Chu Yang, the Ninth Master of the Nine Tribulations Sword, sacrificed almost everything he had for the sake of improving his martial arts, including the love of his life. After spending three years locating the fifth fragment of the Nine Tribulations Sword, he was ambushed by all sides at that very place. Mortally injured with no means of escape, Chu Yang executed a sacrificial technique by plunging the Nine Tribulations Sword into his very own heart. “With the blood of my heart, ten thousand tribulations will collapse!”

After witnessing the death of all his ambushers, Chu Yang’s vision began to darken. At a distance, moments before his death, he saw the mastermind who had plotted his downfall — Mo Tian Ji. With that, his eyes finally closed.

However, with a start, Chu Yang once again awoke to find that he had returned to when he was sixteen years of age! Furthermore, the Sword Spirit of the Nine Tribulations Sword now resided within his Dantian, the energy center of his body! From that very moment, Chu Yang would then begin to right all of his past regrets, and carve his very own legend by fulfilling his destiny as the final Master of the Nine Tribulations Sword, and defeating the Heavenly Devils beyond the realm of the Nine Heavens Continent.

First things first: I enjoyed it. It was a typical verbose translated Xianxia with lots of fights and cultivation.

Some specifics: I could only find a part of it translated, and had to read the last 1000+ chapters in decent machine translation, which is still not great, so overall not too bad, but it's a challenge.

There is a small harem, but it's pretty much set at the beginning and the women stay with the MC to the end, and get strong and fight along with the MC. There are even a... more>> couple of supporting characters whose wives are also their comrades. Overall, not bad. Except for the four women, there is no flirting with other women. There was an unfortunate use of aphrodisiac early in the plot.

Some of humor is very funny, but unfortunately some of it is very juvenile; up to (down to?) bathroom joke. In the beginning it might be appropriate since the MC and his friends are teen/early twenties boys, but still annoying.

A lot of friendly interactions are clumsy. People express friendliness by beating each other up (without cultivation), even a woman does that at times. Husbands are periodically shown as very henpecked; showing intimacy is apparently is a challenge for this author (as it is for his characters).

Cultivation levels are okay in the beginnings, but very fuzzy and confusing towards the end. The MC sometimes can jump levels to fight, and other times cannot.

The usual Xianxia exaggerated numbers. World-building is sometimes quite inconsistent. Plot armor is uneven -- sometimes the MC gets the benefit of incredible luck, but once in a while, everything (deliberately) goes against him.

A bunch of things are unexplained at the end, but the major plot conflicts are resolved.

Despite its flaws and period treatment of supporting characters an cannon fodder, the MC shows quite a bit of decency in his relationship with family, sworn brothers, his love interest (4 women), and generally avoiding mass slaughter. <<less

I don't want to disrespect anybody but I have to say it!

FORGET ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEW BELOW OR ABOVE ME because I as novel maniac who has finished almost every popular novel being translated now have also finished reading this novel by reading it nonstop for 7 days. Yes all 2500+ chapter, finished And I have only one thing to say, this novel is a fu*king Masterpiece.

It's got out of the world comedy, action, also fulfilling romance that you don't see in any other novel. Most of all not one... more>> character in this novel is a brain dead idiot or s*upid. Every character is unique and their characteristics are very detailed. Moreover, the plot of this novel is awesome, almost has no plot holes at all, most of all despite having more than 2000+ chapters its not repetitive, yes... people it is not repetitive!

if there was rating more than 5, I would give it 55! The plot and the characters are well throughout and comes together perfectly. The power divisions are well thought out as well. The MC is open-minded and doesn't do mindless slaughter if there's no need for it. Moreover, the MC is cunning as a fox until the very end of the novel, he doesn't get s*upid as his powers grow like we see in many other novel.

