Probably the only more-than-150+ chapter novel I reread.

Imho, it's 4-4.5 for me but reading the negative feedback from those who didn't finish the novel made me rate it a 5.

1. MC - some said he's like a girl all over the novel. Nah, been seeing a lot of effeminate guys, so no, him being a "girl" in a bl novel is not necessarily true.

-Some also said he seems too innocent as if he was coddled. Yeah he is innocent, and yes, he was coddled. You'll know how he was coddled... more>> and overly protected by his brothers if you'd read the whole novel. So him being innocent is true and actually logical based on what he experienced growing up.

-- and no, MC is not s*upid, he's just too comfortable with ML that he became too reliant.

2. ML - growing up with the kind of environment he has, his personality make sense. We really can't expect to see a holier than thou guy after being cast aside by both side of his family yk

- about him being 'verbally abusive' with MC, I don't really think so. Banters are really normal in a relationship, and he never say something that he knows MC can't take.

- I really like how he wants MC to be dependent on him but also wants MC to be independent and powerful on his own. Dude, make up your mind.

3. 'Unhealthy relationship' - yes, it started off unhealthy. But character development happened. To the point that ML became one of my fave ML. He really cares about MC, he'll do anything MC ask him to.

4. I also read someone saying somewhere that ML don't love MC, he only brought MC along because he's the rainbow colored mage he's looking for. I don't really think so. On the first 100 chapters, you'll see that ML's the one who fell or felt something first. He already want to keep MC along with him even before he found out about his soul.

One thing I agree tho, ch 640-700 seems kinda drag, I skimmed on those in my 3rd reread. And extras are definitely a must read. <<less

Update Rate: 3.5 star, yeah I have to admit that it a funny novel. Alright! I'll be honest with you guys. This novel managed to insult my emotion and manipulated me to give in to some questionable ideas and in proper behavior by deploying it as the quality of protagonists because they knew we are biased toward the main characters. However, as I continue reading I had more and more notions to rebel and criticize the behavior of the main characters and started to see the unfair plot that happens to the side characters. The novel is hilarious, but then as you continue reading the author happens to give all the hilarious moments to the MC, which was defined as "charming" to the ML. My words can be harsh but that quality of charming is easily found if you have a pet. One more annoying thing about this couple is that the ML almost views the MC as a girl to the point I would say for some reason, the author seems to steal all good qualities of female nature and through them, all to the MC, like cute, tender and smooth white skin, and most of the girls side characters appeared to be annoying. All the main characters' rivals happened to be people with no brain and all they had are greedy and bad temperaments who would choose to act recklessly. Last but not least LMW implied the disadvantage of being an older person compared to a younger one, as the author would make all canno fodders surprise how talented the MC was with such a young age. I'll explain why this point actually lowers the quality of the protagonist. If you are a college student, I highly recommend you NOT to read this novel. It is a waste of time. I'll explain why I have this kind of impression.

You might be skeptical as to why I keep reading to c435. That was because the universe in the novel is quite interesting as it seems to be a multiverse to which there is a way to travel between each plan. That world was enormous to measure and the way the author describes the built environment, such as architecture, landscape, and magical beast aided the reader's imagination. As architecture students myself I take this kind of visualization into account and the author had my admiration. However, the story describes everything and every techniques as if preparing you to carry on that practice and about to send you that world as well, which is very unnecessary. It makes you feel so guilty as your conscious keep telling you that if you were to read something like this why don't you just go and read history or geography book? It would be more beneficial.

