This novel was masterfully written. The characters all showed growth. The main characters personality slowly changed over the course of the book, but his goals and ideals never did. You know its a good book when the MC starts off alone by choice, and surprises you by befriending the unlikeliest of people. Other reviews do a better job explaining how good this is.

Great MC with cold personality and set goal of becoming the demon king. No emotions because of his birth on the battlefield and diffrent culture in demon world. But loads of potential character building. A rushed ending but a good one.

PS: Don't listen to the reviews under 50 chapters in. They are full of nonsene and plot holes used/filled later in the story

Damn I don't care what other people have said about this novel this is a good read through and through to the point there criticism totally sounds unrelated and foreign toe it's as if they are talking about a totally different novel.... as far as the novel goes it's a good Korean novel and I mean good "KOREAN" novel nothing more nothing else if come with diffredif expectation then you are at wrong place but if you are for Korean novel then enjoy it's also keeps you at edge most... more>> of the time and people die for real in this novel so prepare for a heart attack it's just that I don't like the quality of the translation just that <<less

The start was good, the concept was great even for a second chance, game element genre that are usually hit or big miss.

However, just what the hell happened at the end? Series of ass-pulls and stuffs just happen because "why not?" and became an absolute trainwreck.

If not for the considerations I have for the early parts, I woulda gave this a 1/5. Totally waste of potential that I don't even know if the end was even written by the same person who wrote the early parts.

A promising start, but the series ultimately fails to live up to it.

As other reviewers have mentioned the author sets up several things which could be interesting but ultimately doesn't really develop them. He introduces new characters and power ups and potential plot directions, but then just skips all the interesting bits and uses them now and then as a passing line.

The author uses a rpg-esque stats and fighting system which is heavily reliant on skills and numbers, but does not really develop it enough that it might have any... more>> real value. The author attempts to introduce politics, but once again fails to really flesh anything out.

The pacing is also a bit strange and rapidly accelerates throughout the novel. It isn't nearly as bad as some other novels such as dimensional sovereign but it is noticeable.

Lastly the greatest sin of the novel might be the fact that the battles, of which there are many - especially later in the novel - ARE ALL BORING. The reason for this is once again that the author failed to flesh out any of the systems being used. We have no real way of grasping how strong anyone is, or if health mana can be restored, etc... So we have no idea of whether anything matters. <<less

It's not a bad novel. I'd rate it 4 stars, however author ran out of steam closer to the end. The chapters read more and more like summaries and the finale is lacklustre. Other than that it's your standard "rise to power through future knowledge" novel. At least that knowledge isn't used like a plot armour and MC's actions properly cause deviations. The setting is also somewhat unusual and refreshing, however it's not really utilised that much. All in all its an enjoyable read, but don't expect it to be... more>> something extraordinary. <<less

First of all, I want to thank the translator and author for the story.

Moving on, with Stellar Transformations being the first, with Evil God Average as the second, this was the third novel I finished reading from start to end.

I had very fun times, there were a lot good ideas, and there were some few epic moments.

Well, here goes nothing.

WARNING, SPOILER ALERT!!!

Spoiler

First of all, something that everyone who finished reading the novel would agree with would be that... the first part of the story was really really good. We had an OP MC with proper opponents to display his strength, we got hyped every time a new strong subordinate comes, the auctions were good. The things I loved the most about the novel were the part where interacted with the humans, when he blended in with them, and the part about the dungeon where the ecosystem was balanced and all that. There were a few more things, but I can't really remember anymore.

[collapse]

REALLY REALLY SPOILER, READ ONLY AFTER READING THE NOVEL.... I GUESS.....

Spoiler

I don't really remember when it started, I think it was when he was sent to that Hell Monarch guy's world, maybe before or after, but.... things just went downhill. Everything was just a mess. There were a lot of questionable developments, and even though I don't really oppose to an MC's choice in a novel, but that wasn't even the problem here. I think I noticed that I don't really get the novel anymore around the time where that previous 4th Grand Duke was going crazy and then he died. By then, I just didn't know anymore. By the time he went back, there was a time skip, and then I just didn't like how the things were going. And then after that, there were new ideas that didn't really get expanded: the dungeon, the spirit contracts with humans, the sister priests, the actual army, and all other things. A lot of the characters were just forgotten, or neglected rather, like the spirits, the other fairies, the humans, basically everybody. I kinda think that the author was planning for some good stuff, but he suddenly decided to end the novel. Although everything was resolved, it was so rushed. There are so many of them, just listing them all out will take all of my time. Then I guess the battles. The battles weren't very good, but I think they were at least good. But later on, they just... I don't know anymore. The scales of the armies didn't make sense anymore, by that I mean they pretty much became nothing more than numbers. Ugh.... there are so much to complain about, I'll just... I'll just move on.

