I never read this yet but I've watch the movie on youtube last year and I love the plot. Though its kinda cliche but most people love cliches. It depended on how the cliche been molded in order for it to be catchy. Indeed, it catch my attention. So maybe, after I finished some of my save reD up list. I'll read this but nonetheless, I recommend this if you want to read some cute school life love story.

The translator of this is the same translator of To be a... more>> virtouos wife. That I've read, recommend it. I love her translation. Although there're mostly some terms in chinese which remains on pinyin form. Its kinda hard to understand at first but gradually you'll be able to get the gist of it later on.

That's all. <<less

A little cliche, but still a fun and easy read.

Basically, a super hot but introverted girl plays video games. Her in-game "husband" dumps her for the "most beautiful player," but then the game's strongest player "proposes" to her. Little did she know that her perfect "husband" was really... (I won't spoil it)

Don't expect a lot of gaming or strife -- this is more about the romance. Somehow, it really reminds me of Twilight... not the vampire part, but definitely the shoujo-ness (sparkly-perfect-guy-who-loves-only-you theme). It's a fluffy romance that you'll enjoy... more>> if you don't think too hard about it.

Dreams of Jianghu's translations are good as usual -- well-written but with lots of Chinese vocabulary to remember. Dreams of Jianghu are always good at capturing funny/cheeky conversations and environments.
Lil Bliss has translated more of the side stories, but the translations flow a little less smoothly. I'm still thankful for their hard work, though.

P.S. If you're a fujoshi, you'll love the last BL "outtake" chapters. Our ship has sailed... ;)
But if you hate BL, don't read them and complain. <<less

I've actually finished reading this one a long time ago, around last year to be exact, and just realized now that I haven't written a review (how slow!).

The first one I read was Lil' Bliss translation, and only far later I found Dreams of Jianghu's work when I was reading another novel there. Aside of the similar plot, both have drastically different flavor. Both are great and could be said as excellent representation of the original novel, but the nuances each one created were distinctively unique, which just goes... more>> to show how translator's insight and presentation might influence readers' perception toward translated novels.

Overall, doesn't matter whose translation, this novel was one with undebatable 5+ star in my mind and had became the cornerstone by which I measured many other pop romance novels, so there's basically nothing I could say except "perfect". It started off with a "bang" and ended with a lot of fireworks. It had solid world construct (including the fictional game that I wish someone will make for real), solid plot, solid characters, irresistible hooks, and great narrative conveyed at just the right pace.

If there's weakness that might make people dislike this novel, then it's probably have something to do with the novel's readership target. Its sugary content were fairly high, so perhaps people who would prefer unsweetened novels might find much to be desired. Additionally, although the MC love interest's perfection is something desirable among shoujo/josei readers, some other people might find it hard to swallow that. <<less

Just one part of the entire thing was enough to sum up my feelings for the story:

“If I knew there would be a day I would love you this much.

I would definitely fall in love with you at first sight.”

... more>> If I knew this story was going to be that good, I would have read it early on. Something I needed to read after all the unfinished, cliched stuff on the site. It’s also nice to understand where the Dreams of Jianghu translation name came from.

Attractive story without the bumps and problems associated with other stories. Just One Smile Is Very Alluring (I’ll call it by what Dreams of Jianghu calls it) is a story that gives the relationships at the beginning and keeps at it. Not a long story, not a short one, just enough that we want more yet understand that there won’t be more…

I’m now on to reading the bonus chapters… ton of them… guess the author also felt the need to expand the world?

I would give 4/5 but I know that would just be because I wanted more… So yea, 5.

Also, for people a bit turned off about the MMORPG aspect of it... IT'S A XUANHUAN MMORPG!!! Lots of xuanhuan and immortal terms and I found myself really wishing to play it. Different from TKA where the book makes the game exciting, this story has an exciting game in general... <<less

A Slight Smile is Very Charming is the story that Really, Really Miss You could have been. The setting is also similar to Black Belly Boss, Don’t Run, while it shares the same universe and author as Come and Eat, Shan Shan but the pacing was better and the characters developed their relationship more and gradually fell for each other.

Taking place in an MMORPG, the female lead is ditched by her in-game husband when she encounters her idol/the top ranked PK and he proposes marriage. Working together and interacting with him and his team, they fall for each other in-game and arrange to meet offline. The MC then realizes that her current in-game husband is also her idol in real life and they begin dating and working together offline as well. Throughout the story they also handle trolls and various antagonists.