Now let continue why MC is a disappointment. The MC was a carefree mind and fresh type of person, thus it is reasonable that he was able to fully focus on cultivating (or studying). The first hundreds chapter portrayed the MC as a type of teenager with a strong determination for personal growth and skills development which can be seen in the way he chose to do research by reading a lot of books. As a first-year student, I found the MC situation resonates with the way I make the transition to college. Thus, I considered the MC as my best friend and could not wait to learn more from him as his personality grew. In contrast to my expectation, as the plot went the more the MC lack of quality characters. For some reason, he made some unnecessary arguments which not many well-disciplined people would choose to utter. Although those rivals started to bitterly provoke him first I still preferred an act of low-key revenge with a graceful and humble manner or more reasonable in an educated way type of rebuttal rather than directly using those shameful words to curse them back. For some reason, the MC didn't make much effort to become stronger as he was gifted with innate talent. It appeared that there was no real challenge at all, which is unfair to many side characters who were described as hard-working people. Although he was treated unfairly by some people, there were always many high-rank, popular and powerful people who played as his backing, especially the ML. The ML is mischievous, strong-minded, super smart, and handsome which is pretty attractive to the reader. The way he solved problems is decisive and did not procrastinate which was good energy to keep up with, but then this perfect ML happen to lack emotion to the point I could define him as a sociopath.

People who like Yaoi might be interested to read LWM, but let me hear me out before you invest in reading. To be honest, I had a notion to give up on LWM since I had finished chapter 200 something. Their s*xual interc**rse had nothing to be excited about. Instead, it makes you question the chemistry between the main characters. It was just like the ML felt h**ny and just forced himself on the MC and later they talked about it when the ML forced the MC to admit that he liked it. Damn! This kind of pleasure is normal because the MC could do it with other people and feeling satisfied (ML feeling) is not the definition of love and because of something like this, no matter how many times the author tries to pull out the lovemaking scenes, you the reader would just say "Yeah, again and that's it. The MC was a toy and the ML was not sincere". Isn't it an insult to you as a reader who spends time reading and is willing to support the protagonist no matter what, but then you feel like they don't deserve your support and this kind of happiness is contempt to witness?

Additionally, since the ML viewed the MC almost like a girl, is it still a BL novel? What is wrong if a guy has muscle and a strongly built body type? Why would the author have to make You XiaoMo the MC as a fragile boy? The reason for You XiaoMo's smooth skin was because he had a magical lake to bathe in, and his cuteness was one of the reasons that attracted ML (the second reason could be because MC was innocent and hilarious, which is so unconvincing), what if one day the MC become ugly with many scars? What is the alternative to their love when the MC gets older? What's a childish romance!!! This novel might dedicate to the bullied high school student who daydreams of being talented, pretty and having a strong and powerful boyfriend as a backing which failed to even educate the audience on the moral value of becoming mentally strong.

I should not forget to mention the repetition of the storyline. I would not mind the repetition if each stage challenged protagonists, however, it was always very predictable that the protagonists were going to win in an awesome way which was "unbelievable" to the point that you can say, yeah when those cannon fodders had a powerful family, You XiaoMo had a god backing him, which is the author who has no shame to flourish and gave everything to You XiaoMo, while the side characters were standing there to witness and celebrate his achievement or jealous him. CHOOSE ONE! So Unfair! People have their own life, and not everyone is interested in this already gifted person.

The side characters such as the Qui team and many of You XiaoMo seniors and schoolmates are more interesting, who actually have a respectful character. For some reason, those I like are Fu Zilin, Xiao Hie, Shequi, Baili Tianyi (I hope I remember his name correctly), Yin Ge, and Feng Chiyun. My favorite couple happens to be Yin Ge and Feng Chiyun.

Regardless of my curiosity, I will just drop this novel and pick up another one. Good luck and enjoy some hilarious moments if you decide to read it because I admit that it is funny. But as a warning at some point, it manages to insult your intellectual level.

Alright, so did I like this story? Yes

Would I read this story again? Maybe?

Would I recommend this story to someone else? Lmao nope

... more>> What I liked:

What I liked about this story for the most part was the world building and (most of) the characters. While I did enjoy You XiaoMo as a main character, he was kind of the stereotypical shoujo character (but with a dick). He was small, weak, effeminate, and heavily relied on Ling Xiao for everything. But for all that he was boring, he was also kind and strong willed in a "I'll never give up" kind of way. And by 700 chapters he was pretty endearing to me. I also loved his every single one of his contract beasts. They at least had very diverse personalities that made the story far more interesting.

