Skyfire Avenue

Description

Skyfire Avenue is a street that is 2048 meters long. There are 168 stores here, and each of the store owners is an extremely powerful adept. The Avenue does not permit any vehicles or any robots to pass through it, much less mecha. Even the patrolling police must move about on foot. This is because this is a street for pedestrians, a lane for nobles, hidden away within this high technology world. Lan Jue, the greatest of the mercenaries, code-named ‘Zeus’, has secluded himself here in Skyfire Avenue after the death of his wife. The name of his shop is “Zeus’ Jewelry Store”, and here in Skyfire Avenue, he has been given the title, Jewel Master.

Salutations my Loves,
I am so disappointed with this one, so very disappointed....! *sigh*

I have to admit, I was rather hesitant to reading this novel because of its genre-tags "Sci-fi+/Xianxia" (and the author). But I gave it a try, partially because of the overall good reviews. Well, I was right - this novel is pretty bad, sadly....

The Beginning

... more>> Side Note: The first 10 or so chapters are basically useless and do absolutely nothing for the overall story progression! His knowledge of wine is repeated several times throughout the course of the novel, so just skip those chapters!

We are thrown right into 'action'. There is no weak-to strong (at least in the beginning) plot progression or the usual 'revenge', unfair treatment, bad sect, yada yada troops. We learn in little bits about the world, the protagonist, the other main/side-characters, the powers that exist in the world and Lan Jue's background (which gets somewhat revealed in the middle of the story)

I have to say, I really enjoyed it. It was a novelty! But things went downhill fast...

The Problems

There are so many problems. Where to start?
The story moves unbearably slow, like really slow. I am not talking about an attack that needs several chapters of elaborating or a fight that fills an entire arc (well, rejoice! We also have these in later chapters), I am talking about utterly and completely useless chapters. Something I really don't understand in books in general are fillers! I at least, god forbid, believe that an author has an overall idea, knowing at least to some extent, in which direction the story should develop. Here - Filling the story with useless chapters, that do nothing for the story, is just s*upid. TJSS presumably thought doing so would create a more vibrant and immersive three-dimensional world, which regrettably failed phenomenally.
But that's not even my biggest complaint, my biggest complaint is the logic, or the lack of.

You have to stick to your rules. If a world was build with certain rules in place, you can't just break them to accumulate tension, just to introduce new rules.
TJSS had absolutely no idea in which direction the story should progress, leading to not just worthless chapters but also several inconsistencies.

In the earlier chapters, we are told that the overall life expectancy is something like 150 years in the New Era, the present, the period in which the story is taking place. Later on we're told that Paragons can live longer than that. Additionally another 200 hundred years added to your life once reaching Paragon status (I suppose, not very well explained). Now the question I'm asking myself - humanity left Earth in 2235 of the "Old Era", hundred years have passed since then meaning we're in year 2335 something. (I am already being generous here otherwise the whole book would make no sense) In the 300-sth chapters we're introduced to a woman who for some ridiculous reasons is a Paragon in disguise. The problem now, she was alive during the 1900s, making her 400 years old. My question now, how is that possible? It's said several times throughout the book - I am not even kidding, it's done like 30 times in-between chapters 300 - 600, that time is unforgiving and one cannot cheat death. So, how was she able to enhance her life expectancy to such staggering heights?
Spoiler

Same with the Clairvoyant, the oracle - as I'd like to call him. The whole book is basically build on his prophecy. Yet again the question, he has lived during 2235 - helping humanity with space migration. Shouldn't the same rules also apply to him, I mean the woman can for some odd reason live for 400 years, why can't he as well? And if he had lived for even longer than that, which the story hinted at - how is that possible? You see, this makes no sense.

[collapse]

Another objection I have is that nothing is really explained. Taking into consideration that humanity as a whole has migrated, how come that everyone speaks the same language? Madarin of course, because logic. Even taking into consideration that the "New Era" has a different time reckoning, this would still make no sense. It took 800 years to go from Anglo-Norman (one of the many spoken dialects in 12th Century Britain) to the English we now know, just to name an example. What I want to say is that it takes enormous amounts of time for languages to develop and change. Since TJSS wrote a story that had incorporated the history of Earth, unique events even, I would have expected more. Honestly, less bullsh*t about wine and the 'noble' life in Europe and more useful exposition!