Yes, he's ruthless too, but he's not unreasonable. As a romance novel fan, I specially love this novel, as you all realized from the harem tag, the MC has several wifus. Each wifu has their own unique characteristics they don't mindlessly fall for the MC like we see in some tr*sh (!) novel, their relationship slowly builds up and all of them are very dedicated and compassionate. It also shows the various troubles of harem and slowly solves these issues by facing many situations and slowly building up mutual trust and understanding between the various wifus. The villains are all have unique characteristics as well, they plot and they see reason, they know when to back down, which is pretty nonexistent in most novel.

Politics, plotting, action, romance, comedy, adventures this novel has all of em and more.

I read this novel nonstop for 7 days and I didn't feel bored at all, every chapter was interesting and was a fun read.

In the end if you still don't understand the awesomeness of this piece of gold then if yoh this CD, ATG, BTTH, ISSTH etc are awesome novel then this novel is legendary level novel. <<less

been reading it since chapter 3... easily on my top 5 for novels. MC is smart and thinks out the consequences of his actions (as in, not just killing everything that offends him). The language is poetic and the story is quite well-written. The characters are well-developed. Usually, in Xianxia's it's good if I can even connect with the MC, but in this novel I can connect with the side characters too. TT^TT I got the feels, man... the feels...

This novel is the prime example of how a good novel can be ruined by the author himself. There are many things which I can talk about for hours and hours. So bear with me because this review is going to be long.

The novel starts off good. We get a MC who travels back in time. Now this premise you may have seen already a thousand times in manga or other light novel. But, MC behavior and his quick thinking puts this novel a level above everything else.

We have a... more>> smart MC, who thinks and acts smart. He manipulate and make use of tricks when he is weak. The first arc of the novel is amazing. About 99% of the reviews here are of the first arc (The lower heaven arc). This is one of the best arc I have read. The politics, the tactics and many more things make this a brilliant arc.

But this is the author's limit, and the novel starts to fall off from here. We are not given any details about cultivation beside the realm name (Emperor, saint, monarch, supreme). Beside knowing names we don't know anything about the realm. No details about the difference between emperor and monarch and saint level beside each realm is stronger than the previous. As a reader, I want to know what makes the difference in realm. If you read ISSTH there is a clear difference in cultivation levels and what makes each one different. This novel doesnt have any of it. So you will be pretty disappointed.

Now, lets come to the character development.

While I was reading through this novel, I was often asking myself. Is there any character development? After reading all the way to 2000+ chapters, I realize there was none.

The author made us think there is a lot of development, but there is absolutely none. We are introduced to characters, then they go for training, separate from MC and then boom they level up like MC. Then they meet MC after some time and boom, they are stronger like MC. Then after the arc is over, they separate from MC at the start of every arc for various reasons.

The one thing I was sick of this novel was its over the top brotherly love (bromance). There were times when I was going to drop the novel cause of it. It just felt forced.

Now lets come to the battle. The author suck a'ss at writing the battles. Battles go like this-

"take my move, cold ray piercing the heavens"

"How did he block my move? Here take my 36 moves combined, what harm is there slaughtering the world"

The battles here pretty much goes like this without any description. It feels bland. Even a 3rd grader has vivid imagination compared to this author in terms of writing a fight scene. You can skip all the fight scenes and it still wont affect you.

Now lets come to progression. He will level up with all the difficulties and boom, his brothers and love interest as well as his subordinate will level up without any problem. A peerless ARMY.!!

Now lets come to fillers. This author loves to write useless chapters upon chapters without any significance. In every arc there will be a chase scene where MC will be chased for 30-50 chapters. This happens in every fking arc. So much, that you will skim these chapters in bulk.

Now lets come to romance. This author should write a shoujo novel instead of a cultivation. Useless drama. Things which could be sort out with talking are transformed into a whole new level of misunderstanding for hundred of chapters. Fking bullshit. You will get so much rage that I can't even describe it here.

Overall this novel is really bland after the first arc. Repeated jokes, plots and events makes you pull your hairs. There will be time when you will just skip chapters to see what happens next.

And then there will be time when you will finally realize why the hell are you wasting your time reading this?

