The legend of the continent, the battle that brought fame; the Sacred Phoenix Lady, the Windfire Meteor Godrealm saber-art; the pair that ascend and fuse, the golden sun and the blue moon, the fury of the crashing thunder. There is no magic, no battle qi, nor any martial arts in this land. However, there are martial spirits. Ten thousand years have passed since the founding of the Tang Sect on the Douluo continent, and it has declined. A new, proud generation of heaven’s chosen has been born. Can the new generation of Shrek’s Seven Devils rally the Tang Sect and once more compose the song of the Unrivaled Tang Sect?

A million-year-old spirit beast, a sacred deathgod that holds the sun, the moon, and the stars in his hands, and a brand new spirit tool system which caused the fall of the Tang sect. One miracle shall occur after another.

Can the Tang Sect’s hidden weapons rally the winds, and can the glory of the Tang Sect ascend once more? All of this will be continued in the second installment of Douluo Dalu—The Unrivaled Tang Sect!

Author is completely rehashing his earlier Douluo Dalu novel - and its worst sides come to light.

End result is a very poor quality story - it is only training and fighting, with no real goals or plot, with extremely small amount of world building. MC and everyone else just train mindlessly for the sake of training and hunt poor critically endangered animals to increase their own power - but there's simply no meaning to it all.

This is basically a better version of Douluo Dalu. The author learned from his past experiences and took a lot more time to develop the characters, their relationships, as well as the events that occur between important plot points. The largest difference lies in the fact that the MC is more along the lines of the usual innocent goodhearted xianxia MC instead of the knowledgeable, coolheaded type of Tang San (personally, I liked it though).

The novel, unfortunately is a poor retelling of the original. It has all the cliches and nothing new. The author tried to make something afresh by introducing Spirit powered guns and cannons, but imagining guns and laser cannons in a swords and sorcery world, where the most common explanation for unknown phenomenon is "Magic!", it's a stretch even for the most hardcore cyberpunk enthusiast.

A large part of the issues that plague this novel is the fact that the romance is taken to such obscene levels of drama that it's now... more>> a soap opera and a tragedy rolled into one. If your idea of entertainment is watching sappy love dramas, then this novel is right up your alley. The good parts are sadly drowned out by the mediocre parts, and the romance is overdone to the point of getting diabetes from just reading it. Overall, a letdown from the original with nothing new to offer

The protagonist makes nothing easy either. Maybe he should just be the agonist, considering how every 10 chapters he realizes he's an orphan and cries over it, trying to get the sympathy of every girl around him. In addition, he takes on obscenely ret*rded quests from the female lead's supposed father, despite having no reason. I guess this is supposed to demonstrate how deeply he's in love or something, but only comes off as a pe*verted definition of love, as nobody would think that suffering is the appropriate way of demonstrating love <<less

Much like most of his other works, TJSS has done a fantastic job with this novel. Granted, it is wayyyy longer than his original flagship novel Douluo Dalu, but I personally feel that it was worth the extension.

The flair of writing is not lost. The depth in his writing is very clearly shown in the development of the characters, the excellent setting, the lengthy battles etc. One thing I really enjoyed in this book is the emotional aspect. Though TJSS has implemented romance as a key part of many of... more>> his novels, I feel that it is very well brought out in DD2 especially. The ups and downs in the relationships between the MC and the heroine becomes a driving point in this novel, and its really, really goddamn good. I was very emotionally invested in the characters XD. It becomes quite clear that TJSS has really done a fking great job in making a set of characters who don't randomly slaughter their way into the peak, but have emotions that are not just limited to rage and pure killing intent.

Combine all that with a new type of spirit master specialization, a new side-job, a great new set of Shrek's Seven Monsters and characters, beautiful fights and wars; and you have this wonderful novel. It was a joy to read, and I do highly recommend it to all those looking for a classically well-written novel by TJSS.

TLDR: It's a pretty goddamn good novel, much better than the vast majority out there. Read it and you won't be disappointed. <<less

This is really is Douluo Dalu 2 - it's far superior in plot, character development, and writing style than the previous. While Douluo Dalu (the original) is above the rest of the common Xianxia in its own sense, this goes beyond the original in all aspects.

