This novel is brilliantly original in its premise, and the translation quality is top-notch. So much comedy in a real.. Ish world you can relate to, is just what the doctor ordered. It'll definitely become one of top 50 or maybe even top 10 in novel rankings

The story is not perfect but then none are anymore. There are plot holes and armor like getting the skill he needs at the exact moment. Or non famous authors became famous but why should the famous ones disappear. I guess the A.I did it so to help him achieve his dream. But even with all that I cried while laughing so hard. The 900 word monologs was funny. The insults were well insulting and an amazing read. Thanks gravity and keep up the bonus chapters

I liked this series since the airplane act teaser. I don't know why but everything in this story is very interesting. I haven't seen any arc that was boring or bland. Oh and the joke was too hilarious. I can't stop laughing.

Gather up ZhangYeNo1Fans! We have to give our support to Teacher Legge and Teacher CKTalon for translating this. Of course to the Author too lol

The first comedy I really laughed at. It takes a few chapters to develop the MC, but so far it keeps getting better and better.

If you don't read it... I won't mind telling you, "I bought a watch last year!"

Haha... thanks for introducing us to Chinese cursing

Really interesting and unique. This is a story about a guy using copywrite content in his previous world to become famous in the changed world.. Though it is not all sun shines and rainbows as he does face obstacles but he has a more powerful weapon than just stolen content. That's right he also has a gambling cheat which for some reason always pays of so much so that they might as well ask him what he wants rather than going through the whole ordeal.

That part aside, it is nice... more>> and funny and will like to recommend it to all.

I am not sure if this review is complementing or insulting the novel, but I gotta say I am enjoying it and that the translation speed is awesome. Thanks everyone working on it

At first I was quite sceptical about how good the novel was but after reading it, I realized I was to presumptuous. "Don't judge a book by its cover" perfectly describes my situation. Or in this case it should be said "Don't judge a novel by its comments". Like others have said, it is up to you to decide whether or not you like it, after all everyone has their own specific preference or tastes. On that note, I would like to end off by saying, "I would definitely recommend... more>> this novel to other people who are bored of the same wuxia, xianxia, or xuanhuan novels, to give this novel a read and chance. And also many thanks to the translator and the team for translating this wonderful novel and letting me see the errors of my 'ways'. I hope to see more awesome chapters!? Thank u for translating!!" <<less

This novel is so good and interesting. Every chapter is so refreshing to read. Few months back I didn't try this novel since translator started from 200. I gave chapter 1 a try yesterday, I was hooked. Damn it, I want more and more.

OMG, this is hands down the best Chinese novel I have ever read! This is so different to the whole cultivation OP MC chinese bullsh*t that I hate, with excellent humour and laugh of loud comedy. This guy is a goddamn genius, making a genuinely likeable MC, with realistic motives and feelings. Definitely recommend it to anyone reading this, especially native Chinese readers, as I believe it has a lot of references that make more sense if you're native, however even if you aren't its still extremely good.

5 Stars!

For now this is a rare gem that mixes humor with high culture. Seriously, admit it. I can't be the only person to immediately go to youtube and listen to the Russian and Chinese versions of those poems.

Professor Charles Francis Xavier
This novel has caught my interest because of its unique use in using the clichés that is used by many other novels.

The story begins with a young man named Zhang Ye, who has always wanted to be famous and known all around the world but his looks and his mediocrity has always stopped him from reaching the top. He is then transferred to a, " parallel world of Earth, " but this world is quite lesser compared to Earth in the entertainment industry. So he begins on his journey to... more>> fame using the system and his knowledge to go further in this "game". But be aware the "plagiarism" is strong with this one. <<less

UPDATE: read please

I have never regretted rating something a five star in my entire time here. If I need to change it then I just go back and dock it a star or two and provide and explanation... But this is just sad.

By the time I hit chapter 400 I had somewhat lost faith. It was funny at first, then it just began getting cringe- inducing and irritating.

Spoiler
  1. The MC isn't only shameless, he's absolutely delusional, I don't think he understands that his achievements aren't his own and he was
    jobless loser before the system.
  2. He isn't just patriotic, he's downright racist, As other reviews have mentioned. He has some hatred towards all foreigners (who he plagiarizes at times) and he once spent a long streak of chapters criticizing Koreans (and occasionally Japanese and Americans). Plus, the one appearance of a black guy was... Ugh.
  3. This leads me to my next point. At one point he fought with a Korean popstar and his bodyguards because he didn't like his attitude. First of all, I do agree the the Korean guy was being cold and rude (it's not like a bunch of stars aren't like that), but second of all, who assaults a superstar then proceeds to act like the victim and a martyr? There are so many other ways he could have dealt with that situation. His reactions are so... Ugh.
  4. The novel was really funny at one point. And the idea was fun, especially the face slapping and scolding. But it got old. He is sometimes nothing more than a pe*vert who keeps making really shameless comments. Like the girl gives him a step and he somehow takes it a mile.
[collapse]

Honestly I would keep reading regardless if he didn't become so blatantly racist. Patriotism and nationalism is fine... Just do not discredit, humiliate, and criticize someone's country, race, and background for no reason... Then justify it.

Near 400 it isn't as bad until you get passed that and... No safe zone. How you gonna be an international superstar but insult everyone outside china?

OLD REVIEW:

When they posted a teaser a few weeks or months (I don't know) back, I laughed so hard. It's hillarious. I just hope that the MC isn't always such a troll...