Conclusion... SPOILER

Spoiler

Before it's downhill, I gave it unconditional 5 stars, but now, it is just a little bit more than 3 stars. The author was so good at introducing new interesting ideas, quite a shame that they are destined to never be fully fleshed out. I guess my biggest grievance on this is the fact that Dungeon Hunter pretty much had no meaning anymore. The thing that led me here, dungeons in modern time, was forgotten altogether up until the end where humans took up the name and they became Dungeon Hunter instead. Like I said, Dungeon Hunter, dungeon hunting, such a cool idea. Sadly, it couldn't be fully fleshed out. It had it's good moments, a few after it's downfall, and the fact that it's the third novel I finished, I'll stretched it out to give it four stars. Maybe 3.75.

I guess that's all, and I think that it still is worth a try. Peace out. <<less

The novel has a great start. I read the entire series in one day. The middle is strong, and there is plenty of foreshadowing indicating an interesting story that I believe could have easily gone some 500-700 chapters. However, the author got sick and had to cut the story short; there are more unresolved plot points than resolved plot points. Dozens of characters the author developed are written off with a line or two, and the author couldn't even keep the logic consistent towards the end. This novel is especially... more>> disappointing because of all the potential it had before the author cut it short. <<less

Not recommended.

This started off pretty strong, got repetitive after about 50 chapters, then the author just completely gave up in the last 40 chapters or so.

Deeply unsatisying ending, plot threads just get left hanging when the author gets tired of them, completely unearned power ups giving to the MC, and epic worldshaking battles given less lines than him beating up some orcs early on.

Entertaining story with interesting characters, plot not too slow, not too fast, without autor trying to extend it which looked forcefully (which happens a lot too many times in today's stories:/), shortly almost perfect (meaby because I don't believe in perfection;P). Story contains some small faults but except for them I feel grief and sorrow for ending. I don't mind that much this abandoned fight which ended somewhere between 2 last chapters... more>>

or could it be when MC said “You shall die.” he used "True Words" skill and it simply ended his opponent life?:P

Autor left a note in which he could at last answer some of these mysteries (these 28 chapters which he mentioned for sure would contain them: (). All in all I still give 5/5 simply because I enjoyed reading this story;)

P.S. I hope you guys (and girls;)) would write reviews AFTER finishing reading whole story. It makes me wonder how could you tell if story is good or bad after reading only 14 or so chapters. Some stories start poorly but grow better later and others are exactly opposite. That's why I believe you girls (and guys) simply should first finish reading and then give proper rating;) Hopefully at last 1 person would take it to heart:)

P.S.S. English is not my native language so sorry for any imstakes nad poor style (or was it OK? - Give like if you think so) ;) Thx for reading;D <<less

I cant say to have read a lot of Korean novel because I have only read this and Ark and Ark the Legend but what I can say is that the Korean authors make the first half of the story really good, but always after the halfway point it becomes extremely boring. In this novel you have the transported in time Demon Earl Randalph who failed to become the demon king previously and was killed by one of the four grand dukes of the demon world so he made a... more>> deal with 72 dead gods to prevent the destruction of the human world and was sent back in time sort of. But the strange thing is he only cares about protecting South Korea he could care less what happens to the rest of the world which is even more strange if he was meant to prevent the destruction of the human kind, but lets ignore that fact as the author is Korean but his main character is a Caucasian. The good thing in my opinion is that he sort of is evil because to achieve his goals he was willing to massacre large number of humans to awaken them to the fact that the world is in danger. The story also goes over a period of five years and each year there is about five to ten chapters about a s*upid auction and how the MC wants to show off? For what reason should he show off to just put a price tag on his head? The last arc of the story was extremely s*upid as it occurred out of nowhere and then when the MC finally became the demon king of the demon world he decided to stay in the human world? Why just because of a fairy, more s*upidity, like the author could have said that the rest of the demons were sent back to the demon world to start rebuilding it for his return, but no they stayed to allow humans to attack the dungeons as well as cause further monster waves, hypocrisy as he was meant to prevent the destruction of human kind he wasnt meant to stay after he did so and technically the monster waves should have stopped as well, but no. Like I said good start, good progress until the mid point and then it went down hill. <<less

It's certainly no masterpiece, but definitely a good read.