*Prepare for a massive review*

It's set in a time far after the original novel, but plays off it wonderfully. The entire continent has been permanently affected by the aftermath of the original novel, but the truth behind every event in the past is not always... more>> clearly understood. Cultivation not only has become more diverse (a greater range of spirits), but also more complex - there are better explanations on how soul power is generated and increased.
Spoiler

The Mysterious Heaven Art is still the main cultivation technique

[collapse]
At the same time, the world does not depend on the past; there are multiple advancements that make character growth more important, as compared to Tang San's power gained through memories of his previous Tang Sect.

The protagonist is male, like many other Xianxia, but he exhibits none of the stereotypical chauvinistic characteristics - he uses his head wisely, has the appropriate diverse range of emotions, and while he is not a Tang San in how San is always clear-headed in situations with girls, our protagonist is extremely respectful towards women and their choices.

Side characters in this novel truly do not deserve to be called as side characters. They each have their own story, and play pivotal roles (some more than others). The MC is an unintentional womanizer - he is an average, possibly even under-average, but he is caring and attentive. However, with that said, the MC remains faithful, even in conflicting situations. Relationships, both familial and beyond familial, are central to the piece.
Spoiler

In fact, I would call it central to the whole novel

[collapse]

The plot is terribly complicated. It feels as if there are 5 stories going on simultaneously. Our MC is not the cool minded Tang San, and so he displays the immaturity you would expect of someone his age, and also with his background. With that said, it is not a jumble of storylines, but a bunch of underlying themes that spring up from time to time, and suddenly weave together to make a brilliant finish. (If you can't tell, I really enjoyed this part of it).

Lastly, the antagonists. This is what makes Douluo Dalu 2 stand out from its prequel. It develops each side with its own backstory, in a very thorough manner, in a extremely realistic manner - there is no clear right or wrong. Beyond the occasional horrid being, there is nothing that can be assuredly correct, or incorrect.

Overall, I must say that this was an incredibly engaging read - it takes about 50 chapters, give or take, to really get into the novel, but from then on, it's a phenomenal ride. <<less

I liked the first series but this sequel didn't fill me up. The author tends to make very sappy MCs and this one is probably just as heavy as the his warrior-of-light but in the whole negative way. It was like reading the diary of victim of lifetime bullying.

What I really disliked was the whole idea of technology-mixed fantasy that pretty much gave birth to Skyfire Avenue later. Later setting the premise of Douluo 3. Good idea, bad integration.

The romance... really irritating and too obvious with how dialogue is written.... more>> I can never enjoy the author's romance writing but his battle scenarios are a different story. Expect exceptional fights with good descriptions of moves/techniques that allow you to visualize it cinematic in a way that doesn't lose out to the first Douluo. <<less

As DD1, this novel has all the right elements that are addictive. Good romance built up, friendship, a lot of “semi-mc’s”. I think this novel will surpass the prequel (as far as I have read it). Looking forward to more chapters. I admit to have read the manhua, but there is a huge difference in depth to which the novel goes and the manhua don’t. Good luck tl’ing it and spoiling us with this wonderful story!

5 stars. (Why did the star review not get in? Curious)

For me, this one is better than the prequel. It starts off QUITE a bit slower than the first (btw, I’ve read through all the chapters via machine translation), but then that’s more a matter of pacing as this one has approximately THRICE the number of chapters (AFAIR).

This gives the author more room to flesh things out that were barebones the first time around. This one has a VERY satisfying school arc, a romance portion that’s IMO the best... more>> of the Xianxia novels I’ve read, and a combined magic / technology system that’s better than the usual crafting / refining stuff that MCs usually have.

For those who find the initial powers lame, just stick it out for a while. Pretty early on, he gets access to his 2nd spirit after which he becomes totally bad-ass. His 1st spirit doesn’t disappoint either, the 2nd power for it may seem simple, but gives him a lot more tactical options (and makes for a more interesting story).
Spoiler

At the later part of the novel, his 1st spirit’s powers advance to the point where it’s really OP. The mental detection / info radius fans out to several kilometers (almost impossible to ambush his group), he gets group stealth (!!!), etc, making him easily adapt to either 1v1, small group, or large group confrontations

[collapse]
The only thing I’d say would be a negative is that sometimes, it’s TOO fleshed out. Hahaha. Anyway, very highly recommended. <<less

This is a bit light hearted story compared to its prequel, I was actually bored when I first read this story coz the MC doesn't have much of a personality. He's just a hardworking guy with no talent whatsoever. He has a huge luck factor behind him, Deus ex macina, happens all the time. He is just lucky nothing more. The side characters are kind of interesting though

Reviewing this half way, because I am sick tire of the same bullsh*t of DD1, you can read my review there, is exactly the same! Back then I gave 3/5 rating, this one deserves 2/5 I dont get why people gives it 4* rating or more, they should be little kids who like to read shounen mangas.

