In a land far away, there was a young man who was skilled at telling stories. The witch, who lived in an old mansion deep in the forest, desired to monopolize these wonderful stories.

“Why don’t you stay here forever, making stories for me alone?” she asked

“Very well”

but, can forever really be enough?

This is just a heads up. This is a fairy tale. Don't expect a tight knit sense of reality or value from it. It's a good story, mind you.

I feel betrayed right now. The story is good, it's quite a wonderful tale and a short one at that. It managed to wake quite a few emotions and it was no doubt worth my time reading it. However, I came here because it clearly said "comedy" in the tags, so I thought it'd be an amusing short story with some gags. What's up with that?

This was anything but a comedy. There wasn't a single funny thing going on here and neither was it lighthearted or satirical. It was more... more>> of a drama oneshot than anything, so I've changed the tags (the adventure tag was also wrong, this is not an adventure short either). Who the heck put these tags there? How misleading.

It was a good, touching and even somewhat tragic read so I don't regret reading it at all (I recommend it), but it's annoying nonetheless when people put tags up that don't belong there because it raises expectations for something and thus it'll affect your enjoyment of the story. Kinda like you'd spit in disgust when you drink something transparent you expected to be water but actually turned out to be something completely different. <<less

This one's sooooo good. Beautifully done. No cliches and feels like an original.

Spoiler

What I loved is how the story steers clear of cliches and goes in unexpected directions. Like, when the witch first invited the travelling story teller to her mansion, I thought this was going to be one of those "nightingale in golden cage" types confinement story. It looked to be going that way when the gourd was introduced in quite the sinister way with the soul at stake, and I expected the story teller to rebel. I was surprised by his reaction but then it did make sense. I then thought it would be a romantic story. But it wasn't exactly a typical romance either.

The ending wasn't anything dramatic but that's how fairy tales end, so I'm good with that.