Just like me. <<less

I want to rate this 3.7 stars but I can't so I'll just round up to 4. As one of my first few xianxias I definitely thought of it highly at the time but after reading some better works, I now realize that this isn't as good as I thought.
Spoiler

Firstly, I want to commend Walk The Jiang Hu for his excellent work in translating this novel. He is clearly well versed in Chinese as well as the wuxia/xuanhuan genre, his TL notes are definitely worth reading - he explains the names, terminology used, common Chinese expressions, references to other wuxia works and he even drew diagrams to illustrate hard to visualise scenes. Truly I have not seen many translators as dedicated and passionate about their work as this guy. I would definitely recommend this translation to anyone without any reservations.

Now as for the novel itself, now that I have read 7 volumes of this (there are 8 volumes in total, the 8th volume alone having over 900 chapters in it) I think I'm ready to make a conclusive judgment.

It was okay up to the middle layer. The start was absolutely perfect, definitely 5 star material. It had one of the best starts of any reincarnation novel. At the bottom layer it was good, all the secret scheming and tactics used was fresh and exciting. Schemes were continually deployed against one another and he was constantly striving for his goals, which were foreshadowed nicely. He faced dangers which he had to resolve using cunning and intelligence, and it was very interesting to see these 2 factions go against each other. The harem was justified because the 2 girls fell in love with him after spending a long time and getting to know him, so it's not like they fell in love for no reason. The dialogue was never very good though, they barely ever said anything to each other that might realistically resemble what partners might say to each other. At the middle layer the MC and his friends made good use of the tensions between different clans to manipulate them to their advantage. This is where it started getting worse. For example the juvenile humor where they just started beating each other up over petty squabbles acting like teenage delinquents (actually worse than that). The tension started dissipating once Mo Qing Wu was safe and Mo Tian Ji was firmly on the MC's side. At that point the novel started clearly going downhill and became a chore to read.
Once they got to the top layer the brains appeared to fall out of all the characters and the battles became much less exciting for example in the lower level the armies used terrain and formation to their advantage and heavily employed deception, in the top layer it was just mindless throwing people at each other without any regard for tactics. I know the author explained this by saying that high level cultivators can just ignore terrain and in the top layer strength trumps intelligence, but this is clearly not true because the MC hides in the snow and digs through mountains which is clearly using terrain to his advantage. Also the challenges that the MC and his friends faced became a lot less exciting and the way they solved it also was less interesting. One time the MC's new harem member was about to get taken to the higher realm and the MC suddenly went crazy and attacked the hand that was taking her and cut off one of the fingers, even though that could have killed him and he did it for no reason since the woman wasn't under any threat either. He just acted rashly for no reason.
The biggest problem was that once the MC found his parents the motivation for the story was basically lost. Literally the only reason for the MC to go up to the higher realm now was 1). To revive Wu Qing Qing and 2). To find his other harem member who went up. It's pretty easy to predict what would happen so there's basically no suspense from then on. Kind of like the case with RITF now actually. Once the MC got to the higher realm there's no real reason to keep reading anymore since pretty much all the mysteries have been solved and everything he wanted to achieve had been achieved. He was supposed to go fight the demons because that was his "fate", even though he could actually just choose not to. In the end he only went up to revive Wu Qing Qing and find the other girl and there was just no tension at that point so I stopped reading.
I was disappointed once they revealed the purpose of the 9-tribulations-sword. It is one of the blandest you can possibly imagine. It was created to select someone with the potential to fight the demon tribe on another plane. Feng Ling Tian Xia seems to love the idea of the human-eating demon tribe a lot, he uses the same idea in RITF as well. This godlike item was actually just a piece of tr*sh thrown away by an even more godlike cultivator. Actually this is typical of the novel in that a lot of the things like the sword arts that came with the 9 tribulations sword are not really described in detail, like I don't even know if it's a stab or a slash or if it's AOE or single target or what. The novel kind of just glosses it over. A lot of the major details are glossed over like this, as if the novel doesn't want you to really think about it, and that's fine, but since the details are lacking, we don't really know what to do think about the MC's decisions since we don't know the context fully. For example the MC decided not to put the phoenix's soul into the sword. How much more powerful would that have made the sword? How long would it take to get the same level of power otherwise? A lot of these details are omitted so we don't really know what the MC sacrificed to save the phoenix and so the emotional impact is not really there.
The setting in this novel isn't very imaginative, it's pretty much just normal swordfighting or palm strikes. There aren't any interesting treasures or abilities like you can find in Reincarnator or LSG for example (and I don't even think LSG is that imaginative). This would be okay if the writing was really good, and it was really good to begin with, but it got dull later on and the lack of imagination made it stand out all the more.
Cultivation increasing with fighting, that is something that is definitely not "standard" for a cultivation novel. Normally people increased cultivation by shutting themselves alone in a room and meditating, whereas here it is by fighting to the death. You'd have thought that other people would have realized this? It is kind of obvious. In LSG this type of cultivation is also included as the main cultivation method in one of the many realms in LSG (there are probably countless realms in LSG). Definitely the world in LSG is far more imaginative and expansive than the one in TTNH.
Additionally, the number 9 is used a lot in this novel. I don't know what is the obsession with the number 9. The sword is made of 9 parts, the MC has 9 friends (actually more than that, but the rewards will only go to 9 people) there are 9 realms etc. It feels forced and not a natural consequence of anything in the story. There's a lot about talk of fate and destiny of the nine-tribulations-sword-master. Intrinsically the kind of novel that talks about the fate of the protagonist is limited because either the MC succumbs to his fate or he doesn't, but either way he's still driven by his desire to go against his preordained destiny and not striving for something real and tangible. This makes the novel feel restricted in a way and not as expansive as one which is not restricted by such notions of fate and destiny.
The plot of this story is very similar to RITF. MC gets reincarnated to repent to his former love interest, along the way he picks up a harem and some friends, they fight against demons from another realm, etc. After a while you just think: "did the author run out of ideas already?".
The characters are not bad, but most of them are pretty dumb. The're lucky that they weren't exposed to situations where intelligence is required or they would have died a billion times already. A lot of the time they just say or do something that's courageous but obvious and that's the end. It's not psychological like Reincarnator. Actually now that I have read Reincarnator the psychology in this novel feels really amateur in comparison. In Reincarnator the characters are constantly exposed to situations where acting in accordance with common sense would get them killed, so only the smart characters survived. In this novel, basically the only smart characters are the MC, Mo Tian Ji and Di Wu Qing Rou, and maybe the forest spirit guy forgot his name. Most of the MC's friends are actually dumb as a brick, like literally dumber than your typical 16 year old. The "brotherly love" in this actually feels disgusting. They say things to each other that actually made me feel a bit sick like they were homosexuals or something. The love between the MC and his harem members also made me feel a bit sick like I was watching some 3rd-rate romance drama.

