If you meet a fortune dolphin, your unrequited love will start to move…this is a rumor that is always talked about when people talk about love.

When I, Shirahama Natsume, was laughing at it, a girl named Umika with a dolphin hair ornament appeared in front of my eyes.

Just when I was thinking that …… I couldn’t believe that I was going to mix up hair ornaments and rumor,

“I thought if I stayed here, I would be able to meet you, Natsume-kun.”

But then, I met my first love again, Hirose Haru, who had moved to Tokyo for college!?

Just like in the old days, we played together, she helped me with my studies—It was the time when my longtime unrequited love was rewarded.

“Sometimes, you look like Seitarou-senpai”.

But it wasn’t just my unrequited love that started to move.

Haru-senpai’s unrequited love for my deceased brother also started to move.

Maybe you'd like a change of pace from the classic romance progression where everyone is happy by the end (aside from the losing heroine). In that case, this novel changes the formula a small amount by making sure everyone is miserable!

It all starts in a coastal town during summer, where the protagonist tries to prevent his beloved senior from joining her own unrequited love beyond the grave. Pressured by the circumstances, he must make a choice: break out of the status quo and pursue his first love, or lose it... more>> forever. Throughout the three volumes this series is composed of, we see that this unreciprocated love has already spread further than meets the eye. They may be spending their days laughing, but inside, they are yearning for a little more than just amity from their partner.

The story features a one heroine per novel structure, with an overarching plot as well as a sense of progression that is satisfying to read through. In simple terms, we witness the protagonist's growth through his third year of highschool and can't help but feel giddy about how whether or not his love will ever be rewarded. I particularly liked the big plot twist, and recommend going in blind for more enjoyment. That said, in the last volume, it was a little annoying how the explanations were kept hidden until as late as possible.

For those interested in whether it is a happy, sad or bittersweet ending:

Small complaints about the ending (though nothing too severe) :

I think the author could have come up with something a little more satisfactory when explaining the "Eternal Summer". There isn't really any reason why the Dolphin girl had to separate both Natsume and Umika for ten years or erase his memories only for her to restore them afterwards. The only thing I could come up with is that she needed a harbinger, but in that case, she was just plain evil. The author tried to make her look better by the end when she supported their love, but she did just rob ten years off of Umika's life just because she put on a hair clip. Or, all of this happened due to the Dolphin girl's whims, which does feel pretty cheap.

Moreover, Umika giving up her love at the end really didn't make any sense. Sure, she wanted to support Natsume's love towards Haru, but that excuse was gone by the time she cleanly rejected him.

At any rate, this was quite the original novel. I appreciated the setting and the theme, and while I felt my heart being gouged out at times, it was a pleasant kind of pain. <<less
