Additionally, with the vigorous support of the government; every season, games continued to be born, be changed, competed with each other, and be reborn.

Ye Cang is a black bellied, underachieving, 2nd year student at a city college. He appears to have been cured of his albinism yet his story is still full of mystery. In the game ‘New Age – Conviction’, he began walking the path of a professional gamer. An all-rounder ranger, dark cooking, with a nasty disposition, willing to do anything. He’s slowly creating his own legend.

“Actually… instead of games, I prefer cooking and dramas” – The White Emperor

I used to love this novel. Starting was good. Then it turned so bad that I started to regret picking this novel.

Some constant jokes were really good, for ex. Cooking jokes, flasher and panty uncle, etc. I liked the mystery and dark storyline in-between chapters. Brotherhood between 3 main characters was good to read. Their kind nature was satisfying to read.

However around 300 chapters author started to overdid it. Jokes were overused. Author dragged the mystery storyline for too long, I mean it's been over 550 chapters and we know... more>> sh*t about MC's past story. Then author made MC and his friends bullies and arrogant. They started to bully everyone. Not recommended <<less

I thought the novel was going to be good based on the reviews and it was to a certain extent but the interaction between the MC and one character ruins it

Spoiler

Th**nyrose is utterly ungrateful towards the MC. She joins him on on one quest and feel entitled to be in his party. I don't know why the author is so adamant in keeping her other than being comedic relief which in my opinion is getting dry after using it so much. It typically goes like this

[collapse]

Spoiler

MC gets a hidden quest and a spy she sent in tells her. She goes "That damn lowlife, keeping all the benefits to himself" She get to join him and repeatedly call him lowlife even when she gets the benefits. I feel like the MC is acting dumb, but he could have chosen anyone else, with a better personality.

[collapse]

The novel turned towards similar to other mmorpg with having extreme luck and characters using the same jokes to give word count. Gonna drop this novel and will only read it again if that character gets remove which probably not going to happen.

Unless you wanna waste time reading the same thing over and over again with info dumps and lackluster jokes, I don't recommend reading it. <<less

Not only is this one of the first series in a while where I've found myself laughing aloud every few chapters to some nonsense that happens, it's also quite possibly the only VR series I've read that possesses a real world every bit as intriguing as the virtual world. It's only a shame that it never feels like we see enough of the real world in the series.

Too much repetition.

It's enjoyable from until around chapter ten. But after that they keep on killing monsters, getting loot, and repeating the same jokes. And the jokes are good. Don't get me wrong. But every jokes becomes tired if you use it too much.

Spoiler

Ye Cang wants to loot but he's unlucky

Ye Cang cooks terrible food.

Zhang ZhengXiong likes to be fit.

Lin Le isn't smart but he is very lucky.

They establish this all in the first 10 chapters. The next 60 chapters are people reacting to. The first 10 chapters are easily 4 or 5 stars. But the repetition is boring. <<less

I don't understand why this novel rated so high, really. More than half of it is somehow boring and repetitive group fights against mobs - it is like playing low level World of Warcraft except quests in WOW are much more original than in this novel. Other part of the novel is repetitive jokes which are somehow fun in first 30 chapters or so. The only good part about the novel is serious moments in "real world" and flashbacks, but they are less than 5% of the story. Someone said... more>> in his review what MC is very op in the game, but this is just not true - compared to, for example, Sura's Wrath he is weakling and not OP at all. Here we see what while protagonist extremely strong in real world, but in game world he is just a little above average than ordinary people and his superpowers don't give him significant bonus, instead his power in game mostly from "borrowed luck". Game system is boring and so far there is no real challenge at all, even if you die in the game it doesn't have any serious consequences. From other reviews you could see what this wouldn't become better or more serious and there is no overarching plot, this is why I dropped this novel. <<less

Peerless White Emperor is different from what you might be thinking due to the title. Before I started reading I thought it would be something like Martial God Asura but I was wrong, very wrong. It's a super slow story (still in the beginner village somewhere around chapter 200) that's from time to time comedic, suspenseful, full of action, or very emotional. One chapter you'd be laughing due to their shameless actions in the game, and your chest tightening the next chapter due to the emotional moments in real life.... more>> In the game the descriptions are more fluid and more detailed, as you've followed right from the beginning. The scenes in the game made me feel fluffy, with their ridiculous antics and *cough* s*xual jokes *cough*. In real life however, is very interesting. Their circumstances, pasts, and convictions are buried, waiting to be uncovered. I feel like it's sucking me in. The rich background, slow pace, heart-wrenching expositions, and amazing variation of personalities left my homework unanswered... xD But unfortunately, happy moments don't last forever, and this was dropped at chapter 419... *cry*

EDIT: YAY IT'S BACK TIME TO SLACK OFF ON HOMEWORK AGAIN >:D <<less

This novel is awesome if I say. Must read

If simplified:mostly light but still have its weight. And pretty refreshing for mmorpg, with their heaven defying talent (shamelesness)

This is comedy gold like Bcww said before in the review. Ever watch gintama?their comedy to action scale pretty much the same, so if u hate too much comedy I suggest dont read it