But the biggest immersion breaking, how the F is it possible that paragons have existed before the New Era!? It's clearly stated that because of the universe's radiation, being on new planets and stuff, things have changed, creating these unique powers. It was mentioned that Earth was destroyed by humans. My question now, why even move from earth if you can shoot water from your palm, burn waste without hazardous greenhouse gases yada yada?! They could have made Earth a worthwhile place to live with those powers, right? Thus no need to migrate to new star systems! Still this 'somehow' leads to one really s*upid and half-assed conflict (the great finale). In retrospect, this book is just utterly s*upid. To me it feels like TJSS thought that his readers are too s*upid to care! Coupled with his meager writing skills, it was prone to failure...

Spoiler

Another problem. So, Lan Jue's father (but not really since he's his master, adopted boy and stuff) is the most powerful paragon out there! That fact doesn't change, he ascends to heaven's ruler or immortal emperor, or some bullsh*t like that. (Which makes him the most powerful being ever) I don't know... If I was some kind of Oracle, I wouldn't dote all my hopes on some 27-ish something dude, who is fairly weak in comparison to other cultivators, heck, the entire universe, but maybe - on the most powerful being on humanity's side! Am I unreasonable here?!

[collapse]

And I am not even talking about the poorly done Mechas. They became useless somewhere in-between and important again?! WTF. Also, it's first claimed that your 'Disciple' has nothing to do with how well you can or cannot operate your Mecha, later this is contradicted by people with weaker/stronger 'Discples' being more/less competent with their mechas respectively?! Why, even bother setting up certain examples/rules if not sticking to them???

Spoiler

This Clairvoyant, is one strange fellow. Has lived for several hundred years, kills one innocent girl in the process to let her be replaced by her sister, who else? Right? Why not just tell the protagonist from the very beginning? What was the use, by not telling him that everything happens in accordance with his master plan? There was literally none? Why not outright tell him? Apart from that, what was the reason for "her guidence"? Guiding the MC where? The female heroine was in a coma for about 200 or so chapters? Great guidance on her end!

[collapse]

But the biggest let down was the finale, the reveal of all those shitty mysteries and unanswered questions... I'm still feeling played...!

The Characters

Well, the only thing that was done decently about this debacle. The side-characters are mildly entertaining. Sadly the two boys, who Lan Jue took in as 'disciples' are way more interesting than the protagonist himself. There is no character development to speak of. Lan Jue was already an established character when the story started. Sure, he had a life crisis going on but still, almost everything else about him was already set in stone. Leading to one simple question, how and when did his character develop? He's 27 years old, three years before the start of the book "the calamity" took place? Before that he was being trained by his master and doing some mercenary work in-between, plus a girlfriend (I guess) and going to college before that. So when did his character develop, to someone so well versed and outspoken?
Spoiler

Apart from him raping someone, WTF - there is absolutely no excuse for that. Who in their right mind r*pes someone that is poisoned, wtf?! Even if she's your wife?? This 'conflict' was so s*upid! See, these kind of ludicrous 'events' lead to a story that was already build on extremely shaky grounds! What's that for bullsh*t reasoning going on his end????

[collapse]
The Main heroine is so unbearably unreasonable, even later when everything is revealed.
Spoiler

Who poisons herself before attending her own (staged) wedding knowingly? WTF is wrong with her. Additionally, her 'Disciple' was the biggest bullsh*t I've read in a long time! What kind of awesome cheat ability is this please? If she can bring the almost dead back to life why didn't she use it on someone more powerful, like - I don't know - the Clairvoyant?

[collapse]

Ah, I almost forgot! Everyone is beautiful! There are no ugly people, ever! Especially the girls are heaven defying beauties. And I ensure you, you won't forget how beautiful the main heroine is. It's mentioned again and again and again.