Glad that they decided to keep translating it. I'll start reading again when it gets to where the teaser is... 217, right? <<less

Definitely not my cup of tea. The first few chapters were tolerable and even interesting but it went downhill very fast. The MC is arrogant, pe*verted and unbearably nationalistic. It was uncomforable and cringey to read obvious racism being glorified and presented for entertainment purposes. I can see already that this isn't made for international audiences. MC aims to be a superstar but what does he have other than a cheat-like system and his knowledge of his previous world? Nothing. No looks, no obvious skills, no virtue and no charm.... more>> At least not to me anyway. The plot armour is thick with this one - the parallel world MC wakes up to conveniently lacks iconic cultural works and incidences from his previous world setting up the perfect situation for him to openly plagiarize what used to exist in his original world. It's laughable that a good portion of the novel is dedicated to bashing other cultures and the MC also happily rips off the achievements of those same cultures that he makes fun of. Go figure. I don't think I have hated another work or MC as much as this. I gave it a good chance too and read up 500+ chapters. What a waste of time. <<less

The MC can get pretty racist/nationalistic, which is extremely dumb because he's trying to be the WORLD'S most popular celebrity as opposed to just China's. But his "knowing an entire world's worth of popular culture and media" and "learn all relevant skills to reproduce them" hacks carry him through that.

If you can look past the racism/nationalism, it's a really constantly funny story.

The romance is actually one of the best I've read, his wife is THE BEST match for him and is one of my favorite female leads of ANY novel... more>> I've read. (The novel is also NOT harem though the MC gets along well with tons of beautiful ladies.)

The only drawback is it gets a bit stale towards the end (somebody from a new popular culture field mocks/offends/looks down on the MC --> MC learns a new skill for that field then casually creates the best thing ever for that field --> everybody goes nuts and worships the MC while his opponent gets his face slapped --> rinse and repeat.

But the humor carried me through that.

It also is unlike other wish-fulfillment novels in that:

Spoiler

the MC actually GOES TO JAIL for his illegal hacking instead of getting away with it because he's the best.

[collapse]

Altogether, 4/5 and definitely reading all the way to where it got put on hiatus in 2017 (the author having gotten on the wrong side of Chinese censorship a few times previously). <<less

I kept reading because I liked the premise. But the cons are too great.

Here's this novel in a nutshell: MC gets a job, gets into a fight with almost everyone at the place on the first day and curses them out, attracts widespread criticism, uses his cheats and plagiarism to fight back (dude even takes credit on behalf of China for the achievements of modern n0n-Chinese; it's a parallel world so not all events have occurred identically), gets acknowledged by many (esp. Netizens), wins system points, succeeds at job, quits... more>> and moves onto next job, repeat again and again until you quit cuz the author ain't quitting.

Then there's the disgusting xenophobia. In many of these novels, Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipinos and other neighbors of China are painted as bad people who have no morals, are arrogant and are basically villains. I can imagine this sort of rhetoric doesn't bother the target audience at all or it might even be a selling point. But this is not for an international audience, especially those of us who are resistant to BS. The immune system reacts strongly every time the author gets a nationalistic boner. And when entire story arcs are built around that BS, reading any further becomes truly difficult. <<less

way better if you compare to other Chinese system and reincarnated in alternate universe stories, if you want to read you have to accept cliches, nationalism (these people hate all the neighboring countries with passion WTF) and repeated face slapping, filled with it, 10% action 10% romance 40% nationalism 40% face slapping.

it was showing as banned before, but now its showing as hiatus, dont know if author will continue to write again!

The shear studity of this webnovel left me stunned, the writer has a brain of a 8 year old and a thought capability of 6 year old, the plot was rubbish, the only depth the character had was that they were like totally so awesome and cool and really awesome and cool.I believe to enjoy this novel you would have to be either a complete moron, an idiot, a brain dead blob of existence, a chinese or someone who starts reading this book and it is the first written form... more>> of communication he has interacted with.

P.S- If you read a little but keep reading hoping that it would get better, it doesn't because the writer simply doen't have the capability of writing something even halfway decent.

And to the reviewer below me, no complains of nationalism in their media it's jingoism that gets people pissed which is the the entire plot of the novel. At this point its basically a communist propangabda novel. <<less

I really like the book since I can understand most of the context and slangs cause I’m also chinese. It’s really well written and I love the face slapping. I like Zhang Ye’s sense of justice and shamelessness but there are some parts that bothers me.

As a female, I like the song and Ode of Milan poem but I really dislike the harem setting in the book. Like, everytime it comes to woman, it’s like he becomes a beast. One women after another and he doesn’t even feel like he’s... more>> doing something bad. If I recall, he was never popular with woman before so how can he get into the bed of so many???? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... I bet there’s even more. What? 1 new woman into the harem for every 100 chapter? This made me feel like the author was too lusty and h**ny, describing the woman as if they are all willing once a man is shameless enough.

Even if I ignore the issue of the harem, the racism in this book was a bit disturbing. I understand the Koreans offended him and the “black” guy was a bit rude, but to go this far to dishonor them as if every korean and black are the same is a bit upsetting. I’m saying this from an American-Chinese’s POV. If this were to be read by actual Americans or Koreans, it would be considered as extremely racist.

All in all, the book was nice in most of the aspects, but the two points I brought out above really ruins it a lot. I will still read it though just for the face slapping and jokes but will definitely skip over the erot*c scenes. <<less