This novel is the worst I have ever read in my life.

I wish I could rate it lower that 1 star, it deserves nothing for it's s*upidity.

as of 435 the MC has the main waifu who was with in his first life and he is pursuing in his second life, all good.

BUT

enter ret*rded female lead number two and number three

Spoiler

Not only do they NEVER tell him about their feelings or talk about them at all, THEY ACTIVELY GASLIGHT HIM into not loving them and then COMPLAIN ABOUT IT.

The first girl, Wu Qian Qian, has literally no reason not to confess and try to convince him to take her with him, she is actively willing to give her life for him, and he knows this but she never puts it in words, she just passively waits for him. She even left her fathers sect to be a fake him in the country and keep his role alive. She has ZERO basis for being this devoted, and no spine to do anything substantial about it.

The second massive idiot, Tie But Tian. This titanic idiot pretends to be a man so she can lead her country in her fathers place, dope right? NO she is a massive idiot. She falls in love with the MC Chu Yang and in his interactions with her there is a lot of hints that she is female, but 350 chapters in and he has no idea. THEN she has to have s*x with him to heal him of some Lust Poison, and from what she feels and thinks we can safely assume that she is now pregnant. Now, Does she tell him so he can be a good man and be with her for her life, and their child? GOD NO, she LIES to him about it, and tells him that she found some random peasant to r*pe, and then that she killed him "for his sake" this is the single most absurd thing I have ever seen. She does not deserve any sympathy for her s*upidity.