Another nice extra and the only good redeeming feature about this book were its funny moments! Sadly, they couldn't carry a garbage story!
Antagonists are at least more fleshed out. Well, you have to keep in mind that there were probably only 4 'real' antagonist (which is highly debatable already) throughout the story. So, kudos author.

The Romance

Makes no sense.
Spoiler

What's up with Chinese authors believing that women would magically fall in love with their rapist?! WTF is that bullshit? Please tell me that this is not some household believe going around! Spoiler, read at your own risk. If I firmly believe that my sister was killed by the person I need to watch over, I would definitely not blush when he looks my way or touches me and sure as hell not fall in love with him in effing six months? Yet again, extremely poor writing!

[collapse]

Overall

Such disappointment. Not just violating rules that were set up but also breaking immersion on several occasions. Introducing aspects to later only drop them. Why even bother. TJSS should have left those verbose useless chapters/explanations out that do nothing for the story continuation. I honestly expected more from someone who has written, what? 5 books (when this was being published) ?
Do yourself a favour and don't read it! Or torture yourself and read it, IMO.

This is the kind of novel that you can read for hours upon hours and feel that not a few minutes have passed. It achieves this not through the cliche xianxia way of making the audience anticipate a power-up in cultivation and then beating a hated enemy, but through a deep story with multiple different arcs/events that build it up.

For the romance part, the author slyly puts in hints in the interactions that will make you think of a bunch of different scenarios. When the story is revealed, you can't... more>> help but think back to the interactions and admire TJSS's superb planning.

All in all, this is one of my favorite novels. I think reading about the luxuries is pretty relaxing and resets the pace. I only wish there were more novels like this where the MC is strong from the beginning and have a genuine story rather than making half the story dedicated to cultivation. <<less

Now this is interesting. A futuristic space mecha/super power novel by TJSS? You know that it is going to be awesome. I read about seven of the different books of TJSS and know a little about the rest. The result? SA is my favorite work by him. First off, the characteristic writing style of TJSS = humor and detail is a huge plus to this story. And, it is a fresh setting. The MC is called Zeus. ZEUS GODDAMIT!! He is OP and he is OP from the start. Only... more>> that there are others who are even more OP. But, it means that you don't have to go through much leveling up.

The side characters have got a huge role to play and their characters are master strokes coming from the author. THE ROMANCE!!! One of THE best romance in all of Chinese novels that I have read. And it till isn't confirmed romance (till 241). Any way, you just know that they are going to end up together. Add to it the slight bit of mystery/unknown history and you got yourself a series that you won't regret picking up. I myself caught on late to it but I read the 241 available chaps (at the time of this review) within 3 days. Only thing is that sometime I feel like it would be nice if it had a prequel or something, covering the growth of the monarchs and also the love story between zeus and hera. Could be that it will be covered later in the series. Also, it has only 900+ chapters. I mean, REGULAR size chapters. That is a big plus. Just go for it. (You might find the action sequences a bit drawn out but that is probably because there are only a few sequences till 241).

EDIT: Currently on Chapter 455, and my rating stands. Also, I forgot to mention last time.. the antagonists in this are not no-brainers. First off, there are very few. And the ones that are there are just insanely well written. There is an arc where the MC becomes a teacher.. and you will read the entire arc in a single day. I pretty much guarantee. Overall, it holds to its potential. This is Mango approved!!

EDIT: Currently at c529. And damn..I want to give it 6/5. We are starting to see the first hints of a possible solution t the mystery. However, we still don't know who it is. We don't know how it is. All we know is...A suspect is at large. And that is fantastic!! I am seriously disappointed at how the fan following for SA is. We need more support for this work! And as I stated earlier... Romance is big plus for this series.

Edit: I have now read the entire series. First off, it is one of the most unique CN out there. TJSS gets full marks for concept and plot progression. Character development is also good. The focus is there on cultivation when it is needed to be, tho it is more often than not not on cultivation.