The world building was pretty good as well. I wouldn't say it was the best compared to many other C novels, but with having over 700 chapters to describe it you get a pretty vivid and detailed idea of what the world is like and how it works. The pill system was very unique and extremely detailed. I'm talking the author is incredibly descriptive when it comes to the systems in this world. So much so that I 100% believe that lots of readers would find it off-putting and I could see someone easily dropping this story because of it.

What I dislike:

The whole story was largely predictable, there was rarely a time when either of the characters went up against foes they couldn't swiftly defeat (when I say ML is OP I really really mean HE IS OP). Rarely do they come across an actual challenge, and rarely is any even suspenseful enough for me to be on the edge of my seat, even with 700+ chapters in the story.

I also heavily dislike Ling Xiao. I do find him interesting, but besides the problems with him being so incredibly overpowered, he's also the basic pushy, pe*verted, possessive, gong you see in many MM stories, but on steroids. I honestly cannot think of a single TRUE consensual s*x scene between him and YXM. I'd say most of their encounters are dubcon at best (and that's not a good thing either). You XiaoMo is practically never in the mood for s*x, but always either acquiesces simply because LX can't stop pushing for it, or is forced by LX anyway. It's pretty disgusting. And even with 700+ chapters and numerous s*x scenes, this issue literally never gets better? ??????? The h*mophobia by the author. This is just (sadly) the usual stuff you see in MM media. Weaker effeminate bottom, with a strong, manly top. It's so fetishy that I always feel a little icky when I read stories like this. I'm just so LGBT story-deprived that I just sometimes read them anyway (this was also my second C-novel so forgive me. First was MDZS and I just decided to read the next EXR translation I found). Please note that gay men can be switches, that a more effeminate male can be a top, that a shorter man can be top. That male couples can both be masculine OR feminine. Sorry, this just pisses me off and I see it way too often. I read every switch story I find just to cleanse my soul.

The portrayal of women. I cannot for the life of me recall a single well-written, well-rounded, powerful, possibly kind, female character in this entire story. They are all (for the most part) cannon fodder. And all are usually b*tchy, mean, antagonistic for no clear reasons, mindless, and/or weak. MC especially puts women down in his internal dialogue a bit too often for anyone's tastes.

TL;DR:

Decent writing, decent story (at times), a few decent characters, and a bit of decent world building.

But also many cliche and predictable plot points, toxic portrayal of women and gay MM relationships (sexism and h*mophobia). A very uncomplicated story with a weirdly complicated (and convoluted) pill creation-process (I feel the author put too much attention to detail in the wrong areas of the story). Dub-con at every turn, way too long of a novel for the story it tells, but at least it's an easy read?

Idk. I did enjoy it but I absolutely don't recommend it to anyone else. It really wasn't that good.

HOWEVER, THANK YOU TO EXILED REBEL SCANS. They did an amazing job translating the entire thing (and again, this novel is over 700 chapters. EXR walked so we could run.) <<less

A couple of points that did not sit well with me about this novel:

1) the blatant disrespect for women and shaming them for showing skin and/or having physical encounters with more than 1 bloke. There are insinuations that state that a woman is meant to behave in a docile, obedient, and submissive manner, and must have only one partner, and not show so much skin...

2) the stress on the fair, slim, and slender 'pretty boy' and 'beautiful man' as the only desirable aesthetic for a man to have... as... more>> well as the girly petite bottom and beautiful man top pairing

3) treating male v**ginity like female v**ginity... having your chrysanthemum bleeding from a forceful act is dangerous and very very painful... one can't just feel the tear then recover and feel good during the first act. I appreciate the use of lubrication and prepping... but somewhere in some chapter... there is no such thing as 'naturally talented' bottoms that don't need lube...

I'd like to see less forceful and abusive tops in the relationships as well... it's extremely uncomfortable when the MC continuously gets it put down and called s*upid by the ML

I pray for some semblance of equality for both genders and relationships <<less

This story till the chapter I stopped can be broken into : 80% pills, 15% the MC being a naive idiot and the rest the ML straight up being creepy and weird (bonus hate towards women mentioned). Like usually I ignore all that possession and manipulation in Bl but here it's just straight up ridiculous. Like one minute the ML is straight up making the MC a perfect s*ave and the next second he's lusting after him. The change is very sudden and poorly written and it was the... more>> main reason why I dropped this novel.

