Great Demon King

“If I don’t die… I swear I will act on all my evil thoughts..”

Not exactly everyone’s typical thought when they’re about to die. What will a cowardly young man do when reincarnated with the evil powers to redefine his destiny? Can the natural kindness of human nature triumph over evil? Will he become the cold-blooded demon king of legend, or will he forge his own path and rain down another kind of terror?

Well... how I'm gonna say this ? it's a good novel but not that masterpiece...

Spoiler

well almost if not for the ending which is a bit rushed and anticlimactic to me. You know they could have explored the other universe or anything and on the ending you can see all of the harems about to be pounded espcially sophie... like I didn't get any news on her character after she went on brettel and suddenly she is on the ending lol

[collapse]

Generally I started reading this because of the mature and ecchi tag to get me through the series. Initially the novel is really good and really has some interesting plots too. Would definitely recommend this to be read and the MC is not the antihero thingy like leylin from warlock of the magus world <<less

Hmm. My actual ranking is 2.5/5, not 3.

Overall, it starts great. Transmigration is cliche, but at least the author bothered to come up with an explanation for how it happened. The trope of dual cultivation (demonic xianxia magic + western magic) isn't exactly unique, but it's quite good, and the author executed it well in this novel. Both kinds of cultivation are done nicely (but still cliche).

The plot is fairly normal, but what is nice is that it's often driven by the protagonist's goals and actions. He's a demonic cultivator,... more>> and he lives up to it with his actions and character. No beta male sh*t here, oh no. In fact, some of the sh*t the protagonist does is focked up, but that's good because he's a demonic practitioner. He can't be good, or it'd defeat the point of the premise.

The setting is great: we have a nice western fantasy world. The author put some effort into crafting it, and it's just as you'd expect from a western fantasy setting. It's good and I like it. However...

Spoiler

The problem is that there are two more worlds after this. The first one is kind of netherworld realm that MC gets accidentally sent to, and this one is good, it was also done well, and the events there were okay. Although power levels were higher, it wasn't really a higher realm, so it was cool.

The issue is that MC eventually leaves to a higher realm (like in all xianxia and xuanhuan novels), the place of gods, and that's where the novel goes downhill. It's honestly crap, that last realm. It'd be much nicer if the book ended in the first world, if it was expanded more. Sigh. The plot goes to crapper too at that point, and this is a big part of the reason for my low score.

[collapse]

Like I said, the protagonist is good. There aren't really any significant male characters (most secondary characters is very bland and insignificant in fact) except for some of mc's undead creatures. Those were done better, and they had big character growth, but only Han Hao is done well imo. Of the rest, only the lustful guy was memorable.

Btw,

Spoiler

this big character growth is big because they started from 0, not because they developed far. They only turned from 0D to 2D...

[collapse]

Harem is quite not bad at first. The MC is a big as*hole sometimes, and mistreats some of them big time (even if he takes responsibility for it later), and you can tell that from the shitty [r*pe victim becomes lover] tag. Well, at least the author doesn't evade romance, which many Chinese authors do, even if they write harem novels, and there are some nicely written bits.

Some more about harem...

Spoiler

In the second world as I mentioned, MC doesn't have his harem, so he makes a second one (lol right). Of them, one love interest was more interesting, the rest is meh, and if there were more than three, then they were so irrelevant I don't remember them at all now. But in general, it was okay that MC added them. What wasn't okay was that after this, harem got less and less screentime, with only several more prominent love interests still showing up later, but they had no real importance to plot. It was big crap. I came to read this novel for harem among other things, and something like the last 1/3 or even 1/2 of the novel doesn't have any harem/romance action...

[collapse]

One nice thing was that one love interest actually rejected MC in the end, and didn't become his woman. That's nice, it gives a touch of realism to our unrealistic story. It's boring if all women fall for MC.

So like I said, the last part of the novel was really crappy, so if you read until

Spoiler

MC's arrival in Elysium, the land of gods

[collapse]

and you're bored, then you might as well drop this novel. Nothing interesting is happening later, and the plot is already being meh at this point. Moreover, the ending was like diarrhea: hasty, without substance, and you can't wait to get it over with.

Overall, I'd rate this story around 6-7/10 until the last part, and I'd rate the last part around 3/10 at best. Oh, 6 is already high in my mind, especially since webnovels in general barely ever deserve something like 8/10. <<less

This was good enough...I liked it so much. MC is not just OP but use tactics and scheme etc means he use his brain as much his fist. I would like it more if the ending was a little more interesting.

Hello, My opinion about this novel is good, whether in romance (Harem), action and adventure.

This novel is divided into 2: stay in his world and outside of it. The first part is good and entertaining and the second part too, but when it reaches the stage where the "overgods" get involved, it kind of falls a bit...

The ending feels super simple, leaving the final boss badly, but at the less closes well and the MC tells his wives that it is time to make children. END (Reminding you that I... more>> read the final translation that is super understandable that I finished this 05/28/21) ❤ <<less

This kind of novel is for enjoyable, satisfying, release tension from holding back in morality.

In sypnopsis, MC swore to himselft " if I don't die, fu*k the moral of society, f*** genius and luck intertwined and messing up things. Then because of his existence, for messing up the Demonic Cuktivators plan of controlling the world, the karma transmigrated he to another world of wonders. His own goodwill intentionally or not, has been pay back with overhelming luck. ≫ A reason why Han Suo always get what he need the... more>> most, and not wanted the least.

Spoiler

Lack of imaginative in situation. Too many plot force or lucky circumstance for MC. Example : tr*sh bag on the tree save the MC for his naughty deeds of peeking. Or the completion of the black skeleton with randoms materials found. In any least, the World Will is supporting him for his road of success.