The story is actually quite simple, however their interactions were quite charming and you could feel the development between the two characters as they don’t just rush into love. The female lead is cute but sensible and holds a strong position in-game, although she appears slightly more introverted offline. While the male lead also has a rather dark sense of humour but unlike Shan Shan, this is mostly aimed towards people aside from the female lead.

I also liked how the characters had a clear distinction between game and reality, with the MC above using her real life appearance to compete within the game, and clashing with people irl just because of their feuds online – something I found quite dignified. They’re not, however, above revenge in game.

Their interactions offline was a touch more stiffled though – but mostly because they didn’t have quests and supporting characters to help their relationship grow through non-conversational means (while the author spent a lot more time on their in-game wedding than their actual one…). The talks they did have were a lot better than RRMY and improved and became more playful over time.

In terms of translations, the Lil’ Bliss version is easier to read as it conveys the overall meaning, while Dreams of Jianghu spends more time explaining the specific references. Both translators did a really good job though. <<less

This is my hands-down all time favorite C-Novel! Thank you to all the wonderful translators!

I loved Wei Wei Yi Xiao so much that this was the first C-Novel I read in the original Chinese, despite my low reading proficiency!! What I did was I copied and pasted portions into this pinyin translator (pin1yin1.com) so I could read it aloud and see dictionary translations for certain words and phrases... it took a tiny bit of devotion but I did it!

I have only played one MMORPG once in my life, when I... more>> was in middle school (so like 11-13 years old), which was zOMG! on gaiaonline. I am not sure if anyone has ever heard of it... It was an online no-download game, and it was a lot of fun, where I could fight bosses and team up if I wanted, so I had some basic intuition for the basic character roles on typical MMORPGs, like "tanks" and "healers" and stuff. Since that time, I have never played any more games, but I think that was enough for this novel's premise to get me hook, line, and sinker. I think Wei Wei Yi Xiao is really genius.

I mean, obviously, this is not "high art" or whatever, since the main characters are super perfect and you're just like here vicariously for the titillating romance (WHAT a romance this is, though! Da Shen! You manipulative genius! First love is a SLAM DUNK!).

Slightly off topic to review the live action franchise: About two weeks ago, I finally discovered that they made a movie and drama series since the last time I (re)read this, and I nearly reincarnated in excitement. I've seen the movie like three times now (LMAO yes. and props to Angelababy, this is my first time seeing her act and she well exceeded my expectations ... which were admittedly low due to prejudice over her exceedingly pretty face and the hot novel-turned-live-action-franchise e_e please see: Horikita Maki). I also stayed up painfully to finish the drama series, despite how slow it was (this is like the Twilight of China, LMAO! need to drag that popular YA romance out and milk it for all its worth!!!), and this is my first time seeing Yang Yang, and omggg what kind of Chinese Apollo on earth!!! He too, exceeded my expectations. He nailed Xiao Nai. Also, no one else can act otherwordly and arrogant enough other than Yang Yang for Nai He Da Shen. WATCH, MY FELLOW WEI WEI YI XIAO FANS! <<less

I have been indulging myself with shoujo and shounen genre for so long and frankly I'm quite tired of watching a meek and hopeless heroine that need to be rescued by a strong and invincible male lead. Reading Just One Smile is Alluring is an eye opener for me. While the MC's are a power couple (much to my relieve), they are not those type of clingy partner that need to be helped all the time by others. Which is why I have been re-read this novel for so many... more>> times and not once did I feel bored.

Sweet but not sickeningly sweet plot, makes me want read another chapter to another chapter without hesitation.

p/s - Xiao Nai dark side is a plus, Wei Wei not being a masochist is another big plus. <<less

A great read very light romance, well paced novel excluding the fast wrap up end. If you liked the novel you might also like the drama adaptation Love 020. But be warned it is different from the book in the sense that there is a lot more malice involved to make it 30 episodes worthy. Still well made but not the same enjoyment as reading the novel.

This novel confused me at first (like really). But it paid off to keep reading. The couple is beautiful in more ways than one and after reading so many blandcromances and xianxia, this is extremely touching.

I like it. End of sentence. Try it out. You need a break from other things. 😘

This novel is a gem. As one reviewer said, this story may seem dull and ordinary to others as it has no plot twists, major obstacles, or hateful antagonists. But these things are what endeared the novel to me. I simply love its lack of drama and angst; I have read enough of those, so this is actually a breath of fresh air. I especially love the characters' (both main and side characters) interactions with each other both inside and outside the game. The book is funny and sweet. So... more>> if you're tired of melodrama in you're romance and is in the mood for an uncomplicated, fluffy love story, you might want to give this a try. <<less

Good translate. Nice & charming words. But the story is just 'ordinary'.

Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. They're married and live happily ever after.

That's all. No plot twist, practically no antagonist, no rough wave.

Read, smile, read next, finish.

This is a very adorable romance that keeps you smiling throughout. I was reading this in school with this goofy grin on my face, and my friends would just be like, "She's reading light novels again" lol

I like the slow paced love, and how he treats her so well! Nothing felt rushed, and it seemed oh so right. This novel really gives me such a warm feeling.

Kudos to this picturesque couple!

Even though it's a shoujo and the mmorpg part is not the one we need to focus on, I think the author is better at writing about mmorpg than the author on shounen mmorpg type...

Well focusing on the story it's great, a bit fast, you will finish it a couple of hour but I think our WeiWei is a bit too weak? Hmmm ok it's a shoujo, the male lead need to be awesome but...

Even her children are better than her at gaming... Or her son is mocking her... her husband gene right there... Hard to think that she is rank 5 in PK list...

The author is good at giving a real feeling to the background of the story, quite easy to follow what she is showing us.

Many side character are funny and the humor is good (when it's not for mocking our poor WeiWei :/ )

Anyway I enjoyed it, good for a change of mood after all those shounen other world / VRRPG / thingy... <<less

it was translated by two.groups and i read.the one by dream of jianghu, i also read lil' bliss version and both are great
DoJ offer more comprehensive explanation in their translation, lil bliss completed all side stories even the BL side story

the story was about the gamer girl getting her character in mmorpg dumped by her mmorpg husband (no feeling, only for couple mission)
and then proposed by the strongest character there

the story itself was sugary sweet, cute, lighthearted, and all that romance stuff

there are conflicts, but the girl and... more>> her (new)husband are OP both in game or irl so i see it as funny instead of sad/angering

so i reccomend this story to those searching for mmorpg fluffy fluff romance <<less

This story had me laughing and feeling sad with its up's and downs. while the review below me touch's up on the summary from wwyxhqc's I went in thinking it was another novel about a women who's marriage was broken off and some guy randomly offers to marry her. I was happy to find out that it did take part in a game world but still managed to flow between the game world and the real life world they lived in just perfectly.

I HIGHLY recommend this to... more>> people who want that romance novel that can take you on a emotional roller coaster of "aww how cute" to "F*** that girl!" to "omg is this really happening..". This novel is not something you can judge by it's cover or summary. <<less

微微一笑很倾城 is translated by two groups.

The first is Lil’ Bliss : A Slight Smile is Very Charming, while the second is

by Dreams of Jianghu/ wwyxhqc: Just one smile is very alluring.

... more>> Note: while I said second and first, I do not know which group started translating the series first. Both groups have very different style in translating, so no copying others here. Personally I prefer wwyxhqc, as I read their translation first, while Lil Bliss has more complete side stories.

It is not really clear in the summary, but the story take place in both MMORPG and real life, with MMORPG being the dominant one in early chapter. The story follow Wei-Wei, whose husband-in-game divorced her to get married most beautiful female player. The marriage was done to finish quest and get buff, so she didn’t think too much of it. But since her character is the in 5 top PK list, it became a big news and people kept saying: “Kidnap the bride! LOL”. This series didn’t focus much in action, but PK, relation between player in guild, boss fight, quest dkk are certainly here. Don’t be fooled by the cover, the story flow is more to josei rather than shoujo.

The summary from wwyxhqc is as follows

If you were “tragically” dumped, and then a very strong, very cool and very arrogant man proposed to you, how you you react? Bei Wei Wei’s response: Da Shen, did your account get stolen? This world is too fantastical! Her ex-“husband” just moved on to marry the “Most Beautiful”, the “Strongest in Jianghu” has just come to propose? And said he’ll give her a better and more magnificent wedding. The faculty “flower” at a famous university, Bei Wei Wei was embarrassed but quickly once again married … … <<less

It was brilliant romantic, slice of life, comedy. It was funny, unique, romantic and short. It was a good, short, hilarious and light read. If you're looking for a quick and interesting read, this is what you should read. Although there was no fighting and not too much fantasy elements, I still enjoyed it. It was a different read as compared to the other light novels, but was entertaining and enjoyable, none the less.