And about the pills part, damn I felt like I read a manual on brewing pills rather than a danmei which I expected to read.

The way the women were portrayed was really sick. It's pretty clear the author feels women to be quite the inferior species to ever exist.
Spoiler

like the slowest person in a class is only supposed to be a girl? Really? And the way the infatuated girl (forgot the name) behaved was really pure cringe to read. And the way the ML compared MC's body to a girl and deemed it to be much better than a girl (a girl's was like a twig and easy to break apparently) was plain awful. I really wanted to stop right there.

[collapse]

This novel was pure disappointment for me because the first few chapters were really good. I feel like I got cheated :/ <<less

I want to give this a 1 star now.

To be fair, I really liked it at the beginning, the world-building really intrigued me due to how solid it was. Practitioners? Mages? Alchemy? Cultivation? It was an interesting idea that really pulled me into this novel's world.

However, everything else in the novel was very lacking.

The supporting characters were bland and felt like carbon copies of each other- they only appeared when they were convenient and most of them were easily forgotten. If a somewhat interesting character appeared, they would most likely... more>> never appear again since the author likes to forget about side characters. I also didn't like how most of the females were written- none of them were solid nor memorable. There's also blatant sexism in the novel. Most of the characters overall were very unlikeable and felt like they would belong in the author's recycling bin.

The main couple wasn't any bit romantic, it was very s*x driven and about quenching the ML's lust, which was offsetting and annoying to me. I also found the ML quite abusive, and there was a lot of moments where I was very uncomfortable.

There is absolutely no character development (unless you want to count leveling up as 'development'), the MC is good at everything, the ML is good at everything - this was established at the beginning of the novel. The entire read felt like I was watching a b-rated shounen anime- the main characters continue to become more and more powerful, there was absolutely no excitement that came with it. It was very repetitive, especially with battles. The MC/ML would always win, outdo themselves, impress the crowd, etc.

If you only care for the s*x or/and OP characters and wouldn't care about side characters, an exciting plot, actual romance, lack of development, etc., I guess you would like this. <<less

If you’re looking for a amazing plot or great side characters you’re in the wrong place!
Despite being 731 chapters, this novel isn’t anything groundbreaking or special with its plot or character development. The only characters that really get developed is our two main characters and the plot is fairly straightforward. The ending is a bit rushed and many things are predictable.

That being said though, I still gave this novel a 5 star because it was somewhat of a unique experience for me. There’s nothing really angsty in this novel... more>> so compared to what I usually read, this is sorta lighthearted and a fresh breathe of air. It wasn’t amazing but it was entertaining enough for me to read all 731 chapters.
I would consider this novel a guilty pleasure because it has the same depth and complexity as your average Isekai anime.
If you’re just looking for something to read out of boredom I would 100% reccomend. <<less

After over 700 chapters, there's a lot to be said about this novel, so I'll break it simply into what I like and didn't

Liked:

    1. The protagonist. This story is a true weak to strong, like a battle shounen. The MC works hard and makes his way up the totem poll based on skill, talent and, of course, extreme luck. He is also extremely sassy and hilarious. The ML is also provides top tier wit, mostly in response to You XiaoMo.
    1. The romance. Though Ling Xiao (the... more>> ML) doesn't appear for many chapters initially, the romance develops pretty swiftly thereafter and they are together as a couple for the majority of the book, being together for many years by the end. Ling Xiao constantly teases/bullies You XiaoMo, but he is very protective and shows his affection in other ways (mainly s*x haha). There are no misunderstandings or relationship drama between the two.
    1. ADVENTURE. This story is massive in scale, there is travel over continents and realms, magical beasts, item creation, fights, cultivation. There are also a whole lot of characters that are introduced over time, along with many rivals.
Didn't Like:

    1. Misogyny. Seriously, there's a lot of it. 9/10 women are evil in a one dimensional way, and there are a tonne of sexist comments made in the narration, the MC even told one woman to get r*ped! I had to pause reading for a bit after that. Luckily, there are not many women in the first place.
2. The romance (sometimes). Rather small point here, but I was hoping for more tender moments from Ling Xiao (ML) by the end. He clearly loves the MC dearly, but I wish we could have had a truly soft moment from him once or twice, but he mostly just teases (bullies) the MC one-sidedly. Further, I don't like when writers write as if only the top/seme can enjoy or initiate s*x. You XiaoMo is tsundere-esque so it's implied that he likes it, despite the protests, but it would still be nice to read a scene that doesn't involve him being scared/annoyed/upset over having s*x.