Like DD1 I recommend the Manhua more than the Novel, because most of the babbling text and useless characters are cut off, good job!

My Review:

Spoiler

The history on this one is Longer than DD1, but only on chapter (Words) counts, on world building, is much less.

The Plot is even more boring than DD1, everything is training and tournaments, and things that doesn't increase the vision of the world on this Novel, as many say, this is more a Soap Opera than a Novel, too boring, too bland, no adventures, nothing, just Party banters, like on DD1 it was good at start, but then you realize that all the plor revolves around people talking.

Once again MC is TIED to a group of people, which it only serves the purpose to create soapy dialog, misunderstanding, banters, random gibberish, etc. He starts with a sad past (yada yada, like all other novels we know) then he decides to become strong, but instead of becoming strong and mature, he remains a crybaby, crying about his past almost to everyone!

Not only MC wants revenge, a lot of characters want revenge with some one:

  • The MC
  • The Tang Sect Guild master
  • The Bald Bro
  • The Ma Fire Girl
  • The girl Ju zi in the exchange academy
  • The Girls who manipulates spirits in the exchange academy
  • Etc.

Most of those grievances makes MC's vengeance into child quarrels's grudge.

The romance is even Worse, Author once again LOCKS the MC into a LI since the begging! there is no romance here, technically,

the MC was married to Tang San's Daughter since he was BORN! MC is a beta male, he doesn't notice that the roommate of him is a girl, typical of shounen mangas, that's why I stopped reading these shits (after Naruto and Bleach). There are better girls but MC don't even look at them, the best girl the MA Fire Girl, author decides to SEAL her as a sister for MC. The only advantage besides plot that Female Lead has is that the author depict/draw her female form better than others girls. On top of it, Author makes MC have dreams about her, long before knowing who she is.

On top of this, the cross-dresser wife, becomes idiotic later on when MC shines more, and she falls into a support character. and all other females adapt the same Trope from DD1, turn from tsunderes to falling in love, people call this character development, NO IT"S NOT!

There are girls that declare their love for MC, all he does is pretend he is sleeping sheet tears, everything before knowing that his roommate is female. Romance is So Anti-Natural that pisses me off, as I stated, Author Sealed MC to Tand San's daughter long before starting to write the novel. and use the other females just as fan-service, just to tease readers's mind.

Later the Tang San's daughter falls into coma and then disappears after a while, when you believe that MC would focus himself into training the girl returns, with her real (Tang) name, memory erased, different body sould (they cant fuse like before), and all the bullsh*t an Author could asspull to sabotage MC on his training. SO everything resets, the same attitude of Wang Qui'er all over again, at first she is not interested, but when MC loses interest on her (since they cant fuse souls, MC believe is not her), then she start to follow him, watching and cling to him! is SO UNNATURAL that it IS painful to read.

It would have been Better, if Tang San took the girl to the higher plane, and made the MC work hard to reach God Level, but nope, since Author has no brain to write new original stuff, he sticks to the Party Banters to fill Word Count.

By chapter 400 I'm just fast skimming, cant wait for this crap to be Over.

The Magical tools part was very interesting, it would have been better for the Author to create a Novel around it, instead of mixing it alongside cultivation.

OMG! the novel later turned into a cheap Soup Opera, where characters don't

say important things, and just mentioned it on their mind, DD2 turned into those "Women's Face Slapping Novels" (like Hidden Marriage and Trial Marriage Novels) where you just want to pull your Hair off!

***HEAVY SPOILER!***

Ju Zi spend hours talking with MC drinking tea and bullshit, and doesn't say he is the father of her son. I hate to quick once I start a Novel, but this author is testing my patience!