However, this is a rushed job. No, not as per the chapter number wise. More on the writing part, he should have thought more if he was forgetting a very important character somewhere later in the series. The pace of story is good. Not too quick, but it catches up. But towards the end, writing does get a bit shoddy.

THE ENDING IS NOT RUSHED. A major plus for this. This also has probably the best case of betrayal that I have ever read, so far in CN cultivation novels.

Also, most of the characters get some kind of closure. The villains are quite OP, and they have solid 3D reasons for their villainy.

However, there is quite thick plot armor and it is even acknowledged.

All in all, very close to 5. A must read with far too small a fan base. I consider this to be a TJSS masterpiece.

This novel is a true masterpiece and, like most, start off slowly. Don't give up after the first couple of chapters, they're a very important introduction of the MC's morale and standing.

In this novel, instead of the author saying MC is awesome, refined, etc, he shows why. He shows you the MC through his actions and does TJSS know how to do that.

This is my favorite work from him, and I definitely recommend you read it no matter what

I made it up to chapter 50 which is an achievement considering the extremely slow pace and utter unlikablity of nearly every character in this novel.

I found the MC to be an utter snob and was not able to generate a single connection with him. All of the main characters looked down upon everyone else for failing to spend endless hours studying the "art" of wines. If I could give this novel less a single star I would. The endless tedium and nose in the sky MC make this novel... more>> unreadable. <<less

Get past the first few chapters about Lan Jue’s wine tasting and you will be treated to a very special story. Rich character profiles along with a solid storyline. Quality writing overall where fights don’t come down to who yells louder. Fights never gets old as the author have found a way to make each and every fight much more vivid and captivating then the last.

It’s a shame for those who stopped reading the series because of the slow start. Let me address some of the criticism I see. This... more>> isn’t a weak to strong MC. Think more Cowboy Bebop where the reader is thrown right in the middle of the story and we slowly find out more about the MC’s past as the story progress. This isn’t a story where the MC is pitted against increasingly more powerful adversary. I don’t see this as a flaw as the author can focus more on the story and not on traditional power crawl. Definitely recommend this story. However, I will admit that the highs are high and the lows are low. The interesting parts of the story will have you completely engrossed, but the author does digress from the main story often enough and these almost slice of life stretches could be quite dull. <<less

Completely underrated.

The current rating of 4.1 really doesn't reflect what this novel deserves. I imagine most (not all) of the 1-3 star ratings came from people who read the beginning chapters when there weren't at least 50 already translated or people with little patience. Try reading at least up to chapter 50 before you decide to drop it.

I originally tried this novel because it’s by TJSS, author of Douluo Dalu, hoping to find a time filler as I wait for my faves. I quit reading it quite early thinking, huh, what the hell is this. So... quite a bit of time later, as I circumvent all the popular and potentially interesting novels, I finally decided to revisit Skyfire Avenue. Why? I realized that this is TJSS latest novel and if you have attempted to find fillers, you probably have read/try his other works seeing the improvements-evolution that... more>> the author has made over the years. Well.. Thank GOD I did as SA definitely delivers. The author have borrowed the best elements from his earlier works resulting in this glorious read. You see a little bit of Child of Light (lightheartedness), Bing Huo Mo Chu (topics diversity), Heavenly Jewel Change (comedy), and Douluo Dalu (world/character building). This novel brings it all together. Foreal, read it, follow it, and thank me later. <<less

After sticking around for a while after my interest waned, I've dropped this a bit past chapter 300. It's not as if I'm throwing away a disgusting mess and saying "good riddance", but sticking around wasn't paying off for me. I might come back some day if it all gets wrapped up and proofread some more, but I think I'd really have to be at the bottom of my barrel of things to read.

