Characters

Spoiler

The female lead is described as relatively plain but is smart and well versed in medicine, music and other arts. However her defining feature is her ability to silently endure anything thrown at her in situations with no alternatives, and have the reader feel sorry for her.

While the male lead is not only cold and insufferable but also emotionally slow (still trying to figure out whether he liked her or not when she ‘died’... by then does it matter?) and has shown no redeeming qualities.

[collapse]
Plot

The female lead is granted in marriage to the male lead as an attempt by the emperor to mock him with his leftovers, and the male lead feels disgraced by her, so he mistreats her. After she saves him, they interact more and he’s given the opportunity to disappoint her time and time again, while she for some reason falls for him... leading to her death.
Spoiler

There were times where it was more logical to abandon her i.e. a wife compared to a general or military seal, but there were other times where he could’ve rescued her/reduced her suffering with very little effort but didn’t bother - a large part of her suffering is due to his actions (i.e. agreeing to take on the woman who attempts to kill her as a concubine) and belief that since he can justify his actions to himself there’s no need to explain it to anyone else... And if he actually cared a little he’d realize how badly she was mistreated in his home.

[collapse]
She’s reborn, this time as a beauty, and interacts with the same people from her past life as well as characters in her new life, while the male lead is currently attempting to redeem himself by 'protecting' her again, in his own emotionally stunted way.

Review
Spoiler

The characters aren’t particularly likeable and the plot is mostly getting the readers to rage at the injustices the female lead faces, while begging for the very brief and shallow moments of ‘affection’ that the male lead occasionally shows (i.e. noticing her existence, not actively abusing her, hesitating before abandoning her yet again). One of the saving graces of the story (or rather the only one) is that it was summarized and we don’t need to go through an extended version to face a similar disappointment. Unless this was a parody of bad romance novels and we completely missed the tone.

Would’ve been better if she could get a fresh start with her new life and learn to live freely and value herself. Instead she’s caught up in the past and everything just picks off from when she died, except she’s prettier now.

[collapse]
tl;dr version – The female lead is a poor little cabbage so starved for love and affection she falls for a wood block that keeps falling on her head because while it hurts, at least it isn’t actively going out of its way to do so. And while it’s sitting on the dent in her head, it occasionally blocks other things like the rain, leaves and blunt knives. <<less

The worst couple ever! I would rather kill myself than be with someone like the male lead. Being ungrateful is one thing, but playing with her feelings is another. Even if it isn't on purpose, he shouldn't lead her on if he knows that he can't take responsibility. And the female lead is too forgiving. I know her upbringing has made her weak to kindness, but even she must have a limit! He has let her down countless of times, but she still continues to sacrifice everything for him. I... more>> pity and hate women like her. She is strong, smart and talented, but because of love she abandons her pride and allows others to trample upon her. <<less

I liked the start of the story, it was interesting and the female lead Su Qi Qi is lovable. Intelligent, talented but a bit plain, she is rejected by the emperor and the prince she is married to.

Unfortunately, I really hate the male lead (the prince). He is such a jerk to her all the time, I actually don't understand why she fell in love with him. He lets her down time and time again, even though she always stays by his side and saves his life countless times. I... more>> thought from the start that he would redeem himself later but then he did the unforgivable and at that moment I knew I could never wish for them to be together.

I tried to continue the story after that but I didn't really like the twist the author introduced
Spoiler

I thought QiQi's death and her rebirth in a recently deceased body a bit clumsy on the authos's part. Especially as one of the interesting characteristics of Qi Qi was that she was ordinary looking, and she loses it by being reborn in a beautiful body. What does that mean: that only pretty people deserve to be happy?

Although I didn't like much the development of the story, I'm thankful to the translator to have undertaken such a big project. Even though the chapters are mostly summarized, it doesn't really feel like it because it's done with a lot of details. <<less

She's stuck in a marriage with an a** who can't love her back and treats her like shit. She suffers and suffers. Read to like 100+ chapters from Suteki Da Ne's translations (which you can find if you look at the older entries). I like Susu, but there comes a point where I just wanted her to divorce her husband and go live her own life or find actual love with someone else, but considering the time period, she's stuck with the a** that is her husband and I just... more>> couldn't invest any more emotion or time into that. <<less

The story was ok up til it was indicating that she'd end up with that same prince she was married to, but I just can't get over how much I'm hating on the male lead atm... anyone else woulda been fine... but noooo...w/e I can't read anymore.. unless she ends up with someone else there's no point in continuing the story for me. I'm too much of a vindictive person to see them end up together again... no matter what he does as atonement it's just nothing in my eyes.