The MC is now in love with some random FAKE peasent girl he thinks he r*ped and got killed to save his own life, and he almost kills Tie But Tian after she lies to him about this, AND THEN she complains that he isn't this in love with her and only likes the girl she made up when she HAS NEVER TOLD HIM THAT SHE IS ACTUALLY A GIRL. She expects to be loved when Chu Yang doesn't even know her gender is female. I want to die this is awful

[collapse]

never read this if you care about character relationships or development. There is none and it is literally worse than the characters doing nothing.

0 out of 5, nothing was planned out, characters don't matter, no background worth a damn and everything gets forgotten after a few hundred chapters of random gaslighting and filler. <<less

This novel is a MUST read. Antagonist that are lovable, and *waggle eyebrows* honorable. You can't hate them but instead respect them. I, your grandmother will say ahwooh to those who will disagree. *Taste my sword (2x) * lol.
You don't get it? Read it. But seriously, this novel showcased the most moving brotherhood of all stories. The level of emotion that you will invest in sadness is equal to the exhilaration it will give you. It's a hot boiling, exciting, and to die for comedy novel.

TtNH is in many ways my favorite novel, particularly when reading Walk the Jiang Hu's translations.

I think everyone's already covered why TtNH is awesome. The protagonist is great, the antagonist is excellent, other characters are three-dimensional, the story's well-written, and so on. There are a few things that not everyone likes, though, which I'd like to address.

The MC makes it clear that his primary concern is not to gain more power, but to ensure his beloved's happiness this time around.

He comes to realize that, in his first life, he'd... more>> been so driven by his need for vengeance and power that he'd caused her to quietly wither away to her death, and he refuses to do that to her again. Chu Yang's determination to keep Qing Wu happy and regain her love is sometimes extremely humorous, sometimes absolutely epic. He's willing to sacrifice his time and stunt his martial growth for this cause (which makes him quite different from other novels' MCs who vaguely argue that they pursue power to protect loved ones, then disprove the idea by drawing the ire of increasingly powerful enemies). This doesn't mean that Chu Yang doesn't become stronger, but his journey is more purposeful. Personally, I love this aspect of the novel, but if you're looking for an MC who desires to become stronger at all costs and grabs every opportunity to do so, I suggest looking elsewhere.

The immature comedy that's a staple of the author's stories.

Fengling writes complex novels, filling them with formidable enemies and machinations. However, rather than making us read hundreds of chapters of seriousness, he intersperses them with puerile humor. I (and most of the story's readers, honestly) think that the contrast works very well, and while some of the bouts of comedy simply make you smile or chuckle on your way to the next period of SRS BZNS, others are quite unforgettable (Chu Yang's indignant "Your mother's fart!" speech often comes to my mind). However, these comedic moments are not enjoyed by everyone, and probably not always by anyone, because their method of breaking up tension can cause a scene to lose authenticity or characters to lose gravitas. Personally, I enjoy at least 9 out of every 10 such slapstick situations, and only a few make me frown.

The author's cultivation stories don't pay much attention to cultivation.

Again, it's not something limited to TtNH. While it can be refreshing to read a Xuanhuan or Xiaxia where cultivation isn't the most important thing, not everyone will be pleased about that aspect of this novel. I am ambivalent about how TtNH shows from fairly early on that the lower cultivation levels aren't worth much. Of the 11 or so martial (cultivation) levels, anyone who's not in the highest 3 or 4 seems to live a pretty shitty life: in nearly every engagement, the first five, "Martial Pupil" through "Martial Grandmaster, " are just going to get mowed down; "Revered Martial Artists" are actually treated more like dogs; "Martial Kings, " despite the lofty title, are more often than not simple bodyguards. It often makes me wonder why anyone actually wants to pursue the martial path. The novel's also inconsistent about the disparities between levels, and tries to set up a system of checks and balances to explain why the most powerful cultivators can't run around doing as they like, but often contradicts itself. On this note, my biggest gripe with the novel is how it stops taking into account level and numerical differences for minor plot purposes, or to turn a struggle around. For example, at first, a "Martial King" can move and strike faster than "Revered Martial Artists" can react to. Later, a "Revered Martial Artist" can outpace and dodge dozens of "Martial Kings" for hours.

