The Evil Prince and his Precious Wife: The Sly Lady

Description

A story of time-travel. Sly and cunning, she unexpectedly became a sickly noble lady whose fiancé is merciless and demotes her to a lowly concubine. She sneers and bravely breaks off the engagement. To hell with scumbags, marry heirs to lords, blind the courts with her brilliance.

But, my Lord, we agreed that we are only partnering to scheme against others, when did you start to treat acting as real? Hey, hey, don’t touch me.

The Lord smiled slyly, “Your hands are too cold, let me help you warm them… Your feet are cold too, let me help you warm them.”

“Why don’t you just say that my whole body is cold and you need to warm it all up”, Murong Xue said indignantly.

The Lord nodded, “Good idea!”

Murong Xue – speechless. Hey hey hey, where, where are you putting your hands?

Hmmm I dont know how to feel about this novel exactly. I'm currently reading the raws right now and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue the series.
Spoiler

It was interesting but then there are inconsistencies in the MC's personality or how she veiws things. For example she comes accross a total stranger found floating in the river and insists that she must save him because saving someone is more important than building 7 buddhist towers or something along that line. After this she also sees assassins/robbers attacking someone and stops to help.

But she is fine with watching her Aunt kill and burn a child and his mother, finds it entertaining and even eats candied hawthornes afterward. Her eyes were actually shining while she was relating how interesting this story was going to be when it would spread the next day. So now I'm seeing her as a sociopath, which is interesting in its own way. But I'd rather the author keep her character consistent.

Don't go on about how saving a life is so important, rescuing strangers she doesn't know who were being attacked, then in 50 or so chapters afterwards watch her Aunt bash in a child's head and burn his body while finding it entertaining. ≫.<!-- Also there were no dangers that would have happened to her whatsoever if she tried to interfere. Meh it was just a bit disturbing for me, especially when she wanted to eat candy afterwards @@.

So I'm a weee bit confused on how the author wants us to view the heroine. But now I'm leaning more towards disturbed individual, who god knows what she did in her previous life, whose morals come and go depending on the situation and if it would further the plotline or not. The strangers she saved were 1) Famous prince from another country, 2) Ye Yi Chen's father. People she didn't save were side characters that are disposable. Well I'll stick to the story a bit more to see how it goes. But can't say I have a very good view of the heroine now.

Spoiler

This novel is really different from other "time-travel" story I read before. Although like other story her power, her knowledge upper from other (but not the highest) still the same.

The one that I love and maybe that's the spoiler, until now, I don't know who is the Lord that in the "description" above (I read 255 chapters in 2 days - RAW, oh God my head). And the MC is really dense, make 'them' act so cute, hahaha~ You must read it, to know my frustration feel when other man appeared just to catch her attention, she just go with it, don't know about mmmm, best friend feeling (OF COURSE NOT!) JEALOUS.

One I love again is the MC has a lovely brother that will always there for her (although he is in the barrack and a little bit s*upid. #SometimesIsmellsomethingfishyhere).

I really recommended this for you if you like the time travel story with MC female lead from modern days. I guarantee you it's different from other. (Although I still read them like : Genius doctor black belly miss, the demonic chase his wife (this really recommended before I read this story), The good for nothing seventh young lady, the favorite golden fei, the mistake marriage match a generation of military counselor, Descent of the phoenix, evil emperor wild consort, and etc, I forgot hahaha~)

October 10, 2016 - 2 stars chapter 29

I really had high hopes for this story. But after the initial strong-handedness of the MC, she kind of just became the typical heroine in a time travel/reincarnation/transmigration novel. This quickly became one of the multiple seemingly duplicated stories that are now out concerning reincarnation. Although this in itself isn't a terrible thing, the translation quality dropped about half-way making it quite difficult to understand what was actually occurring in the story. To be honest, after reading chapter 29 and not much story... more>> progression (and giant plot-holes and convenient world reasoning dropping from the sky), I'm still confused about what's actually happening or why it's happening. It feels like the author is making the story up as they go and the translator is making it even harder to understand with the iffy translations (although I do thank the translator for translating this story; it's just that the translations are in dire need of some editing and revising).

I'm sorry if my review seems a bit confusing. At this point, I would say read the story at your own risk. If you like the typical reincarnation stories and don't mind ambiguous text, then more power to you. I might revisit the story again at a later date to reassess the novel, but for now, my opinion of this novel remains low.

March 15, 2017- 5 stars chapter 77
I went back after more chapters of the story were translated and after chapter 29, the translated chapters have improved drastically and so has the way that the story is conveyed. It seems as if most of the confusion that I felt from the story was attributed to content lost in poor translation. Now that the translation has improved I would recommend to plow through the poorly translated chapters that last until chapter 29 or so. The story gets WAY WAY WAY better.

