Gotta say that I don't usually write reviews or anything of the sort, but i just can't let people give up on this show solely based of the fact that some of the characters have similarities to other shows. The author himself has mentioned he did this on purpose and mostly as a joke, nevertheless the show quickly moves away from these characters and gets it owns charm of sort ... more>>

Such as the many misunderstanding caused by the MC's personality (btw this does gets explained later on in the story and GOD DAMN ITS GOOD)

All in all this show is not what many say it out to be and it's sad, that this gets thrown down as much as it is.

PS: Gotta be some of the most quickest updates ever! (LIKE 15 CHAPTERS IN A DAY, CHILL DOWN CKTALON!) <<less

The cover makes me cringe and the description really put me off reading this novel for quite a long time. This is a novel full of misunderstandings and I now find it funny how those two things gave me such a big misunderstanding.

I just read the latest chapter and I sincerely hope that those who only read a few chapters and dropped the novel or even rated it 1 star give it another try and at least try to understand that they misunderstood or simply didn't bother giving the novel... more>> a chance.

Out of all the novels I've read AC has best comedy, best misunderstandings and I even cried at the latest chapter. It does a great job of setting things up and the author gives plenty of foreshadowing. The action scenes are good and the description don't go overboard either. I would honestly recommend this to anyone who reads novels.

Oh and many thanks to CKtalon for translating this wonderful novel. <<less

Really good start to what seems like a promising series. The authors writing style & the translations are both quite good. Even with just 7 chapters, I started to like the MC & potential side characters. There's a clear homage to One-punch man & the world-setting seems to be similar to the OP setting, but probably with some Xianxia-style levels etc. (I guess) I can't wait to read more! The MC is really funny and apparently delusional.

Final update: Read till c94, it just gets better & funnier, I highly recommend... more>> trying to read it and it is seriously one of the best ongoing series I am reading. It has great characters (especially the MC), power/cultivation system, VR, humor and everything you really want in a great series!

Read at least 30/35 chapters to see the cultivation/skill levels etc., reading just 5-10 chapters might give a slightly misleading perception. <<less

While the story is supposed to be ridiculous, it is ridiculous in the wrong way - it is the MC and his forced choices that should be bullshit, while the setting should serve as a "common sense" foil for them. But the world is equally ridiculous - if an instructor regularly fires students he has been teaching for just 2 or 3 days - it is that instructor that should be fired, as he completely failed in doing his duty.

I'm not sure why the hate...

Sure putting a Saitama (one punch) in there is not original... but Chinese web novel are usually repetitive, the same kind of bad guys... same kind of mc, so introducing some look alike doesn't matter that much to me, besides the story starts quite well, the first interaction with riko and our mc is hilarious.

I've only read till chapter 15 so the story hasn't had much progress but so far is really promising, fresh, funny, and with a good pace so far.

There are several points to commend about Absolute Choice:
* Humor - there are few xuanhuan / xianxia novels around that have as many funny / weird moments as this one. Definitely a nice break from the usual too serious novel.
* Breaks from the usual cliche - the author puts in quite a bit of effort to make sure that things stay fresh. Sometimes, just when you think it is about to fall into the usual tropes, you come away pleasantly suprised.
* Unusual MC -... more>> the MC is a unique mix of arrogant and humble. What are sometimes arrogant words are actually just his own way of motivating himself, because he acknowledges his own weakness. He's different from Bai Xiaochun that he's not cowardly, but same puts on a brave front.

Some people might not like that sometimes events are too random (especially the absolute choice popups), but it somehow ties together cohesively further on. Recommended read. <<less

I love this series so much, and I love the translator too!! If only we can remove previous translator update chapter, we will get less than 0.5 average for release frequency. Imagine 77 chapter in 20 days!! That is 0.259 orz praise the translator!

The series start by giving me cringe about all chuunibyou stuff mentioned in the first few chapter. I persist my way through after reading the author note (which is thankfully translated by the translator/CKTalon and compliment the series nicely). I still remember my budding excitement begin to... more>> grow after the appearance of one-punch man parody. Please at least you must try to read at that point. Reading the series at this point, you will notice that the chuunibyou stuff we mention earlier wasn't that childish/arrogant anymore.I think it feels more deep when a comedy series start to encroach in other contrary feeling such as sadness (the other example is AWE/ A Will Eternal)

The story is good, the comedy is exceptional, the translation speed and quality is superb. Thumbs up from This king!