Spoiler

I dont know if some people think there are joke that excessively repeated (when they loot) but I think that just one of his character as someone that IS shameless

I mean dont u think its off after that much tries and determination of his (tho its shameless) then he suddenly stop suddenly?he only stop doing that when something bothering him. So if there is time when he really stop forever after, that mean something serious must be happened to change his character

From my opinion there is only two ye cang. The serious, and the shameless

And again that just my humble opinion. Different people different taste and different view of thing

*p.s-just think th**nyrose as someone like shinpachi from gintama, where his job to tsukkomi the MC. And look this novel main attraction is comedy so dont be bothered too much about it

This story is good, good but annoying, and sadly it slowly becomes more and more annoying while it's good parts are disappearing at a fast pace. Maybe the story has a lot of potential both as a VR and a Sci Fi Xianxia novel, but at the moment the characters are just too plain. A few glimpses in their past are not enough, and even worse the author made a few inserts about an incident that portrayed the MC as cruel and cold person, while the rest of the time... more>> we have to deal with the general sh*t in the VR world where he is treated like some servant by a bit*h from some great guild. Very Good Novel.

Just that sentence will represent everything. You won't regret it after you read it.

Don't complain about how unbalance the game and etc etc, as long the game aren't broken like certain Novel SW and EDAtH. Making novel about games aren't easy coz sometimes it involves Math (yes MATH!! Linguistics doesn't need math!!!!) . This game strong point is Comedy and their battle/duel either strategy or skills or so what I get until chapter 222. As for romance, who cares that was a good side dish.

My favorite Virtual Reality novel!

It's super funny and the characters are idiotically so. They're still "talented" though, so they aren't totally useless.

OP MC. Really. In game and out of the game. The game is the focus, but there is clearly a story going out in the outside world. Some people have special abilities outside too! It's a future modern reality with martial arts and special abilities.

Experiments in creating humans, terrorists, super powerful groups, etc. Oh, and MC's cooking is the best part of the story. Maybe.

[collapse]

Not much romance, but that's for a reason. There's an annoying running gag related to one girl, but the story is worth it. I don't find her that annoying anyways.

The luck in the story is weird. It's amusing.

MC's bro reminds me of Shi Hao from Perfect World, but dumber??? Sorry, Lele. <<less

This is a story about three dudes who planned to play game to make a living money and having special power is a norm in this world. Our MC playing game while tackle real-life problems at the same time from day to day as usual. While the RL side is more interesting than the whole playing game,

As our MC is quite strong and also a member of a top notch syndicate. Our MC also has some dark background story to tell, another sad memory to forget.

[collapse]

The story is suffer from having little to no plot at all (at the moment). The RL and game has no intermediate connection what so ever, literally two difference stories. While at the start, they were planning to make money, they did not doing so as story move on. Banter in this story is the only selling point which is quite good. Combat is lame, loots then distribute then move on to the next. You will see loots stat almost every chapter.

Only recommended for comedy and banter. <<less

doesnt deserve a 4.4 at all.

i came to read about a mmorpg world where a group of friends adventure and create trouble. But it was completely different from my expectations.

They spend considerable time outside. EVERY TIME in the real world, the MC has a recollection of the past which gets a bit excessive. The past was long gone and by now his recollections and emotions should be less consistent and more subtle. He should try to show that he has moved on or things like that. But how he has... more>> been shown is irritating and shows the author's inexperience. Personally, I would want more time in the game rather than the outside world and competition. IMO the competition is extremely boring while the real life stuff was just irritating because of his constant recollections.

A lot of pe*verted jokes like you find in japanese comedy anime like gintama, shinka no mi etc. I love gintama and when they make extra-pe*verted jokes, I am fine with it but for some reason when similarly perverse jokes were made here I didnt like them at all. I do not know the reason myself but maybe it has something to do with how most japanese protagonist are either completely beta or creepy when they are evil so I dont differentiate japanese male characters and female characters and treat them all as female. While CN protagonist becomes slightly r*pey.
Spoiler

The part where th**ny rose hugged the n*ked lin le. Nalan puresoul and wu na ate the goblins d*ck. Wu na touched flashers uncle d*ck were also very disappointing. I dont like protagonist's LI doing all this. If I found the jokes funny and treated the world as a joke I wouldnt mind but it is not funny enough to ignre such things.

[collapse]

i read a review before I started the novel where it said cooking joke was repeated again and again. When I read it I thought that cooking was a side joke and author repeated it again and again because people liked it and then it became boring. But after I read I realized that is not the case at all. Firstly it is not a side joke and it is a part of the story. Secondly, it is not just repeated, every five chapters that are spent in the virtual game must at least involve his cooking. I already mentioned that the competetion stuff was intolerable, after 20-30 chapters of time waste in such chapters we returned to the game and now he cooked, people fainted again, the same jokes were repeated killed a boss and then they again left the virtual world. After such things cooking part was not only boring it was annoying as heck. I think that the author read the novel levelling up through eating and just copy pasted the joke about pet being called emergency ration but he forgot that his MC was more of a cooking freak than a foodie, which s why the joke didnt make much sense.