I think this is a pretty clever webnovel, and there have been parts where I felt really... more>> enthusiastic about what I was reading. But most of the time that was unfortunately not the case. Its characters are its greatest strength -- they're likable, distinct, and decently developed, and far smarter than the characters in anything else I would rate 3 stars -- but the series can also get annoyingly self-indulgent. If any tasteless Saudi princes (or Donald Trump) are out there and considering reading this, they may love the gaudy displays of wealth in a world that we're apparently told still has poverty and slums in it. Others will probably find that it tests their patience. It'd be one thing if it were some idealized Star Trek setting where people can make food out of thin air and all basic needs are met, but to present a futuristic world stratified by social classes and to have our hero Lan Jue give so little of a sh*t -- for his lifestyle to be in contempt of the poor -- is galling.

Some of the worst and most ostentatious examples of this do feel like scathing irony by themselves, but when you see how it's baked into our amazing hero's personality, you instead get the sense that these massive symbols of waste are just the author's best attempts to depict a predilection for "the finer things"; our hero is a perfect suave James Bond character, he must be classy. What is classy? Apparently, literally just money. Poor people only really seem to figure into the story as simple devices to demonstrate the values of rich characters. I could try to ignore it, but Lan Jue even goes on a long revisionist "noblesse oblige" rant at one point, conflating wealth with moral integrity, and using the sinking of the Titanic to justify the existence of a ruling class. Don't worry about the part where 97% of women in first-class survived, but only 46% of women in third-class did. Lan Jue doesn't. Why the hell is all this in a story about magic mecha pilots? Later in the story, he does begin acting more in the interest of other people, which I think is a blessing, but it isn't as if he looks back at his tastelessness and says, "What have I been doing?" It just feels disjointed. Random bits about wine-tasting never go away; I just grew attached enough to other story elements that I became a little more willing to put up with it. For a while.

I certainly found a few story hooks to keep me interested by chapter 20 or so, like the action of the shuttle robbery or the wedding, and the unique dilemma that Lan Jue walked into with Zhou Qianlin. The author writes young love well in addition to just being able to set up a good school arc where the hero is deliciously twinking people on the school combat simulator network; I'd forgotten how much I used to love those Gundam tropes where people are shocked by someone pulling off some insanely high-coordination mecha-piloting move.

However, it also takes no time at all to be thrown into an arc where a bunch of side-characters fight a group of villains from the "Seven Archangels", which feels like a low-tier Shounen Jump manga series on the verge of cancellation. It was too early in a series to be feeling bored out of my mind, but others said the series only got better, so I read on. But fights remained a slog to read through. I think in part this is because you come in from the middle of Lan Jue's story, and the specific magical battle skills used by him and his harem squad are just noise to the readers, rather than stories in themselves.

The gundam-esque mecha combat is often far better than the magical discipline-cultivation fights, because they really ham it up with people going through all the cliches of "How can he pull off a Damiano Defense? That requires a skill rating ten times above pro level!" Here in the real world, it's said that pro Starcraft players will do 150 actions per minute. Lan Jue's mecha combat skill is often pointed out through his ability to do 90 actions per SECOND. It's extremely s*upid, and I was totally into that brand of s*upid. But when the author fully commits to a battle arc, like the public DreamNet god-battles, I found that even this better half of combat got tiresome.

I only continued for so long because I truly was enjoying those school-life and romantic segments, in addition to the scenes with Lan Jue's brothers. There's a TON of great characters, like the Tang siblings, Jin Tao, the school faculty... and this is not a series where characters continually appear just to be killed to feed someone else's growth. What may be a counterpoint is that it does do a pretty shameless harem thing, where scores of attractive women are obsessed with Lan Jue. More annoying to some readers may be that he doesn't actually lay his hands on any of these women. Some people who hate a dickless-harem setup might appreciate that it's because he's hung up on his dead wife, rather than because he's dense or nervous around the opposite s*x. Perhaps the reasons won't matter. I could go either way on harem stuff: having a one-true-soulmate character is obviously bad news for it, but when a hero has officially broken things off with their one true love (tempestuously and temporarily), that tends to be an opportunity to briefly play the field... to the thrill of the audience.