HONESTLY IT'S A HORRIBLE STORY BUT IM ADDICTED, NOW I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO WATCH THE BACHELOR, THIS IS EXACTLY THAT.

Make what you will about my above statement, but I stand by it. It's so.... so.... so frustrating. The backstory that went on for 60ish chapters really broke me. Like. It was... confusing... the ML made me.... wtf so hard.... the cousin made me wtf... her death made me wtf... her reincarnation MADE ME WTF.. but I can't stop reading. I'm going to go spoil the book for myself... more>> so I won't be this desperate to know what happens. <<less

Do you know how many tears I invested for Susu's happiness?!?!! All she gets is pain and misery from beginning to now. The male lead is a douchebag, males that like her don't chase, and she's fighting for her life every other day. Is the author sadistic because the plot just went full circle of suffering for the MC.

Plus now that the chapters have restarted, I don't even know how long I'll have to wait till the chapters reach it's farthest chapter.

MC will bear anything for a brief bit of affection -no matter how brief or how awful he's treated her in the past and will continue to do in the future- from the ML. Even just a glance is fine. What? He wasn't looking at her? She was just standing in front of the door and he thought he heard someone coming? That's fine- she'll take it! I'd honestly rather she end up with a rock than him. And, although he has the personality of a rock, he's not nearly... more>> as reliable as one, nor would he always be where she left him like a good stone would.

And don't even get me started about the rebirth plot. Literally her most defining characteristic was her plain looks- it's what determined why she acted the way she did. Yet somehow she's reborn into some super beauty who has the world's best men lining up to court her yet she still goes back to the jackass of a male lead whose head is so far up his ass he's trying to figure out if he liked the woman he personally killed and didn't even have the decency to bury? Might as well have chosen the guy who actually buried her. Or even the asshat of an emperor; at least he stopped at nearly killing her and didn't actually kill her. I seriously want everyone from her old life to go away so she can be raised again and taught to love herself. Never have I wanted a character to be in an Isekai novel so badly before. This poor, unloved girl deserves a childhood of being a magical/fighting/intellectual genius who can effortlessly create her own new magic because the worlds magic/ancient literature language is Chinese. <<less

This story was created to punish the reader.

Every time you get close to a redeeming moment, or something that would make you think, "finally, some pay off for all the hardship". Nope. Slips through your fingers every time.

Seriously, reading this story actually made me angry. I wanted the heroine to set everything on fire and start over somewhere else.

That might happen, but even if it does. I have a feeling that they are going to have the awful ML reconnect with her and have them be destined to be. Seriously.... more>> If he is her destiny, in her previous 100 lives, she must have done some truly awful things to deserve this.

There were some moments where you think, finally. There is going to be some revenge. Or happiness. Or something to give hope that things are going to get better. But nope. Just more suffering, misunderstanding and frustration.

It's almost like they expect each other to be able to read their minds, or just accept everything as having a reason. When literally talking to each other for 5 minutes could solve so much.

The worst thing is, I want to know how it ends. But not enough to actually read it if and when it gets uploaded. <<less

I absolutely adore the FL. She's strong even though her husband literally used her every time and isn't responsible at all. I hate, no loathe the ML and his friend. After the FL reincarnated, she turned into a heaven defying beauty in a country which priorities female. (May I stated here, FL is killed by the ML because of some girl......) And then ML's friend discovered FL is actually reincarnated and told ML about it. Although it seemed like ML's friend cared for FL, but the truth is cruel. ML's... more>> friend is selfish. Same like ML. Their selfishness, urgh. ML's friend in her previous life believe that FL should protect ML and blamed FL for every misfortunes that befallen against them. Srsly? In her new life, he advise FL to get back with ML? After he KILLED her? His own wife!! ML is actually shameless enough to claim 'Wife, wife, wife'. Really? She died because of you. The only character I like is FL. She's everything. <<less

... so is anyone else going to continue the translations? I like it. Yes, it's super sad and shit, like damn b*tch, you are still gonna go after him, even after all that shit?!

but I still wanna read the rest... it's heartwrenching, but I like that she slowly becomes stronger and develops a thicker skin, it's great! If I have to read one more modern assassin/medical genius transmigrates into girl who committed su*cide....

Update: YAY!! they are continuing it!

Hi shio,

Translator here, it hasn’t been lost in translation that’s how the author wrote the novel. Let’s just say the immortal/fantasy theme is related to her original identity. Ps. I also have intentions of extending chapter 2 – 10 for a more detail summary later.

