In this world, there is the beautiful mutual and telepathy love.

“I’ve been pursuing you for so long, what do you think?’

Xu Xu could feel her heart pounding in her chest; however what he said wasn’t logical.

“You’re pursuing me?”

Ji Bai raised his black eyes looking at her quietly.

“Every morning I exercised with you, personally taught you how to shoot, prompted the police team to call you sister in law… If this isn’t pursuing, then what is it?”

She took a deep breath stabilizing her heartbeat.

“You don’t need to pursue me anymore.”

Ji Bai totally did not expect her to say that. His heart sank, coldly said: “What do you mean?”

Xu Xu looked into his eyes: “I also like you so you don’t need to pursue.”

If this is not the definition of cute, I don’t know what else is.

Xu Xu is downright adorable, without being a klutz or overly dense. Her EQ is pretty low (that’s how the author describe her) and is often oblivious to other people feeling, but she did realize those feeling. When her brain is not too focused on cases, that’s it.

Ji bai (male lead) is sensible and is direct with his feeling. Best part? He gave some space to Xu Xu and respect her opinion. Both Xuxu and Ji Bai... more>> are able to separate their feelings and work, a rare trait in chn romance novel.

It’s a great read for those who enjoy romance. My only regret is that the story was not yet finished when I picked it up. Now I have to wait for updates ;-; <<less

Highly recommended ??The people who rate this novel as 1 star I don't understand their test or may be they really don't have any test like seriously this novel is so goooooood

?romance is just perfect and most importantly relatable. You can relate to it not like some novel where leads fall in love in first chapter. And crime ceases, is also good not too draggy. The lead couple's chemistry is on another level?. And BIG BIG thank you to the translators ??

Don't let the title or the synopsis fool you. It sounds thoroughly boring and sappy but no!! It ain't!

Both main leads don't lose their minds over love. They're impeccable police officers that balance duty and feelings carefully, but that doesn't mean they have a boring romance! The increasingly dangerous missions they embark on allows both of them to realize each other's irreplaceable existences as they rely on each other's strengths to push through each case!

The setting of each scene is absolutely on point, as each crime scene is clearly illustrated... more>> down to the last footprint. All the characters, their preferences, the neighborhood, workplace... is thoroughly visualized.

There is an emphasis on relationship building in the novel but it's so much more than that. There is no emotional roller coaster ride. It's a steady snail-pace build up of the emotions between the lead characters. But it's doesn't take a long time for their feelings to blossom. It's more like,
Spoiler

The male lead realizes his feelings first and seemingly guides the female lead to fall for him.

[collapse]

What really hits the spot is how both leads crack the cases they're faced with. It's ingenious! The author meticulously fleshes out the personalities of each character. Their characters have a lot of impact on how it leads them down their respective paths.

I love how we see how the foibles of some characters steers them down the wrong path until they come to a point of no return. Although the author paints a merciful world where second, third or even fourth chances are given, however, some characters keep pushing their luck and end up reaping terrible ends.

These side characters go through the ordeals they invite upon themselves, but through Xuxu's rippling existence in their lives, they retrieve the strength to rectify their wrongs. And, once again, they stand on the path they should be on.

Ten stars

I don't know what you're doing if you're not reading this! The translation is superb, they even have a movie/drama out. It's the kind of story that focuses on character interactions and development, in turn these developments lead to fascinating events! <<less

Overall, I think I finished the novel due to the fact that I’m just really fond of the drama that was adapted from say novel.

I also liked Xu Xu and Ji Bai but I just don’t like how the author executed Yao Meng and that one Zi guy, forgot his name.

As a promising criminal profiler student, the author didn’t give Yao Meng enough due respect. Yao Meng came off as s*upid, lovestruck and short sighted. She cried because she didn’t get Ji Bai to be her teacher?

Chinese authors, women authors... more>> at that need to give us women more credit. We don’t sit around scheming and calculating how to get Adonis to notice us. Then turn around and scheme on how to get rid of the female lead. We’re more than white lotus/green-tea bit*h or even female friend A B and C.