The series has been translated into readable English, with little trouble getting the meanings across, but it desperately needs a proofreading pass. Some characters see their names spelled very inconsistently, and "it's" is used in place of "its" roughly a million times per chapter. I hoped the translator would get past this sort of thing or find some help, and I appreciate the incredible labor that goes into translating something I get tired just reading, but after 300 chapters, the translator probably should have learned the difference between "in to" and "into". In this sense, I actually think it gets more annoying over time. <<less

I'll start with the conclusion: Read it if you like fancy special effects and want to read about uncommon gourmet feasts. Don't read it if constant minor inconsistencies and pseudoscience bother you.

Good: This book has cool action, fun character interaction, and lots of quality, detailed descriptions of various types of food and wine. The main character and supporting cast are likeable.

Bad: The unrealism extends beyond superpowers and sci-fi elements: The beautiful women all are attracted to the main character (well, okay, he's just that manly and cool; maybe I'd be... more>> attracted too), but the main character is... extremely unmanly when it comes to women. For a non-virg*n guy to get jumpy at the slightest s*xual tension with a woman he's been close to for years is strange to a point where it can't be considered "faithfulness to his dead wife", especially when it happens repeatedly. If it was just that, you could say he was afraid bad things would happen to them if he got close to them, but he keeps emphasizing that he'll keep them close to protect them. So it gets weirder and weirder as the story progresses and you meet new "female acquaintances" of his.

... And for me, it just bothers me that someone with the title and abilities of "Zeus" is being faithful to his wife "Hera". There are enough inconsistencies in the mythological references (abilities and titles changing from one section to another, various relationships like the ones between angels being incorrect) that it hurts my enjoyment. And while I liked the meals, anyone who doesn't care about fine wine or food might find that part to be overly detailed. Oh, and the science part is really... tenuous. For the amount of explaining, it's very unrealistic. <<less

I dont understand why this novel only get 3.9/5 rating atm.

When I saw this in WW, try to reading the synopsis, I can’t find my self to read it because of ‘mecha’ tag. After few more weeks and also because I run out of new novel chaps, finally bracing myself to read SA. The result, I completely like this novel. Yeah the start will boring some of you, especially with the ‘wine’ stuff. Even I don’t know anything about wine and other drink stuff, but I just treat it as... more>> the characters building/world building.

SA is a fresh wuxia story thanks to it’s ‘mecha’ tag. I like the romance, the MC also one of my favorite (not so OP), ahh.. I almost forget, the author also bring a little bit of greek mythology which make it more interesting.

I recommend u to try this novel, u’ll like it.

(SA currently in my top 3 list. Other interesting novel: duoluo dalu, desolation era, BTTH, HJC, GOS, GDK, ISSTH) <<less

Make sure you actually read it before making any statements.

Jeez! So hateful. I saw a damn review of a person who only read chapter 1 and he dares to conclude a single chapter is worth the whole novel? Meh. It's his loss, not knowing the greatness of a modern, futuristic story set up where Mechs are not everything, there is power gems, ranks, and unique powers called Discipline. When it comes to plot, actually it's my first reading about a widowed young man. He's badass though, powerful, influential and... more>> handsome. Meh, the rest of this story's greatness, just discover it yourself. <<less

A mediocre story. I read everything on Wuxia by default, that's how I got into this. Too much BS that mars what could be a somewhat interesting story. Not much really happens (read up to chap 264). The conflicts lack any tension. The author is known for plot, but the plot is definitely weak. The dialogue is garbage a lot of the time... I don't know what kind of audience it's aimed at. Skim read it.

As others have stated before, the story takes a slower approach and there is a good amount of content about high class luxury foods/drinks and etiquette. Really recommend to read this novel, it has it’s moments of high tension, comedic moments, and the romance that just drives all the readers crazy. Heck you could probably even take what you learn about the foods, drinks, and etiquette and use it in your daily life. 6 out of 5

Me like many others first tried reading this when it just started being translated and got turned away by how different and slow it was in the beginning. But don’t let the beginning mislead you into thinking that this novel is anything but great. It has the best world building that I have read and a fantastic attention to detail that really immerses you into the story. The fighting scenes are fantastically written as well, some of the best TJSS has to offer.

