One of the best novels I've ever read.

The MC is unusually special. Gotta love this dude. MC's background is still a mystery. His powers are pretty varied, and he's internally messed up unlike other perfect MCs. Ah, there's another dude (foils) that's just as MC-like.

The side characters are memorable. Character development, woo! The pets are adorably annoying. No real harem so far. Gotta go for the best girl. Also, the ancient fossils are always entertaining.

... more>> Long battle scenes with lots of buildup. They're awesomely done!

This story is also very funny. Watch out for Lil' Cliffy~

The translator and editor sometimes have funny and insightful comments on the story at the bottom. They make me laugh as much as the actual story.

Plot is good. Lots of battalions/minor politics. The relationship between the three races (yao, mo, and xiuzhe) are interesting. It's rather amusing for everyone to wonder which the MC is.

I'm just going to make this simple.

This is one of my most favorite xianxia novels. To me, it is one of the novels that has close-to-perfect settings which is quite rare in the xianxia world.

The plots are at leisure pace.

... more>> Arcs starts and ends properly.

Detailed on the important parts. - Doesn't drag.

No characters are forgotten. Almost all have proper end or intro. - Which is to me, one of the important parts.

The MC character is unique. He is the opposite of typical heroes but loyal. Unpredictable yet predictable. One that I can actually relate and doesn't unnecessarily goes off to killing spree.

Settings and plots are great. Although there are some predictable patterns of a typical xianxia novel, they are mostly fun and have some connections to future plots. Also contain some mystery and hints that could make readers relate and speculate.. - E.g. On MC forgotten past, side characters' background and growth, etc..

MC is also not too OP. Although he does have some unique and powerful skills, he sometimes cannot utilise it to the fullest - which is understandable once you read on. But whatever his weaknesses are, his teammates would usually cover him up. - In fact, one of the side chara. Is actually more OP and closer to typical MC than he is. Plus, Lil' Luck seems to favor him A LOT.

Most importantly, it's not boring and makes you read the whole hundreds of chaps without skipping even one. (Trust me, cos I just did a marathon on this and tried but can't.. U'll see why -, -) <<less

World of Cultivation is a great story with meaningful side characters, character development, humor but not over the top at any point, and the plot is used to create action and tension, rather than trying to use action to form a plot. The translation quality is superb. I have no critiques for this novel or its translations, truly one of my favorite stories.

The story is very intriguing to the point that you never fall asleep. While the author writing are very simplistic and not obscure or abstruse to understand in contrast to most of the other novels which are very enjoying to keep track on. The novel itself has a very strong constitution and premises to allow oneself to not get dissappointed neither bored, in a sense of repetitiveness, generic, unique, creative and it keep you perpetually wanting more and more.

MC is very lovely, majestic, perfect, kind, funny, intresting, cool, awesome, amazing... more>> and impeccable. Even so, the side characters are also flawless, it seems like the author has put some time into though and writing.

Review: 5/5 excellent novel! Top 5 in my list. <<less

TL;DR edition:
What happens when you put "band of brothers" into a xianxia world? This is what you get. The long edition:

1. It is about Zuo Mo, and his plot armor, and his merry band of brothers.
2. It is about cultivation, but more towards what happens to a group of people.
3. It is about a sect, but more towards the "lower rung", the untouchables, not the elites.

If you're not reading this story, you're missing out on a hillarious, wonderful journey of rednecks, rebels without causes, and a group... more>> of hillbillys thrown out to fend for themselves. <<less

He is so..... country bumpkin. Usual cultivation MC are decisive, ruthless and shrewd cultivation geniuses (or really wimpy hapless). This guy does not lean toward either extreme. He's had some lucky encounters and does work extremely hard, but his thinking and personalities are simple. I find him to be more realistic/relatable, but there are times when I'm like *sigh* why is he doing this instead of that?!?! he's so... country bumpkin.

The translation is good, plot is interesting, and side characters are realistic (not the type that blindly loves/hate the... more>> MC after 2 meeting). It talks about ling farming, formation and cultivation so there are a lot of details, paragraphs you in almost every chapter you can skip without missing out. 100+ chapters in and so far so good, I hope it doesn't derail into some generic stuff later on.