And also, lately I wonder how Ji Bai even fell for Xu Xu but considering that I read the first 50 chapters a year ago and just finished the rest today maybe that’s why I can’t rememeber. <<less

I really love this novel. And I've read this translation twice even though it's not completed : (.

I totally love the way their relationship is progressing. They seem so natural and there is no tension, nothing seems out of place. They're honest with their feelings and even though they're completely two different persons they complement each other perfectly and accept each other all flaws.

Storyline is great, I really like criminal aspect of this drama. Everything is written clearly and neatly so not confusing at all. Hope to see few last... more>> chapters translated somewhere near in the future. I'm so curious! And almost whole book is translated!! It's so sad that we're almost there but not yet. <<less

So far (c50) the plot has moved along steadily following various cases. The romance aspect seems slow but I feel it has been progressing at a pace suitable to the personalities of XuXu and JiBai.

Other than the relationship between the MC and male lead, I also like the way the MC and her brother interacts. The MC may not be expressive with her feelings but still shows her concern in her own way; and her brother understands her so don’t really pressure her to be more ‘normal’ or interferes with... more>> her life. <<less

What? ? ? You haven't started? ? Read it now! Binged-read it for a day haha

The way the author wrote the novel is sophisticated. The mystery and thrill of each cases were brought forward gradually and accompanying it are pretty realistic methods on how police officers solve cases. He/she also added wordplays at the right moment and the pace of the novel is just right for me :)

The romance is sweet and steady too that's why I think their love for each other blossomed beautifully.

Kudos to the translators as... more>> well! They did a good job in delivering this masterpiece to us! :) <<less

Love it. It's really good. The author can really write good stories on (referring to when he comes close your eyes). It's very gentle (although it has crime scenes and stuff but it still gives me

off a gentle feeling somehow) and I absolutely love both the male and female leads. They have such a wonderful relationship.

Just brilliant. 10/10

Clever, intriguing writing, the translating done with care and appreciation and clear editing for a cherry on top.

This is honestly one of my favourite stories (CN or otherwise) ever.

... more>> A clever mixing of an engaging crime thriller, that always keeps you guessing and on the edge of your toes, and sweet romance. (I love crime stories and shows and have read and watched enough to appreciate the wit behind this one)

While I have seen a comment on a slow start, honestly I wouldn't not have it any other way. The female lead is clever and independent and although somewhat naïve, is not dense but rather extremely perceptive. (I must say I was getting sick of the typical dense female leads). Love the ML too

I won't say anymore - if your reading this, spend that time reading this novel instead ? <<less

The main story was so adorable. But the main dish was the side story.
Spoiler

I was so mesmerized by the details of the hunt and the feels that the two “stranger” went through and how they started doing what they did. It was so beautiful and scary how the author went from Lin Qingyan story to Fengye. Just too fascinating, it tickled my heart.

This is a detective story with a very good setting, the author executes it very well. The translating is good and very satisfying.

I repeat This is not a romance story, but a detective story.... the summary is misleading.

I read this novel because I liked the name "When A Snail Loves" and the summary that is well written. So I was anticipating a slow romance... but both FL and ML soon realized their feeling and there was no delay in confessing and getting together. Yes, they both are adorable and cute... more>> but Most of the plot circulates around solving the crimes and finding the serial killers and drug dealers, and arresting some mafia bosses. <<less

I normally don't like novels about crimes and investigations but I found this novel kinda refreshing and I didn't feel bored or uninterested while reading about all the cases they had to investigate, so, for that reason I'm giving a five star rating.

Spoiler

Plot

The story is about an extremely intelligent and capable intern and criminal profiler that graduated in psychoanalysis, the female lead Xu Xu x the extremely handsome and capable investigator that ended up becoming the female lead's teacher, he is the male lead Ji Bai. While solving the cases together they ended up falling in love.