3. The last third. While the ending was conclusive and HE, the last third or so of the book degenerated. It wasn't awful by any means, but the last 100 or so chapters were mostly broad narration with very little dialogue and choppy scenes, quite contrary to the earlier novel which sometimes had excessive description. Though most things were wrapped up, there were still some minor points that, if fleshed out, would have greatly improved the ending and how we saw the characters' arcs before sending them off. This is especially true for the secondary characters, some of which we had just met or learned about fully, and some of which we had known for a long time before they disappeared during the last half (the Qiu team) :).

Overall, a very enjoyable read that I would recommend, but it started a bit slow, and ended a bit fast. <<less

LuluCrapibou well I've tried few times but just can't handle this. Compared to novels which i've read this one is the worst.

ML ? Yep- narcist, selfish, mol*ster, treating MC like plaything, rapist, more OPP than OPP

MC? For godsake so s*upid that I can barely whitstand it, without personality, acting like brainless dog (sorry even my dog can learn more and btw I love her) some of you said that he is just like girl, well not at all, for those who doubt I must say -girls have brains.

Plot ? So... more>> long and boring that I wish luck everyone.

I really think that author should read some novels or go for some course.

After reading GDC, Thousand Autumns, Heavenly Official's Blessig and many others I just feel like i've been changed seat from horse to childish bike.

Wow... that was a really long novel, and it keeps going!

I thought that I would never be able to read it to the end but yeah, I did it. I must say, however, that I had to stop it, time to time for several weeks because I was getting bored. Don't get me wrong, it really is an incredible novel, it's just that with very long fic, I tend to be lazy Haha...

But, the characters are really funny and you don't really have to know much about cultivation world because... more>> practically everything is explained. Mostly...

But I recommend this novel. Just, you must have a strong mind to finish all the 650 chapters, ahaha! <<less

This was already said, but has to be said again. The ML is too controlling and manipulatice. Everything has to go his way. He mocks MC most of the time and makes fun of him (I didn't find the joke about MC's double-digit funny, it was brought up way too many times) It isn't funny, it is rather mean. The MC is clearly bothered by this but he's afraid of ML. The ML would just force himself on the MC, even if the other is in a bad condition... more>> and doesn't want to do the do. While some of the side interactions are really cute, it is not a healthy relationship.

While the story is alone by itself and the MC is hardworking and very loveable - the story is pretty much based on their relationship, I can not give one more star.

This novel would be a masterpiece for me, if their relationship would contain equal mutual respect. <<less

With the high ratings and regards for this novel I really, really tried to enjoy it.
The story in the beginning is so focused on numbers that I almost didn't make it through the chapters. Page after page is used to describe percents, magical herbs, magical pills and what not. I went into this novel thinking I had found a BL novel that I'd enjoy, and instead found some kind of twisted Farmville story.

To top it all off, everytime something special is mentioned, you can be absolutely certain that the... more>> MC will achieve that. A rare beast? OH BEHOLD THE MC GOT IT! A rare plant? LO AND BEHOLD THE MIGHTY MC DID IT AGAIN. I did not enjoy the MC at all, and only became more and more frustrated with how "lucky" he was, yet totally ignorant to everything.

Then there's the seme-guy... Don't even get me started on him. Being rude all the time, bordering to raping the MC, not showing any affection... Not to mention the discriptions of his dick. For godness sake, I know that this is a yaoi, and big dicks belongs to the seme and all... But... Really? R e a l l y?