***HEAVY SPOILER!***

I'm at the point where I click next chapter, red the tittle, click net chapter, read the tittle..... The most amazing thing is, I didn't lose anything, because by the tittle you already know what is the chapter about, and what dialog they would have, the plot and party banter is so repetitive that I was right in 80% of the test I did by reading the tittle. Now you can see how bad this novel is, where you can skip 3-5 chapter and lose nothing of the plot.

Ok I dropped this shit. just when the girl who has MC's son was about to tell him. Tang San attacks her spirit and menace her:

"If you don't want me to destroy you and your child, you would better keep what you want to say to yourself."

Sorry... This was my bottom line, my rating goes down to 1/5

[collapse]

I'm still currently reading, will edit according to my progress, but there is something I want you guys to understand:

It doesn't matter how good an history ends, if the beginning and most part of it is tr*sh, even if ending turns into something ZOMGWTF! the whole novel... is tr*sh.

You determine the value of things when you analyze them as a whole, same as making a building, the base should be strong, the walls should be consistent, otherwise it will crumble, even if it has a beautiful ceiling.

So 2/5 Stays!

Edit:

Dropped, score changed to 1/5, those who rate this novel high are Teenagers, of simple minded idiot, beta males without common sense. <<less

This review will have spoilers.
Spoiler

Compared to DD1 the romance has grown and probably too sappy, the action is still very good. The characters honestly feel like basically recycled from the first novel with some small differences (or maybe even none at all) Also blue silver grass (although the girl wielding it is an evil soul master) and the rabbit soul beast (the female mc) has all the same direction and abilities as the previous novel which I think is just lazy.

I feel like the MC is too vicious and cunning even though he shouldn't he doesn't have any experience scheming and he never killed a lot of people before yet does it easily. I feel like even tang san wasn't as cunning as him (which makes no sense,) and seems somewhat more ruthless. Also, during the tournament arc everyone kills SO easily, unlike the first novel. I know they're at war and they hate each other but still, you're killing people.

This novel loves to spout "Glory to Shrek" and stuff but it's funny how their pride is so hollow. In the first tournament the MC and the Shrek seven devil are registered as team Shrek they are against impossible odds and they survive because they are super adamant about fighting for Shrek's honor (which I think admirable but ironic in my next point). In the second tournament the Shrek seven devils created tang sect team and the substitutes from Shrek created their own team. The Shrek seven devil baby the Shrek team (I would to say I think it's incredibly s*upid that they chose to make their team, yet they are babying Shrek and helping them win) So I think it's incredibly funny they keep talking about Shrek's honor but for this tournament all they've doing is baby Shrek team and cheating too. If it was the previous tournament I really doubt they would accept being babied which is why I think is hypocritical (I also find other stuff hypocritical) too. During the tournament, the dragon girl received help from the MC and even though she's super prideful she still accepted help from him. (I think she accepted it for Shrek's honor but what kind of honor is Shrek's honor that you'll for accept help when all the other past Shrek's teams didn't accept help, I seriously don't get how that's honor)

Also, MC cheats to help the Shrek seven devils win. I think it's hypocritical yet he plays off because they're apparently the bad people even though they themselves didn't cheat in the tournament. (I feel like he's justifying cheating just because it benefits him, and other like Shrek Academy) Shrek and the others are on even grounds even though some are richer (so they have soul tools) and some are evil soul masters. And honestly you know something is wrong when you are actually somewhat rooting for the supposedly "bad" people in the novel.

Also in the current chapters one of the guys from the shrek seven devil used his life to stop his girlfriend from participating more in the tournament (she became an evil soul master somewhat recently and was kinda kidnapped). So before she was "kidnapped" she was super weak so she finally accepted her full abilites as an evil soul master, and a little after that she got "kidnapped" by an evil soul master organization. The reason I keep putting quotations is that I'm sure she was somewhat willing to go with them considering she embraced her evil soul master abilities and really wanted to get stronger. However, the author keeps using language like "kidnapped" and "brainwashed" like she totally wasn't willing. I know a part of her was unwilling but considering her circumstances she was willing to go with them to get strong. The MC has a light necromancer abilites (but he's not evil) so Im sure he will cleanse her. I think it's s*upid that they are just pushing the blame on evil soul masters when a part of her wanted to go.
During chapter 335 I dont get why the imperial tutor didnt forcibly end the match and surrender, I'm sure she has the reactions and foresight to end it. I guess it's because even he/she didnt want to break the rules even though the MC did many times lmfao!!!!
During chapter 336 I've somewhat had a realization. So the guy from with the evil soul masters girlfriend stopped her with his life and she couldnt participate in the team match. Even with all their abilities they still didnt face them fairly, I'm sure they would have won since they're MCs anyway. I know doing that helps prevents deaths but be a little badass and actually fight for it like the past tournament. Honestly after that chapter what seemed like a somewhat reunion between two lovers turned into exploiting love to win as a strategy.