For the people who enjoy the crazy fast... more>> pace of most Xianxia where the only focus is the fighting and cultivation, then this probably isn't for you. The chapters that some people say are useless and boring are the real meat of the story. These chapters are what create such a fantastic dynamic between all the characters. Everyone has a story and TJSS does a great job of building up side characters and not throwing them away. He doesn't just say what motivates people and expects you to fill in the rest he actually shows you and he shows you in increasingly interesting and entertaining ways.

I feel bad for not giving this novel a better shot in the beginning because right now it is with out a doubt at the very top of my list. <<less

It started off boring (got past the 50 chapters of Wine/Food nonsense like recommended), got somewhat interesting, and then went back to useless filler, Wine/Gourmet being most consistent. I understand Wine/Gourmet is just a replacement for Harem to get in the necessary word count, but unfortunately, it also has Harem which makes this novel 2x worse with the useless filler nonsense.

Plot is predictable and The MC knows he must get stronger, but what does he do? Spends most of his time throwing wine/gourmet parties. He literally doesn't put any effort... more>> into personal strength, at least not so far. Everyone around him is training and breaking through, literally. Even the girl he's guarding was basically a mortal and now she's the same strength as him (even stronger considering her own powers), I understand there are geniuses, but damn, MC puts zero effort into training. His only improvements so far were from lame plot armor. Miracle events where he gets a power up on the verge of death.

Would have gave 1 star, but it kept me reading for a few days :P Mostly because the Romance until that turned to garbage xD, girl got op out of no where and the MC feels mediocre compared to everyone else in this Novel. I mean come on, puts zero effort into personally improving himself, and only improves from miracles. He rather lounge around and drink/eat knowing he's facing imminent danger of alien invaders wiping out the human species. :P <<less

Skyfire Avenue!!!! Aaahhh!!!! Fangirling screams here. Haha. Seriously though, I love this novel. I never thought I would read a novel with a mecha tag (because I don't like too futurisque type of novels) but with how SA is written, I enjoyed it instead. I'm so hyped for this. All I wish is that our esteemed translators would continue to do this til the end. I give you my support. Thumbs up!

I really enjoyed this novel way more than any other xianxias or wuxias because the author doesn't just throw villain after villain at the MC when oh all the sudden plot armor or level up in power for no reason.... This novel is slow pace but is not a boring slow paced story, also even though I don't ever understand the wine or food stuff I find it interesting to read as a change of pace from fighting also, my fav part so far in this novel is his explanation... more>> of what a noble is, idk about you guys but it gets my blood rushing! <<less

This novel goes from good to outright s*upid. So many unnecessary retcons. Pointless milking from chapter 336 onwards when the MC gets a weird seal placed on him which restricts his cultivation unless he is in contact with his new girlfriend. His strength does not increase at all until some six hundred chapters, which leads to him facing the same level of enemies with nothing new to see for those many chapters. Not to mention that the author keeps on justifying his choice of making the MC loose his cultivation... more>> to SOLIDIFY and PURIFY his foundation more so as to have more potential in the future and to make him reach paragon realm faster, but MC is actually almost the last one to ascend, telling us everything about the so called increase in potential. Lol. Even guys who were outright fodder in front of him ascend earlier. Really showing how much the author wanted to stretch things out coz he had no idea of what he was going to do once MC ascended.

And the thing most hateful about this MC is that he always just keeps blabbering about the righteous path but he wins a tournament by cheating towards the end, and is not even conscious about it. His weird contract/seal gives him the ability to teleport each other to themselves when they wish for it and even to merge with his new girlfriend when they kiss. Doing so makes MC the most powerful dude under the paragon realm. He uses this cheat in a competition that is supposed to be one on one fight tournament to win when he is on the verge of losing. Then the author blabbers on about how the MC won using his own strength. This whole incident makes the MC a hypocritical cheater. Something that the MC is NOT supposed to be as per his character. Really poor character portrayal. Smh <<less