I feel contempt for the female lead as much as I pity her. She’s so desperate to grasp at any crumb of affection. There’s not one male in this novel I like. This crappy male lead has disappointed so many times but she’s ready to commit her life to him for a cloak being draped over her. As expected, there needs to be some kind of reincarnation/transmigration element because her resolve and will is so lacking.

I will say the translation quality is good.

To tell you the truth, I can't enjoy reading this novel, from first chapter until 300+, I just fell irritation. Their romance to, the author really want to "force" ML to have relation with MC, that is what I don't like, and more ML character.

I don't like MC and ML, too soft when they facing enemy. When facing enemy, they give too many mercy and make enemy take more action to revenge, and it's still same with their traitor, and lastly threaten their life. There are some situation when ML/MC/their... more>> friend/their family got accident/almost died because enemy, ML/MC just said, "I'll make them regret...", "I'll revenge you..."."I'll kill him/her", and bla... bla... bla...., but no actions (this is worst). Until chapter 300+, there is no progress about how they will punish their enemy.

In conclusion, I give up in chapter 307, it's really boring and wast my time, and I hope you can consider again to read this novel.... <<less

As much as I like the plot. I dislike the relationship between the ML and FL. I honestly hate the ML to my bone. The FL lead is also too forgiving! If I were her, I'd hate him forever and I won't ever bear to be with him. Even though the feeling of love is there, I'll be sure that the hate is much bigger than that love.

I'd rather her be with Hua Chi than the ML. F*cking ass. I can't help but curse if its this man. Seriously, so... more>> infuriating. <<less

The story is the usual political intrigue dialed up to 11.
The MC is an Enduring Person so there will be a bit (mm, no lets say ALWAYS) Suffering.
Not to mention in that era the men is all kind of despicable, women is gruesomely vicious, and those lower than your status is obviously a tr*sh, etc.

Spoiler

and after being continuously betrayed, belittled, used by the scum prince our heroine first life ended with more betrayal.
Being killed by that tr*sh is the last straw.
Wow, prince dude, you dog sh*t you. Die in a ditch or something.
If in the next life she somehow fallen/forgive him, then its now the MC fault for giving in. We'll see.

[collapse]

WARNING! Will make you hate the male character for being socially superior in the story and for treating women like kleenex.

Spoiler

Or is it just me who feel like that...?

Reviewed after summary c172-176.

This novel can probably be called as the saga of a skilled girl. And frankly, I’m quite unsure in how to quantify my opinion on this one. The plot started off good. But then, it went on “Yo Soy Betty La Fea” path where the ordinary-but-highly-skilled girl turned world-shaking beauty overnight. Additionally, the male lead was someone that seemed like being pushed into becoming the lead. There were side characters that are more worthy to get the MC, but why must it be with him that is... more>> so... jerk!? (previous reviewers have sufficiently elaborated it)

Of six variables that I usually consider, two of them (character building and plot) are flawed. While two variables, narrative and pace, cannot be measured because it is summarized, not translated. World building is also just so-so. Luckily, this novel’s hooks are very fine; its tricky intrigues and twists could attract readers to keep waiting and coming back for more.

But the thing that saved this novel from becoming a bore is the fact that it is summarized. Yes, that’s right. Thank you very much for the translator because if she didn’t do that, I’ve probably dropped this...

For now, I’ll refrain from rating this one; will be back later since there’s still hundreds chapters left and I’m still following it. <<less

This definitely a really good story. It’s such a waste that the current translator only made summaries of the chapter. At later volume the summary became more detailed, but still, I wanted to read the full chapter. Especially the few first ones. Different from other back-palace romance, Su QiQi is not pretty, stunning, or loved. She is smart, but that doesn’t mean that others would favor her all of the sudden. Fate is not kind to her simply because she is the MC or because she regain memory from other... more>> life. I am pleasantly surprised about the way the plot moves.

The problem with this novel is that the plot sometimes moves to completely different direction. I don’t know if it’s lost in summary/ translation, or it is from the original story. I just went “????” when suddenly cultivation is mentioned in the story. Edit: Thanks for the clarification sutekii. I'll be waiting for the extended summary ^^ <<less

I rated it 3 for the first 60chapter, it's good so far until her reincarnation.

Spoiler

what I am going to say is, the rebirth is so f*cked up. I'd love it if the author could just end there when she jumped off the cliff rather than mixed up cultivating and magic stuff. It's not well outline.