December 30, 2019- 1 star I give up

I tried to be fair, I really did. I just can't get past how badly the story is translated after chapter 114. I see a general trend with the current translator (Flying Lines) around other translations on NU and have begun to ignore every one of their works because of the sheer lack of coherency and effort in their translations: everything is literally copied and pasted from google translate or some other machine translator.

Granted, there are other machine translators on this platform, but the vast majority actually attempt to create some semblance of coherency because they are are translating novels that they love and would like to share with others. They pour in time and effort and it is very clear to readers like me who have been on this website for years.

I'm not the pickiest when it comes to reading novels with poor translations, which can be seen by the sheer amount of attention I gave this novel in the beginning and the fact that I keep coming back to rate it. There are many stories out there that start off poorly translated but improve with every chapter as amateur translators become more and more experienced; it's a wonderful process to witness. The same cannot be said with this translator group. They just pick up novels, like this one, cut, paste, release, rinse and repeat for every one of their novels. Hundred upon hundreds of cryptically translated chapters are released with a clear lack of improvement.... and for what... to grab the attention of the previous reader base?

I'm too angry to even read anything they translate because every time I read something that they put out (many of them previously popular novels on NU before Flying Lines got ahold of them), the quality takes a nosedive and reading the novel feels like trying to get out of a never-ending maze.

I refuse to read and rate this novel any further until someone else either translates it or I decide to mtl this myself. Neither of which is happening due to my own frustration.

I apologize to whoever read this far for letting my emotions get the better of me, as this translator isn't the first to do something like this. However, I'm sure there are others out there who feel the same. I just needed to get this weight off of my chest and share my honest opinion. Thanks for reading this essay :) <<less

MC is no Mary Sue, but I love her for it. It gives me genuine reason to worry for her when she encounters issues because I don't automatically assume she can face slap or poison her way out of everything. So I don't know what half these other reviews are talking about.

M.C. Is cool, she's no pro martial artist and she is physically weak but the martial arts she does know helps her scr*pe by compared to other women who don't practice martial arts at all. So she's admirable to... more>> others on that front. Her recurring illness (by poison) is her weak spot and people try to use it against her meaning that she isn't flawless and without openings, and this makes her more human are a character and adds depth versus your regular Mary Sue. However she is indeed sly like the title indicates because she has very clever ways of handling problems using logic instead of sheer force. (Like public shaming people into behaving). Also it's a nice touch that her only living family, her brother is on her side about everything, although he is also young and becomes a weakness that drags her down as of now. <<less

This is well-paced (plot moves quickly) so you don't get bored and there are updates almost daily. It is a stereotypical transmigration story, but the MC does not waste time in showing her cleverness. I like that she's a bit ruthless. Characters seem human with their arrogance and contradictory personalities (ruthless but soft).

This novel walks on the edge of cringy and mediocre. Everything that happens, happens because the author says so. There is no explanation, no rhythm, no method to the madness. Ex: (did not happen, just what it feels like) oh look, there's a bad guy, let's take this gun out of my pocket and shoot him; oh look, he's still alive, let's interrogate him; oh look, he's actually a part of a huge plot in the background, what a surprise. It's as if the main character has a million trump... more>> cards in her back pocket. This style is forcing me to think that the main character just has a lightsaber in her bionic leg, because that's how outrageous these events have gone. Of course, what kind of novel would this be without a sharp tongue. And that's just what the main character has, it's so sharp that every other character has their IQ lowered by 70. This style reminds me of a Fairly Odd Parents episode; in that episode, Timmy wishes that he could be the smartest person in the world. However, what happened was not that he became smarter, instead, everyone else became dumb as shit. (Back to the story) The dialogue, story, and characters does not make the reader think, "Wow, that's pretty smart of them." Instead, the reader thinks, "These people are f*cking ret*rded." The author also uses brute force in order to move the story along. Ex:
Spoiler

When Yang Yi or whatever forced the main character to become her concubine by actually trying to manhandle her.

There is no reason behind any action these characters take. It's just DO IT, MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE. I would be surprised if anyone actually made it past chapter 15. <<less

I have no idea why this has such a high rating. At first glance, yes, the female protagonists attitude is refreshing because she literally does not give a crap about other people's thoughts and uses a more brute force approach. However, as the story progresses, HUGE plot holes keep reappearing and both the FL and ML s*upidity becomes increasingly apparent

Both the ML and FL marital arts are suppose to be "top notch", especially the ML, but for some reason our FL keeps getting PUSHED off a cliff. This happened twice... more>> and she needed saving both times. Makes no sense especially since the people who pushed her either a) is a weakling that doesn't know martial arts or b) their martial arts sucks. But somehow she ends up nearly killed both times. The ML even offered her guards, but shes like no thank you.