EDIT: nvm, he turned ruthless after he start building city, raising army and traveling the land, ch150-300ish, where farming is forgotten and he's now a formation master and fighter that loves money and doesn't hesitate to kill. But the plot is still relatively interesting and.... he's still so ignorant sometimes, lol. <<less

This is one of the best masterpieces in NU. The story is well written, with rich characters and good dose of comedy. Unlike other novels, the novel's MC, Zuo mo is not omnipotent and actually has some personalities. Same goes with the other side characters in the novel. The storytelling is captivating and the adventurish moments in this novel are like a fresh breeze compared to other novel. Upon writing this review, I had binged read 200+ chapters and not once, I was bored. While some... more>> novels became dull and boring when they reaches ch. 300+, this novel is getting more interesting each chapter. Definitely worth the read! <<less

This is one of my favorite novels on this website.

The first thing I really love about this novel is that the side characters aren't just forgotten (it's not like IET). For example, each member of his lil' gang still has screen time, and it's pretty hilarious the escapades this goon squad goes on. The members of Wu Kong Sword sect I'm pretty sure haven't been forgotten either, just haven't come up in the story yet.

Secondly, the characters actually have personalities, and aren't just cardboard cutout stereotypes. The MC is not... more>> a s*upid stereotypical power-hungry women-attracting MC. He actually has a personality. He's funny, stingy, woman-oblivious and money-hungry, and mostly just wants to live comfortably, but circumstances keep forcing him to try and get stronger. The author doesn't just write dumb stereotypes that he shortly throws away (although he does sometimes, but only characters that it's really clear are only really minor characters), and each person interacts with each other naturally and in often hilarious ways.

The novel also has a ton of its own badass moments, and the build up is really epic. The nation-building feels real and natural and is the best I've ever seen in one of these novels.

All in all, really really good novel. The only downside is that the author for some reason chooses to not translate some terms that are really easily translated for no apparent reason, which makes things confusing especially at the beginning, but if you stick with it you'll get used to it, and it's really worth it. Also, the novel is a bit slow but that's not really too bad of a problem.

All in all, excellent, non-cliche novel. It's stayed constant that way for like 450 chapters, which is absolutely amazing to me. <<less

While I haven't always loved the direction the story was going in, the TL has always been done really well and reads nicely. The TL notes at the end of the chapter can be a bit spoilery so I usually skip those - read at your own risk.

If I were to compare this to another novel, I would say the tone is overall somewhat like I Shall Seal The Heavens. I think there's a bit more comedy in this than ISSTH, fewer but more consistent side characters and a lot... more>> of the time it feels more like an action-oriented slice of life story than a cultivation story.

I think there have been 3 main that stand out to me, all of which contain minor spoilers
Spoiler

1. The MC does have "help" from ghosts to cultivate, but unlike most Xianxia where the ghosts are all-powerful and basically all-knowing, these ones are both flawed and act like people. And while both are very powerful (at least up to this point) they both make mistakes. Sometimes they trick the MC, sometimes he tricks them.
2. The MC learns a lot of things but very blatantly decides not to branch out into some areas that he doesn't think he'll be good at. He has a bit of plot armor in that there always seems to be a 200% loyal side character that fills that role, but it is still nice to see an MC that can't do everything.
3. This is actually the only CN novel I can think of where the MC (and some of his posse) outright reject racism and prejudice. The MC has his own stereotypes he's decided on and acts wrongly at some points, but those are all based on his experiences and not some outside view from society.

I thoroughly enjoy reading this novel. The daily updates and quality translation are a blessing. On top of this, the novel itself is quite interesting, the MC is fantastic, and readers are able to understand the growth that he experiences. Character interactions are also hilarious at times, and plot flow is spot-on. 10/10 would recommend.

This is one of my must read novels. It took me a couple of chapters to get into it but as you can see from my username, I love the MC. He is not the usual, OP arrogant MC or the self righteous scholarly type. Instead he is this little money loving freak who also loves cultivation techniques. The translator does a good job as this does not seem to be an easy novel to translate. However, it could be difficult for new readers to digest jingshi, jindan, and other... more>> terminology. I can understand why the translator chose not to translate those as it preserves the integrity of the language. The release date is awesome and I pretty much read it every day within 1 hour from release as I look forward to next chapter.

The world is different as you have yao and mo who are fauna based races and beast based races that compete with humans for territory. They each have different cultivation methods. This novel talks a lot about different cultivation methods and forging/arrays etc. There was an arc that was pretty much city building and now it is on army building. The cast is vast and so far some earlier characters makes a return later so they are not discarded. Please give this novel a try as it is definitely one of the better ones out there. <<less

Starts of really slowly. And I mean really slow. It got interesting about after chapter 16, I think. Then, at about ch40, I was hooked. From that point, I binge read this until the current release. It's that good.