I have seen a lot of people criticizing this novel and I will just come out and tell you that this is one of the BEST martial arts lights novels I have ever read. It is such a good novel that, I a person who hates writing reviews, gladly did.

MAIN CHARACTER-Hardworking and though innocent quickly becomes cunning. Even though he gains talent he isn't automatically op as in he can't fight people past his cultivation.

ROMANCE-I can't say much since there hasn't been enough translations yet but it is turning into... more>> one of the best romance stories I have ever read.

OVERALL-If you want a novel with Romance with action and suspense this is it.

EDIT : dropping it at 40%. At this point it's just dragged out with not much enjoyment, except looking out for the plot holes and ranting about it in the comments section I guess? If it can be counted as enjoyment. I'm lowering the score from 2/5 to 1/5. Objectively it deserves more but the way I see it, it's just douluo dalu 1 but with :

  • more plot holes
  • more dragged out
  • less story
  • even less world building
  • less interesting fight
  • much more lucky MC who get OP stuff on a silver platter (though he also works hard a lot not denying this)
So in short, it is DD1 but dragged out and done without neither love nor care from the author. Sometimes, I feel like I'm reading a badly done fan fiction of DD1.

And... more>> a small spoiler

Spoiler

By the time I stopped, MC already forgave the guy who killed his mother and who tried to kill him too. Best part? He didn't even confront him about it. He just decided to forgive him like that, out of great benevolence. Let's remember his main motivation for training is to get revenge.

[collapse]

OLD REVIEW :

I'm at around 20% of the novel and want to make a small review in case I end up rage quitting the novel midway.

First, it is indeed the successor of Doouluo Dalu and in general follow the author's general formula. Fighting, training, tournament, some bullshit, training, tournament, some bullshit, fighting, training, training, training, fighting. Don't expect more from this kind of novel. Love it, hate it, it's that kind of novel, and I'm not going to judge it badly because of that - I knew what I was coming here for.

But the plot holes....! DD1 (Douluo Dalu 1) wasn't exactly a model of consistency and had quite a few plothole, but overall it was bearable. And mostly it was more an issue of "I don't believe it sorry, makes no sense" instead of "the author is just contradicting himself". In reverse DD2 is very very consistent - in making as many plot hole as possible.

Often, the author change the rule he previously established. Sometimes, people make bets they literally can't win but no worry - the world will change to make it possible. Sometimes, MC makes a breakthrough and make the same breakthrough a few chapter later because author forgot he already made that breakthrough. I am not joking :

Spoiler

MC increased his soul ring cultivation from 5000 to 4200 years. MC was nearing rank 27, 10 chapter after breaking through rank 27. MC lowered the cooldown reduction of his op skill from 3 days to 3 days. And I'm saying the nicest ones. His spirit range massively increased from 200 meter to below 200 meter. Congratulations, you're so op.

[collapse]

As a general rule, anything that involve number in this novel will have a plot hole attached to it. Age, time spent, cultivation level, money, point earned - everything. Maybe some people aren't bothered by it and I would be able to accept it if it happened from times to times... But every 2 chapters if not even more frequent... It's like author is wracking his brain on how to be the most unconsistent possible. This point alone make it a tr*sh novel no matter how one slice it - at least in my opinion.

The funnest part? I'm only at 20% of the novel but according to others the novel is relatively consistent in the first half and get all over the place in the last half. Oh my god. In a way, maybe my main reason for reading is to see the apex of plot holes - how many plot holes can an author insert a novel while keeping it somehow enjoyable?! <<less

So after a long time after reading DD1, I started reading DD2 after it was completely translated. And I am disappointed. After the first half of the story the consistency of the story and the internal working of the cultivation system it's all over the place. The Soul Technology leaps so much in the last part it's like the Sun Moon Empire are playing an RTS game were all the tech only needs resources. The world and the side characters are more complete than the one dimension of the MC... more>> and his love interest.