The novel itself was enjoyable with an interesting MC and concept. The author built both a solid setting and characters who left an impression. The selling point of this would probably be that the MC is an underdog who makes use of opposing factions indiscriminately to achieve his goals. The game-like system to measure stats and abilities was relatively non-intrusive, made sense, and held a much deeper meaning than originally appeared. In these respects, I was satisfied.

The plot was consistent but had... more>> definite flaws. Like most novels of late, the ending feels rushed. What could've been 70 chapters was reduced to 40, and it had an impact on the flow of the novel. Some concepts/characters seem to fade away or be forgotten as the novel progresses, too. While some of the most minor of characters are seen 100 chapters later, some built up to be the future pillars of the human race are never seen at all (Looking at you, Alin). The gods' gifts, too, are completely forgotten after 3 are received. The whole fallen god concept as a whole was introduced but left out, really.

But don't let this apparent negativity dissuade you. I highly recommend that you read this novel; it's both enjoyable and interesting to read. Just know that once you do pick this up, you'll finish with that thought of "It's over?", just like how I feel as I write this. <<less

First of all I'll just note that the Main Character, Randalph Brigsiel, is a DEMON fighting against the other demons to become the Demon King. Unlike other somewhat similar dungeon novels like Seoul Station's Necromancer and Evolution Theory of the Hunter the MC is NOT a human. This distinction is important because Randalph is a Dungeon Master who grow and influence the humans to undermine the other Dungeon Masters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Like some mentioned it's a good Dungeon Master / Management novel, especially the first half or so.

It's... more>> a shame that the novel was cut short, I feel like it should have been about twice as long since it was still pretty much about the MC preparing and setting his foundations for 150 chapters or so.

Because Randalph (MC) gained too much power too quickly from abusing his past life experience the Author banished him from the competition for 5 years. Basically his own progress was halted while the other demons caught back up with him.

Then there's the ending which was obviously even more rushed, however it was still a conclusive and satisfying ending that didn't leave strings loose and questions unanswered.

In other words while the ending came too early, it was still a good ending. And compared to quite a lot of other novels who honestly don't even have endings at all, it still a lot better. (I mean if you want to talk about bad endings just take a look at Coiling Dragon or Stellar Transformations...) <<less

Amazing story filled with action, tragedy, dreams, violence, and drama that tells the tale of the demon, Randalph Brigsiel that was given a second chance to become the greatest demon king. Following his journey, although rushed at the end for various reasons, has been the highlight of everything. The author and translators have done a marvellous job and I highly recommend this story to you readers, as it takes you on a trip to different worlds and actually makes you care about the characters in it. I know I did.

I thought it was a story about having dungeon spawn in the world or something like that, I guess it got me haha. I read a novel like that so shame on me by comparing it immediately but this novel better than I expected judging by it's title.

The novel is all about second chances and I feel that everyone deserve it even if the person is bad but then again I think there should be a limit when it comes to it.

Gaming system is average just the same as some... more>> old RPG game it would've been better if it was a bit better.

Characters are a bit forgettable it's more MC directed. It would've been nice if the author gave some memorable supporting characters.

Still a good novel not great but good. Read it lightly and not that a hard read. <<less

Is it entertaining? Yes. Is it well-written? Hell no. It's a pretty mindless power fantasy overall, with pretty much all the characters being dumb and plenty of places where the author clearly forgot stuff or ignored previously-established things for plot convenience... but the main character is a demon (nicer than I'd like, but still a demon) and he has a mostly-functioning dick. The main character being an idiot definitely detracts from the enjoyment, but it's only super annoying every once in a while. As a minor-spoiler example:

Spoiler

he gets a super important thing that affects the whole dungeon but can't be easily moved, so where does he keep it? The top floor so it won't be damaged, right? Nope! Obviously he puts it in the bottom half!