Did I mention the absolute randomness in the series? Imagine you got two road to pick to go to town, road A which is made from stone, and road B from marble. Did you guess what MC choice? Of course it's a grass road which pass through the forest, before arriving at the town, you fool! <<less

I didn't think much of it at first, but when I took a chance to read it, I was surprised. It's really cool and very new. In terms of originality, this takes the cake. A fantastic piece of work. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for something new or something to chew on for the moment. And kudos to the awesome translator for ISSTH to also picking up the awesome story!!

Till ch.62 review
... more>>

The comedy in this novel is gold. I personally like it. It's a mixture of bold shamelessness and life teaching lessons that will attract onion cutting ninjas.

The author seems to be guiding the story in a very cliched direction. There's mention of a 4th apocalypse and I imagine that the MC will be the saviour or somethin like tat. Besdies that the plot is mainly the MC completing funny choices at awkward times which ranges from confessing his love to asking for a guy's underwear. This author is golden imo. This story has a spot similar to issth in my heart. Why? Because the author incorporate life lessons in it. It feels genuine. The emotions are overspilling and the MC will bring you through one hell of a journey

Now, this seems to be a main problem. Most people here stopped reading because the author used similar characters from animes and there was one part that even I got turned off by it but i'll assure you. That's only for the beginning chapters. No rip offs after chapter 62 and the story is really good for you to drop it for the minor difference in preference. Most characters have their own personality with their own backstory. And the best part of them all, they act like normal human beings. Overall, best characters i've seen in a while catering to the large spectrum of weird people as a whole.

Till ch. 92 review

This story is still golden. Ignore all those nay sayers that tells thou to drop this novel. A novel with the most substance you can fucking find on this site. It has everything. Shamelessness, humour, action, slight romance, bromance, darkness, gags. Anything you can imagine. Most of all, it has feelings. You can resonate with the MC. You know that he's weak. You see that he is trying so hard to improve. You'll get so immersed in his journey that you will root for him. Recent chapters got so many feels i'm taking baths with my tears.

CK is doing an amazing job pumping out chapters with exceptional quality. Overall, would strongly recommend people to read till chapter 12 and 68 before judging. That's when the comedy peaks and shows the style of the author. This story is a love it or hate it story. But regardless of what your opinion might be after reading it, this masterpiece should definitely be given a chance. I'll be constantly refreshing my reviews for this piece.

Absolute Choice feels refreshing after reading quite many novels. Authors writing style is really good and translations are done fast and extremely well. (I love TMW, also based on that I have high hopes as the translator chose this one as his other project). It’s really nice to read a modern/scifi styled cultivation novel, and while it’s still in the beginning, this feels really promising series. There is a cool time loop element in the novel, but so far it hasn’t been explored much. Also the cultivation system hasn’t been... more>> explained much, but it feels pretty similar to other novels, so I’m waiting eagerly what unique functions this novel will bring to it. It’s interesting enough, so that I plan on reading RAWs to around 50-100 to see how the world/story develops. Will update my review after that. <<less

This story is basically Hero Academy meets Hunter x Hunter and One Punch Man. So far it seems to be a good mix of action and comedy, but the story hasn't been translated far enough to reveal much else. CKTalon is a wonderful translator and pretty much every series he touches is worth a read.

Nice start, the plot has enough interesting points to keep me reading. Although, "This king" thing is becoming quite repetitive, I block it out the same way I do it with other arrogant MCs in other Wuxia novels.

I don't see any traces of romance at this point, but I believe the time loop element in the novel is enough to keep you reading

A disappointing read, Not really recommended. Read if you're out of other novels.

First the Description is false as Shi Xiaobai already knows at this point in time that he has to choose one of the choices and the choice shown in the description has not happens yet so it must happen in the future if at all so why would he act like that.

While the MC is offered the troll choices he doesn't get anything from doing them not even the lowest level of rewards.

The Author has ripped characters... more>> appearances and occasionally personality straight from Hunter x Hunter, and other anime/manga. Not really a negative trait for a rookie but most certainly not a positive one either.

The Chuunibyou antics of the MC are unique and funny. The MCs brash and self-confidant personality was nice but the author had a chapter that explains that its just a facade. <<less

Up to this point this novel has shown a lot of potential.