I can't give a verdict with so few chapters read, but as of my first impression:

The MC and the entire atmosphere seems very childish. I was bored before the story picked up. Lots of humor but it is all clicheic jokes that didn't land for me. No high hopes for this one.

I'm currently on chapter 418 and one thing I can say is character development. He goes from a foolish child who plays pranks and lies to get what he wants, to a more grown and refined man. If you are a fan of magic and level up books then this is a great choice. The author did a great job showing his changes throughout the book as his cultivation gets higher.

This story is good and bad

Good:

    1. True demonic cultivation that kill, do s*x and progress by doing what the heart desire
    1. Necromancy
    1. Skeleton that is the true great demon king
    1. Fight
    1. Power system
    1. Hybrid power system
Bad:

    1. Harem (they are at least more than object but still visit them once per year)
    1. Forced plot (Nerf MC to have him in dificulty, give him power when he will need it next chapter or die, shearch ingredient for cultivation, not think of alternative thing he could do) Just to do an arc
Else it is better than many xianxia in that each power up is different: upgrade undeath, upgrade mind, upgrade physique, upgrade weapon, upgrade divine power, upgrade soul, upgrade spell, different mean to attack with these power. Vs the use pill, use pill, use pill, drug, train a bit, artifact out of nowhere, artifact, artifact, artifact of normal xianxia.

Novel is good for relaxing. It is a mixed of western lore and cultivation. MC is a demon cultivator and take the path of necromancy so expect him to be a little ruthless but compared with ATG, MGA and Warlock of Magus World MCs, he is a good person. Story is quite relax to read so no major crisis/setbacks for MC. So if you like novels that are quite relax to read with an OP MC with good harem and mixed cultivation, this is for you. And don't be deceive... more>> by the title, there will be no demon king which is one of my disappointments. Review of keklel was quite detailed and just like as he said after MC got in the god domain, it becomes boring. <<less

It feels like it is missing something. Not sure how to explain it, but the story flows matter of factly instead of having a mystery to it. What I mean is the chapter starts with a goal, then the middle the chapter the goal is implemented, then end of chapter goal is reached, it is almost like a narrative than a story in this regards with little worry of failure or success.

AS of chapter 111

I do enjoy the story, it is fun and seems to be leading to something big,... more>> however it is missing that "oomph" factor that makes a story outstanding.

Action wise decent but again missing any kind of worry that the MC will fail. Some fights are kinda boring while others the author does a good job. So it and miss.

Romance decent, not great tho. It seems o be leading to Harem ending of some kind, but still not determined. MC has a love interest, and also several female fawn over him, but he more or less brushes them off while singularly attacking his interest at this time trying to make her his woman with little to no success even tho she is "already" his in her heart, try to figure that one out hehe.

Story wise I already mentioned it lacked oomph, almost monster of the week scenario, everything gets resolved quickly with little to no drama or worry. Everything written is almost like it is a Biography, a fact sheet, instead of story at times. There is some comedy and some witty remarks, but these are few in the long run.

I am only 111 chapters in so maybe alot will change, but as we progress, it seems the author is getting more lazy with the story and going more condensed in its telling........3/5 so far. <<less

Chapter 61.

GDK is a... different type of xuanhuan/qihuan type story. While it features cultivation and devil techniques, it also mixes that with necromancy. Necromancy was an accepted but designated “weak and worthless” major of magic study which means our MC's use of both can create some high tiered stuff. Adding to the fact that devil techniques are part of xuanhuan and so have a benefit to our MC’s body cultivation... you can see how a rather legit form of “magic swordsman summoner” can come into being.

Other than that, our MC... more>> is a person with a mix of memories. As an otaku from our dear Earth, he’s a virg*n with a relatable attitude and low moral ideals. He understands that even though he has “devilish” thoughts, actually doing them would be bad. Then he has a bit of technical memories from a Devil Practitioner who kidnapped him and wanted to use him as an extra life (body) for when he died. Instead, he dies and some parts of his intelligence and memory are passed on. Along with that, he gives our MC the idea that “Devil practitioners do what they want” which further decreases our MC’s control. Lastly, we have the MC’s current body and memories. Dear Bryan is a fool who ends up as the worst of s*aves. Beaten daily, given daily chores, eventually killed and disposed after too much experimenting by the necromancy students...

GDK is hard to describe. Some will like it, others may not. For me, I’ll be interested to read more, but it’s not my favorite. <<less

Impressions as of Ch.52.

Decent is the word I would use. It’s slightly different than the usual “I found a secret, I’ll power up and kick ass!” stories in that the MC kept his head low and acted the fool for a long time (almost as long as Yi Yun of “True Martial World”) instead of immediately displaying his new found strength. This is one of those stories where I wish the novel had the benefit of an editorial polish. Perhaps it’s due to it being a web novel, but the... more>> prose can be quite simplistic, and perhaps the process of translation made the text look very basic (not the fault of the translator, just that the source itself seems lacking). You don’t really get a sense of the environment and how it looked like. It seems to be a mixture of medieval/western fantasy type story with Chinese elements, as the characters all have western names (except for the MC’s original world name).

The author’s other story is a R-18 novel and you can see traces of it here. The MC has blatantly le*d thoughts about the beautiful women near him, and if this is ever adapted to a Japanese anime; you’ll have an ecchi show in the veins of “Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero” or “Highschool DxD”.

It is still early days of its translations yet, but I will mark this one as something I’d read while waiting for other novels. It can be humorous at times and the story seems to show potential. It’s looking like a light-hearted xianxia with elements of comedy. But as of Ch.50 the MC was forced to take a dark path, and things might change rapidly.

An interesting read nonetheless. <<less