I tried, I honestly did. But I found myself being so utterly annoyed at everything happening, and the MCs, that I gave up. Perhaps it gets better later on. Who knows. But if it takes that long, I don't feel like it's worth it. <<less

I tried reading this, but I just can't get into it. The MC is like a doormat - no personality or quirkiness. There's not even an attempt at humor. The only reason I can stand this flurry of transmigration novels is that it often makes fun of itself or creates ironic/hilarious moments that makes it so I don't try to take it seriously.

The novel is so wooden it takes the fun out of this genre. I'm still in the first 100 chapters, so I haven't gotten to the part where... more>> EXR took over the translation. But the translation for the first section is pretty subpar. <<less

*I must be clear that I have read up to chapter 90 and don’t plan to read further.

While I like this story a lot, I have decided not to continue on with it. First, I want to explain what makes this a good story, and then why the interactions of the couple has made me stop reading.

I love fantasy and so the best point of the novel for me is the world building which is super fun and interesting. The main character is also pretty charming. The side characters, leveling... more>> system, and setting are all very nice. My favourite part of the novel was simply watching how the main character, You XiaoMo advanced, how he utilized his resources and grew all while combatting the hardships popping up that were not even of his own fault. I was cheering for him throughout the whole thing, and I am sad to stop reading because I want to see where he goes from here. Even though he has some good luck in advancement, the scrutiny he receives and his humble personality make him an underdog character you can’t help but want to succeed.

The main problem I have with this story is the character of You XiaoMo’s love interest, Ling Xiao. To go off topic for a moment, to some degree, the introduction of Ling Xiao makes You XiaoMo’s growth a little boring. A much more powerful person, he is able to get You XiaoMa resources and increase his skills in a way that feels kinda like cheating, when seeing You XiaoMo get better from his own unique attitude and hard work would have been much more fulfilling. But I do not resent his introduction as it provides a lot more opportunity for interesting adventure and action.

But this is definitely not the central issue I have with Ling Xiao. He is very much the epitome of the ‘bullying lover’ trope. While this can be interesting, in terms of Ling Xiao it is just annoying and persists to the point that he becomes abusive. I love romance but I became unable to enjoy the story with the way Ling Xiao manipulates You XiaoMo. Especially because when the story finally broke through to the romantic and smutty scenes, all of them through chapter 90 had elements that were forceful or coercive, coming across much more like s*xual assault than romance. This, combined with Ling Xiao’s constant ‘bullying’ and unreasonable jealousy made me hate Ling Xiao and give up on the story. Although I am not a man, I am gay, and I loved reading this because having actual gay romance in a good story that is not slice-of-life is rare. That’s why seeing this story fall into the cesspit of yaoi abuse glorification made me incredibly sad, and from the other reviews, it doesn’t seem to change much 200 chapters later. That’s why, if you are a fan of healthy romance, you will be disappointed by this novel. <<less

This story is a "bang"! The author is really good in separating the genres of the story. Blending of the events seems really natural and not to forget that although Ling Xiao seems to be more in the limelight, You XiaoMo do also have his. This couple really is the best. They even overwhelmed the position of the best love team in my novel list. Hihihi. I didn't expect to read a very long Yaoi novel and never get bored with it. Amazing.

I've been reading this forever and just decided to write a review.

Our MC is You XiaoMo, or YXM as readers have simplified, who died and wakes up in the body of someone in a different world. The body's previous owner is a pill cultivating disciple of some sect who cried himself to death because of his poor talent in pill cultivation, which is based on soul force. But that was the previous body's soul, what about YXM's? At the same time, he discovers that martial student Ling Xiao is actually... more>> not human, and LX threatens YXM into making him pills to eat in return for not killing him for knowing his secret.

So what ensues is an interesting xuanhuan that isn't solely focused on romance and s*x. YXM focuses on pill cultivation and LX is... there. Though there isn't much intense drama in terms of who is going to win a fight, it's still fun learning about the world that YXM has ended up in through his interactions and reactions with LX.

While this is yaoi bl, it's not really super s*xual except for a few chapters about 100+ chapters in. Otherwise, it's just mildly bromantic. <<less