The World is one of (Super-)heroes and threats from outer space/other dimensions/ monsters. The heroes power comes from psionic cultivation, therefore the Xuanhuan tag. The MC, a 13 year old child, has somehow been transported there and now has the Absolute Choice system to help/hinder him. The story progresses with the MC becoming part of a the hero-organisation Gaia and and his live there while trying to become a hero. The story often subverts your expectations by having things... more>> turn out in a unusual way. People have been complaining that some parts of the story make no sense the explanation for the respective problem is usually given some time later.

The MC has a good personality (which is rare for Chinese male MCs) and has been shown to be very intelligent in certain areas. He refers to himself as 'This King' most of the time and talks in a very Chuunibyou-like way. This might annoy some people but his actions aren't because he has delusions about himself or his non existent power. In fact he knows exactly how weak he is. To avoid spoilers I will just say that he has his reasons and that they will be explained within the first 55 chapters.

There is a variety of interesting side-characters many of which seem like they have an backstory behind them. But since its still so early those have yet to be explored.
The Novel has a few characters that reference other works, mostly japanese. For example there is a hero named One-Pun and the MCs instructor at the hero organization is basically Hisoka(the crazy jester) from HunterxHunter. But the author already said that they aren't the same as in the original and that there won't be too many of them.

All in all it is a fun and enjoyable read with lots of potential. <<less

It was quite good in the beginning, but couldn't keep reading after he joins the hero org.

The instructor for the rookies makes the mc go through curse of burning to unlock his first meridian. I wouldn't have a problem with that if the mc had a choice and the curse had a 1/10 sucess. If i read it right the mc didn't even know he just initiated that curse. This is just plain stupid the higher ups in the org wants the girl who recruited him to seduce him then the instructor wants to play with him when he have 2x S potential the first one in the history of the organisation.

So far, it isn't bad.

The main character acts like an idiot. No, he probably is an idiot. He is a gaming otaku with a 100% chuunibyou disease.

Its a refreshing character type in a xian xia world. We don't usually get idiots. We have idiots, but they always go full retard. This MC in this doesn't go full retard. He understands himself the most, so he judges himself appropriately. He isn't humble either, but he is far from confident in himself.

But because he is an idiot he makes misunderstandings, which I... more>> love, since they are hilarious if done right.

Unfortunately, he suffers from "OP"-itis, in which he'll talent and power himself way through things (like the usual MC's who say they don't have talent, just hard work, when that's just bullshit, and they have the most talent). But he has all the talent.

The game mechanic of his absolute choice isn't really used that often. I thought it would troll the MC more in the beginning, but it isn't used that often or that much. If the author puts in the game choice more, it would be much better, especially if it trolls the MC (like the experimental log of the lich series).

And it suffers from excessive peanut gallery that goes no where, and nobody, who isn't chinese, likes reading one god damn page of nothing but extras who we don't give a shit about, comment on what just happened. Seriously, they need to stop that.

All in all, it has a 5- star potential, a 3 star execution, and if the author brushes up on some of the tired and old narrative choices, then it would be a 4 over all.
Basically: use the absolute system more, dramatically decrease peanut gallery talk, improve exposition execution, and make more misunderstandings.

P.S. Be prepared for characters ripped off from other series (except that it kind of annoys you that they don't act like their original counter parts *cough* saitama *cough*, which puts them at a cognitive dissonance... except the hisoka copy.) <<less

This novel is pretty enjoyable. I feel like it's closer to a fan fiction than an original story though. From what I can tell, the author has pulled characters from at least three different sources. It's got someone similar to Saitama from 'One-Punch Man', people similar to Hisoka and Killua from 'Hunter X Hunter', and a more muscular version of Nendou Riki from 'Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan'. You could also compare the MC to some random Japanese chuunibyou protagonist. I wonder who else has been thrown in?

I don't find the eight grade syndrom routine funny but like the situational humour, misunderstandings, and others parts of the MC's character. I also like the fact that he's a genius, and the fact that plot breaks archetypes and cliches.

The MC is a bit annoying, until you notice he's just a little chuunibyou. I mean, Absolute Choice is just like Noucome with all the humor and comedy, but also gore and 'kind-of' mature content. Yes, Shi Xiaobai may be a little smug and eccentric, but from the first chapter we read things like: "He was the strongest in his universe/He was a king above everyone else" etc, and yet he suddenly appears in the body of a 13yo kid who thinks he's overpowered?

As I said, if you get... more>> annoyed by the "This King"-shit, just treat it like you're reading a kid boasting, this novel is worth a read, try to read at least to chapter 5, chapters are short so don't worry. <<less