Over-the-top situations.

In wanting to express how significant a problem is, TtNH may toe the line of realism (personally, I think it sometimes treads well past it). Like, the amount of... enemies of the state that Chu Yang discovers as the "King of Hell Chu, " and their passive responses to being discovered, boggle the mind. The antagonist is a legitimate threat, but considering how many plans, fail-safes, and agents he ends up having, you might wonder why he even felt the need to have so many fingers in the pie, given how they've far passed the point of efficiency and each one is a liability. Whether it seems like prudence or oversaturation is up to you. <<less

Review update

Soo what to say.... this is awesome!!! First of all, of course, it has cultivation, good fights and interesting world like xianxia should have (and xianxia lovers like). Secondly, this MC is probably my favorite among xianxia novels. He is smart, scheming, resourceful and very funny (and of course with great cultivation potential). Thirdly this novel probably has the best comedy elements I've read in xianxia. BUT THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS NOVEL, in my opinion, are its antagonists. In most xianxias (even in ISSTH and Panlong....I love them... more>> most by the way) the personalities of antagonists are arrogant, drunk on power and cowardly when backed in a corner. But not here... Here most opponents of MC have their ideals, goals, pride, and dignity. They have their unique traits and they are not just some characters for MC to step on and kill. Sometimes you sympathize and feel sad for them, sometimes you see their loyalty to their ideals, goals and you feel respect, sometimes you see their friendship and can't help but like them. Also, one reviewer here, who read all raw chapters, wrote that the author does not drop the quality of the story till the end. In conclusion, this is one of the best (maybe even best) xianxia among translating ones (and I'm reading nearly all of currently translating xianxias). Translation speed is pretty good and translation quality is amazing. If you like xianxia (or if you just like action fantasy genres with strategy elements) this is a must-read.

Update chapter 1127

You would think the quality would drop drastically or the story would become boring after a while but I was nearly bawling (f@@@ing onion ninjas) while reading some chapters. Still great, still one of the best reads out there among xianxia genre. <<less

Fails to please. Starts off strong, goes down fast.

The story starts off great with great premise and continues on for about 400 chapters. Characters are getting introduced while the main character starts to get stronger and stronger over time. None of the powerups is idiotic and all of them make sense. however. After chapter 500, the same thing happens again! It's unbelievable! The same plot, the same arc that took 500 chapters (it was purposefully lengthened, obviously) is being duplicated with different characters. It makes absolutely no sense! Every single... more>> detail is almost the same but with higher cultivation and higher ranked characters.

Long short story, while the novel starts off really well. It cannot hold its position and unfortunately becomes a random face-slap cultivation novel. With all Xianxia troupes included. <<less

So far I'm in love. The characters (good and bad) are well thought out. You can feel the romance and care between characters. The fights feel realistic in a sense and the power system is (although generic in a sense) well done. The world building is satisfactory right now (assuming it will continue). The humor feels right and yeah just a smooth story so far. It is definitely worth checking out to see if it is something you'll like.

(UPDATE 2: Unfortunately, Walk the Jianghu has stopped translating this story, and it has been picked up by a significantly less skilled group. The story is still brilliant but the lower quality definitely hurts.)

(UPDATE: Caught up with the story, and it has only gotten better since my original review.)

Read up to 168, review might contain some very mild spoilers. A truly unique Chinese novel. The MC is OP, but for the story so far his strength is actually below that of most of the experts around... more>> him. He's formidable, but can be easily killed if he doesn't pick his battles. Thus, he relies on politics, strategy, and trickery, along with his old memories, to accomplish his goals.