Spoiler

The action is also sh*t in summary. To everyone MC always keeps preaching that purpose of the sword is to kill, the most simple way to kill, no superfluous movements blah blah blah. But whenever he fights he cuts up the enemy, which is brutal but not the 1 shot 1 kill type kill.

MC is always shown as a OP character and is shown to kill weaklings with ease. You get the impression that when he exerts his full power he scares even himself and it is a complete calamity. But in the first fight in which (for lin le's father) I expected him to face a challenge he lost like a little b*tch. This left me with the impression that he can only bully kids and act like a master there. (Which is also the case with most chinese characters and protagonists in these kinds of novels.

just like how him losing the fight for saving lin le's father was a big letdown, him losing to flame emperor also didnt make sense. MC could see more than 1 sec forward and I assume flame emperor could not so even if it was a game and flame emperor could attack and defend better, it would be easy for MC to win

[collapse]

Spoiler

i was just reading it and read this, "He was also the one who created the Big Disaster virus which could destroy the world, the one who killed millions of people in the island nation. He turned numerous strong players with just sanleng thorns. He even killed the prime minister of island nation, turned him into dumplings and forced the legislators to eat them. They were also forced to say oishii at the camera." hey mr author arent you getting too ahead in the brain washing for some money. I am from india and our government also teaches us to hate pakistan. It goes till the limit of they killed our x soldiers and we killed their 2x soldiers. Or our reporters say they always create trouble on our borders and are all bad people. Then people would get angry and ask government drop a bomb on them or something. But this novel is clearly brainwashing in the wrong direction

[collapse]

i dont why but it is rated 4.4, if it would be between 3.5 and 4 I would give it a 2 which is a more appropriate rating according to me but because I think is highly overrated which misguided me and made me read this garbage copy paste mixture, I will give it a 1. <<less

A somewhat bizzare but hilarious VRMMO novel. The storyline is basically non-existant, and later in the novel things turn downright odd... Still, at it's core it's just a group of friends screwing around in a MMO and having fun. It's well-written and very funny, even if they keep recycling the same jokes shamelessly. Still, that seems to make it even more funny.

The book full of broken sense, where you'd laugh so much that even stomach starts to hurt. Good thing is the brain feels refreshed after laughing so much, but still one cancerous item for laughing.

*You have been warned*

Some foods cooked or eaten by them within the VR, is really not of Human world.

This novel isn't really about game mechanics or thrilling story. The story itself doesn't really have any depth. It's mostly "do this quest, do that quest". Meaningful interaction with playerbase as a whole is pretty much missing.

There are separate plots for game/real-life but there is no interaction between these plots. You can skip chapters if one of them isn't to your liking.

When it comes to game stats, they don't hold any meaning. The numbers are getting bigger over time, but that's it.

There is a lot of stuff like "Oh, there... more>> is a clearly visible npc in the village. Oh, it has a hidden uber-quest available to us. Oh, we are so ahead of other players due to these uber quests.". Except from the description of those quests, they really don't sound like something hidden. There is totally no reason for other players not to find most of them.

To sum it up, if you expected the usual mmorpg novel, this isn't one of them.

It's more of a comedy novel full of gags and I could accept that...

Except, there is like less than 10 gags which keep getting repeated over and over again until you totally hate them, e.g.:

Spoiler
    • one char has uber luck and gets insane items from simplest encounters
    • one char has no luck at all and gets totally zero loot if he's to open the chest, etc.
    • the unlucky one claims it was always and accident and tries to loot stuff again, while being stopped by others
    • there is a cook and his cooking is awful but gives good stats
    • an archer misfires and causes misunderstandings
    • the-most-one-dimensional-tsun-chick-ever hates the MC but still tries to come back for more good quests and loot
      [collapse]
The reason I didn't give it 1* is that I grinned a few times during those ~100 chapters. Mostly due to the descriptions of `bad cooking' and its effects. But the tropes are so repetitive, it gets boring and tiring really fast.

I've tried jumping forward by 100 and 200 chapters but it was still the same stuff over and over again. I was unable to continue and gave up.

To give you some insight, I've lately found out that I get really tired of tropes where an idiot protagonist repeats the same idiocy over and over again while never learning anything from past mistakes. And that's the main thing I couldn't stand here. If you don't mind such tropes, and you want a simplistic novel with gags, maybe you can give this one a try. By the chapter 10 you will surely know whether you like it or not. <<less

It's really funny and it made me laugh often while reading it.

I also like the rest of the characters aside from the MC which is rare.

Wish this could have had more chapters though.

Such a shame.

But whatevers, it's still fun anyway so yeah, I recommend this very much.

Good but also bad? It's hard to rate this novel. My main issue is that it's not serious enough for my tastes. Too many unfunny attempts at jokes. Clearly trying to lighten the mood at times, but there might be a cultural gap or something because I haven't laughed once while reading this particular novel. On the other hand, when the novel is serious about the VRMMORPG or the MC, I really like it. The problem is those times seem to be few and far between. Still, give it a... more>> read.