[collapse]

My favorite part of the novel is...

Spoiler

... how proficient the female lead is. She's naturally very talented because she has a high IQ (Intelligence Quociente) and high analysis perception which makes her an excellent criminal profiler. But unfortunately she has a low EQ (Emotional Intelligence), which I think can be very common with extremely intelligent people. But at the same time, I feel that the author put the male lead in the spotlight as the hero, diluting the brightness of female lead.

Another thing that I liked, is how the male lead was the first one to start liking the protagonist and how he was decisive in his pursuing..

He boldly thought:

'Xu Xu, Teacher wants to eat you, and sooner or later, I'm going to.' 🫣 So shameless...

But this is my personal preference, because I really hate to read novels with protagonists that fall in love first, that insistently pursue their love interest while being humiliated...

So since male lead falls in love first, it's really funny and cute to read about how his impressions of female lead went from a fragile pale little zombie (and yes, those are the exactly words he used to describe female lead), to a cute girl, and finally to wifey material 😂

[collapse]

But what annoyed me in the novel...

Spoiler

... is how they described the female lead, as someone weird, plain, boring, antisocial and not attractive, they literally described her as a pale little zombie... not that I'm against looking average main characters, but it was really annoying how they kept comparing female lead with the extremely stunning beauty intern and colleague and the excessively handsome male lead...

Like, in the novel he was described as extremely handsome, extremely talented and successful, very sociable and likable with everyone around him, oh not to mention that he also comes from a rich family. Basically a god perfect guy. And each chapter, his handsomeness is praised over and over again. Doesn't that makes people have the desire to scratch off his annoying face? 😂... Anyway, reading about the perfection of male lead over and over was so tiresome and annoying but look what he said about the female lead:

'Even though she did not look as brilliant as other women, she looked refreshing and cute like a soft animal.'

And even male lead's mother said that female lead wasn't pretty enough. What the hell? Is that supposed to be a compliment to your wife? I got really unsatisfied with the author for keep bringing up the appearance of female lead and male lead's all the time.

[collapse]

Besides, some developments in the novel didn't make sense to me, like...

Spoiler

... how second male lead Ye Zixiao falls in love with female lead almost instantaneously and with no apparent reason. Like, they met for the first time during a crime scene and in the next day he went to that same crime scene, which was a park, with the intention to meet her with because he wanted to start a relationship... and when she said no, he followed her for the whole day... it was kinda weird... and in the same way that he appeared out of nowhere he disappeared in the same way...

Also, another part of the story that was weird for me, is how the main couple in the story were able to accurately create the profiles of the criminals... Like, I don't understand anything about criminal profiling... but I'm not sure if the identification of the psychological traits of the suspects can be so easily constructed in a short period of time and with little information and in the end, producing such accurate and detailed psychological analysis, making so easy to identify and find the criminal...

But, hey... maybe I'm wrong, and the criminal profilers can be so badass like that...

[collapse]

Anyway, I think this is a reasonable story that mix crimes and investigations with some fluffy and romantic moments... it's a good read 🙃 <<less

I'll write shortly. This novel for me has two parts: The first part where it's more easygoing, lime lighting Ji Bai and Xu Xu (though they had some tense moments), then the Xu Xu's friend Yao Meng, then the cops, in the end, the victims and the criminal cases. And the second part where it's more gory and mature by the second female lead being in the limelight slowly but surely.

Spoiler

In my opinion, honestly after the second part (case relating Yao Meng, the second female lead) started, ML and FL didn't feel interesting to read any longer, cause I get it, they were meant together from chapter 1, and then they got together, and that's it, after the first part ended. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy Ji Bai and Xu Xu's personalities and character settings, and I am not condemning the author for changing the limelight to Yao Meng slowly, I actually liked that change, but that's how I felt while reading regarding the second part in the last 30-40 chapters.