The MC is the most beta male I have ever read. And this is the main reason that I write this review.

The MC if so emotional the when he thinks he starts crying or has some over the top emotional moments. When the MC doesn't think he will all ways do think that he is told. He doesn't make any decision and when he does he will make it with the mentality of other people. EX: MC wants revenge for his mother. After some time the Elders tell him that that is wrong so after some time he will not take revenge. MC, what to became o God not by his own will but because of some spirits. MC is bedridden and the LI takes care of him but when she finds it troubling to continue to with the good wife act she wants the MC to let her be old self but the MC much chance and not take any risks because of others and he accepts. For a relationship is good to compromise but this is too one-sided.
If you do anything good to this MC he will sell his soul for you because of reasons.

The love interest (LI) has some personality at the start but after she faints for the first time she will become s non-character. She will be there only to support the MC because "a wife can't be too smart so that she will not overshadow her husband." God the f***ing logic.

Tang the Sea God transforms into a moron. He seals his daughter's memory because she is born in the God Realm and she wants to go to the mortal world that is ok and I'm ok with the sealing of her powers to but to seal the memories of your lover that is to f*ck up.

So this DD2 was a 327 h 23 min and 28-sec waste of time if I didn't make it into an audiobook I don't know if I have finished it. Hope the DD3 will be better if not I will not be reading any more stories from Tang Jia San Shao <<less

This writing is a piece of art, creative, colorful, all-side POV, character-deep, and that makes the whole definitely impressive and immersive. Descriptions are so concise you could think you're seeing it.

The author emphasizes emotions as the source of events and the main drive of the story. Everything starts with revenge seeking and then keep moving through friendship, pride, hatred, love... It basically portrays the life journey of an weak orphan in an adventurous manner, with a touch of fantasy.

I personally prefer serious, slightly distant, cool-headed and calm MCs, so this... more>> crybaby was only so-so, even more when he's described to be both. My best take is the fighting scenes and the strategy side of the story, those are really mind blowing ! Unfortunately the best is only the accessory part of the book.

The dark side :

    • A problem with highly descriptive authors in Web Novels is that after a while, with elements basically all introduced, a thorough description-analysis-comment again and again becomes pure redundancy and a waste of reader time. We've already got the point after XXX chapters.
    • Also, some feelings are better left implicit, born from proximity and time, which was not done here and created a bloated, love-obsessed impression in later chapters. That was basically head hammering.
    • Spoiler

When you create a whole martially useless tournament to make couples of most characcters I can't say you're not biased !

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Same for Wang Qiu'er, came from nowhere just to serve as pitiful, sadistic contrast to the lead girl. No reason or enough time to fall in love, but she did, exactly when the MC was struggling for his girl. MC never felt tempted but the author pointlessly kept her and some pseudo ambiguousness in the picture just so he could later write a grand feelings combing festival in a valley for everyone (even spirits lol).

    • Ultimately the author tried too much to make MC perfect, loved and praised by all, always right, so much responsible and popular that it became inconsistent with his character. He was already made legendary before having done what should have earned that legend. The world didn't just revolve around him but was made for him.
Globally, I distinguish two parts of the novel, the Before Dong'er (so great, read that!),

and the After Dong'er (imagine yourself as a child having looping images of your parents hooking up stuck in your head... yep exactly that sickening). The love part takes too much time and importance, it's like telling everyone you know, every day, why you wanted to be a firefighter as a kid.
Spoiler

That being said, the immolation of Qiu'er later was spectacular, a perfect extrication !

You should read DD1 first before this or you will get massively spoiled for DD1 even from the first 10 chapters. Also the author clearly foreshadowed some stuffs he prepared for DD3. Everything is connected from DD1-DD2-DD2.5&DD3.

This is a sequel of DD with a new MC. The world setting is also more modern with gun, cannon, etc. Just take it with analogy where DD is pre-gun era and DD2 is gun era. The way how the story unfold is more or less almost similar to DD. You may see some... more>> dejavu moment. Most of the descendant/family from DD still exists here like Dai, Ma, Tang, etc.