Okay move on to the ML whose power is so~ great, he literally can use internal force to crush something into dust. Yet, he could not detect another of those white lotus villains (who is a weak lady that knows no martial arts) hiding behind the trees not more than ten feet away from them. There goes LOGIC.

The MOST annoying thing however, is how our FL keeps allowing villains to escape, such as Qing Yuyuan who repeatedly harms her. FL logic is "oh death is too easy I should just cut her on her non vital points and let her bleed to death."

Of course, not only does Yuyuan NOT die, she somehow miraculously survives and tries to kill the FL AGAIN. Okay, you would think that the FL would be smart this time, but NO she does the same thing. "Let me leave her alive and just blow the place around her up, she will definitely die." WRONG, of course Yuyuan is saved just in time.

At this point even the ML question why didn't you just kill her directly. This repeatedly happens three times with Yuyuan alone. BTW she repeatedly uses this let me beat the crap out of my enemy but don't kill them approach. So they always reappear and give her trouble again.

At this point I'm actually rooting for Yuyuan to successfully kill the FL because she is just that s*upid. <<less

While I found the story interesting at the start, at chapter 95 I lost pretty much all interest.

Spoiler

For all that she is so cunning and intelligent, she doesn't really seem to make any moves towards her enemies. Every time they pull something, she counters them. If they do something particularly displeasing, like trying to kill her, she reacts immediately (you could almost call it impulsively, since she then proceeds to try and kill them. Then they suffer. But ultimately get saved in the end, and then she'll leave them alone without doing anything afterwards).

In fact, almost none of them dissapear. Especially that Prince, Yiyeng (?). I was already tired of him after the first few chapters, but even 95 chapters later the marriage is still not broken off. While I certainly think that a character that continuously has to defeat new enemies that pop up one after another is also bad, having every enemy remain also isn't a very good option. At this rate, her enemies just keep growing and collude with each other to bring her down.

Not to mention that her own personality apparently grows inconsistent as well according to the other reviewer.

Well, as I said before. I specifically stopped reading because of what happened around chapter 95. Simply because once again, she managed to corner that annoying Princess but let her go. Instead of just finishing the job, she takes her time to stab her in the limbs repeatedly, while she's in a b**by-trapped dungeon/cave. You'd think she learned her lesson not to play around with her after she escaped the first time.

This also isn't the only time she plays around, like with her Aunt, or grandmother, idk. She leaves them behind while they're beaten up to die, but of course her uncle returns and calls for a doctor (despite her attempts at blockading the entire house?).

I have mixed feelings about this that could be summed up by saying it's a mediocre story.

Pros:

    • The FL transmigrates but unusually she is a direct descendant of the family she transmigrates into. It's a pretty cool bit of reasoning and explains a lot without the need to give her some kind of secret spy/super doctor/military goddess background (as long as you buy into the idea that coming from a historically important, rich family in modern-day China means you have to go through intense training. But honestly - that's more believable than a lot of other set-ups in Chinese webnovels...) I also like the idea that at the same time she transmigrates into ancient China, perhaps the original spirit of the body transmigrated into the present (I know, I know, her body was destroyed or whatever, but it's cool to think of)
    • Verbally she gives back what she gets, and doesn't stand on the whole "can't talk back to your elders" - because let's face it, how many elders in these stories actually merit respect? At the same time, she doesn't go full Pampered Fei Brimming with Cuteness and act like a rampaging 21st century idiot in ancient China.
    • FL is fully capable of facing off against most of what her enemies throw at her. Only occasionally does she truly need the ML's help, but most of the time she operates on an "thank you for saving me the trouble" basis. is often not given the chance to not rely on the ML and... seems to be getting weaker as times go on.
    • FL's brother is a ditz but truly likeable. He has the FL's back at all times, if only in spirit.
    • This could be a negative as well, but the evil villains are actually quite fun to hate. Mostly they're s*upid but occasionally they have a grain of logic in their plans. They never die either but...
    • Ye Yichen's parents are actually pretty nice people.
Cons:

    • In her former life she practiced martial arts - in the story she constantly says she needs to practice and she doesn't have any time. Despite this she can still move and fight fine. The body she inhabits was previously ill and I'm betting had no strength so how she does this is a mystery. (Think of the training montage in A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselor for comparison...)
    • Ancient China but with fantasy elements thrown in with no explanation.
    • Cold-heartedness - as others have mentions, her morals are here, there, and everywhere. Save a person for no reason? Check. Watch as an eight year old child gets mu*dered by the main wife of your uncle? Check. And she has such a blase attitude to it. I think we can all agree it's fun to watch a show where people get what they deserve, but it's something else entirely to watch a crazed woman mu*der people in front of you and do nothing, however much you might hate them. It only serves to make the FL unlikable.
    • ML likes the FL because of childhood interactions, but the person in the FL's body is no longer the same. He professes to love her but doesn't even notice that her spirit has changed?
    • Plot. The hand of the author is evident in all of the characters' actions.
Added:

  • s*upid characters. Just, truly s*upid characters. The villains are s*upid, the MCs are sometimes... boarding on s*upid, and I've stopped reading at chapter 249 because we're introduced to a brainless side character who is truly moronic, and I can only assume the story is going to get worse because how else could an author create a character like that?