A theme of the novel is that a single person's brute strength is almost meaningless in matters of war, and the MC has to approach things from a national perspective. There are very few cookie cutter villains, and his current nemesis is one of the scariest in all fiction despite being a non-cultivator. This novel also has some of the best humor I've ever read. Many chapters had me almost falling out of my chair. Yet when things are serious, it can get really dark. 5/5. <<less

Read about 400 chaps. Top of my reading list at the moment. While most other novels give the feeling of nobility/gentleman (DE, Stellar) or craziness (ATG, ISSTH), this one is really good at mind game, vulgar comedy and brotherhood. There are parts that I cannot control my laugh (e.g. Chap 120-121), which never occur in the other novels.

Most of the time when you get a "smart lead" tag the main character is only intelligent half the time. Or to be more exact he has a good memory and one or two good ideas throughout novel. In this the main character is a awsomely amazing schemer and constantly puts his enemy's in a position they don't want to be in. He walks circles around them! Great writing, love it!

Imagine Death Note in wuxia form, where the protagonist is not only an expert schemer but is also talented in cultivation. If that sounds awesome to you, well it is. Replaced ISSTH as my new favorite novel of all time.

This novel is amazing, the main character is extremely smart, not in the way that he is making use of knowledge from his previous life but in making observations and making use of opportunities. The characters in this story are relatable, there is a motive behind every villain and good guys, no s*upid sh*t like 'I don't like your face so I'm gonna bully you and get killed by MC'.

My personal rant:
This is my all time favorite Xianxia/xuanhuan novel even placing it above ISSTH which is my 2nd fav in same genre.

Disclaimer:
My personal likes may give rise to bias so keep that in mind. Personally, I like LNs which have politics, word play, action and backstabbing in the story. And this matches my preference.

Review:
I have read the spoilers and story summary for the 3 books. Currently the story is just in 1st book. So I will assure you that the story of this LN is... more>> interesting. I will not say that it is amazing bcoz its not. But it is definitely a good story with excellent ending. The story development and ending is definitely better than other Xianxia novels I have read.

The LN has a LOT of politics and subtle maneuvering and manipulation rather than just full frontal all guns blazing Gung-ho Call of Duty style action like ATG or MGA. Throughout the story (till now atleast), the readers feel like they are walking on a tight rope with MC and one misstep and u will die. This kind of tension along with occasional and excellently placed comedic outbursts in the story makes it an emotional rollercoster. There is always a sense of anticipation and tension thinking what is MC and antagonist going to pull out now from their bag of tricks.

There is something for everyone here. There is politics, romance, comedy, full gung ho rambo style action, excellent world building and good story. The plot armor is there but the LN is written in such a way that plot armor despite acting up occasionally is not annoying.

The Tag [Second chance] placed here is truly well deserved. The story is written in such a way that it TRULY feels that MC is living the second life to NOT making same mistakes again unlike....*cough*... ATG, TDG & other crap. Yeah.....:) I said it.... TDG is CRAP when put against this LN apart from ISSTH, Datang Shuang Long Zhuan and may be couple others, u can find few other LN which are better WRITTEN (note the emphasis) than TTNH.

Anyways, this is definitely worth the read for excellent writing, good story, good character development and excellent side characters, well written antagonists, good written female love interests, twists and turns in story. <<less

What is there to hide? Transcending the Nine Heavens is.. None other than a Masterpiece from the Author!

The intro seems common, but if you read it you would find it different. The Reviewers already said much, and if you read it well, you will see many positive comments from them. So I don't have much to say.

I recommend this novel to you all, readers! So I declare!

Literally one of the great works ever achieved in the East, With great character driven story, with a well written romance that further bring out the best of this story.

The journey itself is amazing with each detail brings promise of more excitement and interesting plots.

For those waiting for English Translations, I pray for you cause it will hurt (the waiting) 2000+ chapters is a lot. But it will be worth it!