[collapse]

He pulls that kind of thing a few times throughout the story, and each time hurts. I'm torn between giving this a 2 and 3; I really like evil protagonists (he's nicer than I prefer, but still qualifies) and he has a functional d*ck which counters the overall poor writing... but some of his decisions are just infuriatingly s*upid. <<less

This novel is average at best, and really lackluster. It seemed like it was building up to something that would be fairly interesting, however that expectation was not met whatsoever. The author has a habit of constantly hyping up enemies, showing their traits, strengths, weaknesses, personality, etc. They will then show how much the main character's enemies has improved since last time. Despite all of this, almost every single one of these hyped up enemies disappears with a few lines. Immensely disappointing.

Furthermore, the plot is cliche. I can't say too... more>> much about it considering I haven't finish the novel, but so far the plot is really shallow. Nothing in it has any "weight". There is nothing remotely immersive about this novel, to the point when I read about the plot it seems like I'm just reading the backstory of some random side character. It's boring.

Side characters. They exist. Thats it.

And for the main character... it's also disappointing. Extremely generic. After being stuck in his ways and being unable to realize his faults for decades, he was given a second chance and immediately realized all his weaknesses and corrected them. Thus, this made him basically unstoppable for a good portion of the story. This story is entirely a one-man-show. Meaning, he will always have to save his subordinates and such when they get into trouble, despite having high stats and (according to him) being really capable. The cliche of him disappearing for months or a year then coming back stronger than ever is used multiple times in this novel. I mean come on.

Overall, novel is exceedingly average, if not below average. <<less

Not great but not bad. The novel tells the journey of MC to be the Devil/Demon King. The MC is supposedly an antihero MC with episodes of 'kindness' along the way. One thing I really dislike about the novel is the fight scenes. Can you imagine building up a fight and that fight somehow ended in a single sentence? Yes, a single sentence. Even if the fight does not end in a single sentence, the scenes are generally subpar. The premise of the entire novel setting is also badly utilized.... more>> Just look at how the Underground World and Demon World are used as a setting by the author. Overall, it's a bang average Korean novel in my books but hey, that's just my 2 cents. <<less

Been a really long time since I read this. Went back and re read it again. Pretty much you got a Demon Lord who went back in time to become the demon king by way of conquest of dungeons.

This Demon doesn't follow the typical evil to be evil trope, but one created solely to fit his unique personality that is line with how he was raised. Which is, he's cold hearted and will rise up to be a real leader for those who follow him. Not going around being a... more>> crazy psychopath just to be a s*upid crazy mu*derer.

Overall, I think this is a rare novel of a evil protag done right. Our MC will grow past his original perception of what is good and evil. Growing more in line with a human's chain of thought. Becoming the exact opposite of a story showing a good person becoming evil incarnate. Instead he turns from a semi evil demon to a truly neutral king of demons.

Rate 5/5 <<less

I think this story is a mix of 'Solo Leveling' and 'I Became the Demon Lord so I Created a Dungeon and Spend Heartwarming Time There with Non-Human Girls'. Also the MC reminds me of Ainz Ooal Gown from 'Overlord'. He is a demon and ruthless toward humans but not to the point of wiping them out.

I like the story and author has put lots of effort in the writing especially power system and dungeon management. Although most of the sentences either start with negative words or have negativity which... more>> make the reading tiring.

Also there is too little description in the story and it't not even mentioned how thedemon world, demons, the MC or the dungeons visually look like until way later.

But my main problem is that the villainous MC isn't introduced or developed properly and for me it's hard to care for him.

Here you have the usual Korean MC with arrogant and poor social behavior and stale character. Somehow he was born and raised on the demons battlefield but survived. His goal is to become the king of demons although he lacks in both power and intelligence. But when he foolishly dies and gets a second chance suddenly he become super competent.

There is a serious lack of emotions in chapters (good or evil) and the sometime mentioned history of the MC is really confusing. I think this story needs at least 10 more chapters at the beginning to connect to the reader and could be better without a going back in time element.

In my opinion if you can accept the coldness of the MC, it's a good read with an interesting and nonlinear story. <<less