I'm so glad Yao Meng got her happy ending (bonus chapter), well.......... not the best, but through the imperfect ending, it made it more realistic.

The bonus chapters about the killers felt shallow and overall disgusting, as psychopaths are. Especially feng tr*sh, as author didn't explain how he became like that properly, from his childhood, just that his adopted deaf parents really worked hard for him, and he for some reason has bad opinion about them, as far as I remember.

Glad most of the criminals in this novel went to jail.

[collapse]

3.5 stars, 4 stars because of Yao Meng.

I do recommend, if you would like romance cop, mystery, psychological and gore/mature (second part+tags).

P.S.: Bed scenes, vaguely detailed.

Goodnight. <<less

I love this novel so much!

It's not my first time reading it but I finally decided to write a review about it!

The romance progress was unexpectedly smooth, but then the plot of the story said yeet you now have to deal with psychos gurl lol. It's a cute quick binge if you want some detective action and fluffy romance!

Initially, I want to give this novel a 5 stars but I decide to rate it 4.5 stars instead because there is still a loose end in the end.

Spoiler

It's about Zhang Shiyong. After manipulating his in law's family (including his wife) to mu*der his mistress, he still got away with it in the end and even became more successful. Even Feng Ye (Yao Meng's psychopath ex boyfriend) got his retribution but no news about Zhang Shiyong and also Ye Zixiao. Speaking of Ye Zixiao, he's quite pitiful. I wish he gets his happy ending too like Yao Meng.

Honestly, I'm not too fond of Yao Meng's character. She often got carried away by her emotion. But after she encountered 2 psychopath's boyfriend, I feel a bit pity for her so I'm happy she ends up with Ji Bai's best friend.

[collapse]

Regardless of the loose end, the story is still enjoyable. I'm satisfy about how author wrapping Xu Xu and Ji Bai's story. I definitely watch the drama version next time. <<less

This is fluffy and awesome ?

I love their interactions, especially the date part when they are both sniffing each other out if the other has feeling or if the other is a good relationship to have, etc. I love the way she is with her brother and how her brother looks out for her. Great novel if you are looking to read a mystery+romance+suspense (mild) in a chill way type of novel. If you like When He Comes, Close Your Eyes by the same author, you'll definitely like this too.

I've read many of Ding Mo's works that were set in the same "universe" and this novel is probably my favourite one. Ji bai and Xu xu are just so adorable and a perfect match together. I also liked how they didn't have a crazy, possesive relationship which seems to be in so many other asian novels. Ummm... The series lacked romance and some details, and the book had an overabundance of details and cliches.
I don’t understand how the heroine, with her stated analytical abilities, ended up at the police station in the first place. Because such people are captured by the security service even during their studies. They are not allowed out into the field; they sit in offices, almost no one sees them, and outside the system, few people know about them.
Strange story. I won't reread it.

What's good is that there are interesting... more>> investigations. The bad thing is that the author reduced all the initial ambitions of the positive female characters to the Chinese version of the German KKK. Damn, this is burying talents in the ground!

I liked the scene at the end of the series

I should say the ML and FL were the most adorable and cutest couple ever!

Spoiler

Our little petite yet mature and steadfast FL was simply most cutest character out there! The synopsis is a bit misleading on the fact that she has low eq, though she lacked social skills and was blunt and straightforward and bombed people about her opinions on them without any care of the other person, she was sensitive to emotions, like she rather quickly realized she was attracted to Ml

Like it was simply soooo adorable the way she carried out her operandi to test him out and know him properly before deciding to make a move on him seriously. Like her brain circuit is really amusing and it would have been interesting and funny to see the reaction of ML if he came to know about her inner thoughts.

Like how she deduced his character, principles and behavior, especially on the day they hung out with manman and her bf, and how she specially strikes up conversation with that Zhao guy I guess (her marksmanship tutor) about ml.

[collapse]

And I guess their chemistry and respect for one another, their clear cut private and work life, everything was sweet, perfect and awesome! <<less