It still features a very weak, very tragic, poor, tough willed and revenge driven MC which progress to very OP, lucky, and invincible plot armor MC. The story still unfolds using sappy overused romance and drama and similar setup, like school arc. The plot twists are all over the place, presumably more than DD. Pretty much what you love and hate is still there, like the usual wall-of-text explanation, faithful romance, or reused cliche to induce tear-jerking moment, everything with slightly better writing style. <<less

Improved version if DD1 so far, but with a lot of improvement towards the characters (so far). If you enjoyed DD1 I can't imagine you not liking this. The only negative points, if you could call them that, would be a huge luck factor going for the MC & a slow translation speed (gonna take years w/ the current translators speed). D;

At the same time a, "sudden break through", right before/during a fight is more of a writing device for this novel arch type. If this kind if plot tool... more>> happening a lot doesn't bother you, then it should be an enjoyable read.

As for the slow translation speed, that's more of a personal problem for those who don't want to decipher machine TL's (me), or those who don't read it's native language (again me).

All in all, a good read so far. I would recomend to people who like xuanhuan novels. <<less

I completely read through this light novel and I have to say its one of the novels I regret finishing or even reading I cant believe he wrote the first soul continent. The main character was the worst, I had thought this was going to be a weak to strong novel I had believed that he was going to work hard for everything maybe have some type of goal. I was sorely mistaken almost everything gets handed to him on a silver plater and to make matter worst he spends... more>> most of the novel crying. Then the romance was just bad in so many ways the female lead was annoying to the point she should've just been killed so many times but beyond that most of the story was him crying over her, then finding her then some bs happening and then back to crying. The whole plot felt like her ripped off a soap opera and decided to fill any plot holes with cop-outs. Lastly was the weak aim of the MC he just went with the flow the entire novel never once choosing for himself he wanted something that someone didn't mention before. <<less

At some point, I just stopped giving a f*ck about this...

My biggest gripe is the overly convoluted romantic subplot. The MC and the love interest have to go through some pretty damn unreasonable tribulation to be together and when you feel that things should finally come to their natural conclusion... The author basically says "Nope!" and resets the whole thing. I hated it, the whole Wang Dong -> Tang WuTong thing just... Urgh!

What I did like was the fleshing out of the Title Dulou stage of power, in DD1 anything... more>> beyond Lv.70 was rushed as f*ck so I appreciate that this one gave some fleshing out to it. Is just that by that point I started to care less and less about the characters.

I feel that this novel has just soo many wasted opportunities. For example, the sworn sibling relationship between the MC and Ma Xiatao could have been more fleshed out before their separation. The romance could have been... you know, actual romance for more than 1% of the novel instead of the pathological obsession the MC has for most of it when he is separated from her (seriously, it gets to the point in which he actually turns it into an attack that lets him transcend 3 rings of difference at the cost of being left an emotional retch, how messed up is that?). And the revenge subplot... Honestly I don't even know what should I feel about that, as the story progressed what was the main motivation of the MC fades little by little, this is supposed to be because he is maturing and coming to terms with it and whatnot, but honestly, I didn't feel moved at all, I just stopped caring about the whole thing <<less

Overall, It's a 3.8/5 novel for me (I put 4/5 just for rating sake). It's definitely readable. Truly it's a 3.5/5 but it was my first novel so it holds a special place in my heart.

A friend of mine and I were reading the manga and when I caught up to the latest chapter I realized there was a novel for it. This is my first Chinese/translated novel and I was s**ked in for a whole 2 weeks always reading in my spare time. It's been a year since... more>> I've read this but if I was to start right now I don't think I could reach the end.

Nevertheless, it was my first translated novel and I can't bear to leave a negative review because I genuinely enjoyed this to the fullest. But I will point out its flaws, there are a crap ton of tournaments and useless events. Romance is pretty garbage tbh and it's slow... slow as hell. I don't think they have even kissed yet at the end of the novel. It's also painfully slow, at first I thought there were only ~600 chapters but it's equivalent to around 1700. You won't believe how shocked I was. Mind you the next highest chapter novel I have read is AWE (~1300 chaps, 100% recommend one of my favorite novels) <<less