I like the fact that this story has well thought out characters. They all have good reasons for acting the way they do. There is none of that "you looked at my woman? Now I'll exterminate your whole clan and country" bullsh*t.
Even the villains have good reasons for being at odds... more>> with the MC. And if the reason is silly, then the problems get resolved without having to resort to genocide. Ah, so refreshing...

Also, unlike so many others, this story does not turn to crap as it progresses. And the comedic moments in this story can be hilarious! I especially enjoy some of the interactions MC has with a character he meets later called 'Pu'. And no, that is not a spoiler.

Now, it's not like the story is perfect; I did see two or three plot holes while I was reading. BUT the good thing is that the author gives reasonable explanations for those plot holes a few chapters later, which more or less closes those holes. Better late than never, I guess.
But my point is, when the author is made aware of a problem, he tries to fix it intelligently. That is more than I can say for a lot of other stories/authors.

Oh, and the best part? Take a look at those release dates... That is one chapter a day, every day. Constantly. No gaps AT ALL!
A good story with guaranteed releases, people! How attractive is that?

Final words: If you can get past the slow start, this story is sure to get into your top ten. <<less

I've been following Zuo Mo's adventures in World of Cultivation from the very beginning and it's about time I gave it a review. As with a lot of fellow readers, I've read a whole ton of Wuxia/Xianxia novels and have begun to get a lot more discerning outside of the usual cliched storylines - far too many cheat reincarnation, tr*sh to genius, tr*sh-talking arrogant bloodthirsty OP MCs out there. I recommend WOC highly. It has an interesting and non predictable plot. It's a very refreshing change with enjoyable worldbuilding, characters... more>> who get fleshed out more than the norm and an interesting cultivation system with a believable, less OP increase in power levels. The usual action-packed bloodthirsty Xianxia novels do get the blood boiling but they will get old once you read too many of them. WOC is something that has great lasting power because of the time it takes to build an interesting world, genuinely interesting storyline, an "endearing" MC Zuo Mo and a great cast of supporting characters. (When I mention the time taken for worldbuilding, don't wrongly assume it's as snail-paced and unnecessarily longwinded a la Ze Tian Ji)

Kudos to translation team for great quality and consistent releases as well. Note: I've also read ahead to ~chapter 800+ and it's still holding up pretty well. <<less

LOVE IT.

At first its a hassle cause of the new terms like jingshi and stuff but when you are done adjusting with the new words you will see a whole new world of cultivation. The MC for me is one of the best and the most interesting especially when his tlaking about jingshi and talismans. Zuo mo will always be Zuo mo at our hearts. Definitely one of the must read novel. "GE won't let any jingshi to waste"

Chapters read: 168

Currently my favorite WN. The MC kind of reminds me of Weed from lms and the Ark MC also. Greedy bastard that just makes your day with the sh*t he does for money. He is also not "OP" sure he learns fast, but he uses "money" to beat people or at least thus far with the few OP people he has fought that is what he has done. Overall I would easily put this on par with ISSTH, but that is of course my own opinon so don't... more>> take my word on it. Solid 4 stars here I would reccomend giving it a good 30-50 to see if you like it. <<less

Yeah this is pretty different to other cultivation stories out there, I’d go so far as to say I personally don’t think I’ve read anything similar so far. The story starts out as literal cultivation and that made me laugh for a bit since I did not expect to read a web novel where the word cultivation would be actually used for literally cultivating crops =D

Anyways lately the story has been shifting more to the actual xianxia and wuxia feel which I like as the main character is becoming... more>> a bit more interested in gaining strength in cultivation (spiritwise). Indeed hopefully it keeps going like that since the slow pace suits this story just fine. So yeah good overall story with quite a few mysteries and some sure to be awesome future reveals, I suggest people who don’t mind a slow start and like xianxia to try it, bear in mind the character is not OP and in fact he seems to be a scrub in the grand picture but not an ordinary scrub so yeah look forward to it’s future chapters. <<less

There are several times where the MC works hard to get money (his main goal) but then ends up being forced to spend it by his own sect. The same sect that "highly values" him. Honestly it's annoying to constantly see him get screwed over by various people.

Romance: yes, in the future according to the wiki

Dropped because of annoyances in current arc and the very slow pace of the story (lots of chapters until this arc is over)