This story is so goddamn s*upid. The FL, who's body has been weak and cold since young due to disease, suddenly holds such great strength when the FL transmigrates into it. Even though the FL is strong even without internal force and whatnot, why has she never thought of asking someone to teach her it so she can properly arm herself against the creepy ex-fiancee? Doesn't make any goddamn sense. The ex-fiancee's come close to killing the FL many times and the FL has had countless opportunities to kill that c*ckroach, but she doesn't f*cking finish her. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT MORE THAN ONCE? Also, the ML is lowkey creepy. Whenever FL's in danger. He's always "passing by" and what accompanies him is his f*cken thick bamboo scent. Bit*h GO LEARN SOME INTERNAL FORCE so you can protect yourself.

Warning: more of a rant than a review.

I really wanted to like this story. I REALLY did. Turns out I REALLY couldn't. The only reason why I didn't rate it 1 star, though, was because I really enjoyed the first hundred or so chapters.

Unfortunately, MC's character is very contradictory. At first, it seems like she wouldn't mind watching the world burn and I think I kinda liked that. It was a refreshing change of pace. But then she often and randomly does these acts of "good" or blunders uncharacteristically.... more>> These instances are merely Author-san's excuse to introduce or promote more love interests. That's the only reason why. It seriously downgraded my initial impressions on the novel.

Moreover, there's two types of main characters that I hate the most...

    1. Mary Sue/Gary Stu
    2. Damsel-in-Distress/White-Knight-Syndrome
... and MC falls under the 2nd category. Even worse, she's the type of Damsel-in-Distress that is supposed to be an independent and strong character but inevitably has to be caught up in something she "can't handle" on her own so her White Knights could swoop in to save her. That's not to say that she doesn't have her moments of brilliance and feats of strength, but those feats are truly far and few in between.

As for the plot, I truly wasn't expecting anything realistic (it's fiction after all). However, even in fiction, there's a limit to how much people can hate and scheme and lose their mind over the MC. There's no middle ground with the MC's relationships; they either REALLY love her or REALLY hate her. Whenever they (as in the characters that hate the MC) are in trouble, they really grasp at the nonexistent straws to pit the blame on her. It's honestly exhausting to read because it happens. All. The. Freaking. Time.

Her current relationship with ML (well, I'm pretty sure he is the ML seeing how much Author-san focuses on him) is toxic. There isn't a balance between them, and it shows. The development of their relationship is sketchy, and it seems like MC's life or death is dependent on if he's in the mood (or area) to save her or not.

TL;DR: I'm super disappointed that such a good start to a novel was quickly degraded by how shallow and contradictory the MC's actions were. The only praise I have for this novel was that Author-san successfully got me to hate every character (MC, ML, canon fodders, etc.) in this story, excluding the pure-hearted Murong Ye and adorbs Baibai. <<less

She (MC) tried to kill someone by letting them have thair own death, WTF? like beat them half death and lets them be... yeah and so you all could guess it - their make out alive - that really not make ANY sense! This starts off as a stereotypical transmigration into a weak noble lady getting her engagement messed up. In this case, she's demoted from main wife to concubine.

It reminds me of Chu Wang Fei a bit in that Jing Wang is similar to Chen Wang. But that's about it, this guy is so persistent in getting the MC (not in a good way by chapter 11 at least) that you wonder... What the heck kind of eyesight does all the people there have to think he's a good guy! He's petty!... more>>

Thankfully, our MC acts as decisively as Princess Wei Yang (also a great story) instead of bidding her time, gaining revenge through the 'noble lady' way. Brother is a nice touch, we know she has support from at least one family member. Male MC has made a cameo I think, but since I can't read ahead, I'll assume he's a typical black belly guy based on synopsis.

Translation is ok, but the names get mixed up. Like, a lot. You can still figure out who is who by context but it's quite noticeable for me. <<less

It was a good story but I started to hate the male lead after a while. For example, her twin brother was going through some stuff and started crying so she hugged him to comfort him. Completely rational, 100% would do that for my own sibling. But then the male lead comes in and snatches her away from him and says "there shouldn't be any physical contact between you and other males." That is a direct quote, I did not embellish that at all. There was other stuff too before... more>> that but that was the moment I decided to drop it cause the male lead kept pissing me off. <<less
